Chapter Eleven

Summary:

- Everyone's in the hospital

- Things go even more wrong, seems like a theme here tbh

Lillian was awake though still kept her eyes closed. Collecting her thoughts from the recent events that unfolded. She last remembered being in the backseat of the Impala with Dean. Sam in the front passenger seat while John was driving. They were leaving to go to the nearest hospital because Dean was injured by Azazel and John was shot in the leg. They failed to kill the demon again, but they were successful in rescuing John. She remembers drifting away in her thoughts leaning against Dean as he leaned against her in pain when there was a bright light, then a crash. After that she was knocked out.

She hears a light beeping. A heart monitor? It smells very sterile where she is. Slightly opening her eyes to face the world again, she squints out at a bright room. Blinking a few times Lillian adjusts her eyes to the light. She looked down at herself laying tucked into a hospital bed with an IV in her arm and a pulse monitor on her finger. No longer in the clothes she came in, but a plain hospital gown. She turned her head to see her previous attire in a bag on a chair next to the bed.

She sat up abruptly now, fully awake, about to rip the IV out and take the pulse monitor off when she heard someone walking up to the door. Taking the monitor off she stopped her movements and looked up ready for who was about to come in, on guard for anything. Her main priorities right now were getting to her family. She felt fine physically. Lillian needed to make sure they were okay. Whatever happened to them on the road couldn't have been an accident considering they were dealing with so many demons in the last few days.

There was a knock on the door as it opened. What's the point of the knock if they are gonna walk in anyways? A doctor placed a clip board on the front of the door as he walked in and closed the door behind him. He wore blue scrubs and a long white lab coat. The doctor was tall, almost as tall as Sam. He had dark brown eyes and short brown hair. Whoever this doctor was also had a very square jawline that looked very un-doctorish, he had the hard face of a military man. "Lillian Winchester?" he addressed, stepping closer to the end of her bed.

She nodded her head still a little wide eyed. She wasn't expecting him to walk in at that very moment. It looked to be night outside. Wouldn't only nurses come in to check on her at this time to do their rounds or something? The doctor didn't say anything back to her, he just stared at her for a few seconds with squinted eyes, causing a panic in Lillian. Is this another demon? Then in a flash before her eyes his whole visage is transformed into her father. "You're going on the naughty list this year." Gabriel deadpanned to his daughter walking towards the right side of the bed next to her.

Looking at her father in surprise she ripped the IV out of her arm now. She's never seen him pull that move before. She knows that he's also the trickster for his own protection but she's also very uneducated in any angelic powers. Her father won't teach her how to use all of them. She thinks it's because he fears she will be too powerful and won't be able to stay under the radar. Another part of her thinks it's because he fears she will turn out to be evil and completely corrupt, using her powers only for malicious intent.

"What's going on? Why are you here? Why did you knock me out before?" Lillian was full of questions that deserved answers. Her father needed to start hacking up answers.

"I told you hon, you're getting yourself into dangerous situations. Meddling with demons… I don't care if it's for your foolish brothers, you don't want to know what hell would do if they found out about you and your powers. They would only want to use you."

"I don't even know how to use them!" She snapped at him. It's unfair she has so much potential that she will never get to obtain. "Are you afraid of what will happen to me or are you afraid of people finding you through me?" Lillian accused.

Gabriel scrunched his brows at her mirroring the same face she was making at him. "I'm trying to protect both of us. Heaven was- is a mess. The family-" He cut himself off clearing his throat. "I left for a very good reason you know that. Everything I have done for the both of us is for our protection."

"You won't tell me specifics. I only know general things anyone who can pick up a book would know. I am your family I should know." Why would he hold back important things from her like this but expect her to tell her things? Expect her to do his bidding? What if with all her power she could protect both of them?

"None of that is important right now Lillian. I have to keep you safe right now." He lifted the right sleeve of his lab coat up to his elbow. "I warned you to stay safe and out of trouble." He placed his left hand on her shoulder holding her steady, his right was closing in on her chest.

"What are you doing?!" She was squirming under his touch. Is he going to touch my soul? What can he get out of this now?? She was freaking out, going through a million different outcomes of the situation in her head. His hand started to pierce into her chest.

"Stay still Lily, It will go easier that way. I wish I didn't have to do this but you gave me no choice. We can't have anyone finding us." He rubbed her back with his left hand trying to comfort her as his right hand dove in. His face showed a pained expression as he looked at the confused betrayed expression on his daughters face.

Gabriel wasn't going in to touch her soul. He could if he wanted to but that wasn't his goal. Resting beside her soul was the center point where her grace resides. He carefully grabbed her grace and formed a tight chain. The chain swooped around her grace swiftly and he locked in place. It now prevented Lillian from the use of her powers, from being noticed by anything that would normally be able to sense her. The chains are encrypted in special enochian words that should keep everything angelic about her at bay. She can pass as human now. She is essentially human now without access to her grace.

As he was delicately reaching away from her grace he felt a presence in the pit in her core. What is this? Right below her soul and grace was something else. It was angelic, but what was it doing there? Gabriel sensed it doesn't belong to Lillian. He also sensed it feeling bitter and angry, but also incredibly lonesome, sad. He lingered over it nearing closer curious. Grazing it slightly, his head shot back and he saw images flash before his eyes.

He saw himself but it wasn't him now. It was in heaven. He was standing in the gardens. Gabriel looked upset, disappointed and mostly defeated. In front of him was his older brother Michael, his face was twisted in the most vile anger, chest huffing and puffing as if he was just screaming. Raphael standing not too far from him looking disgusted and angry as well.

The next few images Gabriel saw was falling. Falling from the skies. It was harsh and fast, yet at the same time incredibly slow. Even though what he was seeing was just images in his mind, it was almost as if he could feel the cold harsh winds blowing against him. His head was turned to the side watching the scene unfold and it revealed the top arch of a giant white wing out of the corner of his eye. The tips of the wings were burning now, flaying to a crisp. Ash falling around him with burnt up feathers as he fell. Gabriel could almost smell it, he could almost feel it. Still falling limply with his hands in front of him, nothing to do, no choice but to fall to despair as the harsh winds took him down.

Gabriel opened his eyes and looked at his daughter. There was a pained expression and tears streaming slowly down her face. He quickly but delicately pulled his arm out of her chest. Gabriel knew exactly what he saw touching the foreign thing that was in her core. The only question he has to ask is, why? Well he has suspicions as to why but he is for sure in denial. Unsure as to whether she saw it too and unsettled by the whole situation he stood up ready to take off. He needed to reassure his denial. Gabriel needed to know that what he was thinking isn't true at all.

"Your wounds from the accident are healed but next time they might not... You need to be careful now. You are human now pretty much." Gabriel let her know nodding his head at her, avoiding eye contact. He hated that it had come to this. He hated that he had done this to her and fears that she might retaliate.

Lillian looked at her father wiping her tears away. "What did you do to me?" She sobbed. She was devastated. If he fully took away her powers she'll feel utterly useless. One of the many things that made her who she is stripped away. As a child she begged for him to activate her grace and let her learn how to harness them. She is a nephilim, her powers are a part of what makes her who she is. To take them away again is heartbreaking. Though she is also shaken because as he was digging around she saw something. She knows he definitely saw it too, given by his facial expressions and reactions. She doesn't want him to know she knows because she saw him in the images. It was like a different version of him though. Lillian felt like crawling in a ball and sobbing. She was so overwhelmed with the emotions of everything that was happening.

"You won't have your powers for a bit, I'm sorry sweetums I gotta go for now." He looked at her with a pained expression. Smoothing her hair down, he kissed the top of her head and flew away. Choking out a sob the second he left, Lillian didn't know what to make of any of this. She felt useless. She already felt useless as a nephilim considering she didn't know her full potential being sheltered by her father. At least during those few years she could do some things. Now she feels she's reverted back to a useless fragile human.

Fighting through the grief she had over the loss of her powers, she got out of bed. Stepping towards the chair, she ripped the bag that had her clothes in it and started stripping her gown off. Once successfully dressed, Lillian sat on the bed and laced up her boots. Not caring about her face and overall appearance at the moment, she ripped off her hospital band and padded out of the room.

Walking down towards the left corridor of the hospital, Lillian peaked her head in all the rooms hoping to find her brothers or even John. Thankfully she hasn't bumped into a nurse to tell her off about how visiting hours are over, the hospital seems to be dead. When she left her room there was only one nurse in front of the desk of the wing she's in. The nurse was so zoned out in her sudoku that she didn't see Lillian walk right pass her.

Lillian made it down to a cracked door of a room to see a man set up to some machine. She picked up the clip board of the door with shaky hands. Dean Winchester. Dropping the clip board back into the slot on the door she snapped her head back to the man laying on deaths door in bed. It was Dean.

Holding her hand to her face with tears in her eyes, she made her way into the room. Pulling a chair up to the bed she sat beside him grabbing his hand. "Dean I'm so sorry. You don't deserve this. You shouldn't go like this, you better fucking fight this." She sobbed gripping his hand tighter, wishing he could squeeze her hand back. She rested her head against their hands sobbing until she fell asleep from exhaustion.

"Long day?" the masculine voice called out. He could sense her somber mood, even if she was from the other side of the bars.

Lillian walked up to the cage feeling more calm now near his presence but still devastated. She leaned her back against the bars and sat in front of it, not yet ready to go in. A few stray tears slipped from her face every so often out of her control. She let out a sigh.

"Come on, where's your usual can-do attitude?" He leaned against the cage listening to her breathing. Rolling his eyes to himself, he turned back to the bars in her direction, "Wanna have girl talk?"

"No."

"You love saying that don't you. One day I will have you begging yes." He paused hearing her shift from the other side of the bars. It was unusual like this. Talking out to darkness. Even though this was how they spoke for a long time, they got used to the luxury of seeing each other face to face. Being able to touch one another.

Lillian had shifted herself to face the front of the cage, tapping on the bars with her knuckles repetitively. "So what have you been up to?" she asked him avoiding the topic of talking about her problems.

"Really? Did you seriously just ask me that?" As if he had so much to do in imprisonment.

"Mmhmm" What's so wrong with asking that? Yeah he's in prison but like he could've found a source of entertainment somehow perhaps. He's an angel after all. Maybe he has good conversations with himself or something. "You up to anything good lately?"

He stayed silent. If she thought she was being funny she wasn't. "Come in here." What has he been doing? Other than waiting to get busted out of his imprisonment, waiting for his one source of entertainment, which is Lillian. He always is looking forward to her. "Hellooo?" he called out in a singsong voice trying to get her attention. "Enough foreplay. Get in here."

"I'm trying." Lillian had been trying since he first told her to. She can't get in. Touching the bars now she tried again. Nothing. She tried again. Nothing. Frustrated tears started pouring out of her eyes, "I can't do anything anymore! He took everything away from me, I'm useless!"

"What do you mean? Who took what away?"

Lillian rubbed the tears from her face, pacing in the dark. "My father! He did something to my grace, locking it or something.. I don't know! Now I can't use my powers. I'm useless.. fragile, weak."

That made him angry. Unfamiliar with this newfound feeling. Not rage, but protectiveness of another like that caused him to be confused. He was conflicted how to proceed. He'd rather bottle it all and act as if this nephilim never existed. Just a fly on the wall. Though she kept showing up here making it hard to avoid her. If she wasn't here then who would be here with him? No one. He cannot deny the craving feeling he has towards her when he's too close. He doesn't understand it one bit. Not once in his existence has he felt something like this nor is an angel supposed to. What does any of it mean?

"Why would he do that to you?" he asked holding back his rage.

"He thought I was being too dangerous and I was a risk for us." she sobbed. Lillian could hear him breathing heavily as she spoke. "He seemed upset that he had to do it. He gave me a warning when he put me to sleep before I went to deal with demons, but he said I started getting too dangerous with everything and just cut me off from my powers and left." She could feel the rage seething off of him through the cage. Walking towards the cage again, Lillian put her hand on a bar "are you alright?"

"I'll kill him." he mumbled quietly to himself. A father shouldn't do that to their child. Take away what makes them shine just because they're scared, then run. That's fucked up. He will punish him. Destroy him for hurting her. A part of him also felt that he was being messed with. He gets one thing that he enjoys in his long imprisonment, even if he would never admit that he enjoys her company, now he can't have any access to it anymore. It's as if God gave him another personal fuck you when he never did anything wrong in the first place. His eyes glowed red just thinking about it all.

"What was that?" she couldn't understand him through his muttering. The whole rooms aura was dark and cold now. The main source of it all coming from the cage. He wasn't happy with what Lillian told him and she could feel it. Her skin had goosebumps traveling up her arms. She shivered as the room dropped temperature about 40 degrees. Everything that was in the air felt angry and of malice. Though Lillian had no fear.

Red eyes spoke back to her, "You should get revenge. He had no right to take that away from you." She should be strong and never cower to others. He feels if she lets this slide then that opens a door for anyone or thing to kick her down and view her as the weaker being. Even if she is very much stronger, mentally they could break her.

"He is my father, I would never hurt him. I love him and I understand his intentions. There was nothing negative behind it. He is frightened I guess and… I'm just upset." Lillian understood the revenge route. She's been on it for a long time with her brothers and John to kill Azazel. She definitely believes in it. She isn't going to just up and kill her father, especially when he's been nothing but good to her. She would be no match for him anyways. She has no power now and if she killed him then there's no chance she's ever getting it back. "Even if I did kill him or got revenge, that would be foolish. I would have no way to get my grace unlocked, I know no other angels. Killing him would leave me fucked."

He raised his hand even though she can't see it. "You seem to have forgotten your favorite angel." His words came out very giddy as if he's about to be chosen for a special task.

She was being lightly shaken awake. Groaning Lillian picked her head up from the awkward hunched over position at Deans side to see who woke her. Rubbing the sleep from her eyes she looked up at Sam. "Sam?" She stood up stretching her back out.

"How are you? You had a concussion when they brought you in?" Sam asked reaching to give her a hug.

"I feel fine. Are you okay? What exactly happened? What happened to Dean? Where is J- Dad? Are they going to be okay?" All the questions started pouring out of her worried mind.

Leaning down to clamp his large hands onto his twins shoulders in a way to steady her anxiety, Sam tried answering all of her questions. "A possessed truck driver hit into us. The demon got away… Dad is doing okay he's a little banged up but he'll be fine, he's in the other room. And Dean- " Sam sighed as his eyes started tearing up looking over Lillian's head towards Dean in the hospital bed. He mentally kicked himself hating the look on his sisters face right now. She looked so lost and broken staring up at him with her big green glossy eyes waiting for him to continue. "Dean isn't doing good too be honest Lil. The doctors don't know if he will wake up." Tears started to stain both their cheeks as Lillian reached for her brother for comfort. Wrapping their arms around each other, Sam rested his chin atop of Lillian's head and they held each other in silence. Hoping for a miracle.

It had been over a day and Lillian wouldn't leave Deans side. Not even when the nurses tried telling her visiting hours were over. She yelled at them to "Leave or call security and try to drag me away!" They understood that the situation was hard and she really wasn't there mess around in the hospital. They bent the visitor rule for her and let her stay by his side feeling sympathetic towards the situation.

Lillian saw as the sun set and it rose again. She watched as nurses and doctors came in to check on Deans status and there was no change whatsoever. She would not leave Deans side incase he needed her though. What if there was something she could do? She kept trying to heal him over and over constantly, yet to no surprise nothing happened. She had cried herself dry hours ago but her face was still red and puffy. If her dad only waited a little while longer then she could have done something. Not caring for the consequences she would have healed him in an instant. Lillian even tried praying to him for help, of course he didn't answer.

Still unblinking, staring off at Dean, Lillian heard the door open. Not caring for who it is, she kept her eyes on Dean, they can reveal themselves on their own.

Sam cleared his throat trying to get her attention. "Have you eaten? Slept at all?"

Lillian shook her head. She heard a crinkling noise which caused her to finally turn her head towards Sam. He was holding a large paper bag. What is that?

"Dad said you haven't gone to see him?" Sam was curious as to why she wouldn't go to see their father.

"You said he was fine. Dean needs us."

"Lily you should still see him, he wants to see you, it's Dad. He wants to see you okay. I'm worried about something he's planning.." Sam darted his eyes across the room as he spoke that last part.

"What do you mean by "Planning"?"

"He tried to trick me into gathering ingredients to summon a demon, I think the demon. He wanted the colt too." He was looking at her serious now.

Lillian scrunched her brows together looking around the room. What is he planning? He could be trying to summon Azazel to kill him. Though that would be a suicide mission. Could he be wanting to make a deal? Her mind was racing with all the possibilities of what the outcome of John summoning Azazel could be.

"I don't know why he would do that.. I'll go see him. But first, what is that?" She pointed to the brown bag he held.

Sam gave her a sheepish smile. He slid out of the bag which revealed a box that said 'Mystical Talking Board'.

"A ouija board? Really? Are we 12?"

Sam took the board out of the box placing it on the floor and sat in front of it. " I thought if Dean is around here, this is a way we can talk to him." He grabbed her hand pulling her to the floor to sit next to him.

Lillian and Sam both placed their fingers on the planchette. Lillian felt so silly for doing this. A small part of her was hoping that it will work even though she felt dumb.

"Dean are you here?" Sam called out to the air in front of where they sat. They kept their fingers steady on opposite sides of the planchette waiting. A few seconds after Sam called out, the little wooden piece started moving. 'YES'

"Dean." Lillian breathed out happy to hear from him.

"Man, it's good to hear from you. It's not the same without you around." Sam called out looking over towards his teary eyed sister. He bumped his shoulder towards hers giving her a reassuring nod.

"Sam it's moving again! Dean's trying to say something." She watched as the planchette moved across the board hovering over letters. "H… U… Hunt? Hunt? You're hunting?" She asked looking around the room not too sure where to look. Odd place for him to be hunting considering he's in the veil… Oh no.

'YES', the board answered again.

"Do you know what you're hunting? What is it?" Sam asked.

Waiting for a response Sam and Lillian looked to one another and they looked back around the room. Lillian repeated the question, "Dean, what is it?" The planchette started moving a bit faster now 'R' 'E' 'A' 'P'.

"It's a reaper!" Lillian called out. "It wants you? Doesn't it?" Her voice was much quieter now. The planchette moved very slowly to hover over 'YES'.

Sam sighed turning towards his sister then back to the empty space in front of him. "If it's here naturally then there's no way to stop it." Lillian felt her eyes watering up again.

They both took their hands off the planchette. Trying to think of what they can do to stop the reaper. Lillian had been praying to her father yet he was still avoiding her.

"Dad will know what to do." Sam turned towards her. He gathered up the ouija board to put away.

Lillian went to go to John's room, Sam was going to meet her there. Once she entered the room the first thing she saw was the bed was empty. She checked around making sure nothing is out of the ordinary and that he out of the room according to his own will. Once satisfied she noticed his journal laying on the nightstand and took it. Making her way back down the hallway to inform Sam that John was gone.

Halfway down the hallway by Deans room Lillian found Sam about to go to John's room. "He wasn't there. I got his journal though." She waved it in front of them and handed it over.

"Where do you think he went?" Sam looked around over her head as if John could pop up out of nowhere.

"My guess is up to nothing good from what you told me." They were walking back into Deans room.

Sam was looking through the journal leaning against a dresser as Lillian waited in the chair next to Deans bed. "Found something" he alerted Lillian to come over.

She walked over and got on her toes looking over his shoulder at the page labeled 'Reapers'.

"Let's get to reading."

It was night now. Lillian was leaning on the windowsill staring off out at the night sky. Sam wanted to be thorough so he was reading the reaper section of the journal one more time before they gave up on the journal. That was before she heard a sigh come from him.

Lillian turned her head to look at Sam who was now sitting in the chair beside Deans bed. He was shaking his head while closing the book. "Dean I don't know if you are still around with us. We couldn't find anything in the book. We will keep trying. We will never give up and you sure as hell better keep fighting. You can't leave us here like this man, you know you can't leave us with Dad. You keep the peace. Things were just starting to get good again, you gotta hold on. Can you hear me?" The room stayed silent and Sam just put his head down. Lillian came up behind him resting her hand on his shoulder giving it a squeeze.

When Sam and Lillian returned to the hospital the next day Dean was fine. Everything was healed. Dean was asking all sorts of questions about what happened while he was in veil because he couldn't remember any of it. Sam gave him answers but there was a lot he couldn't answer because Lillian and him were only on one side of everything. Lillian was watching Dean and his sudden change with suspicion. Almost as if I could've done this. That's impossible now. My father wasn't here to do this, I know it. This is all too good to be true, no one is just magically okay from the injuries he had. She was on edge now waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Lillian was pulled from her thoughts when John came up to the doorway. "How are you feeling?" he nodded towards Dean.

"Fine. I'm alive." Dean seemed kind of in a shock considering the gravity of the wounds he faced are all of a sudden gone.

"That's all that matters." John looked pleased.

"Where were you last night?" Lillian asked John suspiciously with her eyebrows scrunched up. Sam turned towards him as well with his arms crossed over his chest wanting the same answer.

"Needed to take care of some things."

"Well that's specific" Sam scoffed.

"Seriously?" Lillian rolled her eyes.

"Sam, Lily, lay off him. Come on." Dean tried to simmer down the conflict between his family.

"Did you go after the demon?" Sam questioned further. Lillian squinted her eyes at John.

"No."

"Why don't I believe you?" Sam felt insulted that any of this was happening after they just saved his ass from Azazel! He goes and invites him here right behind their backs when that's something they should be doing together as a family. It's their fight together. They should be taking him down together. Killing Azazel isn't a solo mission.

John's face had a solemn look to it as he pleaded to his children. "Can we not fight please? Half of the time I don't even know what we are fighting about y'know? We are always just butting heads with each other. I know I've made some mistakes but I've done the best that I could. I don't want to fight anymore, okay?"

"Are you alright?" Sam was concerned for the sudden change in his father's demeanor. Lillian looked up at him confused at his change.

"Yeah I'm okay, don't worry about me. I'm just a little tired.. Can you two kids go get me a cup of joe, if you don't mind?" John sent them off on their little mission together like he would when they were children. They exited the room together off to find where to get coffee for John.

Walking back after successfully finding the coffee vendor Sam and Lillian were one hallway away from John.

"Do you think something was a little off with dad?" Lillian asked Sam.

"Yeah.. but he could just be tired like he said. We had a crazy past few days. He could just be stressed about everything."

"Maybe.." Lillian was fiddling with the zipper on her jacket as they turned down the corridor leading towards John's room. Once they reached the door they find John laying on the floor.

"Dad?!" They both called out. Lillian dropped to him shaking him. Sam dropped the coffee, spilling it all over the floor. Sam came up to Lillian's side kneeling next to her grabbing his side.

"HELP! WE NEED SOMEBODY IN HERE! HELP!" Sam screamed out.

Lillian turned to Sam, "I'm going to go get Dean." He hears everything she's saying but not able to process a single word. The whole world is moving in slow motion to him. He just stares out at her as she get up running out the room. Nurses and doctors flood in. Soon he hears Dean and Lillian's voice fill the room again.

"No! No! It's our dad!" Dean was pleading as he was trying to get in. "Let us in!" Lillian called out. Sam didn't realize he was being shoved out of the room with Dean and Lillian. He had dissociated all the events that had took place in the last few moments.

Where he was and what was happening coming back to him now. He looked over the nurses shoulder through the doorframe to see his father laying lifeless and the doctor stop compressions on him. The nurse announced that there was still no pulse. Lillian reaches for both her brothers hands.

The doctor stopped everything he was doing. "That's it everyone." Looking towards his watch he announced, "I'll call it. Time of death 10:41 a.m."
