Chapter 13

Frisk looked at the gigantic gate with awe. It was his first time seeing such a huge gate up close. There were still so many secrets of the Underground that he did not know about. He tried his best to keep his thoughts in his head, without letting even a single thought out of his head.

"Frisk? Are you listening?..." Blooky said as he looked at Frisk with a worried face.

"Oh, yeah um…. What were you saying again?" Frisk said as he snapped back to reality.

Blooky sighed. "I was saying…. Dark Sprites were defeated in an expedition led by the king. This expedition lasted for five years. We lost many, but we were able to wipe them all out. And after the Dark Sprites were wiped out, the king migrated the whole kingdom outside these walls."

Frisk looked around him. He saw the gigantic wall that had a lot of moss growing on it. The wall seemed very strong and was not damaged, even with age. It was very strange that a wall that has been around for centuries has not been damaged, even with age.

"How did these walls not get damaged even though they're centuries old? I saw a lot of damaged structures." Frisk said as he glanced at Blooky.

"That's because the wall is heavily coated with magic, similar to the gate. Both were meant for protecting the kingdom from the Dark Sprites." Blooky explained.

"So, it's not possible for anyone to escape beyond the wall or through the gate?"

"That's right, it's impossible to escape through here. There's magic protecting both the gate and the wall from all sides. No one here is powerful enough to break the spell. Not even the Qu- Toriel can break the spell."

"So, how do you get in and out of this place?"

"That's… That's top secret so I can't tell you that, sorry." Blooky said as he turned his head away from Frisk.

At that moment, Frisk felt relieved, because he did not ask Blooky about what the key was for. And he also felt disappointed, because he felt like Blooky was going to tell him.

"Oh okay, it's no problem." Frisk said, trying his best to hide the frustration in his voice, which Blooky did not notice.

"W-well… Shall we get going now? " Blooky said as he started to walk.

Frisk nodded as he followed Blooky. Frisk could not take his eyes off the wall as he followed Blooky. He could see some tall, majestic towers. Even these towers did not look damaged or old. There must have been some magic used on these towers as well. Frisk wondered what kind of magic was used in casting the protective spell on the walls, the giant gate and the towers.

"So, um…. Tell me, Blooky…. Why can't you tell me how to get out of here? What's stopping you?" Frisk asked as he curiously glanced at Blooky.

"W-Well… I-It's because…. I told someone else about that and they…. they were able to escape, but…. they were killed by the Royal Guard… And Toriel… She blamed the death on me. So…. I don't want anyone to die because of me." Blooky said as he looked at Frisk.

"Look…. I'm happy that you and Toriel are worried about me. But…. I wanna be free. I wanna get out of here as soon as possible! Please let me out of here. It's my choice!" Frisk said in a frustrated tone.

"I'm sorry, Frisk…. But I can't tell you anything. Trust me, it's better this way… Better than dying… Do you remember how much we struggled against Flowey? If Toriel wasn't there, we would've been goners…. You'll meet ferocious enemies on the other side! Enemies who'll try to kill you at every chance they get! They won't be like Flowey, who loves to play around with his prey before killing it…."

"I don't care… I'd rather die trying to escape than staying here. Blooky…. I'm asking for the last time…. Please tell me how to get out of here…. I'm begging you... " Frisk said in a sincere voice.

Blooky had a sad look on his face. "I'm sorry, Frisk… But I really can't tell you anything. I've made a promise to Toriel to never do that again if another human were to fall down here. I-I really can't-"

"Ugh….. Never mind then… I'll find it out myself!" Frisk interrupted Blooky with an angry tone in his voice.

"But Frisk-"

"Have a nice day… Thank you for… whatever this is!" Frisk said as he angrily walked away from Blooky.

Blooky froze where he stood, staring at Frisk as he vanished into the distance. Blooky had not intended to hurt Frisk in any way and he had no intention of taking Frisk's freedom. He simply did not want to make the same mistake that he made with another fallen human. He searched far and wide for words that he could speak to Frisk, but he found none, so he stayed silent.

Frisk felt utterly infuriated because no one would tell him anything about how to get out of the Ruins. He headed back home as soon as he could, without looking back. At this point, he completely gave up trying to find a way out of the Ruins, because he knew that everyone would stop him from doing that.

Frisk finally reached Toriel's house and was about to enter as he noticed a fly-shaped bullet coming towards him. He was barely able to dodge the fly-shaped bullet and looked at the direction where it came from. He saw a fly-like monster at a close distance. He was surprised that he could not notice the monster earlier. It looked different from Daz.

"Ha-ha. Good job dodging my fly bullet. You're not a normal human, are you?" The fly-like creature asked.

Frisk did not answer the monster's question and looked at it carefully. It was slightly bigger than Daz, and it had the same magic bullet attack as Daz. "It must be related to Daz." Frisk thought as he put his hand on the front door. The fly-like creature summoned fly bullets again as a warning. Frisk quickly let go of the door knob.

The fly-like creature started walking towards Frisk. "Now, don't be in a hurry… It's rude to walk away from someone who's talking, you know."

"Who are you? And what do you want from me?"

"Don't be alarmed. I'm not gonna hurt you in any way. I simply wanna talk to you."

"About what?"

There was a brief silence for a few moments. Frisk wondered if this fly-like creature was with the Royal Guard.

"I heard that you wanted to learn how to protect yourself." The fly-like creature said as he dissolved the fly bullets he had summoned earlier.

"Yeah, that's right… I don't wanna be protected all the time… I wanna be able to fight all by myself." Frisk declared.

"That's an admirable spirit, considering that you were put in danger twice."

"Well, ofcourse, I need to get out of here after all."

The fly-like creature laughed at Frisk's statement and nodded it's head. Frisk could tell that the fly-like creature did not believe that he could escape, and this made him feel infuriated.

"No, you won't be able to get out of here, unless you know about the secret passage." The fly-like creature said as it stopped laughing. "Enough of that… Allow me to introduce myself… My name is Argus… Nice to meet you, Frisk."

Frisk's eyes widened. "How'd you know my name?"

"Did you forget that I was told about you earlier? Toriel has told me a lot about you, Frisk… She told me that you wanted to learn how to protect yourself… She also told me about your desire to get out of here."

"Hmmm…. Let me guess… You're gonna train me?"

"Well, yeah, that's basically it. Since we can't always be with you to protect you from that Flowey fellow."

"That's great! I finally get to learn how to protect myself!" Frisk said, filled with delight.

"You're good at dodging, Frisk… You have good instincts. But we're not gonna start training today… Because I'm a little busy today. We'll start your training tomorrow. I must get going now, Frisk. I'll come to this house tomorrow when I have the time.. See you around." Argus said as he walked away from Frisk.

Frisk did not say anything back. Frisk was delighted to finally learn how to protect himself and could not wait to get his training started. It seemed like Toriel finally agreed to teach Frisk how to fight. Frisk was delighted to know that. He opened the front door and went inside Toriel's house.

There was still no one in the house. There was also no sign of any noise in the house. Frisk quickly made his way upstairs and entered his room. He regretted getting mad at Blooky because he knew that he could not blame Blooky for his decision to not tell Frisk anything. Frisk wanted to apologize to Blooky, but it was too late as he probably already destroyed his relationship with Blooky. "I really need to think things through before I do it." Frisk thought as he sat on his bed.

Frisk wondered if he could really live in the Underground. There was only limited space for him to be in. If he was to live in the Underground, he would feel trapped. Frisk felt like there were some important pieces of information hidden from him by Toriel and the others. He felt like he could not trust monsters, because he knew that they hid a lot of valuable information from him. Just thinking of these things caused Frisk to get extremely mad at monsters, but it made him appreciate the monsters as well, because if he knew all the information that they had to offer, he would have already escaped.

Frisk was drowning in the sea of his own thoughts. He was unable to hear the wonderful sound of birds chirping outside. He let out a long sigh when he got up from his bed. There was no noise at all. But it did not last very long as the silence was broken a few moments later when someone knocked on the front door.

"Coming! Coming!" Frisk said as he made his way downstairs.

The knocking on the door became frequent at every passing second. Frisk was very annoyed by it.

Frisk screamed,"I said I'm coming, just wait!"

Frisk slowly opened the front door and saw that Blooky was standing behind the front door.

"May I come in, Frisk?" Blooky asked.

"Sure, come on in!" Frisk said, stepping aside so that Blooky could enter the house. "Look, Blooky, I-"

"I've decided to tell you a bit about this place, Frisk. That's why I came here. You don't need to be sorry about anything… Your reaction was expected in this situation." Blooky said, interrupting Frisk. "But I still can't tell you exactly where the secret passage is."

"What made you change your mind?"

"Well… I thought that it'd be unfair to completely keep you in the dark so…."

Frisk nodded. "Oh okay, go on."

"Oh before I start, show me the key that's in your pocket."

Frisk's throat constricted as soon as Blooky gave the order. He panicked, because he was caught red handed. He froze in place, staring at Blooky, who was expecting him to take out the key that was in his pocket. "Oh no, what kind of trouble am I in now?" Frisk thought as he slowly moved his hand towards the pocket on his pants.
