Well here's the first chapter of my Scooby-Doo and Courage The Cowardly Puppy Meet Coraline. This is a Halloween Special Fanfic I planned for you guys :) The first time I saw Coraline was when my Mom asked me too watch over my sister who was two at the time while she was getting ready for the day. And the movie she played for my sister was Coraline, it was her favorite movie at the time she would watch over and over again. (I know that movie should of been scary for a two year old, but this is my sister, who later as she got older would watch scary movies like Chucky and It which I'll never watch cause I'm a big baby)
And that movie Coraline became one of my favorites too :), although it creep me out, but my sister would watched almost everyday which lost it's scare factor on me, but I still love the movie regardless. But my Mom hates it. (Don't blame her! It's just her opinion.) Anyways I hope you enjoy the first chapter
"Bye Mom!" Shaggy shouted as he and his dog Scooby-Doo waved good bye to his mom.
"Bye Muriel!" Courage called out to his owner waving goodbye.
Mrs. Rogers pulled out of the driveway of their friend's house, with Muriel in her car waving by at her beloved dog Courage.
Ten-year-old Norville (Shaggy) Rogers had heard that his good friend Coraline had moved to Oregon, and he thought it'd be a great time to visit her, Scooby-Doo and Courage also came along for the trip.
Shaggy had gotten Scooby when he was five years old, when he moved in to Coosville California from Crystal Cove Ohio. It was rough from him since he wasn't good at making friends. So his parents got him a Great Dane puppy Scooby for his birthday.
It was one of the best birthdays in his life, three years later when he was eight his Aunt Muriel and Uncle Eustace moved from Nowhere Kansas into a retirement home, and that's where they met Courage their puppy pink beagle.
Shaggy loved his two best friends, they're like brothers to him. He didn't have to worry about impressing them, he knew that they'd be best friends forever, his aunt and uncle even lived on the same neighborhood as their retirement home, which made their hangout that much easier.
Shaggy also made a pen pal named Coraline, last year he and his family visit them for a vacation. Now it was their second time visiting them.
Mel took Shaggy's suitcase, and she told Shaggy and the dogs to go play.
"Coraline is probably outside looking for the old well," she said, "Charlie and I will be working on our catalog."
"Rokay, thanks Rel," Scooby called out.
Shaggy and the dogs saw Coraline grabbing a stick, they then remembered that Coraline liked to use dowsing rods to find water. They all smiled, as Coraline quietly and gracefully walked around holding the dowsing rod, and he followed her.
"Ri Roraline," Scooby said walking up to her.
"Oh!" Coraline yelped and jumped also causing the trio to jump, "You guys scared me to death!"
"Rops, sorry," Scooby smiled sheepishly, let out a giggle.
"Like, we're just saying hi," Shaggy explained, apologizing on Scooby's behalf.
Coraline playfully pushed Shaggy, and the four continued to walk down the path towards where the old well would be. As they walked, they chatted a bit.
"So I'm guessing Mrs. Rogers just dropped you all off here?" Coraline asked.
"Mmm-hmm," Courage replied with a nod.
"How come you didn't go spend time with your other friends? Don't you guys have other friends in Coosville?" Coralline questioned.
"Well like, Fred is in summer camp, Daphne is visiting Scotland with her family for the week and Velma is in summer school," Shaggy explained.
Shaggy and the dogs also have other friends besides each other back in Coosville which they met in kindergarten and they all hangout occasionally, but not as much as Shaggy spends time with the dogs.
Suddenly they heard a rock fall, and they looked upward. The hairs on the back of Shaggy, Scooby and Courage's necks stood up straight.
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage were afraid, well…anything. The sight of their own shadows spooked him sometimes, they often jumped coming around corners, then tried to brush it off so as not to draw notice. Not to mention creepy spiders (eight legs and eight eyes, plus venom…). Dark basements.
And broccoli (it was basically an alien vegetable). They had a long list of phobias. They're even afraid of being afraid…this unknown sinking feeling about the future.
But Shaggy, Scooby and Courage couldn't help how their hearts hammered, their breathing got short and spastic, and fear flooded through their whole bodies, making it feel rigid.
Nobody was in sight of the three, but they weren't fooled.
"Hello!" Coraline called out, "Who's there?"
Still no answer. The four friends looked at each other.
"Hm," Coraline bent down and picked up one of the small stones that had fallen.
"Um, Coraline, something tells me this isn't a good idea," Courage cautioned her.
"Oh don't be such a scaredy-cat," Coraline protested.
She hurled it upwards, and it bounced off a rock before falling down behind it. A angry snarl erupted, and the four gasped.
"Like, you shouldn't done that Coraline," Shaggy said with a whimper.
They took off running farther up the path. They came up to a clearing, and the four were still a little freaked out.
Coraline breathed heavily as she looked around the area.
Suddenly they heard the cat screech again, but it was right in front of them. Shaggy, Scooby, Courage and Coraline all screamed, for they're surprised.
"You scared us to DEATH you mangy thing," Coraline scolded the cat, picking her rod back up and taking her bag off. She tossed it several feet forward, "We're just looking for an old well. Know it?"
The cat blinked and bowed its head.
"Not talking, huh?" Coraline said.
Coraline shrugged, lifting her rod she closed her eyes, spinning slowly in a circle. "Magic dowser, magic dowser, show me...the well!" she shouted.
A loud air horn blew in the pine stand at the top of the hill behind them, the group all jumped and spun towards the sound. In the trees was a GROTESQUE figure with three glowing green eyes in a skull reared up on a motorbike.
Lightning flashed, thunder cracked, and the engine revved Coraline gasped and the cat's eyes went wide.
"Zoinks!" Shaggy shrieked, as Scooby and Courage jumped in each others arms.
The figure zoomed down the irregular dirt hill in a series of zigzags, pedaling quickly. It headed straight for the four, pulling a wheelie on the way.
"Ronster!" Scooby called out in fear.
Coraline screamed, holding her dowsing rod up like a baseball bat. The cat leaped off the stump, "Get away from us!"
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage dodged it, but Coraline was not so lucky as she was knocked into a mud puddle.
As the figure passed the stump it leaped up off the bike, which tipped to one side. The figure landed solidly and immediately climbed up on the stump, still holding the rod. There was more thunder and lightning as it turned a crank on the side of its head, causing its eyes to rotate while Coraline fearfully got to her feet. Mud stuck to her raincoat.
The four friends stared up at the figure, trembling in fright as its eyes rotated several times.
Courage backed away in fear, "Please don't hurt us!"
Then the skull blinked out and the figure tossed its head up. Coraline, Shaggy, Scooby and Courage stared as the skull and eyes became a mask with three different length microscope lenses that came down over the face like a visor. The skeleton hands were gloves, and the crank turned the lenses. The figure wore jeans, and a black shin-length fireman's coat with silver stripes at the knees, chest, and mid- and upper-forearms.
The collar stuck up in the back. On its feet were what appeared to be old brown lace-up shoes that were too big for the feet. When the mask flew up, instead of a monster they saw a boy of about Coraline's age, with skin the color of hot chocolate with a lot of milk and brown eyes.
He waved the rod around in various different positions of examination and cocked his head at them, "Ooh, let me guess. You're from Texas or Utah, someplace dried-out and barren, right?" They stared at him, and he continued. "I heard about 'water witching' before, but it doesn't make sense." He shook the rod in one hand. "I mean, it's just an ordinary branch."
"Umm," Courage began.
"It's a DOWSING ROD," Coraline snapped, striding forward. She slapped the boy's knee hard.
"Owww!" the mask slipped back down over his face and he let go of the rod, hopping on one foot and rubbing his knee. Coraline leaped into the air and caught it.
The boy pulled his mask off and threw it to one side, revealing curly brown hair that stuck out from his head on both sides. It almost made him look like he was wearing a very short, very narrow-brimmed sombrero. The cat leaped up onto the stump.
"And we don't like being stalked, not by psycho nerds, OR their cats!" Coraline tilted her head until it was nearly perpendicular to the ground, imitating the cat.
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage didn't want to say a word, for they're the ones that liked to get into arguments. The timid three just stood there quietly, and he looked at the cat. The cat looked at the three best friends almost as if…he knew something about them and Coraline.
"He's not really MY cat," the boy said, "He's kind of feral. You know, wild?" he waved his hands in the air and then went down on one knee to pet the cat. "Of course, I do feed him every night, and sometimes he'll come to my window and bring me little dead things," he smiled as the cat leaped off the stump.
This creeped Shaggy, Scooby and Courage out.
Coraline sighed in exasperation, "Look. I'm from Pontiac."
"Huh?" the boy asked, looking down at her.
"Michigan?" Coraline clarified, "And if I'm a 'water witch,' then WHERE'S the secret well?" she stamped one foot.
"You stomp too hard and you'll fall in it!" he pointed at the mushroom ring.
Coraline looked down, "Oh!" she jumped out of the ring.
The boy leaped down from the stump and scraped away some of the dirt inside the ring, "See?" he knocked on the exposed wood and there was a hollow thudding, "It's supposed to be so deep, if you fell to the bottom and looked up, you'd see a sky full of stars in the middle of the day."
"Zoinks, that's deep," Shaggy whined, with a bit of shock.
The boy placed a stick over a rock and inserted the end of the stick under the cover of the well. He pushed his foot down on it and the cover came up with a creak, causing all the dirt in the ring to slide away. He removed the stick and the cover fell back into place. Shaggy, Scooby, Courage and Coraline got down to look at it.
"'I'm surprised she let you move in," the boy commented, looking at the pink house down below, "My grandma? She owns the Pink Palace. Won't rent to people with kids."
"Rhat do you mean?" Scooby asked nervously.
"We-w-well, I'm not supposed to talk about it," the boy stammered, "I'm Wybie. Wybie Lovate," he shook hands with the four.
"Nice to meet you Wybie, but I have a question. If you're not supposed to talk about it, why did you mention it?" Courage asked.
Wybie looked at Shaggy, Scooby and Courage, and back at Coraline.
"Is this your brother and dogs or something?" Wybie asked.
"No, they're my friends, they're just visiting for the week," Coraline said annoyed a bit, "Wait…WYBIE?"
"Short for WYBORNE," Wybie said, shrugging. "Not MY idea, of course. What'd you four get saddled with?"
Coraline rolled her eyes. "We weren't 'saddled' with anything. I'm Coraline."
"Norville, but everyone calls me Shaggy."
"Scooby-Doo."
"Courage."
Wybie was chasing the cat around, Caroline what?"
Once again people got Coraline's name wrong. Shaggy, Scooby and Courage knew it was one of her pet peeves. It took them WEEKS for him to finally get it right, they decided to stay out of this fight.
"CORALINE!" the blue-haired girl echoed in frustration. She stamped her foot, "Coraline Jones."
"Hm," Wybie muttered, as he caught up to the cat and bent down to pet it, "It's not very scientific, but I heard that an ordinary name like Caroline and Norville can lead people to have ordinary expectations about a person."
"WYBORNE!"
Shaggy, Scooby, Courage, Coraline and the cat all looked up. The voice had come out of the distance.
"Like, I think somebody's calling for you Wybie," Shaggy said politely.
"I didn't hear anything," Wybie said nervously.
"Oh we heard someone calling you Why-Were-You-Born," Coraline remarked.
"Coraline! That's not very nice!" Courage hissed.
"WYBORNE!"
Wybie blinked fearfully and swallowed hard, "Grandma!" he whispered. He chuckled uncomfortably and picked up his mask, and set his bicycle upright, "Well, great to meet a Michigan water witch and your friends."
Coraline glared at him, thumping her rod into her hand like it was a weapon she was waiting to use.
Wybie put the mask on and climbed onto his bike, "But...I'd wear gloves next time."
"Why?" Coraline asked skeptically.
"Cause that dowsing rod of yours?" he said Coraline, "It's, ah, poison oak."
Coraline yelped, dropping the stick like it was on fire and frantically wiping her hands on her raincoat. Scooby stifled a giggle.
Wybie pulled his mask down and quickly pedaled off down the hill and out of sight. Coraline looked after him and stuck her tongue out, Shaggy, Scooby and Courage turned to the cat with uncomfortable smiles.
The cat looked up at the group, shook his head, and ran off.
"Scoob, can you get me a pebble or something?" Coraline asked.
"Rokay," Scooby grinned, immediately brightened up.
Scooby then picked up a peace of dirt, and handed over to Coraline, as she dropped it in a little hole in the well. Shaggy, Scooby, Courage and Coraline waited for quite a while for the splash. Eventually they heard the splash.
"Like dude, I sure hope I never fall in there," Shaggy shuddered.
"Reah, me too," Scooby agreed with a whimper.
"I'll say," Courage nodded nervously.
"What do three chickens have to be scared of? You're only going to be here for a week. I've got my whole life here to be scared of falling in that well," Coraline pointed out.
Well that's all for this chapter, I like to think for the kid voice actors who would play Shaggy, Scooby and Courage would be Iain Armitage who play young Shaggy in Scoob, for Shaggy (Obviously) Christine Cavanaugh who played Chuckie in The Rugrats would play Scooby. And Jeff Bennett who played Petrie in The Land Before Time franchise would play Courage. (Who later also played Eustace in Scooby-Doo Meets Courage The Cowardly Dog Movie.)
This is Vakarns signing out.
