Chapter: Why you mustn't bite the Hand that keeps you
OOOOO
"I don't understand why" a hand went up to stop him from talking "But" a snap of the finger shut his jaws with a click then huffed in annoyance but remained quiet.
On the outskirts of town, the two sat in the thick foliage of the trees under the cover of darkening sky as the silent one sat on the highest branch with their arms and legs crossed with eyes closed in concentration as their partner laid back on the branch underneath them.
They have been in this tree for the last two days after leaving the Leaf Village the day before and Milo is starting to get antsy.
The mission was, to put it plainly, sketchy at best.
When they left the gates of the village, Roxanne apologized first that earned her a quizzical brow then she grabbed his arm and his world turned on his axels. In which resulted him to fall to his knees and lose his breakfast on the ground with a hand rubbing circles on his back. Taking the offered bottled water in his face to swish out his mouth, Milo stood and breathed in the seaside, looking over from the beach to the never-ending ocean across. Looking to his left then to his right then turning to his girl who looked back without an ounce of expression on her face and turned to walk away from the ocean sight. Taking in the palm trees, white sandy beach, and crisp clear water before shaking his head and following his girl.
It'll do him no good to get angry, even more so to assume where they are since the ocean is from all sides of the continent and so, Milo followed his girl but did spread out his senses. He wasn't prepared to feel nothing: no beings of animal or people, not even birds!
"Baby?" a nod in acknowledgment "Where in the fuck are we?"
"One of the islands of Sea. This one is uninhabited because nothing else grows here besides trees and other plants
Silence.
Silence.
Then….
"WHAT THE FUCK!?"
The islands?! The fucking Islands?! That was at least a thousand miles (or more) from the fire nation. The Islands?!
"How in the fuck did we get here?!" Milo yelled at the retreating back of his girl with her tail swishing behind her happily. "Baby? There is no way anyone could travel that fast and that far; even you can't do it" Pointing at her retreating back.
"Yet here we are, daddy" Spreading out her arms to prove her point then turned to Milo "The yellow flash could do it so why couldn't I?" Turning back to keep walking, Roxanne smirked when she heard a growl behind her. Milo followed and yelled, stomping to his girl,
"You are not the yellow flash!" Roxanne stopped at the venom in his voice and turned with a glint in her eyes as Milo swallowed his dry throat at the look. Nothing good comes from that look.
"No. Because that famous yellow flash needs a marker to go from place to place. So I've been told. However. I only need to have been there once to go" Milo furrowed his brows in confusion then shivered when Roxanne smirked and swallowed the last of his saliva at the mischief in her eyes.
"Case in point" Was all the warning Milo got before his world turned upside down again and he fell on his knees to dry heaved on the dry, hot ground when they landed again on solid level. Wiping his mouth with his sleeve, Milo looked up to the burning sun and dry air to see rocky terrain all around.
Falling back on his behind, Milo looked up to his girl smirking at him and she held up a finger.
"Once" was all she said as Milo stared with wide eyes and slacked jaw.
"How in the hell did you figure this out? We've been together for months?" Which was true and Milo would have noticed if his girl was training this special skill while they were together but other then her running off that time without his knowledge, they have never been separated.
Or so he thought.
"That's what clones are for, daddy, that's what clones are for" Roxanne said. Milo and Roxanne stared at each other before Milo took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and shook his head before getting to his feet, following as his girl started leading the way down the slope of the hill.
After awhile, Milo got his scrambled brains together, he asked why, and Roxanne knew what he meant:
"When we were leaving the gates, I felt eyes on the back of my head" At that, Milo growled deep in his chest at the thought of someone spying on them, again, especially his girl, again, and he clenched his fists.
"Fuckers" was all he said as he took out the envelope from inside his vest with gusto, ripped it open and took out the document to read over.
"Let me guess: a town overrun by ruthless mercenaries, savages and all-around bad men, etc. Taking women, children, valuables, etc. and killing the men left and right. High bounties on their heads, dead or alive. Am I close?"
Milo snorted "Right on the dot, baby" then handed the papers to Roxanne who lit it up with her chakra after taking a quick read.
"This mission smells worse than the bog of eternal stench" she said as Milo took Roxanne's hand and giving it a squeeze. "In a town in the back woods too, perfect place to get ambushed from all sides" Looking around the heated desert "How dumb do they think we are?"
"They've read the reports, they've heard the stories and with my brief interaction with them once, safe to say: very" Chuckling to herself as Milo squeezed her hand.
"So. Plan?"
Which is where Milo is now: sitting under the branch Roxanne is concentrating on.
Two days in this tree, eating their rations and waiting for words from her clones: Twenty clones scouring the town, gathering information on the happenings of the town but by the feel of it, Milo felt antsy.
When they got to the base of this tree, Roxanne spread her senses as far as she can to get the feel of the town but stopped suddenly. Crouching down to the ground and placed her hand on the dirt, Roxanne closed her eyes then spread out her senses into the ground and Milo was surprised, he's never seen her do this before, but he waited for his girl to let him know. When she stood back up and then jumped to the highest branch, Milo followed without question because he knew she would tell him when she's ready but wasn't ready to hear the part about:
"Hired thugs" Looking down to her Jonin "You may have been a hermit before me but I wasn't. Every single thug I've come across in my travels over the years has always had this distinct mark on their beings, like a business card on their soul or something, that's how I am able to tell them apart. Even during our sweep, I crossed off some names on the list I've encountered over the years but there are some still out there" Sitting on the branch and crossing her legs, Roxanne did the signs for the multi clone and twenty popped into existence on the ground level. Without a word they all spread out as Milo looked on, confused on the happening as this wasn't part of the plan but then again, what was the plan exactly?
That was two days ago, and Milo looked up to his girl "Baby?"
Finally, a pair of purple orbs opened and looked down to him with a small smile. Uncrossing her arms and legs, hearing the joints pop and Roxanne groan when she stretched out all her limbs. Hopping down from her branch, Roxanne wrapped her arms around Milo's neck, legs around his torso and sitting in his lap, Roxanne licked up his throat with a purr before nuzzling into his neck. Milo chuckled quietly before tightening his own arms around his girl as he looked over to the town way ahead.
"Baby?" a hum "What did you do?"
"Recon. The only ones we need to worry about are the ones at their hideout, the rest are hardly worth my fangs" Roxanne felt Milo's arms tighten around her but continued.
"Five bosses and these bosses made a name for themselves. Unfortunately, I can't remember what" Milo snorted in amusement at his girl's quip then leaned down to inhale her scent as she kept going, "They were paid half up front and the other half only after the job is done with proof, most likely our heads, and this plan has been in the works since we got back to the village"
Milo looked to the town up ahead and asked: "How did you find all this out, I doubt anyone would just talk with anyone around about what they're up to" His girl shrugged,
"Humans do not give notice to critters or birds, and they do not know of this one bird" Roxanne said as she pointed up but with the sky darkening and the tree foliage, Milo couldn't see what she was pointing at and so shrugged as he laid his head on hers. A few moments went by as they sat in silence, enjoying each other then a buzz of radio static sounded that had Roxanne leaning back and bring a hand to her ear.
Milo chuckled as he nuzzled her other cheek as he mumbled, "Why are they making this so easy for us? We should send out all our alias to different parts of the town, split them up to keep them busy and we go after the bosses"
"Or catch them all and give them a choice in the matter of their lives" Milo snapped his head back with an incredulous look "What? I'm not unreasonable" another look "The five are the ones we need to pay attention too. The rest are hired hands who didn't even snatch a single person or hurt anyone in the last two days. Hired hands they are but bloody hand they are not" Milo blinked at his girl, taking in the words she's saying, and he was filled with warmth at the thought of his girl thinking clearly about the situation and doing the research.
"Now there is no time limit seeing as we left our straggler behind when we left the village" Milo said as he rubbed her back with his hands,
"Who should be in this town later on tonight" Looking to her Jonin "By the time they show up, my fun begins" Leaning up to kiss under Milo's jaw making the Jonin laugh.
"And I bet you know that because you have them tailed" Milo felt a nod at his throat that made him laugh a little more then leaned away from those lips to bring their foreheads together.
"Ready to play?" a nod "Good. I like watching you play" kissing her nose as she giggled, Milo dropped down off the branch to the ground below and held his girl to his hip as he started walking to the town.
OOOOO
Knives rubbed against each other as the sounds of whimpering could be heard in the room along with intense struggling from the ones in the highest level of an abandon three story building, but nothing could be heard beyond that as the whole floor was sealed shut.
Five bodies were laid out, bound by their limbs, on a metal table to one side of the large room as ten other bodies hung by their wrists from the rafters above and standing on the tips of their toes, trying to get loose and their muffled groaning through the gag in their mouths. They watched as the one being was sharpening their blades and the other sat in a comfy couch, watching the proceedings from the sidelines.
Knives kept rubbing against each other, sharpening themselves for what's to come as the one sitting shivered in obvious delight.
When the night fell and the evening rush came, so did eight travelers from different entrances to the town. All were kept a close eye on, not from the towns people, they could care less unless they had pockets full of spending money but it being dinner time, they dismissed it and went back to work. The ones who watched, however, stayed close to each of the eight walking through the town without being too obvious.
Radio talk could be whispered among them, confirming the description given days before hand and concluded that two of the eight were the ones they need to grab but they'll wait until they could confirm which of the two they will get.
A pair of kids ran by them, one accidently bumping into them and apologized before running after their friend. They dismissed it and kept watch.
What the group didn't know was that they were being watched also, from the cracks in the wall or the lowest tree branch in the areas.
As the group followed a pair of twins holding hands, another group followed a little blonde girl being carried by their dark-haired father on the other side of the town. One other group kept close to a dark hair child following their own father as she giggled into the hand that held hers. The last two had their faces covered but one quick look to the eye of the shorter one, they see violet eyes and knew they got them.
That group radio in that they got their mark and followed. The rest stayed with their own pairs so they can strike at the same time when the other says they are ready, just in case.
At the hideout, five individuals sat around a radio, listening in on what going on out there and smiled to each other when they heard they saw their mark. Their own personal guards stood watch in the building, making sure none of the other hired hands were in the building since they pitched them somewhere else or on the outskirts of the town, so they don't catch wind of the actual real plan.
Some voices static through the radio noise, not really remembering who is who but it's of no matter, they'll be rid of once the bosses get their hands on the two they were hired to get.
Of course, none of the bosses imagined the two they were supposed to get, and kill, would be very dangerous, mainly because they didn't bother to ask since the dollars outweighed the curiosity. That was their first mistake and they'd realized it much later when they were being held down.
As they listened in on the radio, the ground level guards did their rounds and after checking in their position, slumped to the ground simultaneously with a shadow standing over them with a fangy smile. Weapons and earpiece taken and stashed, another set of clones tied up the guards and threw them over their shoulders, following the two that climbed the stairs quietly. Peeking from behind the door frame, they caught the last bit of checking in before the one sprung into action and knocked out the guards, a new set of clones catching each one before they touched the floor. Weapons taken, earpiece pocketed, body tied and thrown over their shoulders, the clones followed the rest up to the last floor:
One did the signs to seal in the hall so the people behind the double doors would not hear any disturbance. The guards that are left outside the door checked in with the guards on the inside and once they got confirmation thru the earpiece, did they grunt at the hard blow to their temples and out like a light. The clones removed their weapons, earpieces and threw their slumped bodies over their shoulders then stood to the side as their boss and her Jonin opened the doors, surprising the room. Quickly, Roxanne dropped the rest of the guards as Milo strolled into the room to the five sitting around a radio with his hands behind his back and a smile.
"I believe you were expecting us"
OOOOO
Ten guards awoke to their arms straining from being hung by a rope from the rafters, jaws sore from the ball gag in their mouths and blinked the brightness of the room away. Once their vision cleared, they began struggling in their binds, but they could hardly move their strained limbs and wondered how long they have been hanging. They cringed when they heard blades rubbing against each other and looked up to see a young girl sharpening her blades ahead of them, standing in front of five tables where their bosses laid struggling and trying to talk over their own gags.
"You picked the wrong side when you decided to take on this job" stopping the blades "Then again, we can't fault you for not knowing the finer details of this job. Did the hands you hired knew they weren't getting a cut of this deal?" Dropping her hands as the girl walked the length of the tables "Did they know that you were going to slit their throats after they gave us to you?" Stopping at the end of the row and tapping her blade on the table by a foot,
"These hands you hired are just trying to feed their families and you were going to throw them away like nothing" a smile "Something I can not abide by" Turning away from the table to look to the dangling guards "I am not unreasonable, but I am not a chump either" Walking to the guards, waving her blades at them.
"You, however, belong to these five. Were going to dispose of these hard-working people at the orders of your masters, weren't you?" Stopping in front of one as she slid one of her blades up his leg that had him struggling even more "You are nothing but puppets to these" waving her other blade to the tables "Puppeteers" spitting the word then looked up to the one hanging as her blade went a little further up "I will decide after what to do to the rest of you" removing the blade, the girl turned back to the tables as she resume tapped her blades together.
"Your hired hands are on the floor below us" the tables snapped their heads up "They heard everything I've just said" struggling "I will pay them for their troubles with your blood money" head thunked down on the table "Only if they leave now and never utter a word of this" the girl said out loud then waited.
Then she brought a hand to her ear, mumbled something, and smiled, showing her fangs "They all agreed" nodding to her friend who stood and went to the door as the girl released the sealed room. "I took the half from you all and took the other half from the one who was supposed to retrieve our heads as proof that the job was done" as she said this, the door opened as the man took out a cash bag, tossed it out and then reached out to pull something in. A man who is bound was thrown in the room with a grunt and they started to crawl away, whimpering. The man closed the door and went over to the crawling one to put his foot on the back of the man and pressed down, making the whimpering into a painful one.
"Now this one" said the girl as she walked over to the two and crouched down to the man, lifting his head with the flat side of her blade. "This one works for the ones who hired you. Tried to follow us but that didn't work out as instead he ended up being followed" Removing the blade and stood, nodding to the man as she turned back to the group.
Milo smiled down at the man under his foot and hauled him up. Dragging the man as he tried to struggle but the bounds were tight and Milo took him over to the couch, dropping him before sitting down next to him. Turning to his left, Milo refilled his cup and sat back, ready to enjoy the show.
"He gets to live" Roxanne announced to the room "Only to go back to the buyers to report to them what will happen here. Like you, he picked the wrong side, and he gets to see the little extent of how far we'll go"
Those are the last words before the screaming began.
OOOOO
A body was dropped unceremoniously in the middle of the night in front of the Hokage's office. The man groaned in pain but clutched the bundle in his arms to his chest as he slowly climbed to his feet. Limping to the doors, he pushed it open and made his way through the deserted hallways to an office he knew without looking up. After a while, he pushed opened a door and closed it behind him then made his way to a corner couch where he dropped down on his sides and went limp with exhaustion. Taking a breath then loses consciousness while clutching the bundle tightly in his arms.
OOOOO
As the first rays of sunlight show through, a pair of violet eyes opened slowly to the bright room and blinked the sleep away. Taking stock of the room along with the body spooning behind her, Roxanne rolled on to her stomach and stretched, feeling her joints pop. The arm that held her, began to rub her back as she curled in a fetal position then pushed herself up on her hands and knees. Getting off the bed, Roxanne reached for the ceiling to stretch out her body then bend down to touch her toes and then began her morning exercise as Milo watched from his pillow.
His girl was something last night and slept through the night like a baby after they cleaned up…. Well, after she cleaned up. When Roxanne came back from dropping off the follower, she took them to a city somewhere on the east coast and after covering herself in a cloak, checked into a hotel. Milo carried their packs to their room and when the door closed, Roxanne made a bee line for a much-needed shower to clean off all the blood that splattered on her person. Taking off his shoes and going to the bed, Milo undressed to his boxer shorts and sat on the bed, opening her pack to take out a set of clean clothes for her then Milo laid back on the bed with a sigh and thought:
'After tonight, no one would dare try to get us again' He smiled and when the door open to let the steam out, Milo sat up and pulled the covers off the bed and got under, laying on his head on a pillow as he watched his girl take the clean clothes to change in the bathroom. Yawning and settling down before the door opened again and Roxanne climbed into bed, laying down on her own pillow with her own yawn. Turning to her side and got comfortable, Roxanne looked to her Jonin who gave a sleepy smile as he took her hand and kissed her knuckle.
"Why is it that these people are easy to get to at night but take forever to talk?" Milo asked as he yawned again and closed his eyes but heard his girl quietly chuckle.
"Probably think when the night comes and they will be protected, I don't know" Snuggling down to her pillow, Milo could hear her breathing even out, knowing she's fast asleep. Kissing her hand one more time, Milo fell asleep to her breathing.
Now watching that body do push ups on the floor, Milo stretched on the bed, hummed as his body woke up then sat up and tossed the covers away. Standing then reaching for the ceiling, Milo began his own stretches on the other side of the bed. When Roxanne finished her sets, she went to their bags at the end of the bed, picking both up and set them on their respectful sides at the foot of the bed then picked up a satchel by her side on the nightstand, loving the heaviness of it. Milo smiled as he finished his sets then went to the bathroom to wash up as he heard his girl sat down and upend the satchel to spill their bounty on the bed.
After his girl was done playing last night, he chuckled at the term, and she handed the job of clean up off to some of the clones, Roxanne went back to the hanging men who whimpered and shuddered at her closeness. His girl smiled as she rubbed her bloodied hands together with a gleeful, fanged smile:
"Now then. Who wants to be first?"
Milo chuckled at that thought as he splashed water on his face. He loved her mind games as much as he loves her play time, but it was cut short when half the men just slumped and accepted their fate which put a pout on his girl's face. Throwing her hands up and huffing:
"Dammit! It's no fun when they give in so easily" Turning back to Milo "Daddy, make them stop!" Milo just laughed at his girl from his seat,
"I'm sorry baby" he said as he took a sip of his drink.
"Fine" she groaned very disgruntled as she turned back to the hanging men "I'm not a chump but I know puppets when I see them and you're all worth more to me alive then dead" All ten heads snapped up with wide eyes staring at his girl in disbelief "Those five were just made an example of so" She went to one man and extended her claws to run up his leg as he shivered and whimpered, trying to lean away from the touch "Consider this night the end of your profession and next time I see you" Roxanne dug her claws in the leg as the man gasped at the pain and Milo smiled when he saw red blotches appear on the man's pant leg underneath her claws "Should I really go into details?"
All the men shook their heads. Roxanne smiled as she removed her claws:
"Good. My girls will take you down, untie you and clean you up downstairs. You will cooperate in appreciation to my generous offer" Bringing her fingertips to her mouth to lick the blood off as her smile widen and the men got the meaning those eyes: Do as she says and they get to walk out of there.
Nodding their understanding and Roxanne turned back to the tables where the bloodied tables are now clean and each dismembered head was packed separately in plastic bags then stuffed in a sack. The bodies nowhere to be seen as one clone handed the bundled sack to Roxanne then nodded to the rest to go to the hanging men.
Roxanne slung the sack over her shoulder and went to the two sitting on the couch where Milo downed his last sip then stood, hauling the tied man to his feet before pulling out a knife for which the man gasped and struggled. Milo shook his head and sighed in annoyance at the man before cutting his bindings and pushing said man to Roxanne who smirked before they both puffed out.
Drying his face, Milo went back to the main room where he watched as Roxanne was separating their bounty. He's glad that most nations are open to receiving bounties at all hours of the day and night, and as they slept, her clones did the heavy work. Going over to the bed, Milo dropped down on his stomach and hugged his pillow as he listened to his girl's movement as she counted. Milo turned his head to look at his girl, a thought and groan came:
"We still have to pawn the other merch before heading back to the village" Roxanne looked up from her task and shook her head,
"We are not going back anytime soon" then went back to her counting as Milo looked confused at the comment.
"And why, pray tell, are we not going back, sweetie?" Roxanne continued to count and separate the money, not answering the Jonin's question that made Milo sit up to ask again when Roxanne looked up with a wicked grin that Milo knew meant trouble.
Usually for him.
"We need to train" Which he knew to translate to: 'You need to train.' And Milo raised a brow but made the wicked grin wider on his girl as Roxanne pushed his cut of cash toward him.
"Daddy" Here we go "You didn't even know I was training my clones" She had a point "I know we've taken it easy, maybe even before we got back to the village, but I can only stay put for so long" Milo snorted as he knew Roxanne would never stay put for long. Then Milo thought it out:
The higher ups tried to kill them by hiring thugs who weren't worth much. The Hokage most likely didn't know their plans. They were in the village for a couple days, getting rested and paid for the months long travel. This money from the bodyguards is peanuts to her but adding in Milo's growing accounts plus the cheques they didn't have time to send out to her accountants, they were very well off. Her friends were still in the village but the Hyuga boy left the day before they did, on a mission with his own team… boy?
It struck Milo like lightening as he bolted up from his position and stared into his girl's eyes.
"Your boys are on their way back" he stated and knew the answer before Roxanne nodded. "So you want to train so you can what? Not show them how strong you really are?"
Milo knew himself how strong Roxanne is, she did carry him all over the entire continent, plus with her clones training and he knew when they stepped back in the village, she hid her strength but with a good-trained eye, they would spot the difference in her. Milo would bet his earnings that she was stronger then all four combined but why….
"You want me to train, just in case they find out" Huffing then shaking his head in amusement.
"Daddy is so smart" Roxanne cooed at him as she caressed his cheek that made him snort and chuckle before putting his own hand over her.
"And what? You going to train me till I die, then what?" Nuzzling into her hand and giving her palm a kiss.
"Then I'd tell you to walk it off and keep going" Milo laughed as he pulled his girl onto his lap, letting their pile of money mix together as he ran his hand through her hair and kissed her deeply. Tongues fought, hands wandered, and Milo flipped them so Roxanne is under him, giggling at the change of position. Giving one last kiss, Milo lifted his head and smiled down at his girl who ran her hands over his neck and shoulders.
"what's the plan then?" Leaning down to nuzzle her neck as she sighed.
"Cash in the merchandise, make a detour to the accounts then go to my special grounds."
"What special grounds?"
OOOOO
"You didn't FUCKING say we were going to the Fucking Land of Snow and Ice!" Milo yelled over the blizzard winds, covering his face with his arms to keep the icy snow from biting his exposed flesh, Milo looked around to see nothing pass 2 feet from their position. He heard Roxanne laugh since he couldn't see her from the blizzard, but he caught what she threw at him.
After they packed and checked out, Roxanne took them through the metropolis of towering buildings to the financial district of the city they stayed in. One building caught his eye with its reflective windows shining the morning sun all around them and as they neared, Milo figured that's where they are going.
He will not repeat what he saw or heard but when he signed the documents, Milo actually felt like he signed his life away to the group.
Grabbing a quick meal and coffee, they set off to pawn in their merchandise separately to save time and when they met up again, Roxanne had a big duffle bag. Before any comments could come forward, Roxanne smiled at him, grabbed his arm and the world turned on its axis. Luckily, he landed on his two feet and didn't upchuck his small meal or coffee.
Holding the bag now, Milo unzipped it and there in the bag was a blue parka, thick and warm. Pulling it out, dropping that bag and his own pack to put on the now warmer layer, lifting the hood over his head and turned to ask his girl where hers was when he saw that she was wearing a long jacket but not as thick as his parka. Looking back down to the bag, Milo picked it up and took out some thick gloves, hat and goggles. Looking for more, Milo saw that the bag was now empty and looked up to his girl when he again saw he already had her own pairs of gloves, hat and googles on. Roxanne took the bag, rolled it up and packed in in her pack. Milo covered himself from the cold and without a word, followed his girl.
When he took the first step, Milo strained from the weight now pushing him down and he didn't need to be a genius to figure out that Roxanne had put some weight markers on his newly acquired attire. Knowing he can't bitch about it since he knows she can hear him over the howling winds, Milo took a breath then kept following Roxanne.
Now; walking through deep snow, in a blizzard, WITH weighted clothing for a long period of time would of completely drenched him in sweat but it seems like his girl thought it through when getting him the clothes. He knew he should be sweating, freezing from the sweat layering his body and probably die of hyperthermia. And yet, he still walking through the deep snow, following his girl the long distance and yet he feels dry as a paper towel.
Another one of those things he doesn't want to know about and so, he treks on behind his girl.
Milo guessed they walked maybe a mile through the wall of snow before parts of it started to lighten up in the howling and snow fall. Wiping any excess snow off his googles, Milo could see an outline of trees?
Getting closer and closer, Milo's earlier guess was not what he's seeing now. A literal wall of ice came into view, could have been trees that have frozen over or ice spiking out from the ground, Milo is not sure. All around them, like they grown that way from layers and layers of snow and ice, a frozen forest of columns of icicles surrounded them as they made their way through and as Milo looked up, he couldn't see beyond anything. Following his girl through the ice passage for how ever long until Milo bumped into her back with a grunt and brought his hands up to her shoulders and looked over to see an actual wall of ice.
Roxanne ungloved one of her hands to bring it up and with one step forward, her hand touched the ice wall and suddenly everything stopped: The snow stopped falling, the wind stopped blowing and the whiteness disappeared. Everything just stopped.
Milo looked up from the hand on the wall to the endless wall of ice, then Milo felt his girl shift her shoulders to signal him to look. When he did, he saw that her hand was glowing red then it spread throughout the entire wall, shimmered then stopped. Milo felt Roxanne take a step and he followed right behind as they walked through the wall.
From the whiteness of the outside, they came in through the darkness as their feet crunched the snow from underneath their feet onto solid ground. Milo looked back to see the opening they just came through only for that to close and they are left in darkness.
A snap caught his attention, and he turned back to see a small fireball hovering above Roxanne's gloved hand. Nodding ahead, Roxanne leads the way through the tunnel, the ceiling just above Milo's head. They walked for awhile with the fireball lighting their way, Milo noticed the walls were covered in a sheet of ice and ran his gloved hands along the walls. Soon they reached the end of the tunnel to a large open room and Milo stopped to look around, but Roxanne kept walking and as she neared the middle, she stopped by a fire pit covered in frost. Milo followed to stand next to her but then he felt something, a tingling of sort.
Looking around the darken room with only the fire ball to light their area, Milo searched with his senses but found nothing that would explain the sensation.
"You feel it, right?" his girl asked as she dropped the ball onto the frost covered pit. Milo kept searching out "Expand your senses to the ground below" Milo did that and what he felt made him step back "There it is" she said.
"Baby, what is that?" His senses were telling him something was underneath them but all he could pinpoint was a murmur, like a whisper trying to catch his attention, reaching out to him.
"That is the mountain. She wants to wake up again" Milo's eyes widen, and his breath hitched, as he turned to his girl as she took off her gloves.
"The mountain is alive?" he whispered as she nodded.
"She's old, very old and she would like to wake up now"
"Baby, is that a good idea?" Roxanne nodded as she lifted her hand to the pit and laid them on the frost covered stone. Channeling her chakra, her fire element, Roxanne pushed it out through her hands which began to glow into the stones of the pit. Another push, her chakra covered the massive pit then to the ground below their feet and as Roxanne took a deep breath, she gave her last full push and the entire room lit up brightly. Milo closed his eyes but grabbed onto Roxanne's jacket. Once the light dimmed, Milo opened his eyes to see an entirely different view.
The room, once dark, now lit up by the fire pit burning and torches along the walls, the frost completely gone, Milo saw the height of the ceiling was high and the room had many doorways leading elsewhere. To his right looked like an old-fashioned kitchen, counters and sink, and shelves filled with rations. To the left of the kitchen are piles of woods for the fire pit. To his left are what seems to be supplies and a couple cots. If they weren't in the Land of snow, Milo would of said they were back in the Land of Rock at Roxanne's hideout, this looked just like it.
Suddenly, Milo felt a tingling at his feet and looked down to see nothing. He looked up at his girl giggling as she took of her outer wear.
"She's just saying hello" Milo stared "Go ahead, feel out your senses".
Milo worried for a moment then reached out only to be hit with a warm fuzzy feeling once his senses made the connection and he smiled. "Hello" he said, and the fuzzy feeling gave a nod in greeting that made him laugh.
"Its always good to meet new people and believe me, she welcomes it" Milo nodded then started to take off his extra layers.
"How did you find her, this place looked just like your place in Rock" Milo asked.
"When I first came here, I heard stories about the columns and how it's been there for as long as the villages has been around the mountain, maybe even longer. Which it has. Anyways, many of the nearby villages have their own theories but I wanted to see for myself. The dead end" nodding to the entrance "was a hidden doorway to this. And when I touched the door, it pulled me in. I walked into this room and there was this pit" pointing to the blazing fire "In the back of my mind I felt this whisper, this murmur and when I touched the stones around the pit, it pulled at my chakra" Roxanne smiled as she sat down on the stones, lightly patting said stones "So I gave it my all and boom: instant connection. The place melted of the ice covering everything and the connection woke up" Looking to her Jonin, Roxanne shrugged "I'm not sure how to explain it but it reminds me of old stories of how trees used to walk, and mountains could talk" Milo raised a brow "Howling winds, I don't know. Anyways she, I call her a she because after much time spent in this mountain, it felt like a she. Anyways, she helped with the décor because before it was just these walls and tunnels leads places into the mountain. I gave an image of what I wanted and she improvised. I was very grateful when she made running water somehow. I couldn't ask but very grateful to be able to take a shower after training for how many days here"
Roxanne then stood up and nodded her head to the kitchen "The rations should still be edible, and the bathroom is over there" pointed to a door to the left of Milo "We eat and rest tonight but tomorrow" Letting the line linger as she smiled.
"Tomorrow, you'll kill me before lunch" Milo said, making a joke and laughed when the tingling in his foot vibrated. Roxanne smiled at her Jonin and went to where the supplies sat. Grabbing two cots, shaking them of any dust and brought them over to the pit to set up, wiping off any dust left. Milo picked up his stuff and went over, dropping them on one of the cots and headed over to the shelves for a pot. Filling it from the sink, Milo carried it to the pit and hung it from the metal hook. Then went back to look at the labels to see what they have to eat.
Roxanne unrolled their sleeping bags from their packs on the cots and laid down, hands under her head as she listened to her Jonin rummage around. Closing her eyes, Roxanne started planning on what they will do tomorrow or what her Jonin will do tomorrow as she planned to meditate for a while. She was due to meditate as the last time was well before anyone left the village and the months they've been gone needs to be caught up in her mental state.
Her body is ready but like a muscle, her brain needs to be in the same headspace as her body and it'll be at least a week worth of meditation while her Jonin does his own physical training. It'll be good for both of them: Milo training outside in the elements and her inside with no distraction.
Which reminds her…
"Daddy?" a hum to let her know he's listening as he picked what to eat "I'm going to send out a clone to the nearby villager to let them know that I'm back for training" She couldn't see but knows Milo had a brow raised "Better to say it's me or else they'll send someone out here to investigate who you are" A hum in answer.
"So safe to say that I can be as destructive as I want" Roxanne hummed in returned then she did the signs for a clone who sprinted out the tunnel to the entrance. Closing her eyes, Roxanne drifted off to the sounds of her Jonin moving about in the room and the feeling of the mountain buzzing around underground.
