The baby started crying as he appeared in the nursery. The Angel picked up the baby and held him close to his heart as he waited for the witch to come.

"It's all going to be okay," the Angel promised the fussy baby as he heard the creaking sounds of footsteps coming down the hall.

"Is this him?" he heard her ask as she appeared in the doorway.

"Yes, this is my brother's perfect vessel," he stated as he turned to face the fiery, beautiful, but treacherous witch known as Rowena.

"Are we going to be interrupted by the parents or by his brother?" Rowena asked as she pulled out her spell book and flipped through the pages.

"No, I put them in a deep sleep," the Angel said as he paced back and forth trying his best to console the baby.

"Let me see him," Rowena stated. She put the book down on the dresser and held out her arms for the baby.

"Maybe you'll have better luck soothing him," he stated and then sighed as he handed the baby over to Rowena.

"I'll be damned. Maybe he just doesn't like angels," he observed when the baby stopped crying just as soon as he was in the witch's arms.

"Don't take it personally Gabriel. Samuel and I are going to be great friends. I felt this strong connection to him as soon as I entered the room, I'm sure he feels it as well," Rowena said and then kissed the top of the baby's head. "Are you sure that you want to go through with this?" she asked as she looked at the Angel.

"I don't have another option. He's Lucifer's vessel. It always had to be him," Gabriel stated as he pulled out the vial with the grace. He had waited thousands of years for this moment, thousands of years of hiding this grace. There had been a time that he foolishly thought that he could give it back to Lucifer when the poisonous mark had been unloaded on Cain, but the mark had destroyed and corrupted his brother beyond recognition. He thought that there was no hope and then he learned that Sammy had been born and he came up with a plan to save humanity and his brother. It was still a long shot, Sammy might even reject the grace, but it was their only shot and he had to try.

"Is he going to fill any pain when I cast the spell?" Rowena asked.

"Yes, but I'll stop the pain and heal him as soon as I can," Gabriel stated.

Rowena hated the idea of causing her sweet Samuel any pain, but it had to be this way. She knew what Lucifer had become, what he would become. If Samuel couldn't save the fallen Angel, then he was the only one that could stop him, but he would need a power of an Arch Angel to do it, the power that would come from Lucifer's missing grace.

"I hate it to, but we have to do this," Gabriel stated.

"I know, but you're still going to owe me one," Rowena stated as she handed Samuel back to Gabriel. She walked over to the dresser and picked up the spell book.

Rowena cut into her hand and let the blood drip into the bowl. Gabriel sliced Sammy's hand and let it drip into the bowl. He healed the wound when they had the necessary blood from the baby. Sammy's blood was still pure, he knew what the demon's were planning. In one month to the day, the yellow eyed demon would visit the baby and poison him with demon blood. He did his best to tune out Sammy's cries. He touched his forehead, hoping to mute the baby's pain. The next step would be so much worse.

Gabriel placed Sammy in his crib and then sliced his own hand and let the blood drip into the bowl. Rowena stated the words of the spell over and over again. He placed his hand into Sammy's chest and pulled out his soul. Sammy's cries grew silent as his eyes clouded over. Soulless Sammy couldn't feel anything anymore. He placed the soul into the bowl and then he added the last ingredient for the spell, the grace of Lucifer into the bowl. He spoke the required words in Enochian to conclude the spell as Rowena's chanting grew silent.

Rowena grabbed Sammy and ran from the room just in time. There was a shock wave that pushed him backwards as Sammy's soul merged with Lucifer's grace.

He pulled himself up from the ground, the crib had been knocked over, pictures shattered on the ground. His ears were ringing, but other than that all sound seemed to be absent.

He walked over to the dresser and picked up Sammy's soul. The spell seemed to have worked. Sammy's soul had merged completely with the last bit of goodness that Lucifer had.

"Rowena, bring Sammy back in the room," Gabriel ordered as he picked up the soul. It felt strange in his hands, the soul radiated and vibrated. Gabriel felt pure goodness and happiness as he held onto the soul.

"Put the soul back in Samuel this instance," Rowena ordered as she entered the room. There were bite marks all over the witch's arms and the baby just kept on biting her.

Gabriel pushed the soul back into Sammy's chest. He stopped biting Rowena and cried in pain. "Rest now, Sammy, it's all over now," Gabriel said as he placed his hand on the baby's forehead and took away all of the pain.

Sammy closed his eyes and fell asleep in Rowena's arms.

"Do you think it worked?" Rowena asked.

"Yes, Lucifer won't be able to separate that grace from Sam. We will see if it's enough to save my brother's tortured soul, and if it's not…"

"Then Samuel will save us all from Lucifer when he kills him," Rowena finished.

Gabriel shuddered, it had to be enough to save his brother, it just had to be.
