CHAPTER EIGHT
The next day, Lavender was feeling a lot better deciding to walk around the grounds, with how it would be good to get some fresh air and to practice some of her spells. She decided to walk past the hallway that she was in the other day, but as she came up to the hallway, there was nothing there, and only just only a brick wall. Ok. I know there was a hallway here. Or did I take the wrong turn? She questioned herself knowing full well that there was something here, because she remembered the paintings that lined the walls. This really doesn't make sense at all. I probably just went the wrong way and that's why it isn't here. There should be a map of this place, instead of just wondering around and hoping to make it to wherever someone needs to be. Maybe I was just sleep deprived or something. She took one last glance at the wall and continued her way outside.
Once outside, she saw that a few students had a similar idea, since it was nice out. Finding a nice spot under a tree near the lake she pulled out her intro book to spells and her wand. She did a few practices swishing and flicking to just warm up before she casts one of the spells she learned. When she felt good enough, she spotted a leaf a few feet away from her, Lavender pointed her wand and casted wingardium leviosa. The leaf started to lift from the ground, but quickly fell back down not even reaching two inches. Squinting her eyes in annoyance, she tried again, but just like last time, it didn't really move. She knows that she just started, and it takes time to get the spell to work, though she has seen some of her classmates be able to do it in an instant.
Deciding to not let it get to her, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath and when she reopened her eyes, she tried again. This time the leaf lifted a little bit higher than last time. Though it wasn't that much she gained more confidence to not give up. Each time Lavender casted the spell, the leaf lifted higher and higher off the ground until she was able to use the spell on multiple leaves. Making them dance across the sky with the light bouncing off them.
The thought of what happened last night cross Lavender's mind again, still making her question herself. She remembered walking down that hallway after hearing some type of sound and then seeing nothing. Maybe it was another one of the secretes that this castle has, which wouldn't be much of a surprise, since that is something, Hogwarts was known for. her mind then went onto the topic of if she found one of the secrets, then there must be more. Well, there isn't much that I need to get done for my classes tomorrow and I've gotten a handle of this spell. So, I have done something productive, and I could do some more later today. And in all honesty, I need to do something else. Making up her mind Lavender packed up her things and started to make her way to the dorms to drop off her books, since she wouldn't need them. But she was stopped in her tracks when she encountered three Slytherins that was blocking her path.
"Do you mind." lavender asked as she tried to go around them, not wanting to be dealing with anyone at the moment.
"We do mind. You see we've learned that you are someone who understands the assignment in history of magic and that you have already done it." One of the Slytherins stated, making sure that he was blocking her way.
"And what if I do. It's just writing a paper, nothing that hard." Lavender responded, rolling her eyes.
"Yeah well, we just don't have the time to write it and since you don't seem to be doing anything. We thought that you could help us." One of the shorter Slytherin remarked.
"And why would I do your work for you. I'm going to assume that I am not going to get anything out of it. And besides I am doing something right now and don't have time to do such a thing. Now if you excuse me, I got things to do."
"But that's the thing. I don't think you have much of a choice. Since if you don't then sadly, I would have to send some people to go after you friend, Remus. You see I would send them after you, but seeing how you are determined to not do what we ask. I would have to persuade you in a different way. And you don't want to be the blame for getting you friend hurt. Or worse. Now, would you?" directed the first Slytherin.
Lavender hesitated at what the boy was saying, knowing full well that the Slytherins would go to such measures. On one hand she could just walk away and potentially get Remus hurt. Or she could just do it, and no one would get hurt, but also be coerce into doing more of their work. She knows that she could tell a professor, but also knowing that once they get their detention or whatever discipline that they could receive. They could just go ahead with their threat anyways.
"You see after giving your suggestion a thought, I would have to decline. And if you think about going after Remus, I will make all your lives a living nightmare." Taking a step closer to the one who was blocking her way, in order to make her point across, and also not to seem that she was afraid. "So, I suggest you go back to wherever you came from before I make do with said promise. And not only that I will be going tell Professor Slughorn on what you tried to do. Because I do believe in telling someone of higher authority. And if he does ask for proof, I will already have found said proof. Now if you don't mind, I have things to and people to see." And with that she pushed past the boy and continued her way.
Behind her she could hear the shorter boy say, "what should we do now Jake?"
"Just keep walking." Jake, who was the one to confront Lavender first, grumbled.
As Lavender kept on walking, she could feel the heat start radiating off her. Once she turned the corner, she stopped in her tracks in order to calm herself, knowing that her frustration would cause more problems for her. She closed her eyes breathed in for four seconds, held for seven and let out for eight, and did this for a few moments until she could feel the heat subsiding. When she was sure that she was calm now, Lavender opened her eyes and decided to go find Remus, to warn him about a potential danger that might make his way. She just hopes that her threat was taken seriously. Because if not, then there will be more trouble in the future for both.
Lavender was able to find Remus in the library, reading a book in the back. Making her way over to him, she took a seat beside him, observing what he was reading a potion book. But he seemed to be confused on what was being addressed.
"How's it going" Lavender asked?
"None of this makes any sense" stated Remus.
"Do you need any help?"
"No, I think I'm going to take a break for now. Been at this for two hours" Remus remarked. "How are you doing?"
"Could be better. Ran into Jake and his goons a bit ago which was so fun."
"What happened may I ask?"
"They tried to get me to do their homework, and then threatened me by saying that they will attack you. And I have basically told them to try and do something like that. They didn't seem to be pleased that I wouldn't do their assignment for them."
"What are you going to do?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, you told them no. So should I be worried?"
"You have nothing to be worried about. I'll make sure nothing happens to you or anyone. Because no one should get someone to do their work for them. And if they do try something, I may or may not have threatened to ruin their lives."
"You didn't have to do that, you know."
"I know. But I wasn't about to let them walk all over me and get away with doing something like that."
"Well, thanks." Remus closed the book and let out a sigh, knowing that he wasn't going to get anything done.
"No problem. Come on. Let us go do something, so that you are not stuck here all day."
Remus looked at her skeptical unsure of what she was getting at.
"I have found something out last night and I want to see if I could find it again."
"And?"
"And there could be more to find in this castle than what we already know."
"So, you want to go walking around this entire castle to either find what you found yesterday, or possible find more secretes that has not been discovered?"
"Yep." When she agreed with what he just said, Remus gave a look of uncertainty. "Look I can go by myself easily. I just thought that it would be something fun for both of use to do. Besides what else would you do?"
Knowing that she was right, Remus agreed to what she was saying, also curious about what secret this castle has. Deciding to put away their belongings before they went, since neither of them wanted to be carrying a bag full of books. And once they were done, the made their way to the top floor, seeing if there was anything that was interesting.
