Hey guys I'm so sorry this update is meg late. My new laptop got broken and my keyboard to my phone went out and I just now got a new one. Plus I've had a bit of writer's block on this chapter so I'm sorry it took so long.

Anyways guys I hope you enjoy it.

When Captain James and Liam arrived at the hospital they went straight to Krista's hospital room. As they came around the corner they saw Beau and Cordell pacing outside the room. Liam could tell something was bugging his big brother and Captain James could read beau like a book.

"hey guys" Liam greeted the two men.

"What was so important we had to rush down here?" Captain James asked.

"Krissy , wanted to talk to you. She thinks there is a chance she knows something." Cordell said, biting on the inside of his jaw.

"If she knows anything hy tell us now?" Captain James asked.

"Cordell and I figured that part out. We figured that Starson must have found out somehow exactly how Krisa knows Cordell." Beau explained.

"Krisa said that she knew why Starson tried to kill her and it's because she didn't get Tommy out of Austin and down to Houston on his timeline." Cordell added.

"That's when she said she needed to speak to you." Beau finished.

"Alright well let's see what she can tell us." Captain James said as the four men walked into Krisa's hospital room.

Krisa smiled at the four men when she noticed them walk in. They exchanged pleasantries as Cordell sat on the edge of her bed holding her hand. Taking a deep breath Krisa started telling them everything she knew.

"It all started a little over six months ago"

Flashback*

Krisa was in her cell as the elevator opened to the main floor of the main house. Hanging up she made her way inside to the living room.

"Hey babe, your home, how was brunch?" Matthew Starson asked, greeting her with a kiss on the cheek.

"Good your sister has so many ideas for the wedding." Krisa replied as she returned the kiss.

The two walked into the living room where Matthew led her to the couch. Sitting down Krisa noticed a strange look in Matthew's eyes.

"Krisa I have something to talk to you about."

"What's that babe?"

"I know you have a friend back home in Austin who happens to be a Texas Ranger."

"Who? What? no I don't Matthew what are talking about? I don't know anything about Texas Ranger."

Matthew chuckled as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a letter and newspaper clipping along with pictures from Cordell's badge day ceremony. Krisa looked at Matthew shocked.

"Where did you find that?" she asked

"In your hope chest at the very bottom. You really think you could hide this rom? FROM ME!" Matthew snapped as he threw the pictures and the letter at her.

"My dad sent them. He is an old friend from the school we grew up with but I haven't spoken to him in almost twenty years." Krisa explained putting everything on the table.

"What's his name"

"Why?"

"WHAT IS HIS NAME AND DO NOT LIE TO ME KRISA!"

"C…C…Cordell..Cordell.. W..w..w..Walker." Krisa studered out.

"Now was that so hard? Now I want you to listen to me. You care about this Cordell Walker don't you?"

Krisa only nodded her head in fear. She didn't know anything about how Matthrew found out about Cordell. ONly if he managed to find out about him it couldn't have been good.

"I know your dad owns a very large farm up in Austin. You are going to convince your daddy to leave Austin and move here to Houston with us. And you will convince him to do this in six weeks."

"And if I can't, my dad is a stubborn man Matthew." Krisa said not looking at him.

Matthrew grabbed her chin forcing her to look him dead in the eyes as he spoke.

"If you don't conves him by the time the six weeks are up. I will make sure both your dad and your Texas Ranger friend never see daylight again. Do you understand me?! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME!"

"Yes!Yes, I understand. Please let me go Matthew please. "

Letting go Matthew pushed her away and stormed off to his office. Leaving Krisa for the first time in her life afraid to cross him.

End of Flashback*

"Two days later I came back to Austin . That was the night Cordell ran into me at Side Step." Krisa said, finishing her story.

"DId he never give you any details as to why he wanted your dad's ranch?" Liam asked

"No, he never really told me why he wanted the ranch."

Cordell sat silent, his jaw clenched tight. His mind wheeling on how to get Starson to pay for what he'd done. The man crossed a line scaring Krisa, threatening both Tommy and himself.

"Why six weeks? Why not longer?" Beau asked.

"The wedding, I guess he thought that maybe dad would move to Houston by that point. Only as y'all know daddy isn't gonna do anything he doesn't want to do."

Captain James motioned for Cordell, Liam and Beaus to go with him outside for a moment. Promising Krisa they would be right back. Once out in the hallway Captain James spoke.

"Guys, we have a problem. IfMatthrew Starson did threaten Tommy and Walker before Krisa got here. Who's to say he hasn't had a tail watching her."

"No I'd have made him already. Starson isn't that smart." Cordell said jaw was still clenched tight.

"Cordell is right. It would be too easy to make a tail on her. Only problem is Starson isn't that dumb." Beau added.

Liam nodded in agreement before he spoke.

"I'll do more investing into Starson business Larry you pull more on Starson background. Something has never sat right with me about them. I've know Starson for years and him and his dad have alway been shady."

"I'll do that. Meanwhile Walker and Beau you two keep an eye on Krisa and everyone else. We have to make sure that Starson really doesn't have any tails or eyes watching." Captain James added.

"Like his leaving Krisa alone." Liam chuckled as did Beau. While Captain James just shook his head and tried not to laugh.

"I'll go out and watch the ranch. While the lover boy stays here and keeps an eye on Krisa." Beau chuckled.

"Cordi do me one favor." Liam asked

"What's that?"

"See if Krisa happens to remember anything else from before she came back. There might something even the smallest detail that can tell us why Starson suddenly got interested in Tommy's ranch."

"I'll see what I can do."

After the other men had left, Cordell went back to Krisa's room. When he walked in he noticed she'd fallen asleep reading . Taking his spot next to her bed he had one final thought cross his mind.

Starson will burn in for this.

The thought hadn't even been gone from his mind when a few moments later Krisa woke up to Cordell pacing the floor of her room. Jaw clenched tight, his normal green eyes were now a dark forest green like just before a bad storm came in. He was pissed and Krisa could tell it.

"Cowboy you keep pacing like that you'll wear a soul off your boots."

"No I won't, I'll just get out my back ups." he joked as he sat on the edge of her bed and took her hand. "I'm sorry" they both said suddenly.

"Why?" Krisa asked, confused.

"If I hadn't been so dumb all those years ago you wouldn't have left."

"No Cowboy listens. None of this is your fault. I was a dumb, jealous teen who shouldn't have acted the way I did."

Cordell sat down next to Krisa on the bed. Taking her hand he gave it a squeeze. Krisa smiled leaning over giving Cordell a kiss on the cheek. Cordell smiled, tuning to look Krisa dead in the eyes. Reaching over he kisses Krisa on the lips.

Krisa smiled reaching up she ran a figure along Cordell's jaw. Closing his eyes loving the feeling. The two stayed that way for a while neither saying a word to the other. They sat in comfortable silence for a while. Until Cordell spoke.

"Krissy?"

"Yeah?

"Can I ask you something?"

"Anything Cordell you know that."

"Why would Matthew Starson try to kill you?" Even if you never got your dad out of town?"

Krisa shrugged. She honestly didn't know why but after a little while Krista answered.

"Maybe because he is the son of a itch who knew about you. Honestly Cowboy. I still don't know how he figured out I knew you."

"Didn't you say something about newspaper clipping and a letter?"

"My dad had sent me them when you made Ranger along with a note. It'd hidden them in the bottom of my hope chest in my jewelry box."

Cordell nodded then it dawned on him.

"It was fault"

"What?"

"The invitation I sent you to mine and Emily's wedding . That had to be how he figured it out."

"My dad sent the invite for you."

"I know honestly I didn't know if you would come or not. So when we sent Tommy an invite I added one in for you."

"Let me guess Abby's idea?"

Cordell just smiled. "Yeah"

Krisa just smiled and squeezed his hand tight.

"I'm not gonna lie, when I got invited my heart broke a little more. I hadn't yet met Matthew. So when I got the invite with the newspaper clippings I put them in my jewelry box momma had given me and stuck it in the bottom of my hope chest. I didn't even think about it again until the day Matthrew found it."

"How long after you got the invite did you meet him?"

"Six months after you two get married."

"Wow"

"Yeah"

"So how long had you two been engaged when he found the invite and the news clippings?"

Krisa thought back for a moment and paused. It couldn't have been that long after when she'd moved into the penthouse with him in downtown Houston.

"I'm not sure exactly honestly maybe six months or more"

"Up until that time did he know anything about me?"

"No, I never spoke about you. I talked about my dad every once in a while. But I never spoke about you to anyone. It was too hard."

Cordell nodded but then something clicked and he pulled out his cell phone and dialed Beau's number.

"Hey, I need you to look into something. Krisa said that Starson knew nothing about me until six months after they got engaged."

Krisa listened as Cordell and Beau talked about and forth about Matthew. Finally when Cordell hung up he turned to face her.

"We now know how Starson found out about me."

"How?"

"He was tracking you the whole time."
