...
Yagi kept his sight fixed on Tatsumaki, reeling with shock at the wave of familiarity when he heard her voice soften, the hostility that she exhibited away turning into an expression of fondness.
..
Not yet.
He twirled his standing still hair around, as he opened his mouth, "Eh, what's gotten into you?"
"I asked you a question." Tatsumaki raised her brow, "How have you been-"
"You're talking as if you're seeing an old contact or something." Yagi said, indifferent, "I know you got a lot of personal baggage to sort out, but deluding yourself like this isn't the way."
"Really, Toshinori?"
"First name basis now?"
"Yes. Because I know you, and YOU know me!" Tatsumaki snapped, her eyes twitching, her arms begrudgingly raised, "WE know each other!"
"From another lifetime, maybe. You did say we're going to be good friends if we stayed in touch." Not that they did, anyway.
"Now that's out of the way, I'm gonna have to ask you to step down and stop yourself from whatever it is you're doing." Yagi lightly scolded.
She widened her eyes. Could it be...
Tatsumaki sighed, "You don't remember?"
"I'm not in liberty to say," Yagi said, "But even if I did, so what?"
"S- so what? We're.." Tatsumaki's knees began to stagger...
Why is he doing this?
What the fuck is the deal with him?
"Look, as I've said before, we can settle this in a secluded area. Whatever problems you might have, I have a thing or two with solving other people's problems with mere words alone." Yagi shrugged, "Happens a lot. I don't know why. I guess it's natural."
"...fine." Tatsumaki's aura dissipated, her shoulders hung low, "We can set up a place and a date, and we're gonna have a looooong talk-"
Yagi stopped her short as he lifted his hand up, "Actually, I already have a place in mind."
T- that fast?!
"And where is this place, exactly?"
...
Tatsumaki sat at the wooden floor, facing Yagi on the opposite, with each cup placed on each edges where they were seated. They were on a small gazebo, stationed in front of a beach, blessed with the sight of the endless ocean laid out in front of it.
Tatsumaki raised her brow, "Is this where you usually hang out in or something?"
"Nah. I rented this a while ago, right after that whole fiasco with the Monster Association." Yagi replied as he took a sip.
"You were there."
"It appears so."
"And you didn't even think of checking on me, or, you know, try to jog all that memory up stashed inside my head?" Tatsumaki said in a somber tone.
Yagi sighed, "Let's not bring..our supposed personal attachments into the table, alright? Let's talk about you instead, how you've been acting, how you've been making everything a pain in the neck, both for me and the higher-ups alike. What's the big idea, Miss Tornado?"
Tatsumaki concealed the turmoil inside her, taking a deep breath as she leaned forward, "Why do you want to know, if you, supposedly, know nothing about me?"
"Call it a stranger's courtesy," Yagi replied, "I'm trying to help both sides of the board, be it me, the other heroes, or the orchestrators behind the hero industry. But mostly, I'm concerned about you."
Tatsumaki's lips curled, "And why is that? Concerning yourself over a stranger like me above everyone else seems a bit questionable, don't you think?"
"Questionable?" Yagi raised his brow, "If anything, I'd say my concern is rational and neatly placed, considering that you were the one who wrecked Yokohama, after all."
"Ugh, that again."
"And your lack of concern regarding the matter is a bit jarring, so to say." Yagi said again.
"My lack of concern? This shit, has been weighing on my mind ever since-"
"Then talk to me." Yagi interrupted, "Get it off your chest, whatever it is troubling you."
Tatsumaki's lips pursed as she yelled, "Fuck off, dude! Where are you even going with this?! We're just running in circles! This conversation feels pointless, I should just destroy this whole get-up of yours and be done with it!"
".. I'm sorry if I seem demeaning to you, but I assure you, I only wish to look out for the both of our's best interest." Yagi said, "Laid it all out to me, I won't judge."
"Fine, fuck!" Tatsumaki's hands slammed into the table, "It's the visions! it's been haunting me for years, altering my personality, fucking up my mental state, it's like having two personalities overlapping and merging into each other, forming a mishmash of an entity that's...I don't even know if it's me! I screwed a lot of things right from then, irked a lot of people, even inadvertently pushed my sister away! I keep feeling angry, sad, and I don't even know what made me feel like that! It's like my mind's being hijacked by some...I don't even know what it is!"
As she finished, she settled on her seat once again, "I was clueless, alright? That's why I'm a bit tempramental. That's what you wanted to hear?! There you have it."
"It's just.." Tatsumaki rubbed her temple, "You were a huge part of my identity, you know? And to take all that away, it's... it's unsettling."
Yagi was static, his form not moving even a single inch.
Tatsumaki sighed, "But I guess it's too late now to rekindle what we had, is it? See, you don't even know what to say."
"Tornado-"
"Don't 'Tornado' me." Tatsumaki interjected, "J- just don't call me anything at all, Toshi."
"Right." Yagi's sight fell into the ground. Dejected as he was, he should keep his cool in this. He was..the counselor, after all.
Or was he..?
He wasn't..best suited in this. Not on every cases as it seems. He didn't know how to ease a pain that he himself inflicted.
...
Ah. I royally fucked up, didn't I? Yagi sighed as he took another sip..
He has to try, at the very least.
Yagi pinched his nose, "I get it. Visions can be hard, especially if it concerns things that you're clueless about. Say, did you have some sort of..mind eclipse or something? Like an Alzheimer's disease of the sort. I might have an ide-"
"Tosh-...Yagi, I'm getting weary of this whole interviewing bullshit you've been doing for the past couple of minutes." Tatsumaki slammed the table, "Cut to the chase."
"Oh well, I just wanna say.." Yagi rubbed his forehead,
Umm..
"That.."
What the fuck am I supposed to say now?
"You should..."
Earlier, I thought she'd been experiencing some meager issue that led to her shortcomings, but this.. it's a lot worse than I expected.
...
"Should..."
Shit, shit, shit, brain, think of something to say! Something groundbreaking! Inspirational!
...
He didn't know what to say.
Silence submerged them both, before Tatsumaki decided to lay off the quiet outlook, "If you don't know what to say, just say it. You were expecting something less severe than what I've laid out in front of you, did you?"
"In a way..." Yagi exhaled as his muscles contracted, "Yeah."
"Then I rest my case." Tatsumaki stood up in an abrupt fashion, "Unless you want to explain where the fuck have you been for the past thirty years, don't contact me."
...
As Tatsumaki walked away, she could hear a faint, "I'm sorry" from her rear side.
She tilted her head backwards, only to see Yagi standing In front of the gazebo, his eyes sunken, penumbra covering half of his face.
"Pardon?"
"You shouldn't go out there alone, you know." Yagi remarked.
"Funny you should say, considering that you did leave me alone for three decades." Tatsumaki said.
Yagi's expression was unrecognisable, "It was over a selfish notion."
Tatsumaki's line of thoughts halted.
"A selfish..?"
"So much happened that day," Yagi said, "Everything felt like it was overlapping on my head, and I decided, 'fuck-it-all', and isolated myself from everyone, including you."
Tatsumaki's expression shifted into a melancholic one, as she walked to approach Yagi, "And what made you think, that I would wish you to stay isolated like that? Living like a forlorn wanderer for years."
"I know you wouldn't." Yagi said, "That's why I used your condition to my advantage, and I was...very, very wrong for that."
"I see." Tatsumaki shook her head, "I can't say everything's fine. What you did was definitely selfish, but I can't blame you either."
"Yeah." Yagi slightly hung his shoulders low.
Tatsumaki then asked, "What made you come out of your hiding? Why did you confront me?"
Yagi replied, "New experiences tend to give you new insights."
Both of them stayed still, looking into each other's gaze as the sun began to gradually rose from the horizon, emerging from the edge of the sea.
Tatsumaki looked to the side, "Looks like I've been out longer than I intended."
"Yeah. Me too."
"I don't know if I should see you again." Tatsumaki said, "I don't know if I can handle seeing you. Even now, I'm very tempted to plunge you into the bottom of the ocean and suffocate you there."
"Honestly, can't blame you." Yagi admitted, "You should go home now, and don't go on rampaging again behind my back. Casualties are a bitch to deal with, especially on the hero's side."
Tatsumaki chuckled, "As you wish."
As they began to go on their separate ways, suddenly, Yagi felt an odd vibration reeling through the ground. It was suspicious, so to say. An earthquake this time around without any firsthand warning?
No. It had to be something else.
As he slowly shifted his sight to his behind, he was greeted with an emerald pair of eyes staring right back at him.
"Tats-?"
Before he had any chance to react, a fist was already headed straight towards him, and as it made contact, Yagi was sent barreling across the beach, into the city ahead.
'Tatsumaki''s eyes lit up, her grin never leaving her lips, her aura intensifying as she stepped forward.
..
Yagi recovered in the air, confused to the sudden hostility from the esper.
What has gotten into her, now?
Another one of her shenanigans?
I told her to stop going on a rampage and she's doing this again. I get it, it's my bad, but this is just too much..!
As he landed on the solid floor, he could see the soaring form of the esper above a skyscraper. Yagi's foot bent downwards, before jumping into her direction as he yelled, "Oy, what is it this time?! I told you to stop!"
Tatsumaki's head tilted towards him, and she lifted her hand to stop him, but even then, that wasn't enough.
Yagi gripped her in the collar, before jumping straight into the general direction of the beach they were in earlier.
As he landed, he roughly estimated the strength needed to knock her out for a bit, and send her to the nearest infirmary to get her treated.
Fuck.
The shit that he put up with.
But then, he noticed something right ahead. He looked into Tatsumaki's eyes, and saw something foreign in it.
It wasn't her.
He could tell.
"Oh my," Yagi said, "Should've seen it coming from a mile. Something else is responsible for those visions."
Yagi was pushed away suddenly, albeit it was a minuscule force. Sliding across the sand particles, Yagi used his stance to prevent himself from being pushed even further, "This is a bit of a stretch, don't you think? Taking advantage of someone who lost their memories for your own gain? Whoever you are," Yagi pointed at Tatsumaki, "I can tell that you're not friendly."
"Ah, what an unsightly body. I will adjust myself to it." Tatsumaki said in a voice that differs from her own.
Yagi's brow dropped, "Looks like I stand corrected."
"Your impulse is as proficient as it suggests, as always, All Might."
"You know me?"
"You were one of the heroes who raided my hideout, after all. How could I not know?"
"Ah, the main culprit." Yagi pointed at her, "I've been itching to kick your ass for causing me so much trouble that day. Say, how'd you like a trip across the ocean?"
"As much as I'd like for us to cross paths and fight once again, unfortunately, I have other pressing matters to attend to." Tatsumaki's body were enveloped in a strange energy signature.
Yagi raised his brow, "Wait, hold on, did you say, 'once again'?"
But before he could hear the answer, Tatsumaki was already gone from his sight.
"Hey, asshole, wait!"
Yagi tried to prevent it, but he was too distracted by the aforementioned statement. Once again? Did they ever meet prior to this encounter? If so, where, and when?
No..
He had to find out, and save Tatsumaki.
Whoever it is,
They sound like bad news.
