Author's Note: Hey everyone this is the Green Gallant coming to you from my new profile! Due to some problems I had with my old account I was forced to start a new one. This is my first new fic on my new account.
I've been working off and on, on this story for a while and been trying to think of a way to do a new Titans reboot with an adult team. This story is inspired by several different plot points in the comics. With the premise based on the newest Titans book which sees the team elevated to being the world's premiere super team in the League's absence. I've worked long and hard on this and hope everyone likes it.
Titans: The Bastille
Several years after the original team disbanded the New Teen Titans have reorganized into an international team of heroes on par with the Justice League. Now called The Titans, the new team has greatly expanded its roster into an international peacekeeping outfit. Now in their mid-20s the team has grown by leaps and bounds, as have the villains they once fought. No longer contained to a single city, the Titans now partnering with the Justice League have been given access to their own satellite headquarters and operates independently of the League's auspices. Along with a new state of the art Titans Tower with the League's teleportation systems since the team relocated from Jump City to San Francisco Harbor. The new 100ft tower that sits on the opposite end of the bay is a technological improvement in every sense compared to the original Titans Tower, which was demolished after the original team's disbandment. And has access to the League's systems as well as the latest in Wayne Tech equipment and Zeta Beam teleporter to the team's unnamed satellite headquarters for international missions. In exchange the Titans serve as a training program for new heroes and metahumans.
The new team comprised much of the original teammates with some new additions. Dick Grayson the hero formerly known as Robin has since grown up and changed his codename to Nightwing while the rest of his teammates kept their own. While others that served as sidekicks to their mentors took a page from Nightwing and felt the need to grow into new identities.
And were joined by the likes of Roy Harper, the Titan formerly known as Speedy, now calling himself Arsenal. An expert marksman that was once the sidekick of Green Arrow and has since gained a mastery of most handheld weapons. Arsenal's new uniform consisted of a red and black sleeveless uniform with a large red arrow symbol that ran down the front of his uniform with a quiver and twin pistols in his belt with black fingerless gloves and a domino mask. Tempest the hero formerly known as Aqualad and now called Tempest wore a modified version of his original black and blue uniform minus the sleeves with white tidal pattern along the upper third of his uniform with a black abstract tattoo on his right shoulder. Donna Troy the hero formerly known as Wonder Girl and now calling herself Troia was Wonder Woman's original sidekick. A human girl that was raised on Thymescira by the Amazons and exposed to their Purple Ray emitter granting her powers on par with her mentor. Troia wore a black sleeveless bodysuit with plunging neckline showing her cleavage that was covered in sparkles along with a pair of silver indestructible bracelets. A symbol of her Amazon heritage along with a silver belt and boots with a matching lasso on her left hip.
Wally West the original Kid Flash that has now graduated and taken over his uncle's mantle as The Flash. A lighthearted speedster, Wally is a long time member and friend of the Titans that took over the Scarlet Speedster's identity following his Uncle Barry's sacrifice and was later admitted into the Justice League after the Titans originally disbanded. Since then his uncle has returned to life allowing him to share the mantle and prompting Wally to adopt a new suit to differentiate him from Barry. The new costume is one that pays tribute to his past as Kid Flash and his current one as the Fastest Man Alive. The new suit is a black and red ensemble with an open cowl showing his bright red hair, with a silver lighting bolt logo and matching bolts covering his ears. And matching silver lightning bolts on the cuffs of his gloves and belt. The top half of his costume was a deeper red while the legs are black with silver boots and the stylized bolt/wingtips on the outside edge of his boots.
While newer recruits included the likes of Superboy, the Kryptonian hybrid clone of Superman and Lex Luthor., clad in a black t-shirt and jeans with the red S-Shield on his chest. Armored hero Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes. A Mexican American teen that bonded with an alien scarab he found in the desert. The scarab was actually an alien war machine that transforms into a suit of armor capable of producing any weapon the user can think of. Aqualad II, Kaldur'am a black Human/Atlantian hybrid sidekick to Aquaman and wore an orange sleeveless top with green pants and logo belt buckle. Along with several girls including Speedy II/Mia Dearden another sidekick to Green Arrow who took over the mantle from Roy Harper several years after he retired it. And wore a red bodysuit with a yellow cape, red hood, domino mask and a gold arrow logo on her chest and black quiver on her back. Artemis a fellow archer and sidekick to Green Arrow that was daughter to a villainous couple known as the Sportsmaster and the original Huntress and wore a mostly green and yellow ensemble. Wonder Girl II/Cassie Sandsmark, sidekick to Wonder Woman and successor to Donna Troy who had received her Amazon powers in a way similar to Donna. Molecule/Adam Westbrook size changing hero that can change his molecular density when he shrinks and grows to giant size. Sidekick to The Atom. Molecule wore a green and blue short sleeved uniform with a matching ski mask and exposed blonde hair.
The team was then summoned by Superman to their new satellite headquarters which was officially known as The USS Oversight and was once owned by the government's Metahuman task force known as A.R.G.U.S. And was headed by former Suicide Squad leader Amanda Waller.
The organization's original purpose was to hunt down and contain new metahuman threats most of which included teenagers who had recently received their powers which led to the Titans eventually reformation. And found themselves having to defend and ultimately free these kids from ARGUS' metahuman prison and led to a confrontation between Waller's Suicide Squad and the combined might of the League and the New Teen Titans, eventually a bargain was made with Waller and the prisoners were released with the teens given pardons since most of them were largely innocent and ARGUS was reformatted into its current form to foster a relationship between the government and the superhero community at large. While Waller served a year in federal prison and given a reduced capacity at ARGUS.
Stepping into the Zeta Beam chamber the team was transported to their new space station base in low orbit. The team materialized on board the Oversight as the computers announced their arrival and joined the rest of their expanded roster with Superman and the rest of the Justice League waiting for them. The new team included at least 20 new recruits the majority of which have already worked with them in the past.
"Thank you for making it up here on such short notice Titans. And I have to say its nice to see everyone here. I see a lot of bright young faces, some of you I recognize and others I haven't had the chance to meet." the Man of Steel said introducing the team.
"As you know the Titans organization has grown and taken on many new responsibilities over the last few years. Many of which now involve a global mandate to safeguard the planet from evil forces wherever they may strike. In conjunction with the Justice League and based on agreements set forth by your leader Nightwing, the Titans operate independent of the League and have its own jurisdiction and the authority to take on anything they deem a threat. At the same time you have access to all our resources included the Watchtower itself and can call for backup anytime you need us. And will have members on standby should things escalate to the point that requires League intervention." He said.
"Your new base also includes an arsenal of weapons and research technology. And has its own battery of defensive capabilities and a fleet of jump jets that will take you anywhere in the world along with our own Zeta Beam transport that links the Oversight to Titans Tower and the Watchtower. Should any of those defenses fail, we do unfortunately have one last line of defense. The Neo Dylithium Quantum Cannon. A subatomic nullification beam that can and will wipe out anything in its path and is located at the very bottom of this space station. And the same one onboard the Watchtower that should only be used as a last resort." Superman told them leaving several of the Titans stunned.
"A Quantum Cannon? So your telling us that we have a planet buster beneath our feet?" Cyborg said incredulous.
"I'm afraid so. It wasn't my idea though." Superman told him.
"That's the same weapon Cadmus hijacked when Waller was in charge wasn't it?" Starfire added.
"That's correct." the Man of Steel said.
"So then why do you feel the need to give us one?" asked Raven.
"Batman was afraid you'd face an opponent that would overwhelm your defenses and destroy everyone on board." he told them.
"As I said I wasn't fond of the idea, but it makes sense and the last thing we wanted was to lose the ones we care about. The cannon is locked into its lowest setting and permanently locked out of the planet destroyer. Batman is the only one that has access to that, and the most it'll do is a city block. Anything higher than that would be catastrophic. You have to know that I vouch for this team, and must give me your word that you will never use this unless it is absolutely necessary." he told them.
"You have our word." Nightwing said as he and the others looked on.
"Good now that's out of the way. Why dont you introduce me to some of your new teammates." the Man of Tomorrow added.
"Of course, you already know the original team." Nightwing told him.
"These are Starfire, Beast Boy, Cyborg and Raven. And Terra who was our sixth Titan for a time." he said introducing them.
"Koriand'r of Tamaran its good to see you again Clark." Star said extending her hand.
"What up Supes?" Beast Boy said fist bumping him as Cyborg did the same
"It's been a while" added Cyborg.
"Pleasure." Raven said
While Terra was a little more anxious to meet him.
"Hi. Its nice to finally meet you." Terra said in a soft voice.
"Pleasure's all mine." Superman told them
"This is nice and all but if you don't mind I think we can speed this up a bit." Flash told them before dashing over to the computer to introduce the rest of the team.
"And of course you know Wally " Dick said
"I'm familiar with him." smirked Clark as Wally typed in commands only for the alarm to sound instead. As red lights bathed the room putting the team on high alert.
"Wasn't me." Flash said as the emergency came on screen.
"What is it?" Superman asked.
"Someone is targeting a business executive in New York." Martian Manhunter said from the Watchtower monitor.
"Who is it?" he asked.
"Felicity Smoak, CEO of Smoak Dynamic Enterprises." he answered.
"Felicity?" Green Arrow said.
"You know her?" asked Nightwing.
"She's uh... an old associate of mine." he answered.
"She's his ex." Black Canary added to his consternation.
"And I think I know who's targeting her. Deathstroke" added Nightwing.
"Correct." Manhunter told them.
"Then time's of the essence." Superman told the team.
"If you don't mind I'll tag along too. Me and him have a history together." Green Arrow said in a firm voice."
"I'm coming too. Someone has to keep you safe as well." she added
"I wouldn't have it any other way." the archer smiled.
"The more the merrier." added Dick as they ran for the teleporter.
"Time for a family reunion." Arsenal said as they beamed towards Earth.
A short time later a young woman with a long blonde ponytail and glasses dressed in a black and blue blazer and skirt was running through the back alleys from Deathstroke who was slowly following her. The woman in question tried in vain to knock over various debris to stymie the pursuit. But only quickened his pace as he threw off the boards, crates and pallets and marched towards her. As Felicity pulled out a handgun she had hidden and opened fire with bullets ricocheting off the walls near his head and off his suit as he rushed her and twisted her wrist and screamed as the gun fired off one last shot.
"Ugh No! Why are you doing this?" she yelled as she struggled against him and tried kicking him to no avail. And even tried punching his helmet after wrenching the gun from her hand.
"Sorry dear, but you know how cutthroat the corporate world can be." he answered cryptically.
"It's really nothing personal." he said as he readied to finish the task.
"Yeah, whatever, just tell me one thing before you kill me! You sent you? Was it Simon Stagg? Was it Luthor? Who did I piss off to deserve this?" she asked.
The villain chuckled.
"You've always been a bright young woman Ms. Smoak. But this time you were too smart for your own good. As a professional courtesy I make it a point not to reveal my contractor. But in your case I'll make an exception. You were right thought, it was Stagg. Since you uncovered his embezzlement and trying to frame others for Rex Mason's death but then found out he'd been keeping Mr. Mason under his headquarters and had transformed him into Metamorpho. I'm sure you've figured out the rest. It's a shame it had to be this way." he said.
An arrow shot out of the darkness enveloping them in a smoke screen as a voice rang out.
"Anyone ever tell you, you talk too much? Green Arrow said as a line shot out wrapped around Slade's chest and launching him back as dick sprang forward and punched him as hard as he could in the face.
"Ollie..." Felicity said under her breath as Canary jumped in-front of her.
"Hey its been a while." she said guarding her.
"Diana! You guys couldn't cut it any closer could you!" Felicity hissed.
"We got here as soon as we could. Glad to see you too by the way." Diana told her.
"I didn't realize being bait meant I had to fight him!" the CEO complained.
"I'll bring it up at the next meeting." she chided.
"Aww you guys started bantering with me?" Green Arrow asked while fighting Deathstroke.
The Battling Bowman used his signature weapon to block the assassin's sword, while battling the rest of the Titans before dodging Nightwing's billy club before kicking him in the stomach.
"What's the matter Slade? I thought this type of thing was beneath you?" the archer quipped.
"I was afraid the job would be too easy. But when I heard Ms. Smoak was involved I knew the rest of you wouldn't be far behind." the assassin snarked.
"Don't flatter yourself." the Emerald Archer told him.
"And you obviously had no problem blabbing about your contract." added Nightwing.
"To be honest I don't care who pays for it, so long as I am paid. And Stagg is a loathsome individual to begin with. So it won't bother me either if he goes to prison." he admitted while fending off several Starbolts and a claw attack from Beast Boy and finally being encased in Raven's darkness and flung into a nearby wall.
While this was happening Canary pinged the Watchtower while she was guarding Felicity.
"J'onn did you get all that?" she said touching her comlink.
"I heard. Watchtower to all points, Metamorpho is being held prisoner in the depths of Stagg Tower. I want anyone that's available to infiltrate their defenses." Martian Manhunter said
"Roger that J'onn, me and Beetle are inbound!" a voice replied revealed to be Booster Gold and Blue Beetle.
An explosion ripped open the empty lobby as they made their entrance. Revealing a hero in a blue and gold bodysuit with high collar, blonde hair and a gold colored visor. and was joined by an older man in a two tone blue jumpsuit with a beetle symbol on his chest with light colored trunks, gloves and boots with a cowl and yellow bug eyes goggles.
"This should be fun!" Booster said cracking his knuckles.
The pair blasted their way through the building and were met by armored guards that fired back at them as Booster punched the first one that reached him. While Blue Beetle pulled out a modified ray gun zapping the others.
Back in the alleyway Deathstroke continued to battle the Titans and Green Arrow, firing several shots from his blaster at Felicity and everyone else. Canary pulled her down as Starfire blasted him and Nightwing threw some explosion pods at him. Followed by Green Arrow lobbing some explosive arrows at him.
Slade used a force field generator on his gauntlet to shield himself from the combined blasts.
"I've had quite enough of you heroes!" he said before jamming the tip of his staff into the ground setting off explosions beneath their feet and escaped.
Meanwhile Booster and Beetle made their way through the base and finally reaching the sub basement lab where Metamorpho was being held in stasis.
And were joined by fellow League members Fire and Ice. The only one standing between them was Simon Stagg on a catwalk overhead and his brutish bodyguard Java.
"Simon Stagg, your under arrest for kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder." Booster Gold told him.
"As well as money laundering!" added Beetle.
"Oh yeah? And how are you going to prove it?" the villain asked.
"Bro seriously? We're in your secret lair and the guy you kidnapped is right in front of us." Booster said.
"And we have you on video. You can't weasel your way out of this one." Beetle told him.
Before he could make the next move Fire blasted the platform he was on, while Booster blasted his goon Java taking them out in short order while the industrialist landed on a mountain of snow provided by Ice.
Minutes later the rest of the rescue team where underground as they retrieved Metamorpho's pod and brought him back to the League Watchtower for observation. While this was happening the rest of the team was introduced to Booster and his team.
"Great job today guys. I'm Booster Gold, leader of Justice League International and these are my teammates. I'm sure Batman's told you all about us!" he said.
"Actually he hasn't." Nightwing told him as Booster deflated a bit.
"Oh, well no surprise there. As you can tell we're a separate outfit from the main team and look after things in Europe, but come over here as needed. Tell you what since you guys are in the neighborhood. Why don't you come check out our place in Paris? It's like nothing you've ever seen." he told them and the rest kinda nodded in agreement.
"Alright, Beetle?" he said turning to his teammate as the two teams were teleported out.
Justice League International Embassy
Paris, France
Moments later the team arrived at the spacious JLI Embassy in Paris which acted as not only the team's headquarters but was also a full time resort for superheroes that was open to the public. Teleporting in the first thing the team was greeted with was a pool and pavilion full of bikini clad guests.
"Welcome to JLI headquarters, we operate separate from the main team like you guys so we do things a little differently here in France. For one our headquarters serve as a League embassy with a global mandate much like the OG League itself. We have members from the world over, and have opened our doors to visitors as well like the Hall of Justice but more as a resort." Booster told them.
"Yeah the League founders hated the idea, but we convinced them it would help with our overall image and serve as a refuge for anyone that needs it." Blue Beetle told them.
"The resort is open year around to visitors and aspiring superheroes. And even encourage other heroes to vacation here as well. Its been a pretty lucrative business venture for us." Booster added.
"Which they also hate!" added Beetle.
"They never said we couldn't." Booster told him.
"Not till after they found out anyway." Beetle added.
"The point is despite our sometimes less than stellar reputation, we're serious about our job. And we're committed to defending Europe from evil." Booster Gold told them.
"You guys are going to love being A-Listers!" Blue Beetle told the group.
"Ladies and gentlemen... Welcome to the Big Leagues." Booster said.
Author's Note: Alright so what did you think of that? Thats a bit longer than I expected but i wanted to get some epic world building off in the first chapter to show the scale and type of setting the new story is based in. And is meant to blend the Post-Crisis, New 52 and Rebirth era plotlines from the comics.
The JLI is a reinterpretation with a little of the 80s/90s comics and the New 52 versions. while the Titans space station is based on an early 90s run in the comics. And to show thats its more than just these two teams. This was originally going to be a songfic to one of my favorites Pompeii by Bastille hence the name.
