Chapter One: Not Always The Same

"Yeah mom I'll be home here in a while. I'll see you later." Alexis says as she hangs up her phone while walking down the street.

"Well, well. Look who it is." A voice says revealing to be a blonde haired boy.

"Great. What do you want Chad?" Alexis asks annoyedly.

"Looks like the little freak has got some fight in her this evening." Chad says as he goes up to Alexis.

"Where's your little pose at?" Alexis asks.

"Football game tonight. Not that it's any of your business." Chad says.

"Pfft. Just leave me alone." Alexis says as she tries to walk off only for Chad to grab her.

"Oh not happening sweetie. You got me in trouble earlier today." Chad says annoyedly.

"What did I do exactly?" Alexis asks as she glares at Chad.

"You told on me when I skipped class. That was my third strike and now I'm suspended for a week." Chad says angrily.

"That was your own fault not mine. The teacher asked if I saw you and I told him the truth. Not my fault you decided to skip." Alexis says as she scoffs.

"Well it is your fault that you're gonna regret that decision because now I'm going to get payback." Chad says.

"Let me go!" Alexis says as she tries to pull her wrist away from Chad with no luck.

"Let her go." A voice says.

"Who said that?" Chad asks as he and Alexis look around.

"I did." The voice says revealing to be Morty with an eye patch.

"Morty Smith?" Alexis asks confusedly.

"Beat it Smith. This doesn't concern you. And what's with the eye patch? Playing pirate or something?" Chad asks as he chuckles.

"Maybe not. But I'm not gonna let you hurt this girl. As for my eye patch that is my business." Morty says.

"What does it matter to you? This little freak has no friends. So she's not your concern." Chad says.

"I said let her go." Morty says as he walks up to Chad.

"Or what?" Chad asks.

"Or you'll answer to me." Morty says as he glares before Chad scoffs and releases Alexis.

"Whatever. I don't feel like beating up two losses tonight. You got lucky this time Hathaway." Chad says as he leaves.

"You okay?" Morty asks as he looks at Alexis.

"Yeah. Thanks. Why did you help me Morty? You and Summer aren't my friends." Alexis says.

"You were in trouble. Nothing else. So what's your name? I didn't quite catch it at school." Morty says.

"Alexis. Alexis Hathaway. It's uh nice to finally talk to you Morty. But then again I always saw and heard you rushing off to go on space adventures with your grandpa Rick." Alexis says.

"Yeah. Rick is an asshole. He takes up a lot of my social time." Morty says.

"I can tell. Thanks again for saving me. Anyway I should head home." Alexis says.

"Want me to walk you home? That way you won't be harassed again." Morty says as Alexis looks at him and smiles softly.

"Oh uh sure Morty. Thanks." Alexis says.

"No problem. Lead the way." Morty says as he and Alexis walk off.

*Timeskip*

"Well this is me. Thanks again Morty. I had fun talking to you. Maybe we could chat again sometime?" Alexis asks as she and Morty stop outside of her house.

"Maybe. But you should know something before that though." Morty says as Alexis looks at him.

"What's that?" Alexis asks curiously.

"I'm not the Morty you know." Morty says as Alexis gives a confused look.

"What do you mean?" Alexis asks confusedly.

"I'm from another dimension." Morty says.

"What? Oh very funny. Come on stop playing." Alexis says as she chuckles slightly.

"I'm not joking. See?" Morty says as he pulls out a device and makes a yellow portal appear.

"What is that?" Alexis asks in alarm.

"My portal gun. It lets me travel wherever I want. Believe me now?" Morty asks as Alexis nods.

"Oh most definitely. So who are you and why are you here?" Alexis asks as she looks at Morty.

"Most call me Evil Morty. I'm not good like most Morty's. As for why I'm here I was gathering supplies to take back to my home when I ran into you." Morty says.

"So if you're evil then why did you help me?" Alexis asks curiously.

"Don't read too much into it. I may be evil but I'm not one to treat a girl like that. At least an innocent one anyway." Evil Morty says.

"Well thank you anyway." Alexis says as she smiles kindly.

"Don't get used to it. I'm not a hero. I just want to be left alone to my own world. I only come out of it for supplies." Evil Morty says.

"That must get lonely." Alexis says.

"Better than be a slave to a Rick. Anyway see ya." Evil Morty says as he walks toward the portal.

"Wait. Do you think we could maybe still chat sometime?" Alexis asks as Evil Morty stops and looks at her.

"You heard what I said about being evil right?" Evil Morty asks as he looks at Alexis suspiciously.

"Yeah. And? I'm not afraid." Alexis says kindly as she smiles.

"I can see that." Evil Morty says as he chuckles.

"So is that a yes then?" Alexis asks curiously.

"Perhaps. But for another time. Until then I guess." Evil Morty says.

"Until then." Alexis says as she smiles and watches Evil Morty leave through the portal.
