Chapter One – When It all Changes.
**Flashback**
She walked into the hotel suite finding him fixing his outfit.
"Jeans," he commented as she joined him. "I'm not sure the maître d will approve of that," he said.
"We need to talk Logan," she said.
"Okay," he said cautiously."
"Did you sleep with Madison over winter break?" she asked.
He opened his mouth and stood up.
She held up, "The next words out of your mouth better be no."
"We were broken up Veronica-"
"But Madison? You know how much I hate her."
"You asked if I ever was anyone while we were broken up, I told you that it didn't mean a thing."
"But Madison Logan! This girl made my life hell in high school. Sh-She drugged me, and I got raped."
"It didn't mean anything Veronica. What can I do? What can I do to make this better?"
"You can tell me that you didn't sleep with Madison. Cause I can't get this image out of my mind of Madison and you having sex. Can you tell me that she lied to me, Logan? Because I can't figure out how you would hurt me that bad."
"Veronica, I never meant to hurt you, - "he sighed and looked down.
She just shook her head fighting back tears and turned and walked out.
**End of Flashback**
She inhaled and looked around the white room. She hated doctor's offices. The smell was eerily clean, and the lights were bright. She was cold. There was a knock on the door, and she sat up. A young doctor walked in with a clipboard.
"Hi Veronica, I'm Dr. Macabe," he said sitting on the stool. "You're here for results from last week.
She nodded.
He smiled a bit, "Nervous?" he asked.
"Yeah, a little."
"You have nothing to worry about. We'll go over the results and options, okay?"
"Options?" she asked.
"I have good news," he said looking at her results. "You are pregnant. 5 weeks, so we will get you scheduled for an ultrasound-" he paused looking at the fear and shock on the teen's face.
"Do you have any questions?"
"I-I am pregnant," she said shocked.
He put down the clipboard and gave her a sympathetic look. "We can schedule you another appointment so you can bring the father," Dr. Macabe said.
"Um, no, that's not necessary," Veronica said. She was in complete shock. How could she be? They were always so careful. Weren't they? She just didn't hear anything else that Dr. Macabe was saying. All she kept thinking was how torn up her dad would be. How everything she worked for was going to crash and burn. How stupid and how unprepared she was, how was she going to do this? What about her dad? Her future? She didn't even notice that she had made it back to her car. She sat there, and the tears she didn't know she was holding came down from her eyes. She couldn't help but just sit there and cry. What else could she do?
…..
Logan parked his Range Rover in the parking lot. He reached for his notebook and got out of his car.
"Hey you," a girl said joining him.
He looked up seeing the blonde that he was seeing. They were keeping things casual for now, until he could tell another certain blonde that he was seeing one of her friends. "Hey Parker," he said lightly kissing her lips.
"So, we still on for dinner tonight?" she asked as they walked on the sidewalk towards the school.
"Yes. I got a reservation; I'll pick you up at 7."
"Okay great!" They walked in silence. "So, have you talked to Veronica?"
He cleared his throat, "Well, uh. Not yet."
"Logan, you need to talk to her."
"And I will. I just haven't found the time."
"She should be okay with it, right? I mean it's been a month since you two were together."
"Yeah. She'll be okay with-it Parker."
"Are you sure? I don't want anything to ruin my friendship with her. She's a good friend."
"I know. Which is why I must be the one to talk to her."
"Okay, well I'll see you at lunch," she said kissing him quickly and running off towards the building she had to go to.
Logan sighed and went to his class not knowing that there was news from that blonde he was dreading to talk to.
…
Veronica walked into the apartment. "Hey boy," she said petting Backup who had greeted her as she walked in.
"Hey," her dad said walking out of his room.
"Hi dad," she said putting her bag on the couch.
"I have to fly to Michigan, there's a bail jumper that we would get monnaaay to turn him in," Keith said kissing his daughter's cheek and headed out the door. "Dinner money is on the table," he said and left.
Veronica sighed, and looked at the senior pitbull who was sitting there with his head tilted and his tongue sticking out to the side. "Well, it's just you and me boy. Pizza? What do you think?" she asked.
He barked in acceptance, and she smiled, "I thought you'd like that," she said.
She headed to the kitchen to grab a bottle of water, and she opened it, and downed it. She was thirsty suddenly. She stood there spaced out. When Backup barked, she blinked. "Oh right pizza," she said walking to the counter, and grabbing her cellphone. "How do you feel about Philly cheesesteak? She asked.
Backup barked.
Veronica smiled, "I knew you'd see it my way," she said and started looking for a Cho's pizza number and called it.
….
Logan was in his hotel suite. He was playing with his cellphone in his hand, and spaced out he didn't notice Dick walking in.
"Yo bro," he said.
"Huh?" Logan asked looking up.
"I was asking if you wanted anything from the room service menu," he said.
"Uh, a burger and fries is cool," he said.
"Alright," he said and picked up the phone that was on the counter.
Logan sighed, and tried to think about the conversation he was somewhat dreading to have. They were friends before anything right? Ever since they were 12, they had somewhat of a mutual like, and for a while there in their junior year he hated her. But the loss of Lily and their need for answers did bring them together. But it was their relationship after Highschool that made them where they are today. They were epic after all, weren't they?
"Bro, what has been on your mind?" he asked sitting next to him.
"What do you mean?" Logan asked.
"I been talking to you for the past ten minutes and you haven't said a thing."
Logan rolled his eyes, "I don't need to know about the girl you had sex with last night Dick."
"Party pooper," he said. "Anyways the food will be here in 40 mins."
"Alright," he said as Dick turned on the tv.
"I don't even know why you were staring at the tv with it off."
Logan sighed and got up. "Let me know when the food is here," he said heading to his room.
"Okay," Dick responded as Logan shut the door.
….
Veronica was satisfied. She sat in the living room rubbing her belly. She stopped and looked down at her hand. She froze. She forgot, for a minute she forgot. '6 weeks' she thought. She was 6 weeks pregnant, and she slowly lifted her shirt. She saw tiny budge, it wasn't noticeable, but it was there. She put her shirt down and sighed. She looked at Backup. "How about we go for a walk boy?" she asked. He barked. She got up and grabbed his leash and put it on him. They headed out and got into the car. She needed to go to the beach. For some reason the water calmed her. She just needed to get to place where she could escape, even just for a moment.
When they got to the beach, she took Backup down to the water. The beach was dying down of people. They were packing up and heading out. She found a spot away from the people that were there and a place where Backup had plenty of room to run and play in the water. She took his leash off and took the mat out of her pack. She kept a bag with beach supplies in her car. She laid it out and sat on it. She watched Backup run around at the edge of the water.
She sighed; she had no idea what she was going to do. She was only 18. They were only 18, they weren't ready to be parents. Her lifestyle didn't allow for a baby at this point of her life. She was going to be applying for her detective license soon, and well, a baby bump wouldn't look good for her running chasing bail jumpers. She would also be letting her dad down. She would be a college student, single working mom before she was even legal to drink. She sighed, right now wouldn't be a good time to have a baby. It just wouldn't be.
Yet, her dad would be disappointed if she chose to not have this baby. He would look at her differently, and it would be uncomfortable. She didn't know how she screwed up this bad. She brought her legs up to her chest and hug it resting her chin on her arms. "What are you going to do Veronica?" she asked as she stared out at the ocean waves crashing on each other. She was going to have to tell him, and she knew it.
…
Logan paced in front of her door. He looked at his watch. It was 8 pm. Shouldn't she be home by now? He looked up seeing Backup run up to him, and he bent down petting him. "Hey boy," he said.
"Logan?" she asked.
He looked up and smiled. "Hey Veronica."
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
He licked his lips and stood up as she put her key in the keyhole. "Well, um, I wanted to talk to you."
She opened the door, and Backup ran in. "Want to come in?" she asked.
"Is your dad-"
She shook her head. "He's out of town catching a bail jumper," she said.
He nodded and walked into her apartment. She closed the door. "Sorry, I been here since 7 and you weren't here, so I waited," he rambled.
"It's fine. We're friends. You're welcome to come."
"Oh," he said.
"But it's late. Is there-"
"Uh yeah. Um, how do you feel about Parker?" he asked.
She looked at him confused, "She's cool. I mean, we are friends."
"I mean, me dating Parker."
Veronica paused and headed to the kitchen. "Do you want water?" she asked.
Logan shifted his weight, "Veronica, I-"
"I can't tell you who to date Logan," she said grabbing to water bottles, and handed him one.
"I know. I just want to tell you and make sure you're cool with it. Because Parker, well. She doesn't want to make it official until I talked to you."
"You don't need my blessing Logan," Veronica said.
"I know that. I just-"
Veronica sighed, "Why did you come here Logan?"
"I tried calling."
"Funny, my phone didn't ring."
"I tried calling," he repeated. "But I figured with our history, you deserve better than a text or a call."
Veronica raised an eyebrow, "So coming to my place late at night seemed like a perfect opportunity."
"Veronica, I give," he said raising his hands. "I didn't come here to argue with you."
"Then why did you come Logan?!"
"I-" he paused and looked down.
She nodded and sighed. She then decided this was a long enough visit, and she headed to the door, and opened it. "If this is all you came for, you can go."
"Veronica-"
"Leave Logan."
He sighed and headed towards the door, "I am sorry," he said and walked out. She shut the door and closed her eyes inhaling. "Me too Logan," she said. "Me too." She headed to her room and collapsed on the bed not bothering to change.
