I let out a long yawn as I lean further into the sit, looking around the room with disinterest. The interior is still showing the same kind of image like the last time I got here, an educational place for where the gifted. That is what this place is always be and always will, what a joke.
In front of me, a young man with a soul as old as it can be seated, he wears shaded glass spectacles and unzipped black suit follow by a black overcoat contrast with his white hair. He sips his black coffee after making them with this so-called coffee machine and offer me one as well in the process.
"Seriously Ozpin, did you just call me here to offer some hot coffee, cause just for your info I more kind of an iced coffee person." I stare at him, questioning him and the cup of coffee in front of me.
"I don't think it's wrong for us to have a casual talk once in a while." He smugly smile as he continue to sip on his coffee.
"Well next time you do that, offer something more than a coffee. Some food would be nice especially this kind of hour." I said while reaching for my coffee and sip it, its lack some sugar and feel really bitter. I take the small bag of sugar and pour all of it into the coffee. After some stirring, I take another sip and now its feel a lot better. "So, what is it?"
"Well, I just wandering how is it after you being a teacher here?" He said after a couple sip of himself. Seriously this guy is really loving this bitter coffee, I never see him without his mug. "How the student, how is it feel teaching, something like that?"
"I already being a teacher for a fucking year and you just ask me that now?"
"Mr. Yussuf, language please!" Glynda, the right-hand woman of Ozpin, and one of the professors here in Beacon, finally talk. She is middle-aged woman with very light-blonde hair tied back in a bun with a curl hanging down the right side of her face. She wears thin ovular glasses and a white long-sleeved. She has a stern and harsh atmosphere around her. I could only stay silent after hearing what she says, it's not like I'm a kid that will get angry easily anyway.
"Your skill in lying really go down the hill, old man!" I followed as I take another sip. "So, you better spit it out already! I want to visit that new restaurant across the street."
"I never though you are a culinary enthusiast, Mr. Yussuf." Glynda give her comment, catching me off guard as she usually always keeps her silent and never talk when she didn't need to.
"I always like experiencing new thing." I said while taking another gulp from the mug, I'm starting to grow fond of the coffee. "We already become a coworker for a whole year and you talk like you know nothing of me, Glynda."
"Well, you never around in the teacher room that we never talk." She snorted back at me for teasing her. I give her a small smile and look back at Ozpin after taking another sip. Realizing my gaze, he finally put back his mug and look at me seriously.
"What can I say, I am nervous after all." He said before coughing into his hand.
"What is it? Is it about Salem? I can assure you she won't attack you head on after what happen." I said raising my mug to Glynda for a second shot. "Just make sure you don't get reckless."
"I assure you; The Queen activity is in our knowledge." He said after ask Glynda for a second cup of coffee as well. "No, it is about a Ruby Rose, did you remember her?"
"Did you mean that brat daughter? Why? Did she get into trouble or something?" I tried to conceal worry in my voice, only to fail miserably. "I knew that brat is no good to be a father!"
"No, no, I assure you she is safe and alright." Ozpin said after we receive a new cup of coffee from Glynda and take a sip. "She actually will be rolling to Beacon this year."
"WHAT!? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME OZPIN!?" I shout at him, raising from my seat and almost spill my coffee. "ISN'T SHE LIKE ONLY 12 OR 13 YEARS OLD!?"
"She is actually 15 years old," Instead of Ozpin, Glynda was the one answering my question. Before I could give another of my opinion, she looks ats Ozpin and continue. "While I do not agree with how Mr. Yussuf pronounce it, I do agree with what he mean. She is too young, Ozpin. At least wait for another 2 years or so."
I nod in agreement with what Glynda said.
"I understand your concern, but she has the skill to be here and if it's about her safety, I believe there is no safer place than here where you're, Yussuf."
"Have you forgot, Ozpin? We instead tend to draw problem and danger."
"Indeed, but she being here will mean that we can protect her and at the same time hide her from The Queen." Ozpin sip her coffee and continue. "Qrow said that The Queen have start again to eliminate her enemy, and sooner or later, she will realize Summer Rose has a daughter."
I can't say anything. The thought that Salem would find Ruby is nightmare, but she being here is a problem in itself. I rather not have anything to do with her, even though I don't think I can help it. But I have promise myself, and she being around here in Beacon would help me fulfill that oath. I let a long heavy sight,
"Fine, but if only she passes my test."
"Of course, what do you have in mind?" Ozpin ask without even hide his excitement, this old fart! "I was thinking of using the emerald forest for the entrance examination."
"If I remember correctly, there is an elder nevermore, right?"
"Indeed, what about it?"
"In the examination, I will add 2 other elder nevermore and if they pass so be it." I said after emptying my cup and place it on the desk.
"I'm sorry Mr. Yussuf but isn't that too extreme?" Glynda object my proposal, obviously having a problem with it. "While they may be talented, but they have no experience what so ever to in a real fight against that kind of grimm."
"It's a deal then." Ozpin said while ignore Glynda completely. "I will sent few of my people to catch them."
"Ozpin! You can't be serious?" Glynda once again give her objection.
"Relax Glynda, if things went to the worst, we could just jump in and help them. It's not like an elder nevermore are a problem for you professional hunters. Especially you, Glynda, your semblance is most suitable to take down a nevermore." I said, trying to convince her, and it's not like I can't help as well.
"Huh," She let a heavy sigh. "Very well, then.."
A few days later, the entrance for new year of Beacon start. Several ships carrying students dock at the entrance of the school. As soon as one lands, bunch of students emerges and goes over to the nearest trash can, for reason everyone would understand but wouldn't want to know. Then, other students start filling the originally empty street. They are young and cheerful, fueled by determination and passion to become a professional hunter. Between those student, there is several kid who get my attention.
A fair-skinned young girl with neck-length black hair with red tips and a tall, fair-skinned young woman with bright golden hair that fades to pale gold at the tips with a cowlick sticking out at the top. The first girl eye color immediately give it away her identity, she is Ruby Rose, daughter of Summer Rose. That is mean the girl with her is Yang Xiao Long, her step sister from different mother. Even with her golden hair, she did quite resemble her mother, huh.
"Wow..." Both girl gasp as they see Beacon from close by.
"The view from Vale's got nothing on this!" Yang Xiao compare with her home, obviously in awe.
"Ohmygosh, sis! That kid's got a collapsible staff! And she's got a fire sword!" Ruby Rose exclaim, completely have different interest from her sister but just like her mother. She even tries to getting closer to the said weapon, only for Yang to pulls her sister by the hood back into reality. "Ow! Ooww!"
"Easy there, little sister. They're just weapons!"
"'Just weapons'? They're an extension of ourselves! They're a part of us! Oh, they're so cool!" Ruby said, obviously really offended, her big sister only could laugh seeing her like that. Sheplayfully pushing her sister's hood down over her little sister face.
"I understand, but come on Ruby, why don't you instead drooling for their weapon, go try and make some friends of your own?"
"But... why would I need friends if I have you?" Ruby ask, innocently. How old is she seriously? To have a way of though like that.
"Well..." Suddenly, a crowd of students went pass Ruby and Yang, separate them from each other. A mischief look could be seen from Yang Xiao Long lilac eye. "Actually, my friends are here. Gotta go catch up. 'Kay, see ya, bye!"
And just like that Yang disappear with the crowd, leaving behind her little sister. Seems surprised by what just happen, Ruby only could look around uncontrollably.
"Wait, where are you going!? Are we supposed to go to our dorms? Where are our dorms? Do we have dorms?" She frantically ask to her big sister who already nowhere to be found. "I don't know what I'm doing..."
Her body became limp, she falls backwards into a luggage cart, sending cases flying everywhere. The owner of the luggage only standing there, surprised by what just happen.
"What are you doing!?" Ask the owner. She is a pale-skinned young woman with pale blue eyes and long white hair that is tied into ponytail.
"Uh, sorry!" Ruby immediately stand up, realizing her mistakes. She frantically collecting the luggage that she went fly just a second before.
"Sorry!? Do you have any idea of the damage you could have caused?"
"Uuhhh..."
"Give me that!" Before Ruby could say anything, whitesnatches the luggage from Ruby and opens it to reveal its twinkling-sounding contents. What the fuck is that? "This is Dust - mined and purified from the Schnee quarry!"
"Uuuhhhh..."
"What are you, brain-dead?" White holding out a vial of red Dust and shutting the case up. "Dust! Fire, water, lightning, energy!"
"I... I know..." Either intentional or not, Dust pouring from white case and into Ruby face. She even starts coughing from the Dust.
"Are you even listening to me? Is any of this sinking in? What do you have to say fo-" Before White could finish her sentence, Ruby sneezes, erupting into a full-blown explosion of flame, snowflakes, and electricity right onto Weiss. The bottle she had been holding flies over the courtyard and at the feet of a fair-skinned young woman with wavy black hair and amber eyes, she wear a headband with a pair of black cat ears on top of it. She picks it up and over at the scene of the disaster.
"Unbelievable! This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about!" White once again shot complain. She is a princess type, huh. The type that can't understand when she is also at fault. She would be annoying to teach. Ruby apologies but before she could even say another word, White continue. "Ugh, you complete dolt! What are you even doing here? Aren't you a little young to be attending Beacon?"
"Well, I-I..."
"This isn't your ordinary combat school. It's not just sparring and practice, you know! We're here to fight monst-"
"I didn't know you are the kind of person who like to spy on new students, Yussuf." Someone said from behind me, from his voice he must be the old man. We are currently on top of the clock tower of Beacon. It was the highest building on Beacon and from here I could look all Beacon and its surrounding.
"I only curious, Ozpin." I said without even look at him. "And aren't you suppose to prepare for the entrance? Glynda would be angry if you just disappear."
"That is why exactly why I'm here, I want you to replace me for the entrance speech." I look at him, questioning what the fuck did I just heard. He only stand there, a mug of coffee on his right hand.
"Are you serious? Why?"
"Well, I think that it would be good to switch once in a while or they would be bored by my speech, isn't it?"
"Heh, you must me out of your mind, Ozpin." I said while look back at the girl. Seems like they already end they problematic encounter. Right now Ruby Rose is talking to a tall young man with fair skin, blond hair and dark-blue eyes. "Isn't it better if it was Glynda or even Peter? And just so you know, there is no way the new kids will be bored by your speech. Heck, they would be confused as fuck. I even feel that last year."
"Hmm, is that so. Since you are the one saying that, I will reconsider to give the speech." Ozpin said amused. "But still, we better go back to the Auditorium. It will starts soon."
"Alright, alright, right behind you old man." I jump down from the fence, following Ozpin who already go down the stair. I give once again to the view behind me only to notice the black-haired girl look at me from one of the corner of the street. Hmm, she notice, huh?
