Countless souls have been lured along the Grand Line in pursuit of the legendary One Piece! Monkey D. Luffy, a young rookie pirate, is in for a surprise when his sister sneaks into a apple barrel to avoid getting left behind.
Monkey D. Luffy looked back at his home town, guilt overcoming him as he thought back to Sora, his adoptive sister. The poor girl was probably confused and sad knowing he left without saying goodbye, was it too late to turn back? No, he didn't have paddles. Looking back ahead in his red vest with yellow buttons, blue jean shorts with fuzzy cuffs, feet sporting sandals and a yellow hat made of straw with a red band ribbon, Luffy let out a heavy sigh.
Low growling echoed in his stomach and he rubbed it. "Man, I'm hungry..." Luffy moaned before he looked to the barrel of apples he had brought with and smiled. A couple wouldn't hurt, right?
Opening the lid, Luffy wasn't sure he saw anything out of the ordinary at first, but when he blinked a bit to adjust to the sunlight, he saw his red-headed, 10 year old little sister with her shining green eyes, purple bracelet on the left wrist, white tank top with a painted eye and green straps, purple leggings with orange trimmings, and light blue sandals. At first, neither man nor girl said anything until they both screamed, one startled, the other a bit frightened.
Luffy panted heavily in disbelief, slamming the lid back on and glaring at the barrel for the longest time before he stomped over to it.
"Maybe he'll forget I'm--"
"Sora!" Sora jumped, the barrel falling over along with herself and half the apples were gone, the cores leftover. "You ate all of the apples?!" Luffy, though far beyond angry, was also confused. "How did you even--How--Wha--!"
"I got hungry and I got carried away, alright?!" Sora held up her hands, immediately dropping a half-finished apple. "I didn't know you were gonna pick this barrel!"
"This was the only apple barrel!" Luffy pulled Sora up by the arm. "Why didn't you stay home?! Now we gotta go all the way back!"
"But I don't wanna be left alone..." Sora whined, sniffling a little.
"We'll see each other when you turn 17, I already told you this!" Luffy still didn't let go. "Why did you disobey me! Now Dadan's gonna kill me, and then Gramps is gonna kill both of us!"
"I'm sorry..." Sora looked at her feet, hurt. "I just wanna go with you..."
"And I wanted you to stay," Luffy let go of her arm and searched the floor of the sailboat. "Where are the paddles?!"
"I don't think this boat came with one..." Sora twiddled with her thumbs and Luffy slowly looked at her, asking through gritted teeth. "What. The. Hell. Did. You. Do?"
"Uh..." Sora gulped. "I kinda broke them a few days before you were leaving...?"
"WHAT?!!!" Luffy's scream shook the waters before gripping his head. "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!!"
"I was trying to play swords with a tree!" Sora answered, a bit scared.
"YOU--!" Luffy stopped himself before looking around. "Great. We're both lost..."
"I'm sorr--"
"Just stop!" Luffy covered Sora's mouth. "Let me think..."
Sora waited patiently and after a good minute, Luffy sat down, rubbing his face. "Are you okay?" Asked Sora, kneeling by him.
"Nope," Luffy sighed before looking at Sora. "You can tag along, but as soon as we find a better boat, I'm taking you home, understand?"
Sora pouted and looked away with a hurt expression. "Whatever."
ONE DAY LATER
A raging whirlpool amazed two men in white uniforms and caps who stood on deck of a cruise ship. Nothing out of the ordinary seemed to transpire until faint, but clear thumping could be heard on the wooden ship, revealing a wooden barrel just floating in the water.
Under deck, a huge ballroom held a bunch of people who were dressed in their most fancy clothing for a party. There were free food and alcohol passed around as well as couples dancing in the middle. The captain with his white t-shirt, pants, and buckle shoes calmed a concerned passenger about the whirlpool, wearing a gentle smile. "No worries! A whirlpool of that size poses no problem to this ship!"
A young woman stood nearby, looking to be 18 or 19 with short orange hair and a curl framing a side of her face, her dark brown eyes were focused on what seemed to be the ocean, her ears having red earrings and a beautiful, tan dress with red trimming finished off her look. This caught the attention of one man with a light green dress shirt with long sleeves and dark hair, so he approached her with a flirty grin. "Excuse me, Miss?" The woman turned around, puzzled. "May I have this dance?"
The woman didn't answer, only gave him a tiny grin and tilted her head a bit as the man bowed politely with closed eyes.
Out on deck, since the one sailor pointed out the barrel, he challenged the other sailor that stood by him to reel the barrel up with a metal hook and rope. "Alright!" The sailor with the swinging hook grit his teeth with concentration, but thanks to gravity, the hook didn't connect with the barrel, only water. "Not again..."
"Batter out!" The sailor behind him snickered.
A sailor on the masthead face-palmed, also amused. "What're you doing? You suck!" His smile went away when he thought he heard whooshing waves from behind the abandoned island the cruise ship was passing.
The barrel dripped water as it was lugged out by the hook when the sailor that messed up did another attempt. "This thing's heavy!" The sailor grunted, a smile on his face.
"Must be filled with booze, then!" The sailor that helped him with the barrel chuckled.
"It's all ours now!"
The sailor on the masthead couldn't believe what he was seeing! It turns out he wasn't going crazy, there was another ship in the area they were in, and what made him nauseous was the jolly rodger of a pink heart on the four, curled sails and the two black flags connected to the main mast and back mast.
The sailor waited in silence, nervous and widening his eyes when the sails unfurled, giving him the cue to shout down at his two companions. "Ship off the starboard stern!" The two sailors, who both now held the barrel, looked up at him in surprise. "There's a pirate flag on its mast!" Now the sailors were shocked as the sailor continued shouting. "It's a pirate ship! Enemy raid! Enemy raid!"
The two sailors let out screams and dropped the barrel to run below deck. The pink pirate ship fired all of their three cannons under deck, the deadly balls intentionally hitting the water that shook the cruise ship and made all the passengers under deck scream in fright, some even collasped because of the trembling.
The orange-haired woman's expression changed, going unnoticed by the man she was dancing with, who was terrified beyond belief. The two sailors burst through the exit doors. "Captain! Pirates!"
"What?!" The captain cried, starting to sweat as another boom shook the cruise and he looked to all the passengers. "Everyone, stay calm! Stay calm! Follow instructions in a calm manner!" Ignoring the orders, the passengers flooded out the exit with no hesitation, but the orange-haired woman stayed against the wall, a mischievous grin creeping on her face.
On the pirate ship, two men in control of one of the cannons fired another cannonball at the order of their woman captain. The third ball had shattered the cruise's whale figurehead to pieces. The woman captain watched on the deck as the cruise ship suffered the attacks, her brown eyes shining. "Coby!"
A frail 16 year old boy with round glasses, parted pink hair, a white, buttoned t-shirt with thin blue stripes on the shoulders, blue pants, and shoes froze in his spot between the captain and her group of men, who were all smirking at his fear. "Y-Yes, Ma'am?!" Coby's voice came out with a squeak.
"Who's the most beautiful of all on these seas?" Coby gulped at the question and rubbed the back of his head with a nervous smile, his answer coming out shaky. "T-This ship's captain, Alvida, of course!"
The captain known as Alvida let out a deep, boisterous laugh, her red-painted lips and freckles reflecting in the water, her long, wavy black hair curled back a little under a large white hat with a hot pink feather, her sharp nails also painted hot pink, a pink, lined flannel shirt with a red neck scarf, purple sash at the waist with a pistol weapon and golden jewelry with different colored gems, white pants with red heels and golden buckles, and a long, dark blue overcoat with golden trimming and gold shoulder pads.
Alvida stopped her laughing fit to slam her spiked club on the wooden floor, a smirk on her face. "Well done!"
"T-Thank you!" Coby breathed, relief overcoming him.
"Alvida," A man with a bald head, goatee, and orange shirt spoke up. "This is our first prey in a while."
"That's right!" Alvida gave one glance at the man that spoke and looked towards a man with a purple shirt and blonde hair, who stood at the bow of the ship that happened to have a fourth cannon pointed at their target. "Alright! Start pounding the ship!"
All the men acknowledged the order with cheers and the cannonball flew at the back mast of the cruise, which crumbled and fell. The barrel rolled down the deck, falling into an open hatch that led to a huge cellar hallway.
The orange-haired woman had no difficulty running down a fancy hallway, holding up her skirt. The barrel rolled until its end made contact with an open door to the kitchen and rolled inside.
The orange-haired woman looked around on the main deck when opening a blue door with a round window, going towards the right when Alvida's ship made her rush back under the deck to the ballroom in fear, passengers still trying to escape.
One man of Alvida's crew with a stripped beanie of blue and white, a striped shirt of blue and white, and dark pants threw one hook with rope, the hook latching onto the cruise ship railing. Another man with sandy, neck-length hair, tiny beard, aqua blue head band, thin-striped orange shirt, blue sash, and black pants threw another hook at the railing, which latched on, as well, followed by a third hook.
"Men!" Alvida swung her club forward in anticipation. "Show them the terror of Iron Club Alvida, the woman pirate!"
As soon as the first three pirates ran on the ropes to jump on the cruise ship, all the other men followed suit with loud cheers and holding sabers. Some even used free ropes to swing on the cruise ship.
Alvida saw Coby trembling and holding a rope nearby and called his name in anger. "Coby! What're you doing?!"
"I-I'm not good at this sort of thing..." Coby stammered, but that appeared to only anger Alvida more as the huge woman trudged over towards him, asking. "Are you tryin' to give me backtalk?!"
"P-Please, anything but the club!" Coby whimpered, his legs shaking and his face sweating as he looked up at Alvida.
"Then get yer ass in gear!" Alvida kicked Coby in his bottom so that the tearful boy would fly on the cruise ship, his entire face coming in contact with a wall of wood. Trying to not cry, Coby sat up on his knees to rub his aching face only to hear loud, angry yelling from above and he looked up in terror at Alvida, who was about to wipe the floor with his face until he had ducked, covering his head.
Alvida growled, realizing that as soon as she made contact with the wall and crashed through the wood, Coby had already vanished somewhere. Under the deck, Alvida's men had the terrified passengers cornered and huddled. "We won't take yer lives, but we will take all yer valuables!" The bald man with the goatee told them.
"Anyone who tries to fight back'll wind up at the bottom of the ocean!" Alvida was heard behind her men, and the bald man was the first to start laughing, followed by the other men.
The orange-haired woman hid around a corner, frowning at the scene before she grinned and flung off her dress, revealing a blue shirt with the end tucked in a red sash, her head sporting a dark bandana, her dark wristbands also shown, brown pants with the ends rolled up, light brown shoes with gold buckles, and striped socks.
Coby started exploring the empty hall of the cellar, his head peeking to the cracked open kitchen door. "Hello..." After a moment of hesitation, he walked in fully, cautiously looking around. "There's no one in here, right?" Of course, there was no answer to the question and he sighed in relief, one hand on his chest. "What a relief..."
What caught his eye was the barrel the sailors pulled up from the water, and, seeing how big it was compared to the others, approached it slowly, murmering. "That's a rather large barrel..."
On the rope outside, the orange-haired woman used a wooden hanger to step foot on Alvida's ship, running to a door that led to a cellar room and, with her back against the wall, slowly reached for the knob. The door opened and the woman jumped a bit in surprise, seeing a drunk man with a viking helmet, a green vest, and a maroon sash stumble out and he had spotted her immediately. "Who're you?! Never seen you before!"
The man had trouble adjusting his vision before a searing pain in his crotch made him fall, dazed. The woman sighed in relief before innocently holding up a hand.
Coby grit his teeth, rolling the barrel out of the kitchen and to the exit door, not looking forward to the stairs until three of Alvida's men had blocked his path, one was the man with the striped beanie, the second was the sandy-haired man, and third was a man with slicked-back hair, face and shoulder tattoo, red wrist bands, purple tank top, light purple shorts, and brown shoes.
"Hey, coward!" Coby halted in his stride, startled but still scared. "Are you hidin' out in a place like this again?!"
"N-No!" Coby let go of the barrel, hands up. "I thought I'd haul this big barrel of alcohol over..."
"We'll lighten it for ya!" The beanie man chuckled.
"I was just feelin' thirsty!" The sandy-haired man added in the doorway.
"You can't!" Coby went slack jaw. "Alvida will kill us if she finds out!"
"Then you just need to keep her mouth shut!" The tattooed man snarled. "Right, Coby?"
"Y-Yes!" Coby let out nervous chuckles as the beanie man lifted up the barrel so it'd be upright. "You're right!"
"Thing's pretty heavy!" The beanie man admitted.
"Can't wait!" The sandy-haired man said.
"Hold yer horses!" The beanie man cracked each knuckle on each hand. "I'll bust it right open!" Eyeing the barrel, he reared back his left fist, preparing himself and, just as he was about to throw down his fist...
The barrel top burst apart and Luffy's right fist had punched the chin of the beanie man by accident while Luffy yawned really loudly, a huge smile on his face. "I SLEPT GREAT!!!"
The noise of the beanie man falling stopped Luffy from shouting, lowering his fists and staring down at the unconcious body in confusion. "Huh?" The man looked at the other two men, both shocked by the sudden event. "Who're you guys?"
"No, who are you?!" The two men switched the question back.
"That guy's gonna catch cold if he sleeps there, you know," Luffy stepped out of the barrel.
"You're the one who knocked him out!"
Luffy blinked at his reflection in the saber that was inches to his face. "Are you toyin' with us even when you know we're pirates?!" Luffy ignored the tattooed man to approach Coby, who stared up at him, speechless, and ask. "Man, I'm hungry! You got any food?"
"Listen when people are talking!"
"Luffy?" Sora yawned, her head popping up with tired eyes. "Are we still in the ocean?"
"Nope," Luffy looked back at Sora.
"Oh," Sora looked back at the two men, who bugged their eyes out at her. "Are you guys good or bad?"
"We're bad, moron!" The men barked.
"Oooh," Sora poked the still outstretched saber. "That's why these are out?"
"OBVIOUSLY!!" The two men screamed.
"Luffy, they're mean!" Sora pointed at the men. "Beat them up!"
"You don't tell me what to do, and plus you're still in trouble," Luffy pointed out as Sora grumbled something. "I heard that!"
"How?!"
"Stop ignoring us!" The tattooed man ordered before he and the sandy-haired man raised their two sabers and Coby let out a squeak of terror. "Die!"
"Uh oh," Sora lowered her body into the barrel just as Luffy slowly turned and Coby covered his eyes fearfully.
Coby heard the harsh sound of bodies on the floor and blades getting broke and so he hesitantly uncovered his eyes and let out a gasp, seeing Sora alive and Luffy in front of her while the two men sat on their bottoms, both trembling and holding their broken sabers.
"Why would you want to hurt my sister?" Luffy asked, staring down at them in disappointment. "Attacking little girls are just cold."
"Thanks, Luffy!" Sora said, jumping out the barrel.
"W-What are you?!" The two men whimpered.
"Me?" Luffy crossed his arms and smiled widely. "I'm Monkey D. Luffy. Nice to meetcha!"
"I'm Sora, put er here!" Sora held out a hand so one of the men could shake, but instead, the two men screamed and dragged their unconcious companion out of the kitchen and down the hall, still screaming.
"What the..." Coby could barely speak, looking up at Sora and Luffy. "What just happened?"
"What's with them?" Luffy asked.
"Maybe they're scared of how strong you are!" Sora gripped Luffy's forearm. "I mean, you have muscles."
"You think so, huh?" Luffy chuckled.
Once Coby snapped out of his trance, he scrambled to be on his feet and whispered to the pair. "R-Run, hurry! If they come back with their friends, you'll both die!"
"Sora, do you smell food?" Luffy asked, sniffing the air as a familiar aroma evaded his nostrils.
"I smell love!" Sora gasped before they both smiled and started forward.
"How can you be so carefree?!" Coby cried, holding onto Luffy's arm and getting dragged as well towards the door, even though he was trying to avoid getting killed until he gasped for air when his neck was caught between the double doors.
"Oh god!" Sora opened the doors and Coby fell on his back, gasping. "Damn, Luffy! I think he's dying!"
"Oh..." Luffy stared down at Coby. "Is he alright?"
"No clue," Sora held up three fingers to Coby's eyes. "How many fingers am I holding up, dude?"
"3?" Coby groaned, sitting up.
"There ya go!" Sora walked away with Luffy. "See ya!"
"H-Hey!" Coby quickly followed them. "Wait! You guys can't go this way!"
Coby was hesitant to go on deck, only to realize that Luffy and Sora were heading into a tiny room with a flight of steps that led to the exit, and what was in this tiny room? "Food! Food!" Luffy chirped, overjoyed and jumping over the steps. "Yes! Food!"
"Check if there are any dumplings!" Sora blitzed past Luffy. "I love dumplings!"
"Actually, they might not find us in here!" Coby gently shut the door and looked over at Luffy and Sora, Luffy handing Sora one of the two apples he held. "M-My name is Coby." He walked down the steps to stand behind the siblings. "You're Luffy and Sora, right?"
"These are great!" Luffy turned to Coby, chewing and then turning back around.
"Nice to meet ya, dude!" Sora said cheerfully, still eating her apple.
"Is this a pirate ship?" Asked Luffy, remembering the two pirates that attempted to kill his sister.
"No," Coby replied. "It's a passenger ship that's being raided by Alvida."
"Who the hell's Alvida?" Asked Sora, turning around fully, tossing the core.
"She's this really evil woman pirate with a club." Coby visibly shivered.
"Well, it doesn't matter," Luffy shrugged, still eating. "Do you know if there are any boats on board?"
"I-I think so..."
"My ship got swallowed by this giant whirlpool--"
"You mean that whirlpool?!" Coby widened his eyes. "No one could survive that!"
"Do you know if there are any paddles on the boats?" Coby frowned lightly and said. "I'm not sure."
"If there are, I need to bring my sister back home."
"Really?" Coby looked to Sora, who crossed her arms. "Why?"
"'Cause Sora wasn't supposed to come with me," Luffy raised a brow at Sora, who glared at him as he asked Coby. "So, are you one of those pirates, too?"
Coby let out a saddened sigh, his frown getting deeper. "It was on that fateful day..." He made eye-contact with Luffy while Sora had slowly took a bite from another apple. "That day, I got in a boat on the outskirts of town to go fishing..."
~FLASHBACK~
Coby, at 14 years old, smiled as he prepared his fishing pole until he looked up and saw the large shadow of Alvida, the woman pirate, staring him down like he was prey, so she and her crew ended up forcing the frightened Coby to join their crew.
~END OF FLASHBACK~
"...but it turned out the boat was actually headed for a pirate ship," Coby adjusted himself so he'd sit right between Luffy and Sora, who both stared at him in silence. "It's been two years since..." He stared at the ground in sorrow. "In exchange for my life, I've been forced to be a chore boy."
"Man, you're dumb and stupid!" Said Luffy.
"You're brutally honest..." Coby scrunched his face.
"If you don't like it, then run away!"
"I-I can't! No way! No way!" Coby rapidly shook his head, heart racing. "Just the thought of Alvida finding me frightens me and makes me weak in the knees--!"
"Oh, you're a wimp, too?" Luffy tilted his head before he started laughing. "Man, I hate you!"
Coby could only chuckle nervously, tears streaming down from his eyes.
"So is this Alvida lady strong or something?" Sora asked.
"Yes, of course," Coby's tears ceased. "I've never been so terrified as I was two years ago..."
"Run away, then, dumbo."
"I already told you, I can't!"
Luckily, the passengers were spared, but their things and gold were all stolen, and Alvida stood by, ordering her men to haul the treasure chests to her ship. "Hey, now! Quit dawdling! Haul it all off before the Navy gets here!" With that, the men carried treasure chests faster when they heard her threat. "Anyone caught dawdling gets a taste of my iron club!"
The orange-haired woman ignored everything around her, wiping any sweat from her forehead while admiring all the treasure she had wrapped in a huge sack.
The two men of Alvida's crew that Luffy scared off got stuck in the open hatch, spotting their captain. "Alvida!" Alvida turned at the sound of her name. "It's bad!"
"What is it?!" Alvida asked, now turning fully. "You're annoying me!"
"A b-b-barrel!" The tattooed man stammered.
"M-M-Monster!" The sandy-haired man added.
"Huh?!" Alvida's eyes turned wary and the two men stared at her in silence. "Who're you calling a monster?!"
Seeing that Alvida threw her club, the two men had no choice but to use the only defense. Their own friend, who was still unconcious but would definitely get brain-damage since he got knocked off the ship and far into the ocean as the club dropped straight down on both men's skulls. "N-No..." The sandy-haired man choked out. "Some weird guy popped out of a barrel...along with a red-headed little girl..." Alvida's ears picked up on his words. "He might be...a bounty hunter..."
"What?!" Alvida glared at them both in disbelief.
As Sora reached for another apple, Coby had smiled pathetically, whispering. "Yeah...that's right...If only I had the courage to drift the ocean in a barrel..." He let out a quiet sigh. "...there's actually something I wanna do, too..."
Luffy let out a confused hum and Coby looked at Luffy, asking. "What compelled you to set out onto the sea, Luffy?"
Luffy looked at Coby with a huge smile, full of pride. "I'm gonna be King of the Pirates!" Coby went slack jaw at those words, his face pale and he stammered. "K-K-King of the Pirates?!"
"Yep."
"Are you serious?!"
"Yeah."
"Wait, you're a pirate, Luffy?!"
"Yep."
"I'm a pirate, too!" Said Sora.
"Nope, you're not," Luffy lightly bumped her head.
"Coby?" Sora poked Coby's forehead, but the boy was frozen solid, his face still slack jaw and pale. "I think something's wrong with him."
"Me, too..." Luffy held out a hand in front of Coby, and that snapped Coby out of his trance 'cause Coby quickly stood, his voice fearful. "K-K-King of the Pirates is the title given to the person who obtains everything in this world! That means seeking the great treasure of Wealth, Fame, and Power, the One Piece!"
"Yup!" Luffy smiled again.
"Yup?!" Coby cried while Sora finished off her 6th apple. "Pirates all over the world are after that treasure!"
"That's cool!" Sora said in awe.
"It's not! Some pirates are very, very dangerous!" Coby then started shaking his head again, somehow it was even more frantic. "No way! No way, no way, no way! Absolutely no way! There's no way you can stand at the apex of this Great Pirate Era! No way! No way!"
Luffy's fist bumped Coby's skull and Coby whimpered a bit in pain, now on his knees. "Why did you hit me?"
"Just because," Luffy answered.
"But it's all right. I'm used to it now..." Coby chuckled lightly, sitting up a bit more and rubbing his aching head.
"If you're so used to it, how come it hurt?" Asked Sora.
"Are you serious right now?!"
"Yep. Dead."
"It's not about whether I can or not," Luffy said, taking off his straw hat. "I'm gonna do it because I want to. I've decided to be the King of the Pirates, so if I die fighting for that, that's fine with me!"
Coby was awestruck and Luffy grabbed Sora by the hand and pulled her up. "C'mon, Sora. We're getting ourselves a boat."
"How're we gonna find them, exactly?" Sora asked.
"We'll figure it out." Luffy shrugged. "We could always ask for one."
As they were at the door, Coby asked hesitantly. "Do you suppose I can do it, too? If I'm prepared to die for it?"
"Do what?"
"Do you think even I could join the Navy?"
"Navy?"
"Yes! Catching bad guys is my dream!" Coby admitted, standing up with tears brimming in his eyes. "It's been my dream ever since I was little! Do you think I can do it?!"
"How should I know?" Luffy chuckled in amusement, his head tilted.
"If it's your dream, you can do whatever you want, right?" Sora smiled.
"You're right!" Coby's tears faded and his fists were clenched. "I'll do it! If I'm gonna be a chore boy for the rest of my life, then I'll break out of here and catch all pirates, including Alvi--!"
The roof above them caved in and Coby's entire determination crumbled with the debris as he scrambled back from the dust cloud, covering part of his face in fear. "You're gonna team up with them to catch who?!" Alvida questioned from the dust. "Huh, Coby?!"
Coby let out whimpers in response, shaking and just as Luffy was gonna look closely at Alvida, 5 blades popped out of the wall and door and Sora widened her eyes at how big Alvida really was. Alvida rested her club against her shoulder and averted her attention on Luffy, and then to Sora, who looked at Coby.
"You don't seem to be Zoro, the pirate hunter," Said Alvida with a smirk.
"Zoro?" Said Luffy in puzzlement as Coby gasped z little.
"Pirate hunter?" Sora added, even more confused now.
"Coby!" Coby squeaked at Alvida calling his name. "Who's the most beautiful of all on these seas?!"
"O-Of course that would be--!"
"Who's this big chunky lady?" Luffy cut Coby off, and the entire room stilled and the bald man of Alvida's crew and the sandy-haired man were above the hole, just as shocked.
Sora watched with wide eyes as tiny veins started appearing on Alvida's pale face. "Your face is going red, lady..." She stated. "Are you hot or something?"
"Why, Sora?!"Coby cried in his head.
Alvida was speechless before, but now she was angry. Really angry. "YOU RUNTS!!!" That scream was so loud that Sora jumped a bit and Alvida raised her club over her head.
"Uh oh," Sora gulped before Luffy had her tucked under his armpit and jumped up and away from the club that broke the stairs.
Coby had his eyes closed, trying not to cry until Luffy set Sora down for a moment. "Let's go, guys!" Coby opened his eyes at Luffy's words and Alvida watched as Luffy grabbed both Coby and Sora, Sora waving at Alvida and flipping her off while Coby let out screams of fear.
Luffy set the two down on the main deck, his grin wide and excited. "Why, you!" The bald man was the first to rush Luffy, who flipped back and head-butted the man.
Another man with slicked-back, yellow hair tried to jump Luffy from behind, only to get punched in the face. "Sora, watch out!" Coby cried.
"Oh, hi dude!" Sora waved at a man with a red tank top, who tried swinging his saber at her neck, but she backed up onto the railing. "C'mon, asshole! Let's go!" She dodged to the side and back on the deck. "A little bit closer..." Another swing and Sora had flipped out a brown-handled switchblade and sliced the man's face so he'd stumble overboard. "Woohoo! I did it!"
"Woah...!" Coby gasped.
Luffy was about to praise Sora until he jumped away from four sabers. "Whoops!" He landed on the ground gracefully, gripping his left shoulder with a cheeky smile. Coby smiled at that, but his smile faded when a man with a purple bandana tried to jump on Luffy from above, but his saber struck the wood instead and he was thrown into the other five men. "It's not fair to attack from behind!"
"Awesome!" Sora had stars in her eyes before she looked behind Luffy and tensed.
"What's wrong?" Asked Luffy, oblivious to his surroundings until he heard growling and looked over his shoulder and saw a group of men with sabers, glaring at him dangerously.
Coby slumped and Luffy was running towards the back of the ship with the men following him. "It's not fair to attack all at once!" Luffy yelled, unconsciously grabbing the main mast and still running, but why did the men stop chasing him? It's because they were trying to comprehend why the hell Luffy's arm was stretching.
The men all screamed in terror and Luffy smirked. "Gotcha!" Ditching the sabers, the men tried to run, but Luffy's arm tensed. "Gum-Gum..." As Alvida popped up from the hole of the deck, Luffy let himself go limp, his body shooting at the running men. "Rocket!"
A bunch of screams followed silence and Coby was still in shock. Normally, the Alvida Pirates were dangerous, but they were now the ones who were terrified!
"I see your brought your switchblade?" Luffy asked Sora, who stood by him and placed the switchblade inside her pants at the hip. "Nice!"
"Thank you!" Sora grinned cheekily. "That means I can stay with you, right?"
"Nope!" Luffy chuckled. "I'm still mad," He bumped her head. "But not much!"
"L-Luffy..." Coby whispered, approaching the pair. "What are you?"
"Me?" Luffy stretched the corner of his lip. "I'm a rubber person!"
"A rubber person? You can't be serious!"
"Oh, he's dead serious!" Sora patted Luffy's thigh. "I thought he was born with it, at first!"
"Then you tried to stretch your arm, too since we were siblings!" Luffy chuckled at the memory.
"Oh boy..." Sora looked behind Coby, who quickly scrambled behind Luffy in fear, but Alvida didn't look as angry as she did, now her face was cold and knowing. "You've eaten a Devil's Fruit, haven't you?" Asked Alvida.
"Yeah!" Luffy let go of his lip. "The Gum-Gum Fruit!"
"I see! I'd heard the rumors, but I guess they really do exist!" Alvida tilted her head with a smirk while the rest of her men on the pirate ship watched the scene. "You also seem pretty skilled. You a bounty hunter?"
"I'm a pirate!"
"A pirate?! Hah! Pirates aren't babysitters!" Alvida glanced at Sora, who stuck out her tongue.
"She snuck on my boat to eat apples!" Luffy explained.
"They were good apples!" Sora protested.
The orange-haired woman secretly exited through a door of the pirate ship, sneaking to the back where the boats would be with a sack of stolen treasure.
"If you're a pirate, that would make us enemies, huh?" Alvida sneered.
"G-Guys! Let's get out of here!" Coby hissed quietly.
"Why?" Luffy asked.
"You saw how powerful her club is! In these waters, she's the most--!" Coby stopped, looking up at Luffy in silence, his mouth open slightly while Luffy stared right back at him in confusion.
~FLASHBACK~
"I've decided to be King of the Pirates, so if I die fighting for that, that's fine with me!"
~END OF FLASHBACK~
Alvida watched Coby expectantly. "I'm the most what?!"
"T-T-The..." Coby sweated and took a deep breath, screaming angrily. "THE MOST UGLY, CRAGGED OLD HAG EVER!!!!"
The men went slack jaw, all sweating nervously. Thankfully, Coby had his eyes closed so he couldn't see how angry Alvida was getting. Luffy started laughing loudly. "Sora, didja hear that?!" He cried.
"Yeah, old hag! He said old hag!" Sora snickered, clutching her stomach.
"What did you say?!" Alvida growled.
"I..." Coby gulped. "I'm going to join the Navy! And then I'm gonna beat up pirates!"
"Do you even know what you're saying?!"
"I do! I'm gonna do what I want to do! I'm gonna..." Coby clenched his fists. "I'm gonna join the Navy and catch your lousy ass!"
"YOU DAMN PIPSQUEAK!!!" Coby gripped the sides of his face in terror when Alvida raised her club over her head."No regrets! No regrets!"He thought frantically."I said it! I fought! I fought for my dream!"
"Well said!" Luffy pushed Coby back and his feet created craters in the deck when his skull got slammed by the club. Nobody moved until Luffy smirked. "That won't work!"
"What?!" Alvida cried.
"'Cause I'm made of rubber!" Luffy knocked the club off his skull, which made Alvida stumble back as his arm stretched and he gripped his right shoulder. "Gum-Gum..." He balanced on one foot, throwing his fist into Alvida's large stomach. "Pistol!"
Alvida screamed in pain with spittle coming from her mouth, the rubber fist sending her to the sky. Out in the waters, the beanie man lied awake on the surface, dazed. "The sky is so blue..." The sun was blocked by a large shadow and he couldn't scream when Alvida slammed down on him, creating a large splash.
Coby was slack jaw and Sora smiled widely as Luffy's fist snapped back. "Hey, Luffy," Sora tugged on Luffy's red vest. "What do we do about those guys?"
"Hmm..." Luffy smiled mischievously before he frowned at the horrified men. "Hey! Give Coby a small boat! He's gonna join the navy! Keep your mouths shut and let him go!"
"R-Right!" All the men stammered.
"Luffy!" Coby smiled lightly, overjoyed.
The boat started shaking as loud booms echoed in the air. "What the what?!" Sora yelped as Luffy held onto her.
"It's the navy!" Coby pointed out, spotting three battleships.
"Oh, perfect timing! You should go see 'em!" Luffy smiled at Coby, who looked back at him. "But I'm a pirate! C'mon Sora!"
"Kay, kay!" Sora jumped on Luffy's back as Luffy leaped over the railing.
"Get serious!" Coby cried. "I can't just join the navy like this! I'll be captured instead!"
The orange-haired woman, with her bandana off, was tying the string around her sack until Luffy, Sora, and Coby's boat splashed next to hers, making her shriek.
10 minutes later, the boat was safely away from the cruise ship and Alvida's ship. "Looks like we managed to get away..." Coby sighed in relief.
"Whew, that was fun!" Luffy laughed.
"Umm, Luffy. If you're heading for the One Piece, that means you're going to the Grand Line, right?"
"Yeah."
"That place is also referred to as a pirate graveyard, you know."
"Yeah. That's why I need a strong crew."
"Like me!" Sora added.
"No!" Luffy bumped her fist on his skull and he looked to Coby again, interested. "What about that pirate hunter guy? What's he like?"
"You mean Zoro?" Coby asked. "I heard he's being held prisoner at a navy base."
"Aww, he's a weakling?" Luffy frowned.
"Nothing of the sort! He's as terrifying as a demon!" Coby had slammed his hands on a barrel, his eyes full of confusion when he asked. "Why are you asking about him?"
"Thought I might have him join my crew if he's a good guy!" Luffy grinned cheekily.
"You're being reckless again!" Coby was slack jaw and had gone pale.
"C'mon, he might be a good guy!"
"He's been caught because he's a bad guy!" Coby started frantically shaking his head once more. "No! No way, no way, no way! Absolutely no--!" Luffy's fist bumped his head so Coby would be on his hands and knees. "Why did you hit me?"
"Just because!" Luffy shrugged before looking around.
"What're you doing, Luffy?" Asked Coby, standing.
"Looking for paddles."
"Luffy!" Sora whined, grabbing his vest. "I don't wanna go back! I can fight!"
"Sora, you don't understand how dangerous it is out there!"
"Neither do you!"
"Yeah, I do know!"
"What're you so afraid of?!" Coby squirmed away from the argument. "I can take care of myself!"
"Oh sure you can!"
"Uh, Luffy?" Coby tapped Luffy's arm and muttered. "There are no paddles."
Luffy pinched his nose and Sora smiled. "Great...just great..." He groaned.
"That means I get to stay!" Sora raised her arms in victory.
"No, it doesn't! You're going back whether you like it or not! Do you understand me?!" Sora widened her eyes before shoving past Luffy and sitting against the boat's side, her chin in her palm.
Luffy just sat down, hat now over his eyes and nose while Coby let out a sigh of relief.
Not far from where the trio were, an island with a huge town leading uphill to a large, navy base and what was inside the field of that base? It was a weakened man with a white t-shirt, lined green belly band, green pants, green cloth tied over his green hair, and green boots. In the scorching heat, the man had his arms tied to the sides of a wooden cross, his legs free, but he made no resistance, just raised his head with a dangerous glare that could kill.
