Chapter 2 Sanctuary brawl

Page 1

Splash panel Thunder and lightning rain over a tall religious building. The front of which contains a massive stained-glass windows featuring four goddesses. Three breathing life and a fourth overlooking the world. Through this window a dim light can be seen. Surrounding the building is a fence and forest. There is only one visible gate to get into the sanctuary's grounds past the fence. Link and Zelda can be seen standing before the wooden doors.

Page 2

Panel 1 Link and Zelda stand in front of a large pair of doors.

Link: Are you sure we can trust this man Princess Zelda?

Zelda: Of course. He was my father's previous advisor and I have known him since I was a child.

Panel 2 Zelda knocks on the door whilst Link looks away annoyed

Link: If he's so trustworthy, how did he lose his position to Agahnim?

Panel 3 The door opens causing Link to stand at ends alarmed whilst Zelda looks in smiling.

SFX CREEK

Panel 4 The door opens to an older man in a hooded brown robe with a big white beard whom Zelda gives jumps into hugging, The old man looks confused. Link stands ready to pull his weapons out.

Old man: Zelda?

Zelda: Thank the goddesses your safe old man.

Page 3

Panel 1 Zelda and the old man walk down an aisle of church pews whilst Link hangs back, jaw open marveling at the sculptures that decorate the room.

Zelda: Come, there is much we need to discuss.

Panel 2 A closed fist's knuckles punches down onto a stone table.

Old man (off): That accursed swine.

Panel 3 The old man, with his hand still in the table and his other hand just lying flat on it, is fuming with anger. Zelda has both her hands held together over her mouth with a look of deep thought.

They are both sat at a stone table in a small room filled only with a few bookcases and one or two barrels.

Old man: I knew he was dangerous. But I never thought he was capable of something like this.

Zelda: I know. But the only thing we can do now is rally the rest of my people and bring Agahnim to justice.

Panel 4 Zelda holds her position from the previous panel. The old man looks at her concerned.

Old man: Zelda, I do not think that is such a good idea.

Old man (2) I think it would be best if we retreated to the safety of one of your allies.

Page 4

Panel 1 Zelda looks at the old man infuriated.

Zelda: Are you suggesting I retreat and give Agahnim Hyrule!?

Zelda (2): He has already taken my father, my friends and my home. I will not give him the land which by birthright is rightfully mine!

Panel 2 The Old man looks away, with his eyes in shadows and grinding his teeth, placing his hand on a red bound book.

Old man: I understand how you feel your majesty. I would much prefer to see Agahnims head on a spike than run.

Panel 3 The old man looks at Zelda cautiously whilst Zelda beams with enthusiastic vigor.

Old man: But do not forget, Agahnim has an army of knights, and we do not.

Zelda: No, but my people will take up arms on my command.

Old man: That… may be your majesty, but they are only ordinary people with little training. They would be cut down in seconds.

Zelda: Maybe, but I know my people would sooner sacrifice their lives than let somebody else control their ruler's land.

Panel 4 The old man, with sweat running down his face, looks paranoid to the side whilst Zelda looks at him confused.

Old man: …Your majesty I think this is a conversation for another time. We should not be making plans near untrustworthy company.

Zelda: What do you mean?

Panel 5 Zelda and the old man look through an arch doorway to see look across the building looking up at something on a pillar.

Old man: How do we know we can trust him? You say he is from this area…

Old man (2): But I do not recognise him from my congregation. For all we know he is a spy for Agahnim.

Zelda: Maybe, but Link and his uncle were the only ones who answered my call for help.

Zelda (2): After Agahnims forces killed his uncle he could have sought revenge, but he chose to rescue me instead.

Panel 6 Shot of Zeldas blushing face.

Zelda: So yes, we can trust him.

Page 5

Panel 1 A low angle shot of a statue of a woman, with long hair and a simple robe, attached high up on a pillar stare down into the panel.

Panel 2 A high angle shot of Link looking up awestruck.

Page 6

Panel 1 Zelda and the old man stand to the side of Link seeing him awestruck by the statue. Link nods.

Zelda: She is majestic, is she not?

Panel 2 Low angle shot of both Zelda and Link looking up. Link still looks awestruck whilst Zelda has a look of admiration.

Zelda: No matter how many times I see her, I can never not feel a kinship with my ancestor, Hylia.

Link: She's Hylia?

Old man (off): Watch out Princess Zelda!

Panel 3 Link and Zelda both turn their heads in the same direction looking confused.

Panel 4 The old man brings a sword down intending for Link. Link jumps out of the way in the opposite direction from Zelda.

SFX: Swish

Page 7

Panel 1 Link, with his back to the audience, positioned on the floor looks at the approaching old man, burning with determination and holding his sword ready, whilst Zelda tugs at his arm.

Zelda: Old man what are you doing?! I told you Link could be trusted!

Old man: Princess as your advisor I am not taking any chances with this one.

Panel 2 Link sitting up holds his head looking annoyed

Link: Ugh, why am I not surprised? Even rescuing Princess Zelda wouldn't get people like you of my back.

Panel 3 We see both the old man and Link argue with each other.

Old man: Probably because you didn't actually rescue the Princess!

Link: What!? Why else would she be with me if I didn't rescue her?

Old man: Simple, you're a spy for Agahnim, who pretended to rescue the princess only to identify the rest of your masters' enemies.

Link: What!? I'd never work for Agahnim, his forces killed my uncle!

Panel 4 Link, with a mischievous grin, positions himself ready to make a quick move.

Old man (off): So you say, but how'd you explain a simple farm boy accomplishing something trained knights couldn't!?

Link: Maybe like the advisor role it doesn't take much to be called a trained knight.

Panel 5 Aiming for Link the old man slices his sword into the ground. Link dodges by rolling towards some pughs.

SFX Slash

Old man: You swine!

Page 8

Panel 1 Zelda grips the old man arm.

Zelda: Old man please stop!

Old man: Your majesty as your advisor and agent of the goddesses, it is my responsibility to remove any threats to their land and heirs.

Panel 2 Old man and Zelda look across the room to some pughs to where laughter confused at a Link lying on the floor laughing hysterically.

SFX Ha, Ha, Ha

Old man: Wh-why are you laughing?

Panel 3 Link lifts himself up with one hand on the pugh and the other wiping a tear out of his eye.

Link: You're an agent of the goddesses? Wow! They must have really low standards.

Panel 4 The old man, looking enraged, attempts to decapitate Link, who simply ducks whilst keeping his hat attached to his head. Zelda in the background looks scared.

Old man: Be quiet.

Page 9

Panel 1

Link pops his head over some pews behind the ones he was in previous. He leans against them in a mocking way.

Link: Some agent, you can't even cut down a simple farm boy right in front of you.

Panel 2 Link ducks as the old man throws his sword at Link.

Panel 3 Link pops himself back above the pew with a mischievous grin on his face. The old mans sword can now be seen lodged in a pillar behind him

Link: Wow a rubbish advisor, a rubbish agent, a rubbish swordsman and a rubbish aim. Is there anything you're not rubbish at?

Panel 4 The old man leaps at Link.

Page 10

Panel 1 Shot of the old man's face as he looks rabid and enraged.

Old man: Now I've got you. You little sh-

Panel 2 Shot of the old man's face as he has a look of realization and confusion.

Old man: …What the?

Panel 3 We see that the old man only has Links hat

Link (off): Wow! I'm actually starting to feel sorry for you.

Panel 4 Low angle shot of the old man, with his back to the audience, looking up to see Link standing over the previous row of Pugh's. The old mans clenched fist can be seen shaking with rage.

Link: I'm less surprised Agahnim replaced you and more surprised it didn't happen sooner.

Panel 5 The old man stands up screaming Link ducks down ready to move again.

SFX Gaaah

Link: Uh oh.

Page 11

Panel 1 The old man kicks the pew with great power.

Panel 2 We see multiple pew get sent flying back collapsing on top of one another.

Panel 3 A birds eye view of the damage caused by rows of pews having collided and crashed on top of one another.

Page 12

Panel 1 On top of the pile we see some rumbling.

Panel 2 Link emerges from the the top of the pile making pushing some of the debris out of the way.

Link: Wheeze. Oh thank Hyli…

Panel 3 A sword comes into view next to Links face.

Link: Ah.

Panel 4 Low angle shot as we see the old man, with his eyes in shadows and a murderous smile, holding the sword and towering over Link.

Old man: Anymore remarks before I cut you down?

Panel 5 Link looking annoyed

Link: Yeah, if your Princess Zelda's advisor then Agahnim's already won.

Page 13

Panel 1 The old man throws his sword away with one hand and reaches for Link with his other

Old man: Why you! A sword isn't good enough, I want to feel the life leave you with my own hands.

Panel 2 Low angle shot of the old man shaking with anger with his face looking rabid, Links arms reach up out of the floor gripping his face. Zelda looks annoyed.

Old man: Oh how I wish you were your master!

Zelda: Old man as the heir to Hylia I order you to stop.

Panel 3 Same as before but Links hand now start gripping the old mans face.

Zelda: Old man I gave you an order!

Zelda (2): …Old man?

Panel 4 Zelda starts pulling on one of the old man's arms

Zelda: Old man please stop!

Zelda (2): Ariel would not want this!

Panel 5 Same angle as before but the old man lets go of Link causing Zelda to fall backwards.

SFX POP

Page 14

Panel 1 A low angle shot of the old man looking down to his side with a curious look.

Panel 2 A high angle shot of Zelda, on her back, with a stone face looking up.

Panel 3 The old man walks away into the background of the sanctuary. Zelda looks at him. Link has pulled out of the pews but is on his hands and knees couching.

Old man: Fine. But the second he acts suspicious I'm cutting him down.

Link: Cough. Splutter.

Page 15

Panel 1 Zelda drops to the floor to care for Link who is still on his hands and knees.

Zelda: Oh Link, I'm so sorry that happened. I can promise you that I will have the old man punished for defying orders.

Link: Don't worry he's not the first person to try that.

Panel 2 Link and Zelda now stands with Zelda looking at Link confused and concerned, whilst he stretches.

Zelda: What do you mean?

Panel 3 Link puts on a nervous smile and sweating profusely whilst scratching the back of his head.

Link: Oh, well… I often get into fights because…

Panel 4 Link dynamically poses whilst in the background three visages of Link fighting with other boys appear.

Link: I'm famous for being a great fighter. So famous I'm always having people challenge me.

Zelda (off): And that's why you are called the mighty Link!

Panel 5 Link looks confused.

Link: …

Zelda (off): Remember? When we met you called yourself "the mighty Link".

Panel 6 Link scratches the back of his head looking red faced. Behind him the previous visages show how Link was defeated in the fights with Link losing embarrassingly.

SFX (above Link) HEH HEH

Link: Oh yes! That's, exactly why I called myself that

Page 16

Panel 1 Zelda looks at Link adoringly

Zelda: And that also explains why you're not a part of the old man's congregation!

Link: Excuse me?

Zelda (2): Well, the old man said he did not recognize you from his congregation.

Zelda (3): But if you were always being challenged to fights then that explains why you were not. You would not want to risk fights occurring.

Panel 2 Link looks away sadly whilst behind one of Links shoulders there is a visage of a younger Link being blocked from entering the sanctuary by older Hylians looking at him disapprovingly. Zelda can be seen looking at Link adoringly over his other shoulder.

Link: Yeah… that's exactly the reason why.

Panel 3 Link quickly jumps upright startled by Zelda.

Zelda: This is wonderful, if you tell this to the old man then he will be happy to work with you.

Panel 4 Link turns around angered

Link: What?! I'm not going anywhere near him after what he just tried to do!

Panel 5 Zelda looks at Link with her arms crossed with a serious look on her face.

Zelda: Well you definitely did not help yourself with some of your comments.

Link (off): He started it when he attacked me before I even spoke to him.

Zelda: He was just worried about me. After what happened to his daughter, I do not blame him.

Panel 6 Link looks stunned.

Link: Wh-what, happened to his daughter?

Page 17

Panel 1 Shot of Zelda looking uncomfortable

Link (off) …Princess Zelda?

Panel 2 Zelda sits in a pugh looking down dispondant

Zelda: (sigh) I suppose you should know. Recently five girls have gone missing.

Link Oh yeah, I remember hearing about that. I didn't know it was five though.

Zelda (2): What you also did not know is that one of them was the old man's daughter, Ariel.

Panel 3 Link collapses back into the pillar in shock.

Panel 4 Shot of Agahnim and the old man in Hyrule castle. With Agahnim taunting the old man by holding the red bound book against him.

Zelda (narration): What worse is that we knew it was Agahnim since he openly taunted the old man after she went missing.

Panel 5 In the castle throne room, the king sitting on his throne, is beseeched by the old man holding the red bound book.

Zelda (narration): But when he told my father, a man he had served faithfully for 20 years.

Panel 6 The king not looking amused but very angry points to the old man, looking heartbroken, to leave.

Zelda (narration): He was rejected and replaced with a man my father barely knew.

Panel 7 Link slumped down against the pillar with his head down low in shame.

Link: I need to apologise.

Page 18

Panel 1 A knock on a wooden door

Old man (off): Who is it?

Link: It's Link, I want to talk.

Old man (off): Go away!

Panel 2 Link opens the door and walks in.

Link: I would, but I don't care what tell me to do.

Panel 3 Old man can be found with tears in his eyes looking annoyed, sitting down on a stone bench and holding a book in both hands

Old man: What do you want?

Panel 4 Link sits next to the old man who looks down.

Link: I came to apologise. I may not like you, but I would've never said what I did if I knew about Agahnim and your daughter.

Old man: It is okay, you didn't know, besides, I have figured out who you are anyway.

Panel 5 The old man looks at Link with a focused expression.

Old man: You're the oath breaker's child who lives on the farm up the road.

Panel 6 Link looks stunned

Link: What?! I… no that's crazy…

Page 19

Panel 1 Link enraged points at the old man. Due to shouting he causing spit to fly with some hitting the old man, looking mildly annoyed.

Link: HOW DARE YOU ACCUSE ME OF SOMETHING SO DISGUSTING!?

Panel 2 The old man laugh with his head in the air and his hands holding his chest with the other wiping the spit of his face with his robes.

SFX HA HA HA

Old man: Well now I know your definitely not a spy, cause you are a terrible liar.

Panel 3 Link with a big smile trying his best to look friendly and not nervous

Link: W-why do you think I'm this "oath breakers child" anyway?

Panel 4 Straight shot of the old man holding up one finger.

Old man: For four simple reasons.

Old man (2): 1. I overheard you say that you had been in fights before.

Panel 5 Same as before but the old man is holding up two fingers.

Old man: 2. The way you reacted to my attack made it seem you had been the one attacked by people.

Panel 6 Same as before but the old man is holding up three fingers.

Old man: 3. If you were an oath breakers child it would definitely explain why you were not a part of my congregation.

Panel 7 The old man looks at Link with a Cheshire grin.

Old man: And most importantly I've heard stories of the oath breaker farm boy with pink hair getting into fights with the other boys, and losing.

Page 20

Panel 1 Link grabs the old man's arm looking desperate whilst the old man laughs.

Link: Please don't tell Princess Zelda! Please! I promise to be nicer, I'll never set foot in the sanctuary again! Just don't tell Princess Zelda!

SFX Oh, ho, ho.

Panel 2 The old man rubs Links hair whilst Link looks uncomfortable and confused.

Old man: Whilst that does sound appealing it does have two small problems.

Panel 3 Shot of the old man holding up a one finger.

Old man: 1. I actually do not have a problem with you being in the sanctuary or that you're an oath breakers child.

Panel 4 Shot of Link looking confused/dumbfounded.

Link: R-really? Why?

Panel 5 The old man sits back comfortable with his open hands on his chest.

Old man: Link just because a lot of people may think something, does not mean everyone does. You can never truly know what one person thinks.

Old man (2): I for one do not understand why one person should be judged for the crimes of their relatives.

Panel 6 Link, now sitting on the bench, with his arms crossed looking sceptically.

Link: Then why wasn't I allowed into any of your services?

Panel 7 The old man looks down dejectedly. As part of the room above the old man we can see the Hyrulian royal crest hang over him.

Old man: Link, whilst I tried to guide our people with the wisdom of the goddesses, even a shepherd occasionally has to adhere to his flocks will.

Link (off): You clearly don't speak to a lot of shepherds.

Panel 8 The old manrubs his head.

Old man: Heh, you're not wrong. But I do speak to a lot of people who trust me in keeping their secrets. Which includes you Link.

Panel 9 Link lunges into the old mans chest giving him a big hug catching the old man by surprise.

Link: Thank you.

Page 21

Panel 1 Link recoils back.

Link: So, uh, what was the other problem?

Old man: …Oh yes! The other problem with your offer is that I actually quite liked your remarks. They… reminded me of my daughter.

Panel 2 The old man looks away to wipe his tears with his sleeve. Link tries to rub his back reassuringly.

Old man: SNIFF SNIFF

Link: Wh-what was she like?

Panel 3 Shot of a brunette teenage girl in a blue dress, holding the red bound book tightly, arguing with the old man in Hyrule castle.

Old man (off): Ariel… was very strong willed, stronger than I was.

Old man (off 2): She would make it clear that she didn't agree with my compromises and waste many nights arguing with me because of them.

Panel 4 Shot of the old man looking down clutching the red bound book with tears rolling down his face.

Old man: Hylia help me though cause after everything she put me through, I would still do anything just to see her again.

Link: I understand how you feel. I would often get annoyed with my uncles' positive attitude to everything.

Panel 5 Link and his uncle fishing on a sailboat far out at sea with the land far in the distance. Links uncle has a big smile on his face whilst Link can only look down dejected.

Link (narration): How he would do so when trying to compensate for everything we weren't allowed to do due being relatives of oath breakers.

Alphon: You see Link this is even better than fishing in a lake. There's lots more fish out here.

Panel 6 A young Link sat in his uncle's lap, who whilst holding a book blows air into a young Links face, who can only look dejected.

Link (narration): Even teaching me about the goddesses when this place rejected me.

Alphon: And the goddesses Nayru, Farore and Din blew the lands of Hyrule into creation like this.

Alphon (2): I'd like to see the people at the sanctuary beat this level of interactivity.

Panel 7 Shot of Link looking down with tears welling up in his eyes.

Link: But now that he's gone, I would do anything just to hear his positivity again.

Panel 8 Link and the Old man look at each bittersweetly.

Old man: I guess… all we can do is, honour their memory by remembering how they wanted us to live happier lives…

Old man (2): …And make Agahnim pay for his actions.

Link: Yeah, and as long as I have my uncle's sword, I know I can make that happen.

Panel 9 Link relaxes leaning back holding the back of his head with both hands.

Link: But we can worry about that in the morning.

Page 22

Splash panel revealing that an armada of knights now cover in front of the only gate into the sanctuary's grounds.

Link (narration): After all, Agahnim has no idea where we are.

To be continued.
