Chapter One: Changing the Directions of her Future
Bella's eyes flew open, and jumping out of bed, she was relieved to know it was a dream. She understood what had happened as she has studied Native American cultures with her mother in the past. She had been taken on a vision quest, so she would be able to change events from accruing.
She was enraged that her mate thought it was okay to play on her emotions and manipulate her to get what he wanted. His sister did it also and it wasn't going to fly this time around. Bella was actually surprised that she would have been friends with someone so perky. She didn't have the patience for someone like that. If anything, Bella would get along better with Rosalie because they were alike in temperament. Bella was indeed a bitch to people she didn't know or trust. Though, she did not feel the need to hit someone for being who they were like Rosalie had done to her own mate.
Bella didn't think she could ever challenge her mate in such a way. She may have been raised to be a strong independent woman, and that wasn't going to change, but she also loved the thought of having such a dependable mate if the need arose. And from what she saw in the vision quest, Bella knew she could have been a little more grateful for everything they got for her and did for her, but they still hadn't seemed to care about what she wanted.
And that leaving her with no thoughts or consideration for her pain, was a terrible thing to do to her. The months that followed gave her insight into her choices and they made everything harder than it needed to be. She unwittingly used Jacob to make herself feel better, and she would never knowingly do that to someone. In the vision quest, Bella should have stayed away from him, the pack, and the Elders as they thought they had the God-given right to make her choices for her.
The motorcycle didn't make sense to her, having Jacob fix them for her, because one, Phil had taught her about anything with an engine, and two, she had a motorcycle and a motorcycle license. She has been riding since she was fifteen. He had adopted Bella when she was fourteen, the year he married her mother. He was an amazing man and a wonderful father. Phil recently signed a five-year contract with the Tampa Bay Rays as a pitcher. He had purchased a blue 2004 Honda St1300. She loved it.
Her father hadn't been thrilled, but he couldn't say anything about it as she was almost eighteen and an adult. Not that it would have mattered if he approved or not, because she and her father were practically strangers. He didn't seem to feel the need to try and have a relationship with her, and Bella wasn't going to put in the effort if he wouldn't. The only thing he did for her was sending child support checks to her bank account, and he recently got her an old pickup so she could have something to drive other than her bike, but from the pictures, it was going to take a lot of work for Bella to get it up and running.
Anyway, Renee didn't know about the money Charlie had been sending her and it was going to stay like that. Bella loved her mother more than anything, but she was also very irresponsible with money, unlike Bella. She was very responsible, and she took pride in that. She was proud of being mature enough to make her own decisions even if someone didn't agree with them. Which brings her back to Emmett Cullen.
That man had a lot to learn about Isabella Marie Swan-Dwyer. The bit about him sneaking into her bedroom wasn't going to fly this time around. It was not okay that he had snuck into her bedroom without her knowing about it. It was creepy. If he wanted to visit, that was fine, but in no way was he disrespecting her like that as he had done in every other way. She couldn't believe that Emmett thought it was okay for him to have a say in the experiences she had before she changed her warm breakable body, into something beautiful and unknown. Though, it seemed like children were the issue. From what Bella gathered from the vision guest, Bella never explained to him that she could never have children after she was in a car accident when she was thirteen years old. Bella has had years to come to terms with never being able to have children.
But what Bella failed to understand was why she made a big deal out of aging. Bella wanted a few years to just be with her mate and coming family. She wanted the opportunity to attend college, and she definitely did not want to be forced to attend high school every few years. It wasn't going to happen. Bella couldn't believe the Cullens thought that was a good idea.
Damn. If they wanted to attend school, they should choose a college, and they should never attend together because that just draws attention, and with the laws they live by, that was the last thing they needed.
Bella wanted to join her mate now, but she knew that it wasn't possible quite yet. She had things to do before making the move. The first thing was having a guest house and small garage on Charlie's property with his permission because she wasn't going to be living with him if she didn't have to. She called McCarty and Whitlock Construction and gave them the job. For some reason, Bella found it comforting that her future family and mate were going to be building her personal space.
It was the summer of her seventeen birthday, and Bella knew it was time to move. She had already sent her belongings, and bike ahead of her and if Charlie knew what was good for him, he wouldn't touch her bike. She transferred her bank account to the Forks Bank just this last month, so she wouldn't have to worry about withdrawing everything and opening an account at her new Bank. Bella looked around one more time, before getting into the car and heading for the airport. Renee and Phil, both asked her if she was sure about moving -in nearly a hundred different ways- before it was time to board the plane. Each time, she choked back the tears as she smiled and reassured them that she was.
When Phil hugged Bella one last time as she stood, he whispered in her ear, "Your mother doesn't know but I put a card, checkbook, and account information in your purse. Make sure you use it, please... for our peace of mind, if nothing else. I love you, Princess. Be safe... and call us when you get to your dad's, so that we know you're alright,"
"I'll miss you, papa," she said wiping a tear from her eye before boarding the plane. It didn't seem all that long before she was landing in Port Angeles meeting Charlie at the gate. "It's good to see you, Bella," he greeted. He wasn't sure how their relationship was going to go. It couldn't get worse. Although, it was his fault. He didn't think he was good enough to be her father with everything he'd done wrong over the years. He was hoping it would improve but he doubted it. Bella was a lot like him. If she were wronged in any way, nothing short of a natural disaster would make her open up.
"Hello, Charlie," she greeted. She saw the pain in his eyes when she failed to call him dad, but that wouldn't change if he continued the way he was. She wanted things to be different, but until that time, he was still a stranger to her.
I hope everything turns out the way they're supposed to she thought as he drove to his house in Forks.
