Chapter One: The Meeting of Mates

Major Jasper Whitlock changed directions when he scented a unicorn close by. He had no desire to prove or disprove the rumors about what could happen to a vampire, let alone a person when they drank the blood of such a pure creature. It wasn't worth the risk. He had been thrown out of the Cullen coven when he snapped and killed a young woman in the town, they lived in. Truth is, he was happy to be away from that stifling coven. The only ones he would miss would be Emmett and Rose. After he was told to leave and not to come back, Jasper ventured into the magical world. It's been years since he ventured into the magical world being trapped and tethered to the non-magical world due to the Cullen coven wanting to pretend to be human. Jasper had been disgusted with them.

He was brought out of his thoughts when he scents the most amazing thing he had ever come across. It didn't make him thirsty, quite the opposite. He wanted to protect it, cherish it, bathe in it, claim it.

He came to a sudden stop when he saw this absolutely stunningly gorgeous young woman. She put vampires to shame and that was saying something. Isabella had ventured into the Dark Forest after one hell of a fifth year. Her Godfather had just been murdered by his cousin, and she had been so consumed with rage that she killed Bellatrix like she was nothing but an ant. She missed Sirius more than anything, but she couldn't deny that his death unleashed the chains that Izzy placed on herself when she entered the wizarding world.

There had been a very good reason why the Dursley family was afraid of her before she got her Hogwarts letter. She spent years of her life with complete control of her magic and used it to get back at them for the abuse they subjected her to. She looked up when she heard a twig snap and came face to face with the most handsome creature, she ever laid her eyes on. By the red eyes, she knew he was a vampire, but she didn't care. He was also the man she has been dreaming about her whole life.

"Mine," they both whispered feeling their souls join tying them to each other forever. Jasper couldn't believe that his mate was the Savior of the magical world.

Sometime later they were leaning back against the tree with Izzy between his legs, "What were you doing out here, my mate?" he sternly asked. He didn't like that his mate placed herself in danger. "My Godfather Sirius Black was just murdered. I needed to get away. Now, I miss him more than anything, but I'm also happy that I can finally take the shackles I placed on myself when I rejoined the magical world. He was what kept me from giving into my true nature, and now that he's gone, I can embrace you I am again," she explained.

Jasper could see where she was coming from, but he was also angry that she placed herself in danger. "Never come into this forest on your own again," he sternly ordered. Izzy was never one to submit to anyone, but she knew that he was the alpha of their mating. Besides, there was no one else she'd rather submit to. "I promise," she said as she leaned up and kissed him.

"What's your story, my mate?" she asked. He didn't want to tell his story, but this was his mate, if anyone deserved to know who he was, it was his beautiful mate. "Isa, my story isn't pretty, and I am ashamed of many things I've done. I was born in Texas," he began. "The year was 1843."

She sat, unmoving, as he recalled his human life up until his days as a Major in the Confederate army, then he felt her sadness and her body slouch as he told her about Maria and how she brought about his change. He closed his eyes, wishing that he could black out the images that resurfaced so vividly, as he retold the memories of his life as a newborn and then his placement as a leader in Maria's army.

He expected to feel Isa's revulsion as he divulged the killings that took place at his hand, but all he felt was her anger, her compassion, and then her understanding. He went on to tell her about his gift weighing heavily on his soul as he followed the orders of a mad woman.

They remained in the same spot with his arms holding her to him. The night grew darker as he rehashed his past. He had finally come to the part where he had found the wretched pixie in the diner in Philadelphia when Isa finally turned, sitting on her knees to face him. Her eyes welled up with tears and silent tears went down her face. Without a word, she placed the palm of her hand on his cheek. He pressed his face against her hand and closed his eyes, relishing in the comfort of her touch. She dropped her hand and pulled up the sleeve of his shirt and gasped as she looked upon the crescent marks from the teeth of the vampires that no longer held the strength for battle after their newborn phase and he was forced to end their existence. Then she slowly tugged at the hem of his shirt, pulling it up to see his chest that was covered in more scars. He pressed his lips together and turned his face from her, ashamed of the reminders that were imprinted on his hard skin for all eternity.

Then she did the one thing he never imagined that anyone would ever do – she kissed each scar, and he felt her lust for him. "I've always found scars to be sexy and alluring," she whispered against his lips when she finished kissing his scars. She wrapped her arms around his neck, her fingers tangled in his hair, and she couldn't seem to get close enough to him. As if he sensed her need or that he felt his own desire to be closer, he pulled her onto his lap, her body pressed against his chest. One of his hands came to her hair as he eagerly held her face to his; the other hand gripped her hip as if he needed it there to anchor himself.

Every nerve in her body seemed to be singing and burning with desire for this man. Her feelings were indescribable. This kiss was full of passion, a reprieve after so much tension. They were needy and their mouths were hungry as they moaned at the sensation of their tongues sweeping against each other. Then, all too quickly, he pulled away, placing one last soft kiss on her lips before touching his forehead to hers. Their eyes were closed, and their breathing was labored, taking short shallow breaths.

"What's your story, Darlin?" he asked, and she looked away from him. She wasn't ashamed of anything she did, but while hers was a choice, his was life and death. She told him everything she ever did before Hogwarts, and what happened to her during her years at Hogwarts and in the magical world. She told him everything up until Sirius was killed.

Jasper felt her emotions and she was afraid of what he'd think about her knowing that she enjoyed torturing her relatives. She need not worry, because he was proud to have such a woman as his mate. He needed someone strong. Later that night, after Jasper sent her to the castle to get some rest, he couldn't help but be incredibly grateful that he left the veggie diet and embraced who he truly was. He didn't think Isa could handle knowing he had pretended to be something he wasn't. Thankfully, he didn't have to find out.
