Season 4, Chapter 1: A Promised Duel
5 years ago, in the world of Link Vrains, a boy who was introduced into the world of dueling. Awed, inspired, he had always dreamed that one day, he will become the best duelist around the world. However...
There a blackened world that even he couldn't even see his own monsters. Earlier, he had the advantage to turn this around. He was so close to defeating his opponent. But his opponent, merely laughed at how hopeless he was. This guy... he was beyond terrifying. He somehow got escaped defeat even though he shouldn't be able to respond to his monster's attack. And now, it's time for him to draw down the curtains.
"Battle! My monster attacks you directly!"
Despair took over him. And slowly, as his Life reaches 0, his existence was taken away from him. He may never be heard again...
3 months later... (A/N: After Ai's rebellion)
Now it's the year of 2019. Sota has just finished school for the day. As he looked at the date on his watch, he realized that today is the day where he could finally duel against his best friend, Akechi. Excited, he dashed out to meet his rival. Today is the day that he will challenge against him for their very first duel. Despite having never dueled before, they spent months learning how to duel and it's complex mechanics before building their very own decks. And with their pride on the line, they will prove to each other that they are better than the other.
"Ha! With my deck and with some practice, I will show you that I'll beat you on my very first game!" The boy in multiple shades of blue of his hair, Sota, declared.
"There is no way that you will beat me! I have taken strategies from Playmaker to defeat you!" His red-haired rival, Akechi boasted.
"Really, then bring it on!"
"Duel!" Both boys screamed, as they opened their duel disks.
Sota vs Akechi:
Turn 1: Sota
"I start first! I activate Thunder Dragon from my hand! I discard it to add 2 copies of it to my hand!" Sota revealed a green dragon from his hand, before applying Thunder Dragon's effect.
"Thunder Dragon... That's a very old card. That card is great for thinning cards in the player's deck. But knowing that card, he will..."
"Then I activate Polymerization! I fuse the other 2 Thunder Dragons in my hand to Fusion Summon Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon! (2800/2100)" Sota summoned the Fusion Monster in Attack Position.
"I knew it...!" This was exactly what Akechi had thought. This strategy is not new. In fact, many new duelists would have done the same too if they were using Thunder Dragon. But knowing how dueling had evolved from 20 years ago, this strategy will not be enough to defeat him.
"I activate Thunder Dragondark's effect from the hand, like with Thunder Dragon, I discard it to add a copy of it to my hand! I set 2 cards and end my turn!" Two face down cards appeared behind his monster.
"Thunder Dragondark. This looks like a Thunder Dragon deck since archetypes tend to place it's name first before their actual names" Akechi analyzed before drawing a card from his deck.
Turn 2: Akechi
"I activate Unexpected Dai! It allows me to-"
"I chain with Thunder Dragondark's effect! This effect is a quick effect!" Sota interrupted as he discarded Dragondark to add his last copy to his hand.
"At least let me finish explaining my card's effect before you chain!" Akechi was annoyed before continuing to explain his effect. "Unexpected Dai allows me to special summon 1 level 4 or lower normal monster from my deck since I control no monsters. I summon Crowned by the World Chalice (0/2100)."
"For a level 2 monster, she has too much defence points..." Sota sweat dropped.
Akechi raised his fist has he started chanting. "Come forth! The circuit that connects to the Stars!" A link portal appears below Akechi.
"The summoning conditions is one normal monster. I set Crowned into the Link Marker! The Dragon shall be granted by the power of World Chalice to gain a great power! Link Summon! Link 1! Imduk the World Chalice Dragon! (800)" Akechi's Link monster was summoned into his left Extra Monster Zone.
"This is only the beginning! Imduk allows me for an extra normal summon of a World Chalice Monster. I tribute Imduk to tribute summon one of the Seven World Legacies! Come forth World Legacy- "World Chalice" (0/0). Imduk's effect: If this card is sent from the field to GY, I special summon Chosen by the World Chalice (1600/0) from my hand!"
"Oh my god... this really sounds like you really just copied Playmaker's strategy..." Sota sweatdropped. He had learnt how to duel together with Akechi and he was most familar with Link Summoning. Still... Akechi seems to be going overboard...
"It isn't! My strategy is similar to his but my deck is different from his. Come again, the circuit that connects to the stars! I use Chosen and World Chalice to Link summon! The Chosen shall be granted by the power of World Chalice to save this world! Link 2! Auram the World Chalice Blademaster (2000)! The normal summoned World Chalice effect! Since it left the field, Lee the World Chalice Fairy (100/2000) and World Chalice Guardragon (400/400) from my deck. Lee's effect allows me to add Beckoned by the World Chalice to hand. Since World Chalice is in my GY, Auram's effect gains 300 ATK for every different World Legacy monster in my GY (Auram ATK: 2000 - 2300). Then I use Lee and Guardragon to Link Summon again! The Inheritor of the key shall be granted by the power of World Chalice to unite the 7 World Legacies! Link Summon! Link 2! Ib the World Chalice Priestess! (1800)"
"With such a long winded strategy, wouldn't you just run of breath just by declaring every move you make?" Sota jokingly commented.
Ignoring Sota, Akechi continued "Guardragon's effect activates by banishing itself to summon Crowned from the GY. I now Normal Summon Beckoned (1800/0) and Link summon with Becokened and Crowned! The original inheritor of the key shall make it her own mission to seal the World Key to prevent the battle of power of God! Link Summon! Link 2! Lib the World Key Blademaster (2000)! I activate Lib's effect, I set World Legacy Succession from my deck to the field. Normally I cannot activate it for the rest of the turn but since a World Legacy Monster is in my GY, I can activate it right now! I revive Imduk to Auram's down-left arrow. I use Imduk and Link 2 Lib to link summon! The Warrior shall be granted by the power of World Chalice to become a mighty force! Link Summon! Link 3! Ningirsu the World Chalice Warrior (2500)! Ningrisu's effect activates on summon while I chain Lib and Imduk. With Imduk's effect I summon another Chosen to Ningrisu's left link arrow. Then the Link summoned Lib's effect sends one of your set cards to the deck since it's used as a Link Material. Lastly, Ningrisu's link arrows are pointed to Auram, Chosen and Ib. This means I draw 3 cards!"
"Crap! Not Thunder Dragon Discharge!" Sota widened his eyes in disbelief. While he didn't announced it out loud, he needed it for the next turn to start his combo.
"Ningrisu's effect! I send Chosen and your other set card to the Grave!" Ningrisu's spear brightened in blue as Chosen vanished in particles. Ningrisu then threw his spear at the set card. But before it lands, Sota makes his move.
"I activate Thunder Dragon's Hundred Thunders! I Special Summon Thunder Dragon (1600/1500) from my Grave. And then I can Special Summon many copies of it from the GY as well. I summon all 3 in defence position." The card revealed itself, emerging 3 Thunder Dragons before the spear landed at Hundered Thunders.
"Well, at least your bothersome set cards won't be in my way! All of my monsters attacks your Thunder Dragons!" The World Chalice trio charges against all 3 of Sota's thunder dragon monsters. Ib waved a spell at a Thunder Dragon, Auram slashed at the Second and Ningrisu stabbed the last one. This destroys all the Thunder Dragons. Due to the effect of Hundred Thunders, they all are banished when they leave the field. Akechi sets his card before passing his turn over.
Turn 3: Sota
"I draw! I activate Thunder Dragon Fusion! (A/N: Unless otherwise stated or is first used in the duel, from next time this card is mentioned, it'll be referred as Fusion instead. This is because I will be using that card very often.) I shuffle the 3 banished Thunder Dragons to Fusion Summon! Heavenly Dragons of the Sky, join together and become the ultimate dragon of destruction! Fusion Summon! Level 10! Thunder Dragon Titan!" The triple headed dragon appears.
"Behold! This is my ace monster! One that will bring me victory to this duel!" Sota declared outright as Titan roared. "I attack Ningirsu with Titan! Triple Thunder Burst!" Titan blew his breath at Ningrisu, destroying him (Akechi: 4000 - 3300). "Then Twin-Headed attacks Ib! (Akechi: 3300 - 2300). I end my turn"
Turn 4: Akechi
"That was a powerful Fusion card you have. But you will come to realize that a single card will not be enough to defeat me!" Akechi commented before drawing.
"I summon Knightmare Corruptor Iblee (0/0) and activate it's effect, when normal summoned, I summon Ib in such a way that Ib points to Iblee." Ib was summoned. However, Ib looked very tired because her ATK is reduced to 0 with its effects negated.
"Knightmare? I thought you are using a World Chalice deck!"
"Surprised? Ha! I play the World Legacy Deck, not just World Chalice. The World Legacy is a story of-"
"Get back to the duel, I'm not interested in hearing it's story right now."
"I use Auram and Iblee to Link summon Knight Unicorn (2200) and activate Unicorn's effect, I shuffle Titan to the extra deck by discarding a card from hand and then drawing a card since this card is co-linked with Ib." Unicorn charged through Titan, which Titan vanished in particles. "Oh, and in case I forget, since Iblee with my control is sent to the GY, I summon her into your field in defence position" Iblee appeared onto Sota's field, smiling maliciously at him. "World Chalice activates from GY, banishing it to add World Legacy- "World Lance" to my hand. Then I activate my set card World Legacy Landmark! I banish World Armor from my hand to summon Chosen and Beckoned. Then I link summon using Chosen, Beckoned and Link 2 Ib! Link 4! Knightmare Gryphon (2500)! Battle! Gryphon attacks Twin-Headed!"
"You are attacking a monster with a lower attack?"
"Obviously, I wouldn't have done that without a plan! I activate World Lance from my hand, since a battle involving a Link Monster is declared, I can discard it, your monster loses 3000 ATK"
"What?"
World Lance manifested from its card. It launches itself into Twin-headed, with the latter crying out in pain as its ATK is reduced to 0 (Twin Headed ATK: 2800 - 0). Gryphon with it's claws slashed through Twin-headed, destroying it. (Sota: 4000 - 1500).
"I end the battle phase and enter Main Phase 2 by activating World Legacy's Nightmare and World Legacy's Corruption. I set a card and end my turn" Sota looked at the field in confusion. Why did Akechi not attack Iblee?
Turn 5: Sota
"It's not looking good for me, but I have a comeback! I draw!" Sota looks at his card before making his move.
"I activate Fusion from my GY, banishing it to add Thunder Dragonroar. Then Dragonroar's effect activates, discarding it to add Fusion back to my hand."
"I can see what you are doing here. But due to Iblee's effect, you cannot special summon monsters besides Link monsters. So you cannot activate Fusion." Sota widened his eyes. So that's why he left Iblee on his field. To stop him from summoning his monsters. But that's not going to hinder him much.
"But I can do this! I Normal Summon Dragonmatrix (0/2000) and then... I use Dragonatrix and Iblee as Link material to Link Summon Cross-Sheep (700)! Dragonmatrix's effect, since its sent from the field to GY, I can add another copy of it to my hand. Now that Iblee is gone, I can activate Fusion! Shuffling Dragonroar, dragondark and Twin-headed from GY to Fusion Summon Titan (3200/3200) in Cross-sheep's down-right link marker. And then I activate Cross-Sheep's effect! Since-"
"You cannot! Since Cross-Sheep is not Co-Linked, Cross-sheep cannot activate it's effect due to Gryphon's effect!"
"Then I'll destroy it! Titan attacks Gryphon! Triple Thunder Burst!" Titan once again shoots its breath at Gryphon, destroying it.
"Due to the effect of Nightmare, I cannot take any battle damage since Gryphon was co-linked. Then Corruption's effect, since the face-up monster Gryphon is destroyed, I summon World Legacy - "World Shield" from my deck."
"I activate activate Dragondark's effect and chain with Titan! I can activate Titan's effect when a Thunder Monster's effect is activated from the hand. I destroy Unicorn! Heavenly Thunder's Punishment!" Titan shot it's breath at Unicorn.
"I activate World Legacy Awakens. I can Link Summon right now! Come forth! The circuit that connects to the stars! Summoning Conditions are at least 2 Effect Monsters! I use Link 3 Unicorn and World Armor to Link Summon!" Unicorn and World Armor turned into particles which created link Markers of Up, Down, Left and Right.
"Seize the wind that connects to the unseen world! Link Summon! Link 4 Accesscode Talker (2300)!" Because Unicorn left the field, Titan's attack missed. Blasting into the middle of nowhere. Sota then resolves Dragondark's effect by adding a copy of Dragondark to his hand.
"That card... it looks like it's..."
"Playmaker's card. I had found it lost in Link Vrains. It looked like someone dropped it. Honestly, you might be right if it was his card, seeing that he uses the Code Talkers archetype. But let's get back to the duel. Accesscode's effect, when Link Summoned, I target Link 3 Unicorn and Accesscode gains 1000 ATK per Link Arrow! (Accesscode Talker ATK: 2300 - 5300)"
"5300 ATK? I better brace myself for what's coming then... I end my turn."
Turn 6: Akechi
"It seems that you are out of moves now. But just in case you have something, I activate Accesscode's effect, I can banish a Link Monster from my GY to destroy a card you control, I can activate this card multiple times but I cannot banish the same attribute this turn. I banish the FIRE attribute Auram to destroy Titan"
"I can-"
"You cannot! You cannot activate card effects in response to Accesscode's effect! Now go! Access Integration!" Accesscode's Spear charges itself with red aura. Then Accesscode throws its spear at Titan.
"This is not an activated effect! I banish Polymerization and Hundred Thunders to negate Titan's destruction" Polymerization and Hundred Thunders appeared in front of Titan, dissolving themselves into particles as these particles formed a barrier for Titan to block Accesscode's spear.
"Nice move. But it's futile! I-"
"Before you activate Accesscode again, I'll activate Dragonmatrix's effect and then chain with Titan! I destroy Accesscode Talker! Heavenly Thunder's Punishment!" Titan makes it's attack at Accesscode. Accesscode takes the blast and explodes. "Also, with Dragonmatrix's effect, Titan gains 500 ATK! (Titan ATK: 3200 - 3700)"
"Damn, in that case, I activate Monster Reborn! Be revived Ningirsu! (2500)" Ningirsu returns to battle.
"I activate Ningirsu's effect to send Nightmare and Titan to GY!" In truth, Akechi could have revived Accesscode. But Accesscode's ATK will have its original ATK instead of 5300. And besides, Ningirsu is the only Monster he could use to remove Titan from the field because Titan can protect itself from being destroyed by card effects. If he removes Titan now, he can declare an attack on Cross-Sheep with Ningirsu uninterrupted.
"Titan is going to take Ningirsu with you! I chain with Dragondark and Titan's effect, destroying Ningrisu! Heavenly Thunder's Punishment!" Titan launches it's breath at Ningirsu, Ningirsu ignores the attack directly at him as he charged forward against Titan, stabbing Titan. Both monsters exploded as they were no longer on the field.
"You have no cards left to play against me! End your turn!"
"... I end my turn." Akechi conceded to giving Sota his turn. While he destroyed Ningrisu, Titan is finally gone. With Cross-sheep's direct attack on him, he can still survive with 1500 LP. He still has a chance to win.
Turn 7: Sota
"My turn! Draw! I activate Fusion from my GY, adding Dragonroar and then discard it to add Fusion back to my hand! I activate Fusion, shuffling Dragonmatrix, Dragonroar and Titan!"
"These materials...! Don't tell me...!" Titan's fusion Materials was 3 Thunder Dragon Monsters. To be able to use these monsters as fusion materials could very well mean that-
"That's right! I have multiple copies of Titan in my Extra Deck! Come back to me! Thunder Dragon Titan!" Titan returns, roaring at the battlefield.
"Now I attack you directly! Triple Thunder Burst!" Titan shoots it's breath at Akechi. Akechi then falls back. (Akechi: 2300 - 0)
Sota wins!
"Congratulations Sota, you win... But I didn't summon my true ace monster yet." Akechi commented at his defeat.
"Oh come on, you used Accesscode. That sounds like an ace monster to me."
"The next time we duel, I'll win for sure." Akechi promised for a challenge against Sota. Akechi had only used 2/7th of his deck's power. Had he used more World Legacy cards against him, Sota will not stand a chance.
"Whatever! Loser has to pay for dinner!"
Sota and Akechi continued their day ahead, enjoying their moments, because soon, they will witness a tragedy that has happened to the other.
A/N: Welcome to my Yugioh Vrains Fanfic! That's right, it's me! Unknowedz! (You can call me Unknowed if you want) Honestly, when I first created this account, I was mostly inside Yugioh Arc V and Vrains fanfiction website. You might have noticed me in the past years in reviews for several fanfics. I never had the courage to write a story at all. Not just that but I don't think I can have enough time to make one. However, last year, I started to write fanfics on my own because I had time to spare.
In this story, Sota is the main protagonist of this fanfic. I had him use Thunder Dragons just simply because I main that deck for a long time (and even up till now in Master Duel). If it isn't obvious, Akechi takes a rival role of Sota just like any other YGO rivals. And he uses World Legacy deck. Part of the reason I had use that is because of a certain character from a certain fanfic I read. Another reason why I used his deck is because the story line. Like come on, who doesn't like the World Legacy story line?
Duel Notes are in a seperate fic because I don't want it to cramp up the space.
What do you think of this chapter? I am quite aware that Accesscode Talker isn't supposed to be with Akechi and is with Playmaker instead. But future chapters will explain how Akechi got Accesscode Talker. This is my first Yu-Gi-Oh! fanfic and I need some comments to know how should I improve my story if any. Suggestions are welcome!
