Steven decides to return to Beach City for a visit, but something isn't right. All Gem life has gone missing except for Black Rutile, who places the blame on the gladiatorial civilization of the planet Serpentes and its royal family. When Steven is forced into a gladiator death match by the king of the Snake People, he'll learn there's more to these reptiles than meets the eye.

Back on Earth, Steven and the gems are having a cookout in celebration. Finally they're done! The corrupted gems are healed, the Diamonds are going to put a stop to their colonization and dictatorship. From now on everything will be better. Peaceful. Except it's not. A new threat takes the place of the corrupted gems, and it's first target is the one closest to the waters edge.
