Chapter 4
Izuku had to blink a few times as the fact that this man, who looked to be one of Rebecca-san's comrades, was now pointing a gun at his face and threatening him. A part of the greenet had to fight his knee-jerk response to reach out at high speed to rip the weapon from the man's hand before they could even react with [Black Whip]. Realizing that the man's countdown had already reached four, Izuku rushed to answer the unknown man's question as fast as possible.
"Wait, wait, wait!" waving his hands wildly to try and calm the man down, Izuku gave a large sigh of relief when the man stopped his countdown and gestured with his head for Izuku to continue. Steeling himself for a moment, Izuku answered to the best of his ability.
"My name is Izuku Midoriya, Rebecca-san found and rescued me from an underground facility that was at the edge of the mansions' property. I don't know too much about what is going on considering that I have been in a medically induced coma since I was captured by the people that run this place around four years ago. After we left the facility, both Rebecca-san and I attempted to search the mansion for the rest of her team. Unfortunately, Rebecca-san began to suffer from extreme exhaustion due to the events she experienced last night, so we decided to find an open room to rest until she was able to recover." The officer stared wide-eyed at the explanation of this young man in front of him that only seemed to be a bit older than Rebecca herself. Seeming to debate with himself for a time, the officer lowered his weapon before holstering it. Standing straight, the officer walked up to Izuku and reached down to help the young man to his feet while giving him a sheepish grin.
"Uh, sorry about the third degree man, my name is Richard Aiken, member of S.T.A.R.S Bravo Team and communications expert." Izuku retuned the man, Richard's, grin and grasped his hand before he was lifted to his feet. While the two were taking measure of each other, to the side Rebecca began to stir from her troubled sleep. Sitting up and trying to clear the fogginess from her mind, the brunet medic looked around the room for her new friend to make sure he was okay, only to find one of his teammates standing with said friend. Smiling in excitement at seeing one of her comrades safe after the time she had had, Rebecca quickly made to get off the bed while calling out.
"Richard! You're okay!" Rebecca was quick to her feet as she gave the man a quick hug of relief, taking a step back she then began to question Richard. "Richard, have you seen any of the others since the helicopter?" Rebecca's eyes became downcast as she remembered something, "I-I know that Dooley didn't make it out of the chopper, while Dewey became one of the monsters after he was mauled by those dogs…" The young woman's voice petered out. Izuku worried for his savior and new friend reached out and placed his scarred hand on the medic's shoulder getting her to look up into his worried emerald, green eyes. Reaching up to Izuku's hand, Rebecca gave the limb a gentle squeeze in thanks before continuing.
Rebecca then began to recount what had happened while she had been separated from the rest of her team, what she had discovered and the creatures she had fought. Richard had been surprised how Rebecca spoke of how she had seen their Captain, Enrico, in another underground facility. Then came the anger as Rebecca explained the information she had learned, both from the abandoned facility and the madman that had turned himself into a monster for revenge. When Rebecca finally finished her story by corroborating what Izuku had told Richard before she woke up, said man could only rub his eyes as the realization of just how fucked this situation had become. Taking a deep breath, Richard recollected himself and looked to the two young adults before speaking.
"Alright, so here is the plan-" Izuku and Rebecca both perked up and looked to the older man, "-we are going to search the area for the rest of the team. When we find them, we will explain your findings to Enrico, then gather what evidence we can so we can bring down the bastards responsible for this entire nightmare." Getting nods of acceptance from the two, Richard continued, "Also we will be on the lookout for any communication equipment that I can use to contact Alpha Team for backup." As the two were listening to Richards words, a memory suddenly hit Rebecca about something Marcus had said before he attacked her and Billy, before Richard could turn to leave the room he was stopped by Rebecca calling out to him.
"Wait Richard… there was something I just remembered." Turning back to look at her, Richard raised an eyebrow in question, Izuku standing beside her looked concerned for a moment. "When I was in the executive facility, the man who caused the outbreak there said something odd when I confronted him… He mentioned that Spencer had two students named Birkin and… Wesker." While Izuku was confused on what that could mean, Richard was wide eyed at what his teammate was saying. After a moment, Richard's eyes narrowed and locked eyes with Rebecca, seeming to search for something.
"That is a very severe accusation you are insinuating Rebecca… how sure you can be that the man was just speaking out his ass or something?" Rebecca didn't even blink at the response she had received for the information and understood the reasoning. Captain Wesker was considered one of the most decorated members of the S.T.A.R.S Alpha Team who had many achievements under his belt. If what she was insinuating was true… Then that meant that their group was in deeper shit than they thought. Nevertheless Rebecca wasted no time responding to the question.
"The guy had no reason to lie to me, the thing that had taken Marcus's shape was under the assumption that this 'Wesker' was part of the science teams for Umbrella, and if what I found in the records in his office were true then Marcus had been dead for almost eight years, just before our Wesker became the head of our teams. I'm not accusing the guy directly… I just think we should be careful who we tell for now."
Izuku who had been listening to the side felt a twinge at the idea that this groups leader could be a traitor. Memories of one of his classmates, Yuga Aoyama, who had been a traitor working for All For One under duress due to receiving a quirk from the man. Yuga had eventually lost his mind from a combination of guilt at what they had gone through and grief when his parents had been killed in retaliation for his capture by Toru Hagakure. In the end the young man had been killed by a group of Nomu when he attempted to get revenge on All For One. Shaking away the memories, Izuku looked back at the two S.T.A.R.S members who were staring at him in a mixture of worry and wariness. Seeing that the greenet had come back from wherever his mind had taken him, Rebecca called out with worry in her tone.
"Izuku, are you okay? You seemed to be lost in thought for a moment there and had blanked out…" Giving the two a sad smile that sent a twinge of worry though the young woman and a sad understanding through the older man, Izuku only shook his head and stated that he was fine before they went to begin their search of the mansion.
-Line Break-
The trio of survivors had been searching around the mansion property for a few hours at this point. While at first the group was disconcerted by the severe lack of any sort of activity, as compared to the sheer pants shitting panic-fest that had been the previous twenty-four hours for the S.T.A.R.S members. Izuku and Rebecca were surprised to find out that the place they had thought was the main Spencer Estate, was just an offshoot housing area for the in house staff. From what Richard had explained, from both his observations and the rest of the team he had met up with earlier the day before, the estate was huge and built like a giant puzzle maze. Both Izuku and Rebecca had thought to themselves wondering what kind of delusional, megalomaniacal, and more than likely paranoid fruit loop the guy that had this place built would have been.
As the search continued the group was worried that they would not find anyone, or they would run into something that they couldn't handle. This was more and more apparent when one of the halls the trio was searching became filled with spiderwebs large enough to catch a full grown bull if not a person. With a shiver, Rebecca suggested that they go another way, not that either of the two others argued with her. It was on their way to one of the other paths that the group of three experienced their first encounter with the not-so-friendly residents of the mansion.
Rebecca had been walking ahead of the group when suddenly a form lunged from around a blind corner. Before either Rebecca or Richard could react, there was a sudden flash of green light and Izuku was there holding the struggling form of one of the infected by the throat off the ground. Richard could only look on in shock at the speed and power this young man had just shown, and was still showing, with arcs of jagged green energy running up and down his body. Rebecca could only look on in awe at her new friend and now savior, knowing that she likely would have been caught and infected before Richard could help. Izuku was now staring into the dead, milky white eyes of the abomination that he was holding back with barely five percent of his newly improved quirk. Unconsciously, Izuku flexed his other hand, tendrils of black energy wrapping around his arm creating a clawed gauntlet that seemed to absorb the light in the room. With barely a thought, Izuku then lashed out and with a single swipe decapitated the undead before tossing the body down the hall it came from.
A look of confusion flitted across Izuku's face at what he had just done, bringing up his gauntlet-clad hand to his face, Izuku was in awe of the change in Banjo's quirk. While Izuku had used [Black Whip] as limbs before, they had always been more like elastic tendrils. Izuku had never been able to make the energy pierce anything before, this was likely one of the changes brought on by the viruses Birkin had infected him with. Deciding to put this off for later, Izuku willed the gauntlet to disperse and turned to his flabbergasted teammates, well one flabbergasted teammate. Richard was in openmouthed shock at what he had just witnessed, not understanding how it was possible that someone with abilities straight out of a comic book had ended up here. Rebecca on the other hand looked to have a shine in her eyes that Izuku recognized from his times with both Mei Hatsume and Mellissa Shield when they saw something they wanted to research.
Another pang of hurt ran through Izuku at the memories of his two favorite support mechanics… Izuku hadn't even realized that he was crying until he felt Rebecca place her hand on his cheek to wipe one of the tears. Off to the side, Richard was now looking at the young man in worry, wondering what could have set off the mysterious enigma. Seeing that Izuku was focused again, Rebecca spoke with a calm and soothing voice, realizing that Izuku was likely suffering some type of PTSD or extreme grief.
"Izuku, are you okay? This is the second time that you have frozen now… can you please tell me what's going on? I only want to help you… if you'll let me." Rebecca had to fight back a flinch at the look that came over Izuku when she offered to hear him out. His eyes seemed to dim from their nearly glowing emerald, to a dull green, near black. More tears began to flow from his eyes as Izuku gave Rebecca a short nod. Before anything could be said, Richard gave a polite cough and let the duo know that he would continue the search while they had their talk and if they needed him, or vise versa, he would be back. Giving him a thankful nod, Rebecca turned back to Izuku who seemed to be fighting back his tears. A few minutes passed before Izuku and Rebecca sat against one of the walls, the young man reassuring her that he would be able to sense anyone or thing approaching them. With a tired sigh, that Izuku was sure was only the first of many to come this day, he began his story.
"You need to understand Rebecca, I am not from here-" He turned to look into the woman's brown eyes, "and I don't just mean this country. No I came from a world just like this one, but there was no Umbrella or S.T.A.R.S. No instead the world I came from instead had powers called Quirks." Raising an eyebrow at the odd name, Izuku only gave her a small smile and continued his world's origin.
"In the early parts of my earth's twenty-first century, abilities began to manifest within the population. These abilities were many and varied, they could be as simple as just changing your hair or eye color, or as powerful as changing the weather with a simple punch, creating anything from lipids, and creating explosions via special sweat glands." Rebecca was completely hooked at what she was hearing, If Izuku was telling the truth then his world was literally a comic book, 'Though if there were heroes…' Before she could finish that thought, Izuku continued his tale.
"In the early days of quirks, when they were known as 'Meta Abilities,' there was a man…" The look on Izuku's face was now grim, "This man had what was probably the strongest ability in all of the world. This man had the ability to take and give quirks to anyone he desired." Izuku's eyes were now narrowed and glowing in rage and hate, "His name… was All For One." Hearing the name, Rebecca shivered at the pure hatred that seemed to roll off the young man beside her. The medic could admit that this All For One's ability sounded terrifying, to be able to take from and choose who had power, how could you beat that. Also Rebecca was sure that this man was just as easily able to use what he had taken for himself. Rebecca was drawn from the rabbit hole of the possibilities of someone as powerful as this man was as Izuku continued the story again.
"Unknown to all but a few in my world, was that All For One had a brother. Unlike his brother this man was weaker than most and was almost constantly sick, the biggest difference between them though… he wanted to be a hero." Rebecca's eyes widened again as Izuku continued, "And All For One was not pleased when his weaker younger brother tried to berate him and call him a villain. So in a moment of pettiness or kindness, no one is sure. All For One forced a quirk on his younger brother, a simple stockpile quirk, not strong on its own but not without potential." Izuku's hands began to tighten into fists as his story continued.
"Even after receiving this quirk, the younger brother still stood against All For One, who in a bout of rage, locked his brother away so as to keep him out of the way. The younger brother spent the next few years of his life locked away while his older brother continued his conquest of all Japan with a combination of his multiple quirks and his allies. It was by pure happenstance that one day two members of the resistance group would break into one of All For One's most guarded facilities believing it to be a supply depot, only to find the frail form of the younger brother. The younger brother, appalled by what a monster his elder brother had become, begged the two to take him with them to help fight All For One. The younger brother using the meager boost supplied by his new quirk tried his hardest to fight the mastermind villain, but it was all for naught. No matter how hard the brother tried, All For One was just to strong, and only grew stronger as time passed due to him collecting more and more quirks." Rebecca at this point was completely engrossed in Izuku's story and tried to keep as quiet as possible so as not to interrupt him.
"There was however something neither brother expected, unknown to either All For One or his brother at the time, the younger brother did in fact have a quirk." Rebecca's eyes widened at the twist in the story, "By itself, the quirk was not powerful, only being the power to pass down his own quirk to another. Like I said, not powerful by itself, but combined with the [Power Stockpile] that All For One had forced on him… The younger brother made the choice that if he wasn't strong enough, then he would pass down his quirk for the next to build up the strength necessary to finally defeat his former brother once and for all. When he finally chose his successor, who was one of the ones who had freed him, he gave the now combined quirk a new name… A name to show its opposition to his brother's All For One, this was the day of the birth of One For All." A derisive chuckle came from Izuku surprising and confusing Rebecca as he continued.
"Of course it wasn't that easy, by the time that One For All had finally gained enough strength to stand up to All For One, nearly two hundred years had passed with the quirk being transferred a total of seven times making eight holders." Izuku's countenance darkened again then said something that brought shivers down Rebecca's spine. "Of all the successors to the quirk, only one hadn't died at the hands of All For One up until the eighth… the eighth holder of One For All, also the one who held it the longest was known to the entire world as the Symbol of Peace, the Number One Hero; All Might." A light now filled Izuku's eyes as he seemed to reminisce on better days.
Izuku then went on to tell Rebecca about all of the major milestones of his personal hero. The young man then explained his 'final' battle with All For One where All Might had believed he had finished off the ancient villain. Izuku finally began to explain his part in the story, he explained how by the time of his birth the number of people with quirks had exceeded eighty percent of the total population. How when he was four years old he had been diagnosed as 'quirkless' due to having a double toe joint in his foots pinkie toe. Seeing the dumbstruck look on Rebecca's face, Izuku could only nod and agree that the methodology of his doctor was less than thorough, though looking back at who his doctor was… Izuku was more than sure that Ujiko had likely orchestrated the whole 'diagnosis' to hide the theft of Izuku's original quirk.
That news had been one of the final barbs launched at Izuku by the doctor when they had finally caught him, how Izuku was originally in possession of a powerful combination of pyro and telekinesis. Of course, the distraction hadn't worked at the time due to Izuku's classmates jumping the man while Izuku processed the information. Hell if Detective Tsukauchi hadn't been onsite to confirm that the mad man had been telling the truth, Izuku wouldn't have given the info any consideration. Shaking himself from his thoughts again, Izuku continued his story, though the tone was a somber one.
Izuku gave a brief overview of his years being considered quirkless, the bullying from his fellow students including his former best friend, the abuse he suffered under his elementary and middle school teachers for being different, for daring to aspire to be a hero with no power of his own, culminating in the day that Bakugo had told him to jump off a roof to hopefully get a quirk in his next life. Then came the day he met All Might after being attacked by the Sludge Villain, how in a moment of desperation, Izuku grabbed onto All Might's leg as he went to leap away. How after revealing his secret to the frazzled Izuku, All Might almost shattered the boy by telling him that he couldn't be a hero without a quirk and leaving the boy on a rooftop. Rebecca had to hold back a gasp of shock at how irresponsible the hero had been to leave an obviously emotionally damaged young man like that.
Izuku's story then began to change for the better as he explained how he had ended up saving Bakugo from the escaped Sludge Villain, only to be saved by All Might once again. Then he described how All might had chosen him as his future successor. Choosing to skip over the training he had done, Izuku only said that he was eventually able to earn his mentor's quirk and had gotten into the most prestigious school in Japan for heroics; U.A. High School. Izuku also chose to gloss over the events that led up to his arriving in this world only saying that he was eventually able to stop All For One and his protégé Shigaraki by killing them.
By the time Izuku had finished his story, around two hours had passed without them noticing. Both young adults noticing and worrying about what may have happened to Richard, got up from their spot and began to search for the Bravo Team member. As the light of day slowly disappeared, the lights in the mansion began to light up, startling Rebecca and putting Izuku on edge. Walking further into the mansion's maze like interior, Izuku and Rebecca began to come across the remains of more zombies, most sporting various levels of damage. Discerning that Richard had likely gone this way, the two began searching in the rooms before eventually coming to an open door. Cautiously looking inside, the two were relieved to find Richard standing and looking around the library for something. Calling out to the older man, Richard looked up and waved over the two and called out in greeting.
"Hey there lovebirds, did you two finish your little heart to heart?" Richard's words brought both young adults up short and a light blush appeared on Rebecca's face, while Izuku lit up like a Christmas tree ornament. Walking up to the smirking man, Rebecca reached and smacked Richard upside the head.
"I-it was nothing like that!" Giving a huff and looking back at the still chuckling older man Rebecca spoke again. "Anyways, what were you able to find so far?" Suddenly getting serious, Richard reached into his tactical vest and pulled out a small journal, as well as two keys.
"To be honest, I didn't find to much… between the blocked or locked doors, as well as the random corpses trying to jump out of blind corners to ambush me, I had only been able to find this journal and two keys." Handing the journal to Rebecca, Richard continued, "From what I could understand from the journal, This place was a sort of housing/entrance to another facility somewhere on the property for some of the more volatile experiments Umbrella was running that couldn't be moved to a newer facility, the location of which wasn't mentioned." While Rebecca began to read the journal to see if there was anymore information that could be gleaned from it, Richard then turned to Izuku to continue the explanation while holding up the keys again.
"From what I found so far, there are a series of special paired locks and keys, similar to the system used in the Raccoon City Police Department. In fact, I was only able to get into this library after picking up this key-" Richard took one of the keys, bearing a snarling wolfs head and handed it to Izuku, "from the body of one of the former residents." Izuku looked over the key, seeing that it was a gaudy piece of work that looked to be plated in brass while the wolf head was made from black marble. Shaking his head at how cliche villains could be, even in another world. After he had finished inspecting the key, Izuku tried to hand the key back to Richard, only to be stopped by a raised hand.
"No Izuku, I think you should hold onto that key, in fact…" Richard then proceeded to hand Izuku the other key, much to the young man's confusion. Seeing the look on the greenet's face, Richard just gave Izuku a smile and waved off his look.
"Heh, don't worry about it Izuku, I just think that those keys will be safer with you than me… call it instinct." Rather than trying to argue about it, Izuku just shook his head at the odd older man and proceeded to take the keys and place them in one of the pouches on his belt. The two were suddenly startled by the sound of Rebecca gasping in surprise, Richard and Izuku quickly made their way over to the genius medic to see what had caught the young woman's attention. Looking up from the Journal, Rebecca was about to call out to the others, only to find both men there already. Wasting no time, Rebecca began to tell the others of what she found in the journal.
"Alright, from what I could find in this, the journal belonged to one of the scientists that lived here." Seeing the two men nod, Rebecca continued, "In his notes, the scientist explains some of the major experiments he was part of, mostly having to do with animal testing with what he dubs the T-Virus. Most of the observations he mentions state that anything that came into contact with the virus would have one of two reactions; one they would lose all sense and become hyper aggressive and extremely hard to kill, two they would mutate, usually growing in size and developing odd, often deadly additions." Richard's eyes widened in realization that what they had come across so far was the result of only one of Umbrella's viral weapons. Izuku's fist was clenching so hard his knuckles were popping from the force, memories of the Nomu as well as Humarise. Rebecca, while noticing the reactions of her two partners, continued with her discoveries.
"But that isn't all though…" This seemed to knock the two from their respective thoughts as they turned back to her. In the last few entries of the journal, the man mentions that there was a leak in one of the labs that forced the entire facility to shut down and go into lock down. In the last entry the scientist mentioned that this was all likely a form of sabotage… it ended with the man's realization that he was infected and his mental breakdown…" Even though the trio knew that the owner of the journal as well as the rest of the people in these facilities were responsible for horrible things, didn't mean that they thought the people here deserved to become flesh eating walking corpses. After a moment of silence, Richard cleared his throat catching the attention of the two younger group members.
"Well as shitty as this situation is, I think we should continue our search, if I know Alpha Team, then likely they will be in the air and on their way here to back us up, so I think its in our best interests to try and secure as much of the mansion we can before they eventually make their way here. Hopefully I can get in contact with them to warn them about those dogs… Yeah lets get going." Nodding in agreement, the trio began to walk towards one of the other exits to the library to continue their search for the rest of Bravo Team. Just before they reached the door, a sudden stab of pain in the back of Izuku's mind was the only warning he had as [Danger Sense] activated. Jumping forward and grabbing Rebecca while shouting out for Richard to get out of the way, the two younger adults could only look on in horror as a giant snake seemed to come from nowhere and strike out at where they were. Unfortunately Richard wasn't fast enough and was caught in the massive jaws of the snake, its fangs making short work of his body armor and screaming out as his torso was punctured in multiple places by butcher knife sized fangs
Rebecca could only stare on in shock and despair, before screaming out.
"Richard, NOOO!!!
