A/N: the first part is pretty light but get ready to grab you tissues for the second part. Sorry in advance.
"So you have a fitting at 1 p.m. and I need to check on my one post op, so it works out perfectly," Maggie spoke up.
"Why don't you let me just walk, I know my way around this place," Arizona groaned.
"Because you can't walk, your only mode of transportation is crutches because your leg was broken. So yeah you can hobble but I don't want you to be exhausted," Maggie explained.
"I feel like that's ableist," Arizona mumbled.
"What," Maggie questioned.
"Nothing," Arizona huffed as they got on the elevator. "At least let me roll myself."
"You're going to over exert yourself because you don't know when to stop."
"You don't know me."
"Karev said youd say that."
"So you're taking orders from Karev now?
"He said you'd say that too."
"For a department head you definitely let people push you around."
"You do too," Maggie smirk as the elevator door opened.
"Not funny," Arizona groaned.
"I heard a chuckle so it had to at least be a little funny."
"You're insufferable."
"You're the first person to ever call me that. At least I'm living up to the stereotype of all cardio surgeons being insufferable egotistical maniacs."
Arizona couldn't help but let the smirk form on her face. Maggie's deadpan delivery was kind of funny. She quickly wiped it off as she was rolled between the wide double doors at the end of the hall.
"Arizona," David greeted her. "Haven't seen you in a while."
"Thankful for that."
"I'm going to go I have a post op to check on and some backed up paper work to fill out so just text me when you're done," Maggie said before leaving the room.
"She seems like a real treat," David teased.
"No she is I just pushed her buttons this morning," Arizona replied.
"Why?"
"Because she made me use a chair," Arizona sighed as she moved on the little table.
"Yeah because you could make it from the parking lot to the fifth floor on crutches," David question?
"See I feel like you not believing in my abilities is ableist."
"You can't scream ableism every time someone wants to help you."
"I can do whatever I want I'm the one who lost a leg."
"Keep tell yourself that."
"I will."
"Take off your pants."
"Callie hey what are you doing here," Maggie wondered?
"Oh im picking up Zola and Bailey and Ellis, then we are going the aquarium," Callie smiled.
"Come on mama," Sofia pulled on her arm.
"Be patient sweet we will see Zola in a minute," Callie turned back to Maggie.
"what are you doing here?"
"Oh I'm just working on paperwork," said Maggie, which was technically true.
"So, Deluca's with Arizona right now?"
"Yea."
"Good, well I have to go get the kids," Callie turned to leave.
"See you later."
"In around two weeks you should have a new leg," David smiled.
"Thank you," Arizona smiled.
"So how's life been since the tumor," David asked?
"Wow, you've never been one to beat around the bush huh?" Arizona didn't really know how to respond.
"I visited after the surgery but I figure you had enough people bothering you, you didn't need me too. And it would probably make our relationship even more awkward than it already is," David told her.
"I don't know, life's been hard but I guess Callie's back," Arizona slipped back on her pants.
"What's that got to do with you," David asked, as he wiped down the equipment?
"Honestly I don't know," Arizona shrugged?
"I mean do you want her to be back?"
"I never wanted her to leave. She was the one who left me but I was one who step out," Arizona looked down at her hands.
"Maybe you should tell her that."
"She'll just leave again anyway, I mean I would I'm so broken I don't even know who I am anymore."
"You're not broken Arizona."
"Robbins."
Arizona swung her head around. Alex Karev out of breathe, rolling a wheel chair stood in the entrance.
"What," Arizona wondered what he wanted.
He stuck his hand out handing her the tablet. She took it.
"Look at the ct," Alex instructed.
"Wow," Arizona saw it.
"Is it?"
"How was her heart beat?"
"She had an arrhythmia, is it what I think it is?"
"If it is you need to get in there quickly," Arizona instructed.
"Hey don't beat yourself up," Arizona greeted his as he walked out of the O.R.
"I should've noticed this earlier," Karev shook his head.
"You didn't and I'm going to say it's okay, because it's not. But now we know what it is," Arizona smiled.
"Poor kid," Karev muttered.
"But now that poor kid will live for seventy more years and have the life they always wanted because of you. Good job Karev," She grabbed his hand and squeezed it.
"Thank you, Robbins," He gave one of his signature his smirks.
"Arizona, I've been looking all over for you," Maggie sighed.
"Well I can't go too far," Arizona groaned.
"You should've texted me when you left your appointment."
"It's not like I planned it Margaret so stop treating me like a child," Arizona rolled her eyes.
"Sorry," Maggie apologized. "Its just if I lost you, I'd never hear the end of it from Meredith."
"Yeah, yeah just stop treating me like I'm five," Arizona shooed her.
"Just let me know when you're ready to go then," Maggie smiled before turning around.
"Why are so mean, that my thing," Karev smirked.
"Make sure you let her parents know about the yearly appointments," Arizona turned around in the chair.
"Let me," Karev walked over to her.
"I got it," Arizona groaned.
"I got it," Karev mocked.
"Stop it," Arizona laughed at his mocking.
"Just let me push you."
"Fine."
"So I was thinking we have a light lunch then go big for dinner. I want to make a pot roast," Maggie suggested.
"What's you version of a light lunch," Arizona asked?
"A nice salad, so technically it's not really light but when you think about salads you think light so," Maggie rambled.
"You rambled more than me," Arizona waited for Maggie to help her out of the car.
"Sorry."
"No it's okay, it's kind of refreshing in a way."
"So about the food?"
"it's a bit last lunch don't you think."
"Yes but we didn't eat before we left. At least I didn't eat before we left," Maggie added.
"Okay then," Arizona shrugged as they got up to the door.
"Okay then, what?"
"Okay to the salad."
"Good," Maggie smiled.
"Just open the door," Arizona groaned.
"I'm getting to it," Maggie smirked.
Voices could be heard on the other side of the door. It sounded like Sofia and Callie.
"Is that Callie," Arizona asked?
"I don't know let's find out together," Maggie turned the handle to open the door. And low and behold Callie was sitting on the couch with four children sitting around her.
"Mommy," Sofia got up.
"Remember mommy's on crutches," Callie reminded her.
"I missed you Mommy," Sofia smiled hugged her waist.
"You've been gone for two days," Arizona smiled rubbing Sofias back as she hugged her.
"I know that's so long," Sofia pulled away.
"Give mommy a bit of space," Callie could see Arizona struggle to stand straight.
"Okay," She back up.
Arizona grabbed the crutches that laided on the wall by the door and moved over to the couch. They all watched as she moved.
"How's your day mummy," Sofia spoke in a British accent. She loves Peppa Pig, sometimes imitating the accents.
"My day was awesome," Arizona tried to do her best British accent.
"Your accent isn't that good," Bailey giggled.
"Hey," Arizona fake gasped.
"How about after tea we have a light snack," Callie did her best accent.
"Of course," Sofia over exaggerated her words to fit the accent.
"That's how it's done," Callie leaned over to whisper in her ear.
Arizona gritted her teeth to keep a smile from forming.
"You know you want to smile," Callie taunted.
"Stop it," Arizona but her bottom lip.
"Come on just laugh for me," Callie smiled.
Arizona felt her self begin to smile. "Dang it," She mumbled.
"There's that super magical smile," Callie looked at her with love in her eyes.
An hour later and all the kids out of the house. Arizona, Callie and Maggie were the only people left in the house.
Callie started at Arizona not knowing what to do next. They said theyd talk but she didn't expect it to be so soon.
"Maggie could you leave for a bit," Callie asked, as politely as she could?
"But I'm making pot roast, that takes hours," Maggie turned around with her apron on.
"Maggie," Arizona sighed.
She looked into the living room seeing the serious expression on both women.
"Oh," She finally caught on. "Oh my, I'm so sorry." She quickly turned off the stove."Just let me clean up and I'll be out of your hair in less than five minutes.
"Thank you," Arizona mumbled.
Maggie offered a quick smiled as she flung the apron on the counter. Putting on her shoes in a hurry, she then grabbed her coat of the coat rack. Almost forgetting her keys in the process.
"Oh, can't forget those," She whispered under her breathe before leaving the house with a word.
They sat in silence, at first starting into each others eyes. But the more Callie stared, the more she wanted to pull her in for a kiss. So she resorted to staring at the paint on the wall. It was texture, popcorn is what they call. At least that's what she thinks. The wall was unique, the texture wasn't uniform but it wasn't messy. It had its own little pattern. Never the same but never really different. That's kind of how she felt about herself and Arizona. Every time they'd break up they'd change in one way or another but in most ways they where the same. In the same state they left in never resolving those issue. Instead just sweeping them under the rug.
"I," They said at the same time.
"You go first," Callie suggested.
"I can't trust you," Arizona looked at she with hurt in her eyes.
"I can't either," Callie admitted.
"I mean, I trust with Sofia and I trust with my life but I ant trust you with my heart."
"I used to not trust you, specifically after you cheated. If you didn't answer a page at a run I was scared you were off doing some peds nurse. Or if I didn't see you went I enter our apartment I'd assume you left me for some younger women. When in reality you'd just fallen asleep. And sure it was the tumor, but a part me feels like it was more than the tumor," Callie spoke.
"It was, I never meant to cheat. But the flirt I loved it ever second of it. She knew I had one leg and still found me hot," Arizona bit her bottom lips to stop the tears of shame from rolling down her cheek.
"I always found you irresistible," Callie interrupted.
"I didn't think that then. I felt you where just staying with me out of obligation," Arizona looked down at her hand.
"I could've left if it was like that. Those vows weren't real and we could've split custody. But I didn't leave because our love was real," Callie tilted Arizonas head up to look at her.
"I mean she made me feel like my old self. The me before I met you, the me before," Arizona started to cry.
"It's okay," Callie tried to comfort her.
"The me before Tim died," Arizona wiped away a tear.
"The ferocious young intern, everyone was scared of me. They called me the Joker because I was always smiling but I was super cut throat," Arizona smiled at the fond memory through her tears.
"I can't imagine you like that," Callie shook her head.
"I was a perky Cristina Yang, if not even more hungry for blood. Id do almost anything to get into surgery."
"I wish I could've experienced that," Callie smirked.
"Yeah me too, but after Tim died. I didn't know what to do with myself. I started to drink, and skip work and never leave the house. Some much so that I almost lost my spot in my program. Nick tried his best to keep me afloat but it just wasn't enough so I buried Tim. All of him, the good times, the bad times. I didn't even take any of his belongings. Not even a picture. Nick left his second dog tag with me but I have them to my mom. So instead of grieving properly this time, I just ignored pushed it down. And suddenly the pain became lighter. I never grew around it or anything. But the having a girl in my bed and a beer in my hand after every shift helped. You helped too in away you're the first person I ever talk about him with," Arizona was now freely crying.
"And I thank you for sharing that with me," Callie wiped away one of Arizonas tears.
"So when she hit on me it just felt good. I don't remember much bout the other stuff. But I do remember her throwing a shirt at me and then you figuring us out. I don't think I've ever experienced a shame so great. I wanted to die. I don't know, I just wanted that feeling to end. I still carry with me, everything is a constant reminder of how I betrayed your love."
"I forgive you," Callie whispered.
"I'm trying to forgive myself," Arizona twisted her lip in to an awkward smile.
"I still can't quite forgive myself yet," Callie added.
"It's okay," Arizona looked down.
"But it's not, you don't even trust me anymore. And I don't either. When I left I didn't even know I was going to leave till I sat down and i heard you speak. You gave so much of yourself to me. And I was still so angry with you. Honestly the night before I was dreaming about how we'd renew our vows," Callie tried to stop her from crying.
"You don't have to continue," Arizona hated to see her cry since she rarely did.
"No, I'm good," Callie quickly wiped her tears as she sat up straight, before she continued on. "You alway bend for me, so much so you've began to break away. Since the beginning of our relationship you've done this. You gave up your friends for me. You stop going to that gay bar uptown because I felt uncomfortable there so we only went to joes. You allowed Mark to basically be our third because he had no sense of boundaries and was my best friend. I mean you accepted a baby as your own, without a second thought. Who might I add was by the man that you despised so much. But you didn't care because you loved me. And I got scared, because you alway bend and break for me. And what if one day you look in the mirror and saw an Arizona you didn't want to see. What I took up all your love. And you'd have nothing to give yourself, huh?"
"Callie."
"You weren't yourself at the end you weren't you. I know you changed after the crash but this wasn't even the new you. This you was scary this you was moving too fast but yet going super slow," Callie whispered the last part.
"I just wanted you to love me the that I love you," Arizona admitted.
"I did I never stopped loving you no matter what you think."
"Yeah right, that trial was brutal, what you let them say about me was vile," Arizonas sadness quick turned into anger as she thought about there moment in court.
"You aren't exactly St. Mary either," Callie defended.
"I never said anything bad about you because un like you the state of Seattle saw me as a fit mother. Maybe it was the village that helped me or maybe it was the fact that I didn't have to stoop down to petty playground tactics," Arizona bitt out.
Callie took a deep breath. This conversation couldn't end just yet they where getting somewhere.
"You're angry right now because I said something petty. And for that I apologize."
"You should've apologized a long time ago Calliope," Arizona gritted out.
"How about we take a short break, give us time to cool off. I can make tea if that'll make you feel better," Callie suggested.
"I think I break would be good."
Now back with two mugs the women sipped in silence. The sound of the outside world slowly crept through the windows.
"You can hear the birds," Callie mumbled.
"I think I have a nest on the window sill out side of Sofias room," Arizona sat down the mug.
"Right," Callie smiled putting down her mug as well. "I truly am sorry for how I reacted. I just felt like I was being pushed in a corner. A shame corner if you will and I didn't really like it."
"I was pushed in the same corner too you didn't see me retaliate. You swung first but I hit harder," Arizona looked her up and down.
"Look I'm sorry, it won't happen again I promise," Callie pleaded with her eyes to get Arizona to be less mad at her.
"Why did you come back anyway," Arizona wondered?
"To help you."
"No, I mean stay, you're staying right?"
"Yeah."
"So why are you stay," Arizona reworded her question?
"It's hard to explain," Callie could feel Arizonas eyes penetrate her skin. "But I can explain it. It happen when Sofia came into the hospital," Callie began.
"That long away."
"Yes, anyway Penny was working on her did a good job. But I wasn't ready to have Sofia know who Penny was. I asked her to get Bailey to discharge Sofia. Crazy I know but I just couldn't have Sofia know her just yet. I used you an the reason why she couldn't meant her which you quickly debunked. She came running back to me saying things like if you aren't where I am tell me, so I had to reassure her. Eventually I bumped into Bailey she told me how Sofia was doing and it dawned up on me. She went through a similar thing so I asked her when did she know little tuck was ready to meet Ben. She told me that he was barely old enough to tie his shoes let alone voice his opinions. But she had this little trick that she used which help her. She said imagine you're at the women's World Cup finals and Sofia just scored the winning goal and the crowds screaming Torres Torres Torres. Then she asked me who do I picture next to me. Truth was it was you but in my mind that ship had sailed and of course you'd be at the World Cup you're her other mother. And I made all these excuses of why I'd see you. Afterwards I forced myself to see Penny, because Penny was easy. She was everything you aren't. She was quite and but shy. Her confidence was no where near as big as yours. And something about that made me comfortable. So comfortable that i wanted to move across the world with our daughter."
"Callie," Arizona scrunched her eyes brows.
"You know I didn't realize I was still in love with you till I saw you begin dragged across the floor by Amelia."
"I wasn't being dragged."
"The wails you let out in pain, made damages to my heart. I almost beat up Amelia because she wouldn't put you down. The only reason I left was because she threaten to call security. You know I had never seen you that small. I just wanted to wrap you up in all my love and never let you go," Callie admitted.
"How do I know you're not going to leave again," Arizona asked?
"You don't but slowly, hopefully I'll gain all your trust back and one day we'll look upon this imminent as the start of our new life," Callie smiled.
"Can I get a hug," Arizona whispered.
"Always," Callie leaned in wrapping her arms around the smaller women.
Arizona rested her head in the crook of Callie's next taking in the over whelming scent of vanilla and leather. She didn't even realize she had began crying till she felt her shoulder shake from the power of her sobs.
"Get it all out I'm not going anywhere," Callie whispered, on the verge of crying herself, as she rubbing circles into Arizonas back.
Callie joined her no longer able to keep her calm face on. She pressed a kiss into Arizona blonde locs, as tears rushed down her face.
Arizona slowly pulled away pushing there forehead together. No one opened there eyes. Arizona feared that if she did, with this close proximity, she'd want to kiss Callie.
"How do we get through this," Arizona spoke first.
"I don't know but I know we'll get through it. I mean we've survived everything together. So this, this is the easy part," Callie reassure her. "I think therapy would help but by ourselves instead of together. When we were together I'd always just cut you off and assume what you meant instead of asking. And we both need to work on ourselves for bit before we come together."
"You're right."
As Callie started to move away, Arizona quickly opened her eyes.
"Can we stay like that for bit longer I like being close to you," Arizona whispered.
"How about this, we text mAggie telling her to come back tomorrow. I order pizza and we snuggle up and watch a movie or something that way you can be close to me and it not be uncomfortable," Callie suggested.
"That was uncomfortable," Arizona wondered?
"You were resting your forehead against mine, so it wasn't the most comfortable I'd ever been. I mean you head a big head," Callie teased hoping to see Arizona smiled.
"I do not," Arizona lightly tapped Callie's arm after the accusation.
"Keep telling yourself that," Callie got up with her back turned to Arizona turning to keep herself from laughing.
"Shut up," Arizona crossed her arms.
"What do you want on the pizza, Megamind," Callie bit her lip to stop the laughter.
"Hey," Arizona tried to chuck a pillow at Callie but she was too far into the kitchen.
"I'm just going to get pineapple if you don't let me," Callie laughed as turned around to face a pouting Arizona.
"Veggies and pepperoni, but no mushrooms," Arizona mumbled accepting her defeat.
Callie picked up the pillow throwing it back at Arizona "What was that."
"No far I only have one leg right now," Arizona pouted even more.
"Judt tell me the topping," Callie smirked at the expression on Arizonas face.
"Veggies with pepperoni but no mushroom," Arizona half yelled.
"I think I'm going to need a hearing aid after that," Callie joked as she opened the draw. Same as always the thirds draw from the right. Callie had came up with this. Most days Callie was to tired to cook and Arizona simply did not know how so they had accumulated a lot of takeout menus and instead of throwing them away or keeping a pile out she decide to make a takeout draw. Apparently Arizona kept the tradition going.
"Thats what you get."
"Alright Ms. Revenge pick out a movie but no frozen I've watched it twice this evening," Callie instructed.
"Dang it."
Callie watched Arizona from the kitchen as she placed the order on the house phone. She watched her face, her expression was no longer uncertain and uncomfortable. She wore a faint smile on her lips as she searched through movie selections.
"So the pizza will be here in 20," Callie slide next to her.
"I can't decide between Princess and the Frog or How to lose a guy in 10 days," Arizona smiled.
"two different genres."
"I know that Callie."
Callie blew her lips together. "I can't help you on that one sunshine."
"What's that smile on your face for," Arizona questioned?
"I can asked the same thing," Callie retorted.
"But I asked first," Arizona smirked.
"Well if you must know, I feel better lighter almost. I don't feel this weight tied to me anymore, following me wherever I go. And that feels amazing. What about you?"Callie smiled.
"Same."
"Not a women of many words," Callie teased Arizona.
"Oh shut up," Arizona shooed her away.
They had decide, they being Arizona, that they'd first watch how to lose a guy in 10 days then Princess and the Frog. Almost there had just end as Callie moved her head to look down at Arizona.
"You know I could get used to this, again," Callie whispered.
"Me too," Arizona smirked as Callie pressed a kiss against her forehead.
By the time the credits rolled around Arizona was fast asleep with her head laying on Callie chest. And as much as she loved this she'd have to wake her up. Sleeping on the couch isn't as fun as it used to be when you where twenty. She opted for a shoulder shake to wake Arizona up but it only caused Arizona to turn her head. So she just gave up deciding to carry her instead. Callie slowly slide her body from underneath Arizonas . Rolling herself on the floor she got up after her not so graceful landing. Scooping up Arizona bridal style the jostling must have woken her up. On the way the her room she opened her eyes.
"Hello beautiful," Callie smiled as she felt arms wrap around her next.
"Why are you carrying me," Arizona asked?
"You feel asleep and the movie ended, you were only out for the last thirty minutes of the movie," Callie explained.
"I missed the good part."
"We can go back and watch the last thirty minutes," Callie suggested.
"No I'd probably just fall asleep again," Arizona admitted one they got to her bedroom.
Callie slowly lowered Arizona onto the bed.
"Thank you," Arizona whispered.
Callie paused as Arizona held on to her hand. They shared a brief moment as there eyes locked together. For a moment Callie began to closer. Arizona thought she was going to go in for a kiss.
"I um Im going go clean up then see myself out, you have a good night," Callie turned to leave but Arizona tugged her back over.
"Stay, that was the best sleep I've had in ages please stay," Arizona begged.
"Sure," Callie sighed, it wasn't Arizona who she worried about it was her being that close to Arizona made her feel things.
"I have your old sweater and flannel pants in the bottom drawer underneath the George Town hoodie," Arizona told her. "And while your down there can you grab the shorts and the hoodie in the draw.
"yeah, sure," Callie picked up the hoodie and the shorts first since it was on top, then the sweater and flannel pants under it. "Here," Callie handed the pajama over to her.
"Do you mind getting ready in the bathroom since I kinda can't move with out my crutches?"
"I should go get those," Callie finally remembered the discarded crutches on the side of couch.
"After we change," Arizona said.
"Yeah you're right," Callie nodded her head and made her way into the bathroom. She stayed a hot longer than she intended to but she didn't want to run the risk of seeing Arizona nude.
Callie knocked on the door." Are you done?"
"No need to knock Callie I've been done for a few minutes," Arizona told her.
"Sorry," Callie replied as she swung the bathroom door open.
"No I find it charming," Arizona smiled, which caused Callie to smile back.
"Your crutches," Callie quickly turned away from the pretty smiling lady to remember what she was supposed to do.
"Yes my crutches," Arizona laughed at the way Callie blurted.
"I should go get them." Callie awkwardly slid out of the room and went to the living room ti retrieve Arizonas crutches. Before going back in she needed to calm down. "Youre okay Torres you lived with thats smile for 6 and a half years it's nothing you haven't seen before." Callie whispered to herself before reentering the room.
"Thank you Callie," Arizona said, as Callie laid the crutches against the wall on her side.
"No problem," Callie stood there not knowing what to do next.
Arizona pulled back the covers on the other side. Callie walked over and got in the bed. Trying her best to not make any sudden movements. She didn't want to do something wrong or something that wasn't at Arizonas pace.
"You know we cuddle, I mean we cuddled on the couch," Arizona pointed out.
"You're right, sorry," Callie scooted over close to Arizona.
Arizona sighed before laying her head on Callie chest and wrapping her only leg around Callie's. They'd never snuggled like this before just mostly big spoon little spoon.
"You've never done this before," Callie whispered.
"Though I'd try something new," Arizona closed her eyes.
"Good night Arizona."
"Goodnight Calliope."
"I love you," was the last thing Arizona whispered before she fell asleep.
Those three words make Callie's heart skip a beat, she couldn't help going to sleep with a smile on her face. This was it, this was what she wanted. And now she's got it and she couldn't have asked for anything better.
A/N: Idk I feel like people don't make Arizona chaotic enough and I just added a bit of my humor in her. I hope you liked this chapter. And I'm still in search of a proofread. Anyways TOOTLES 3
