Warning, I do not own the wonderful art that is the Medoran chronicles, that honor goes to Lynette Noni. Cue the applause.

Kaiden pov

I watched from my seat as Alex limped away from the arena. It was our yearly exams, and this year Karter had decided to get us to see who was the bestest of the best at combat (his words, not mine). A loud cheer erupted from the crowd. Did I mention that the entire school was watching us? We'd finished empty-handed combat, as Declan called it; in this one, me, Declan, Sebestion, and Alex won with me and Declan tied. Then it was Staff Alex, and Seb didn't have a winner; I won between me and Declan. Then it was sword fighting; I won easily against Seb, and now it was just Alex.

Rules:

1. This one we all agreed on: if Alex didn't go for our groin, we wouldn't rip her hair out of her scalp. I personally won't because her hair is soooo pretty and soft when we're making out, but yeah.

2. We can use our gifts, so yeah, I had an advantage. But then there's Alex, who could use her Meyarin abilities only if she wore a blindfold and used her left hand, which she hadn't done yet, by the way.

3. Do not touch your opponent's eyes; if you do, they are permitted to rip you to actual shreds.

Yeah, those are the rules, I guess. So now I'm up against my beautiful, hot, pretty, sexy, annoyingly selfless girlfriend. Did I mention she's as fast and attentive as a very fast and attentive person? Oh, yeah, I'm real poetic too; it's just one of my infinite talents. On the big screen, I could see the votes on who would win. I was winning, probably because of my gift. Alex smirked at the picture and whispered something to Declan, who sniggered, I would have to ask about that later.

I watched as Alex's soft hands sharpened the sword she was holding. I found myself wanting to be the sword; without the sharpener, of course, that would hurt. She stood as the warning bell rang and started to loosen her limbs while I mimicked her actions.

1...2...3...Gooooo.

The bell resounded against the walls of the arena, the lights dimmed, and the crowds cheering whet quieter except for a few cheers of 'Let's go, Alex, let's go' probably from her friends. I watched as she wound a piece of silk around her eyes. Karter held up six fingers and asked how many he was holding up.

'I've never actually had X-ray vision, so will a guess do? Okey, dokey, 5! No? I told you I didn't have X-ray vision.' Alex said cheekily, reminding me exactly why I had fallen for this brunette. Her humor, looks, accent, and, well, the list goes on forever, so just to save you from reading 5 pages of my gushing about how amazing she is, I will stop there.

I held my sword ready in a defensive position while Alex's dangled at her side. I stabbed toward her abdomen, and she bet my blade with her own, easily earning a gasp from the audience. She then spun right when I tried to slash her bladed hand. Alex proceeded to attack me with a series of lunges, all this while she sang 'Stab, stab, stab'. I reached into the depths of my mind, pulling Jordan's gift out of the small pile of gifts that I had acquired, and then, with the cold feeling tingling down my spine, it disappeared.

'Where are you, baby?' She inquired in a seductive voice that made my heart race. 'Are you too afraid to meet my blade, knowing that you are slower than your own girlfriend? Coward!'. She hit all the nerves she wanted to hit. She knew very well that I didn't care about her being stronger than me, but I did care when someone called me a coward.

'Speak for yourself; you are so slow without your Meyarin abilities that you wear them like they're a shield.' I didn't mean it, of course, but goading was just something the Epsilon combat group did.

'Says the one invisible.' She scoffed.

'Save it; we all know how bad you are without being half Meyarin.' I replied, acting like I wasn't angry at her insult.

Then she leaned forward, placing a chaste kiss on my lips. My mind went haywire: how is she kissing me? I'm invisible; shit, she's kissing me; and why is she kissing me in front of so many people? Then she attempted to push me down. I pushed back, but somehow ended up flat on my back with the tip of her sword at my neck, and my sword, which had somehow found its way into Alex's hand, was at my heart. Karter blew the whistle, and everyone cheered for Alex. I glanced at her to see her bright red and staring at her feet. My adorably violent girlfriend.
