This is my first story and it's a constant work in progress, feel free to comment how to improve.
Youmu was grateful she was allowed to turn her life around.
Youmu Konpaku, Miss Half-Phantom, had seen all the traumas of war and was happy that she could be of use as a peace officer instead, helping to rebuild a country in Africa that had gone through a civil war.
Youmu knew about civil wars, she had been on the front lines in her own countries civil war at age 6. She has changed and matured a lot since then. From being taken in, to slowly changing herself into a cyborg, to finding out that the people who took her in were terrorists. They held memories that she wishes she could forget forever. The trauma they brought was unrivalled, they kept her up at night. But that was then. Now Youmu, half human, half mechanical, was just one of the people in a black limousine with the democratically elected prime minister, Kanako Yasaka, going off to a civil announcement.
Kanako Yasaka was an intelligent individual who had slowly worked her way up the political scene, making friends with the right people in power and with the general population. She was well loved and after the war, she has been hailed as a hero by the population. She was a beam of stability in her nation which was struggling between different ethnicities and ideals. Now she was given a chance to rest in a country free from war.
"Three years. Three whole years. A lot has happened during this time. A long time." Spoke Kanako with a tone of tiredness. The few years of war had aged her body and mind quickly. "The maturity of a nations people to persevere through a crisis like this is commendable."
"All the work of a good leader." Responded Suwako, her advisor and close friend.
"And a loyal advisor." Kanako knew Suwako for years and the young advisor had gotten that role a year ago. Suwako acted as the moral compass to Kanako's 'do what's right' attitude.
Then the two of them turned to the front of the limo carriage. There sat Youmu.
"When we first contacted Netherworld, I was very concerned. I didn't have and still don't have much confidence in private military companies considering how much devastation other PMC's have brought here with starting the war." Kanako explained to Youmu with the upmost gratitude.
"Well, no problem. Just here to bring justice." Explained Youmu, feeling happy for helping bring freedom to a formerly war-torn nation.
"And I'm sure the people appreciate your efforts as well."
And they were. Looking out of the limo's window, there were people on the streets, going about lives they were not able to enjoy for the years of war. There were vendors on the streets, kids playing soccer, adults watching them having coffee, having a life they weren't able to have for years.
The Limo contained just 6 people. In the front was a security guard driving and Reisen Udonge, a peace worker for Netherworld who is in tune with electronics. Behind them was a bigger area featuring Youmu, President Yasaka, Vice President Moriya and another security officer.
Seeing the peace outside made the occupants in the limo happy. The Limo was surrounded by Netherworld personnel as a means to prevent rogue criminals from taking a clean shot. Netherworld had been contacted a few months ago by Suwako, against the advice of Kanako, but they quickly managed to create peace, far quicker than if they weren't there.
Youmu had joined Netherworld on reading about their goals to assist groups who need them with military help. They are a Private Military Company who provide contracted defence instead of act as warmongers. Their leader is Yuyuko Saigyouji, a pink haired tall and intimidating woman who came from the former Soviet Union. She founded Netherworld with members of a previous incident on the agreement that they fight for what they believe and as peacefully as possible. A Netherworld presentation at the University of Kansas attracted the interest of university students Satori Komeiji and Reisen Udonge, both classmates and close friends. Yuyuko's connections also brought in aspiring but brash Japanese scientist Eirin Yagokoro, who preferred to use her codename "Doktor".
"We like to call our works "Private Security Providers" instead of military, miss Prime Minister. Most of Netherworld's contracts are focused on security." Youmu's words was more to justify involving herself in this fighting, she hated using the word military to describe what she was doing. In her eyes, she saw all of this as a way to prevent what happened to her in childhood.
"Well, 'security' can have a lot of different meanings" Responded Kanako in a joking manner, lightly referring to the military vehicles surrounding them and the armed leader, all military vehicles had guns. "So how did you end up getting your name, miss Half-Phantom?"
"Well, it was more of a codename used in the military. It got used once by my commanding officer and slowly got more applicable, so I stuck with it. Thanks, miss Prime Minister." Youmu paused for a moment in case it might not be the right time to say the code of the Samurai.
But before she could say it, the limo stopped. The armed escorts had someone blocking the way.
"What is happening?" Asked Suwako. This stop was not planned.
"It looks like someone's blocking the road." Explained Reisen, her explanation sounded routine while the thing happening was anything but routine.
What the lead squad car saw was a woman, around her late 20's. Short blonde hair, physically fit but defining features and metal plating all around her below the head. She most definitely was a cyborg but not one by Netherworld. The most striking part of her, however, was what looked like a set of fox ears on her head and a total of 9 mechanical tails protruding out of her. She was slowly walking over to the lead vehicle, not saying a word.
"Clear the road! This is official state business." Announced the man on top of the lead military truck, machine gun aimed at this strange woman.
She didn't say anything before taking her blade out of it sheath. The blade shone a bright red with cracks of electricity all around the blade. It only proved to infuriate the officer.
"Move out of the way or I will be forced to initiate fire."
The cyborg took this as an opportunity to move. The only problem for the officer was that she started dashing towards him, forcing him to take fire. The bullets went everywhere but the cyborg seemingly on instinct used her blade as a deflector. Her speed was unreal, and she moved faster than the gun could be moved. The cyborg lady leapt towards the gun and…
Slashed the turret AND the man operating it in half, it spewed out blood everywhere. A rogue attack had happened before, but not by a cyborg. Netherworld's military trucks surround the cyborg as armed officers raced out to arm their guns at the cyborg. She simply turned around to them and made a smile that looked like she had never smiled in her life.
"Vehicle Lightning Bolt 1! U-Turn! Turning around." Commanded Reisen. She loaded up the communications to Netherworld's boss, Yuyuko Saigyouji.
As the Limo was driving away, the communications were in organized panic.
"We've been hit, Yuyuko. A cyborg. XIFF says their allegiance is 'unaffiliated'." Reisen had never been put in a situation like this in her life before.
"Alright." Said Yuyuko acting as calm as someone could be as someone seen as a protector in a potential assassination attempt could be. "I will notify all security points in the area. Protect President Yasaka at all costs. Get her out of there."
"Will do."
As the limo and one military truck were leaving the scene, the other cyborg was mercilessly killing every officer and deflecting all the bullets being shot at her. It was like a fine and elegant dance, if it wasn't a permanent rain of blood and body parts. Her blade chopped so efficiently that the soldiers felt nothing before they became half the soldiers they once were. It was distressing for them to see that none of them could do anything about this walking cyborg ninja kyuubi girl, dancing away at them like a force of nature.
As the limo was trying to escape the scene, the group inside and the rest of Netherworld would soon realize that this was not a solo stunt, it was a full-on organized assault to acquire the president.
To be continued…
Notes:
Hello, this is my first time doing anything like this and I have little idea of what I am getting myself into.
