Chapter 29: Rescue mission
7 AM
It was now a bright sunny morning over Los Angeles. But for the Bad Guys and Diane, it was a very sad and distressful morning.
Since the hideout had no power for the time being, Diane and the Bad Guys all had to leave the place and go to a small cafe restaurant with free wi-fi. They were currently sitting around a small table with a large hacking laptop opened up in front of them. The laptop was playing security footage showing the outside of the hideout during Marmalade's break in.
"There he is. Watch carefully." Ms. Tarantula said as pointing to Marmalading appearing in the footage screen
Diane and the Bad Guys all leaned in to watch the footage carefully as it showed Marmalade somehow scaling the concrete wall of the hideout up to the main window.
"How the heck is he climbing our wall?" Mr. Wolf asked
"Well he is a guinea pig. They can climb almost anything like hamsters." Mr. Snake said
Marmalade finally reaches the window and takes out a small metal pry tool to bash a hole in the glass before climbing inside.
Mr. Shark was anxiously drinking a cup of coffee as he and the others kept watching the security footage in horror.
After a few minutes, the footage now shows Marmalade emerging back out of the window with Jet somehow strapped on his back unconcious like a backpack. He then uses a long rope to quickly rappel back down the wall and land back on the ground. Marmalade then goes over to a nearby manhole cover and opens it up before going down in it totally vanishing out of sight to who knows where with Diane's pup.
After the security footage concluded, Diane closes the laptop before breaking down in tears with her hands on her face.
"Oh...my...Gosh!" Ms. Tarantula exclaimed
"What kind of a sick animal!" Mr. Snake glared angered by the footage
"How did he knock out the kid?" Mr. Shark asked
"*sniff* Oh my baby. *sob*" Diane sobbed sadly of her pup being kidnapped
Mr. Wolf caringly wraps an arm around Diane and consoles her in a caring hug.
"Shhhh calm down Diane. It's going to be alright. We're gonna get Marmalade and find your kid. Shhhhh there there." Mr. Wolf assured as he gave Diane a napkin for her tears
"What are we going to do?" Mr. Shark asked
"Should we tell the cops about this?" Tarantula asked
"Ummm I don't think that would be worth it. We all know how Marmalade is. He almost outmatched us last time. It would take like an army to catch him and take him down. It would be up to us to find him and shove some fear down his throat." Mr. Wolf said
"Agreed. But we don't know where he is after we saw him jump down in that sewer with the kid. He could be anywhere in this vast city. He could be hiding in a suitcase ready to be flown away on a plane." Mr. Snake said
"Don't speak too soon Snake." Piranha said
Suddenly a news channel on a nearby TV of the cafe catches their attention.
"Good morning everyone we have breaking news. Just 10 hours ago, there has been numerous reports of experimental rocket fuel stolen from a series of military bases and space research centers. It is unknown of who stole them or how it was done but police and military are currently working together on finding clues of this unusual theft." The news anchor woman said
"What the-...guys you hearing this?" Snake said
The Bad Guys along with Diane all stayed quiet to listen to the news on the TV.
"We also have other numerous reports of expensive navigation equipment stolen out of planes from a few airports. Again we don't know who did it or how but we will keep you updated with more information as we get it. We now go live to the scene of the unusual crime." The news anchor said before the news cuts to a reporter standing at one of the airports speaking with a microphone
"Huh...Rocket fuel...aircraft navigation equipment...sounds fishy" Mr. Wolf said as his mind processed
"This is very unusual indeed. It's not everyday someone would go and steal rocket fuel and expensive aerial technology in the same week." Tarantula said
"Yeah. That sounds very much like something we would do for a certain reason." Mr. Piranha said
That's when it hit everyone.
"Wait a minute...I think we all know who's behind it." Mr. Wolf said
"I know what your thinking Wolf. This is no coincidence." Snake said
"*Gasp!* Guys I think I know where Marmalade could be hiding!" Diane exclaimed coming to a realization
"Oh yeah? Let's hear it Fox!" Wolf said in excitement
With that, Diane re-opens up the hacking laptop and starts punching away on the keyboard. In just a few seconds, Diane pulls up a live satellite feed showing an aerial view of Los Angeles. She then pans the satellite camera over to a small mountain range far north outside of Los Angeles before zooming in to a small open clearing area in a forest showing the top of a large square hangar-like building with a huge circular closed underground silo next to it.
"What is that place?" Mr. Snake asked
"That is an experimental rocket silo. That's where Marmalade could be holding Jet. And it's also where he could be working on his next big scheme." Diane said
"How can you be so sure he's there?" Mr. Wolf asked
"Well as a governor, I know for a fact that rocket silo has been abandoned for 10 years. It used to be used for testing various satellite rockets until it had to be shut down for safety reasons." Diane said
"So if Marmalade is stealing rocket fuel and he's hiding out at an isolated silo...then that means...HE'S GETTING READY TO GO TO SPACE WITH A ROCKET!" Mr. Shark exclaimed in panic
"OR MAYBE LAUNCH SOME KIND OF POWERFUL NUCLEAR MISSILE OR A DEADLY BIO BOMB!" Mr. Snake added
"Oh my gosh." Tarantula said in worry
"And that's we have to get to him fast!" Diane said as she slammed the laptop closed
"Well guys it looks like we got ourselves a combat rescue mission. To take down Marmalade and save Diane's kid." Mr. Wolf said as he stood up
"Yeah! Let do this!" Ms. Tarantula shouted in courageous tone
"But first we all need to gear up first. Everyone follow me." Mr. Wolf said as he started walking to the door of the cafe
Diane and the rest of the guys all stand up and follow along to walk out of the cafe. Mr. Shark quickly takes out some cash to leave on the table to pay for the coffee and breakfast before catching up with the group.
Once outside of the cafe, Mr. Wolf walks over to the parked muscle car next to the sidewalk and stands next to the rear trunk.
"What are you about to show us Wolf?" Snake asked as everyone all gathered around
With that, Mr. Wolf slaps the trunk of the car causing it to open right up revealing lots of cool tools and weapons used for infiltrating and fighting along with different sized black tactical outfits for each member of the group.
"Woah Mama!" Piranha said in amazement
"Oh Neato!" Tarantula smiled
"Everyone put on a cat suit and grab whatever gadget and gizmo you can carry and use." Wolf said as everyone all started raiding the trunk of all the tools
while Snake, Shark, Piranha, and Tarantula were all getting fixed up with all the gear, Diane simply strips off all her normal clothes revealing her black Crimson Paw suit underneath.
"Impressive Diane." Wolf smiled
"I never leave home without it Wolf." Diane smiled back before she double checked her utility belt to make sure she had the necessary and critical tools to take on Marmalade and rescue Jet
Pretty soon the bad guys were all geared up and ready for combat as they all hopped into their car and started speeding away down the street with Wolf behind the wheel and Diane in the passenger seat. Everyone else all sat in the back seat while Tarantula sat in her usual spot on the dashboard.
Diane had a smartphone with a GPS map set up navigating them to the abandoned rocket silo far outside of the city. It was going to be a long ride but they were not going to stop for anything. For now, the Bad Guys were super serious on rescuing Diane's little wolf.
"Hey Diane." Wolf said getting her attention
"Yes Wolf?"
"Way to go on figuring out where Maramalade was hiding. I was very impressed. You really are smart." Wolf smiled to lighten the mood a little
"Hehe thank you very much Wolf. I am a smart and clever fox." Diane smiled back
As Mr. Wolf focused on driving, Diane reaches inside her black suit and takes out a small photograph picture. The photo showed Diane sitting on an easy chair at home and cuddling Jet who was sleeping in his pajamas on her lap.
Diane takes a deep breath as she looks at the heartmelting photo of her and her adoptive son.
"*sigh* Don't worry sweetie. Mommy's coming to get you. Stay strong my little pup." Diane said before putting the photo away and looking back up at the road
"You doing alright?" Tarantula caringly asked from the dashboard
"I am ready Webs." Diane smiled
Mr. Wolf suddenly reaches down to switch on the radio and the song 'Bad Guy' by Billie Eilish starts playing out of the speakers. Mr. Wolf then steps hard on the gas making the car roar away to get to their destination faster.
