"Head for the SGC." Jack ordered, once he and Alexander were aboard the Altimah.
"Why?" Alexander asked.
"So I can contact Hammond in DC and he can talk to the President. Do you know anything about the U.S. military structure?"
"Beyond what the Xander part of me learned, no."
"Ordinarily, the military would not be allowed to operate outside their bases or in the case of the army, forts. But the Classified nature of our project means anything space and alien related mean's civilian police forces can't be charged with dealing with it. So the SGC has limited authority to investigate and if necessary, arrest anyone involved in something dealing with misuse of alien tech or aliens loose on Earth or related issues."
"Jack, that's a very slippery slope. Clearly defined roles between military and civilian police is something every civilization has faced. An oops can become abuse very easily."
"I know and it's one of the reasons the President created Homeworld Security, Hammond's new job. He's military, but the organization he's building from scratch will be civilian. Eventually, Homeworld Security will do the investigations and make necessary arrests. Until then the President has to declare a temporary exception to a law called Posse Comitatus, under the Insurrection Act, It allows for the declaration of an insurrection, which allows the military to act outside their bases and arrest those involved in it. When we first met in Sunnydale, we were just doing the investigation part, we didn't know if arresting anyone would be necessary. Finn was arrested because he stupidity admitted to doing something he wasn't legally allowed to do. Like I said, we've yet to catch the NID doing something smart. We've had to go after them before. Instances that included stealing from our allies, being a prime example. Although the bulk of that investigation was off world. I can call Hammond, he can talk to the President and I can order the SGC teams to Cleveland and we'll come down like a ton of bricks on those idiots."
"Or I could sneak in and get them out myself. Or we could do a combination, I get them out, you get the idiots. I'm over 500 years old, Jack. Trust me, I've got experience."
"I don't doubt it. And you'd be using your tech, like that handy little scanner, wouldn't you?"
"Yes. And if I give you a communicator, it can make coordinating even easier."
"Works for me."
"Setting course for Colorado. Corda hasn't turned her communicator off, Jack. It's been running nonstop. And at present, it's broadcasting to everyone using one of our communicators. Which as of right now, is just our people in Sunnydale. I'm very certain, Oz is recoding everything they say."
"Damn, it's good to work with people who know what the Hell they're doing. Evidence."
"Mmhm." That was not a nice smile on Alexander's face. "Hailing Oz now."
"Alexander, Corda's message?" Came Oz's voice over the Altimah's speakers.
"Yes, Jack and I have put together a plan. Please tell Jack what you did when you got the message."
"Recording. Evidence."
"Is he related to Teal'C?"
"I did say they had alot in common. Keep the line open, Oz. Good job."
"Bring them home."
"I intend to."
Not long after, Alexander set the cloaked Altimah down near Cheyenne Mountain. Scans showed no one nearby and no electronics. No one was going to see them immerge from empty space.
"Everyone, remember where we parked." Jack joked as they exited thru the airlock.
"Xander was a self professed sci-fi geek, Jack. It's an interest I've come to share. Star Trek is a particular favorite of both of us. And we both think Picard was a better Captain. Kirk's intelligence only seems to come out in the books, he spends too much time romancing on the show."
"I happened to agree. But then romance has been sadly lacking from my life for awhile."
"We kick the Gou'ald's butt and Carter or you can do something about that."
"You're too damn observant."
"It's also not something I ever had to worry about. We didn't have the same kind of rules you seem to. Corda was my first officer and my wife. Worked out very well for both us."
"Yeah, yeah. Rub it in." Jack muttered, as they approached the guard post.
"Welcome back, sir." The guard said.
"Not for long, I'll be heading back out soon. This is Alexander Harris of the Altimah Project, a defense contractor, he's older then looks. He has clearance, you can check. His company has been making some very Interesting things. I'm working on getting you boys some new toys."
The guard grinned. "I'll be sure to remember my manners and write a thank you note, sir." As he waved them in, after checking.
Jack led Alexander first to Carter's area.
"Carter, we've got ourselves another NID fuck up in Cleveland, of all places. Unfortunately, Corda and another of his friends got snatched by them. Alexander will fill you in while I call Hammond and get the ok for an op. Helps that the President is now aware of the rifts, since Hammond filled him in after Alexander told him about them. Everything related to them, now falls under Homeworld Security too."
Leaving Alexander to fill Carter in, General O'Neill headed for his office. It was time to get to work.
'Hold on, Corda.' Alexander thought, 'I'm coming for you.'
A/N I admit, I don't know much about the law. I've tried to come up with a hopefully halfway believable explanation for why SG 1 (military) would get sent out to investigate things like the NID (civilian) project in Oregon (on the show) where the NID cloned Gou'ald's that took over the townspeople. And seriously, did the NID ever have a smart plan?
