The forest around the boy collapses in on itself and afterwards he's back in the concrete jungle that is known as Musutafu City. He's on his way to UA high to take the entrance exam like so many others.
"Wait up" A meek voice calls from behind. He obviously knows who it is. "Hey Kedarui" He says looking at the short girl, though her long bangs keep her eyes blocked, he can still see some violet behind them. To him her looks are normal. But to someone else the pure grey skin and hair might be abnormal. Though with Quirks as common as they are. Minor traits like this are often ignored.
"Can't believe you applied to UA. You know this is a Hero school right?" He asked her and she nodded.
"Hero Course" she says to his surprise. 'I never would've thought' Though he doesn't say it outloud. "Well let's both do our best. Seeing as we didn't go to the same middle school" She nods.
"I really do hope the test isn't outside though." He tightens his scarf.
"COME ON AND LEMME HEAR YA!" A weird looking DJ shouts to a room full of UA applicants. "..." Silence.
"Keepin it mellow, i like it"
"Haha atleast he tried to recover from that" An applicant to the two's side says not being able to help but laugh. "Sorry about that, the name's Netsu Hana." The two turn to look at him. He's surprisingly good looking and friendly looking as well.
"I'm Yugami Kanzen and she's Kedarui Higa."
"Hi" She replies to Hana's greeting.
"I'm surprised to see a couple coming to UA together" The two look confused together at Hana's statement. Nothing they'd done would imply they're a couple, right? "Huh?" "Huh? I just thought since ya know, she's holding your hand."
Yugami looks down and indeed, she was. Her glove wasn't on her hand though so that let Yugami to think; 'Maybe she was using her Quirk?'
"We're just childhood friends."
The DJ's loud shout of joy or just part of his job gets everyone including the three chatting's attention. "Today you rockin guys and gals will be competing in hip urban settings!"
"It's the Voice Hero: Present Mic!" The fanboy a few rows down seems giddy just to hear the person explaining the test to them.
"So cool! I listen to his Radio Show every day of the week!"
He gets interrupted by his friend(?) Before Present Mic continues to explain that the thousand plus students will be divided into groups A-G. Every student starts looking at there cards.
"I'm in Group Center D, how about you two?" Hana shows his card.
"A" Higa says
"We're in the same Center, Hana" Happy to atleast have someone he knows there, even if it's someone he's only just met. Though he does like that his new friend is really friendly and seemingly social. Not easy to make friends in new schools. Though he does remember that none of them are accepted yet.
"Nice! Sucks that all three of us aren't together though." He says to Higa who seems like she doesn't mind. "We should strategize and work together if we can, Kanzen" It makes sense. "That'd be great-"
But sadly it was revealed to be an individual based point system. So whoever destroys the robot get the points. Present Mic revealed three robots. The first worth one, the second worth two and the third worth three.
"Empty Space" Higa points out.
"It is weird that they put one in each corner if there's only three" Yugami agrees. Though they didn't wait long for the explanation as to why. Since another applicant stood up and said how shameful and unprofessional it was for the Print Outs to not match. Present Mic then revealed a forth Villain. "This one looks huge" Yugami says. He is correct. Thankfully it is worth zero points.
"Why would they go through the trouble of making a giant robot just to make it worth nothing?" Hana asks a fair question. Though Present Mic doesn't hear it.
"Probably a trap? Like a game to be a challenge for the brave." It makes sense too. Alot of people here look as if they want to take it down or think they can.
"You rockin guys and gals ready to Go Beyond?"
"PLUS ULTRA!"/"Plus Ultra" Higa joins in on Present Mic's rally. Even if quietly.
As everyone is getting moved to there Combat Centers the two say bye to their friend. "It's an individual scoring system. So it'd probably be bad for us to work together." Hana says.
"Yeah. Makes sense with how low the acceptance rate is." Over a thousand applicants are here and only one in every three hundred students are accepted. So like every other year, these people are battling for 30-40 slots.
"We can still have fun though. Let's compete to see who can get more points" Not wanting the exam to feel too serious, Hana's suggestion would make it more fun for the two of them. "Hahaha sure"
"What the-"
"No way"
The two boys as well as everyone around them are stunned by the size of the gate infront of them. "How rich is UA..."
"There's SIX more of these?" It was a baffling realization. That UA built seven cities.
"Hip Urban setting" Hana joked.
They would stay stunned for longer but the large gate began to open.
"Did it glitch out?"
"Excuse me! Do we go now?"
"We should wait"
Other candidates are muttering in confusion. "Heroes aren't always prepared in the real world. Your time has already begun" A gruff voice says overhead.
"Shit"
"Move out of the way!"
The Hero candidates are forced into a clog. The first test: Getting inside safely without harming one another.
Yugami has an easy time, using his Quirk he was able to get by. A few people look on confused, some trip. Though none of it would be blamed on Yugami. So he was able to get inside safely. Rather than stopping right after getting past everyone. He continued further inside. 'After everyone gets inside i don't wanna be competing for points directly.'
He comes up on two 1-Pointers and stops between the two. To any on-lookers it looked as if he teleported out of the way forcing the robots to clash abruptly and destroy eachother.
Though he doesn't stop to celebrate and continues on, getting as high up as he can to look for his next target.
'I won't let him get ahead of me that easily' Netsu says after he noticed Kanzen far ahead of the crowd. 'A movement based Quirk, huh. Cool Kanzen!' "Everyone you might wanna keep your distance" Netsu allerts everyone around him. 'As long as i don't actually harm them i won't be disqualified...I think'. Those close to him notice his body heat rapidly increasing.
"A fire Quirk here?"
"Whoa atleast wait until we've moved!" Other candidates move away quickly. Luckily no one tripped or was harmed by the heat. "Haha whoever said fire?" Even with all the heat he's emitting there is no fire. He quickly gets past everyone. A 1-Pointer at the entrance charges him and he dodges but not away. Instead he dodged into the robot. The metal rapidly heating up causes it to start whistling as it cracks. "I won't lose that easily!"
A short girl took her time getting inside, waiting for the crowd to disperse. She walked around calmly as if looking for something.
"Watch out!"
"You watch it, extra!" A boy flying overhead shouts. Though Kedarui took note of how he was flying and started to chase after him. It took a bit but he stopped to rest after destroying a couple robots. She was panting slightly after catching up.
"What do you want?" The boy asks clearly annoyed. Kedarui just points at a wall. "Huh!?"
"Blow it up" She says. An explosion was his response. "The Statue wants more parts?" He asks. Less like a question and more like he was saying no. Kedarui just runs over to him. He doesn't attack as he knows the rules of the test. Though he's more confused by the fact that she picks up the rubble from his explosion.
"Nevermind, thank you"
"Whatever, don't follow me again." He shouts before exploding off into the sky. Kedarui grabs a nearby part from one of the robots he destoyed and runs off.
Footage of all Battle Centers play in a dark room. One focusing in on the Explosive boy who had helped out the short girl. "1" Someone holds up a card signaling that he was awarded a Rescue Point.
"Really? You think THAT is worth a Rescue Point?" Other judges agreed, but the judge who gave it refused to change his mind. "Incidental help is still help. Assisting another candidate when unneeded is what we're here to reward, right?"
"Still giving that a Rescue Point..."
The other monitors are watching many students. One watches a boy run around almost confused. "Are we sure he should be here? He hasn't even gotten a point". The boy in question has freckles and green hair. He looks too confused to be here.
"He could be waiting for everyone else to get exhausted."
"Waiting in a ten minute battle is a strange plan."
"It would help get Rescue Points. It's not a strategy you see often. But not one that has never been done."
The Judges continue to critique and compliment the Candidates. "That teleporting boy is something as well. Using his Quirk to round up and have the robots destroy eachother is smart."
"All the candidates this year are promising."
"Very true however the real test only begins now." The man who said the ominous line presses a suspicious looking button. In every Battle Center the ground shakes as behemoths of machinery arise from the ground.
As soon as the giant robot appeared it made its presence known by smashing a row of buildings. By the screams and the sounds of Quirks being used en masse. It's obvious that examinees were everywhere.
"WHOA, THIS IS STILL AN EXAM RIGHT?!" A familiar voice shouts in disbelief that UA would make such a terrifying robot.
Yugami runs over to the otherside of the building he's on to look at his friend. "Kanzen!"
"It's the 0-Pointer!"
Hana was gonna rush over to Yugami but he decided it'd be faster to go to Hana. Like walking down a set of stairs Yugami calmly off the building and is on the ground. "Your Quirk is so cool" Hana says. To him it looked as if he teleported to the ground. "How does it work?"
A question Yugami has only been asked a handfull of times in his life. But one he's never enjoyed answering. The specifics are weird. The world Yugami sees with his Quirk is only known to him. 'Describing it is hard and never goes well'
He remembers his time with his Quirk Counselor. "No need to push yourself" Hana says noticing the atmosphere. "Anyways we have bigger issues" He says bringing attention to the current predicament. The
0-Pointer isn't focused on them. But that doesn't mean they can just ignore it.
"We could go to the opposite end of the town and avoid it long enough to rack up points, but."
"I felt that but coming" Hana interrupts laughing. "You wanna rescue people don't you?" He nods. "Even though i know there has to be people watching to make sure everyone's safe." The robot continues to move through the town, destroying everything in its path. Knocking over the collapsed buildings even more.
"Alright alright, now you're making me feel like a bad guy. Let's do this!"
"Run!"
"A-ah!" A candidate ran away but knocked over someone who was in there way. Bad timing as concrete began to fall toward them.
"Hah!" The fallen candidate felt heat rush toward them but was too afraid to open their eyes for a couple of seconds. But when they did they saw Hana's back and the cut and seared concrete around them.
"Nice save, Hana!" Yugami says as he holds an unconscious person. "Her head got hurt pretty badly, can you walk" He asked the person on the ground who nods. "Take her out of here, there's more people around."
"Th-thanks." The two work together. With Hana's Quirk he begins to cut a whole into the broken down buildings. "How big does this need to be again?"
"Just big enough to fit a rabbit" Yugami answers. "It's weird that you can fit into a hole that small. But really useful and cool at the same time!" Yugami smiles at his friends compliment. Afterwards he enters the hole made and while he can't deactivate his Quirk yet he searches around pinpointing the locations where he finds students by tapping gently on the rubble until Hana hears it. Then it's Hana's turn to carefully cut into it like digging holes for Yugami to get out and in, making sure the people inside aren't in any danger.
"I knew we couldn't ignore you forever" Yugami says looking at the giant robot coming at them. "Huh!?" Hana pauses his digging. "You have a plan for that?"
"I'll distract it." Distract it he does. But he doesn't want to involve anyone else in it. "0-POINTER BEHIND ME EVERYONE RUN AWAY!" He shouts constantly as he dashes from building to building. His quirk lowering the distance between them. 'I am in control, this is not a forest. Just a concrete jungle' he thinks while looking at his hands. But for that one moment he lost focus and slips. "O-ow" He grabs his head. Thankfully not alot of blood, just a scratch on his forehead.
"Right the robot!" But just as he thought it, it's glowing eyes(?) gazed into the alleyway he was inside. 'I am so dead'- But just as he thought that the robot started getting attacked by other candidates. "I should repay you for saving me" A girls voice said as he looked out from inside the alleyway. "Thanks, will you be okay?"
"Yeah, don't worry about me."
He would've loved to get the girls name or stay to help fight the giant robot. But he remembered Hana was still helping the others so he ran back to assist. Even though it's not worth any points. He had completely forgotten about that all.

The impact of metal and electricity failing fill the ears of one short girl. "Hmt!" She grunts as she throws another piece of rubble at a nearby 2-Pointer, it damages it but it manages to get in close. She touches it with her hand then slams the metal part in her other against it. Cutting it in half like flesh.
The giant robot overhead doesn't stop her though she just runs into a nearby alley and hides next to the mimicry of trash until it passes by. 'Hide like a Rabbit'
Soon the giant robot passes by leaving destruction behind, like in every other Battle Center.
"H-help!" Someone shouts from the direction the robot just left.
Kedarui walks over and stares down at the student. "Stuck?"
"Yeah my leg, i can't get it out!"
She grabs the mans collar and the concrete directly above him at the same time and starts to lift. Surprisng the man as it moves with ease. "Crawl quickly" she says and he does so, needing no encouragement.
"Th-thanks. Your Quirk is amazing!"
"Only these buildings left to check" Yugami says with clear exhaustion and joy in his voice. "Right and then we can get back to competing."
"Haha"/"Hahaha" The two share a laugh. Again Yugami enters the small hole that looks impossible for him to fit inside. But does it with ease. Tap tap. "Anybody hear me?"
It's become routine for him in these past few minutes. Though to him and his friend it's felt like eternity.
"e"
"er"
He hears snippets of words but they're too muffled. Though he heads in the direction of the sound.
"Over here! Can you hear me?" The voice on the otherside shouts. "Ya we got you. How many?"
"Four" The voice says back and he quickly leaves the crumbled building. "Four more inside, just...over..Here!"
"I don't know if i'll ever get used to how you can get inside places like this" Hana replies as he gets started,
"It's amazing. We really were the perfect team for this." To be honest Yugami hadn't thought about it. But yeah with there Quirks it was a perfect match for this rescue. "We could make a really good rescue team"
"Yeah, though i didn't come to UA to become a Rescue Hero" Hana says stopping for a moment. "I wanna be out there beating up bad guys. Sorry if i got your hopes up with this rescue. It's alot of fun working with you."
Yugami looks at his new friend with a smile. It's common for new heroes to want to be the strongest, like All Might. There's nothing wrong with that and to apologize after going out of his way to help with the rescue for this long. "You're amazing, Hana." He laughs.
"I should be saying that, you're gonna make an amazing Rescue Hero even without me. I'm sure of it."
The two's chat was interrupted by a loud siren, signaling the end of the test.
Neither really said anything about it and continued to rescue the four trapped inside. It's obvious what that means.
"Hey i'm...Sorry" Yugami stops moving as he said it to his friend. "Hm?"
"If i didn't get you caught up in that rescue you could've gotten alot more points." He doesn't respond though and the two just keep walking for a while until "Ya know." This time it's Yugami's turn to not respond and wait for his friend to say what he wants to say. Yugami wasn't thinking he was gonna say anything specific. But if he wanted to stop being friends or get angry. Then he would be okay with that.
"Saving all those people was amazing" he turns around to meet Yugami's eyes. "Their was no reason to do so, yes. But we applied to UA to become Heroes. If we did not save them. Then what type of Heroes would we be"
He begins to smile. Less like what he's saying is just targeted at Yugami but instead at both of them. "If UA wants people who ignore those in danger, then that's there loss. Our ideals matter more."
"I wanted to cheer you up jerk" Yugami felt his eyes get heavy. He wasn't going to cry or say what he thought out loud. 'Thank you'
"So how many points did you get anyways?" Yugami asked.
"Fifteen, you?"
"Fourteen" he slumps his head. "I'm the winner- wait what do i get?"
"A higher chance to get into UA" Yugami jokes seeing as the atmosphere was light.
The two soon reach the plaza and run into Higa. "Hey" she waves to the two of them. "You're looking at the winner" Hana says smugly. "He won't let it go, please tell me you have more than fifteen points"
She holds up five fingers. "Well we didn't do much better than that" But she shakes her head. "Five more. Twenty"
"Ack! My crown" He fake pouts.
The next seven days were spent surprisingly active. For people who thought they'd failed the exams. Though that's due to the fact that the three had exchanged contact information and begun hanging out. There time was usually spent over at Yugami's place since his parents weren't around much. Leaving just him and his older sister home. She was chill with them over as long as they were quiet.
"Yugami!" Normally she just shouted something like 'The weirdos are back!' When referring to his friends. But this time it was just his name. "Yeah?" He replied. She held a letter in her hand. "Umm, do you want me to read it with you?" He shook his head. He knew she was just worried. Even though she doesn't show it.
"Thanks, Yasu" She just walks away, leaving him with the letter in his hands.
It took him a little bit to build up the courage to open it. But when he did, there was four people in Japan at that time thinking they failed the test after exceeding the call to arms that UA asks of its examinees.
"HAHA I am ALMOST DONE WITH THESE!- Right yes. Ahem, hello there young man" He pauses letting the shock that All Might himself, the Number One Hero that everyone respects is delivering the news himself.
"As you know UA is a school for Heroes but we are also a normal school. So you must have the academic ability to attend UA as well. Which you have. You passed the written exam in the top percentile. Congratulations! The mind matters to Heroes just as much as strength, never underestimate it. Now onto the combat portion of your exam. You were only able to score fourteen Villain Points. I'm sorry."
Again he pauses. This time however Yugami isn't filled with surprise but instead sadness. He knew that, he didn't do enough. He's just sad that he had to bring a friend down with him-
"That is if Villain Points were all that mattered. UA is a Hero Academy after all. There were plenty of people watching the exam to make sure no one was in danger, that is correct. But they were also there to award points to people who did righteous deeds even with no reward. You Young man, did an excellent one. While in the time limit you did not rescue everyone you set out to. You did rescue a staggering amount of people. You have also learned a valuable lesson. One many Heroes learn only after becoming a Pro and only when peoples lives are truly on the line. The lesson you learned? Heroes are always on a time limit and they must go beyond to save those in need." He stops as if he was going to move onto the next recording but then remembers.
"OH RIGHT. If it isn't obvious then let me say it: Welcome to UA High!"
