"I'd prefer to drive. I don't like taking the jet. It's not that long of a drive."

"It's thirty hours!"

Packing their bags to head out, Tyler was doing his best to get Liv to fly out to D.C. rather than waste the two days of driving. He knew her fear of flying but hoped she'd be able to get over that soon. For a week they'd been planning how to get to D.C. for the wedding after Liv convinced him to join her and be her buffer.

"You didn't have a problem driving out before. Why now? You better not be chickening out on me!" Liv shouted from her bedroom.

"I'm not chickening out. I just don't want to spend thirty hours in the car. I'd have more fun exploring the city after a five-hour flight and a nap. Come on, Liv. Please? I won't have much time to do any sight seeing after the wedding. Remember? I'm flying out to London right after. Steph is excited to spend some time with me. Can we just fly please?"

Groaning that she really didn't want to, she finished her packing and set the bags in the hallway. "Cyrus and Michael are in D.C. already. I let them use the jet. I suppose I can call the pilot to come get us this afternoon and we'd be there tonight. I'll just need to get Lucas to pick us up from the airport. And I'll need to change our reservations at the hotel."

"You'll be in D.C. before you know it and you can micromanage the wedding in person. Verna will adore you for it. And you can help Jerry from getting cold feet."

"Right, like that would happen. He loves her too much. And if he tried to run, Verna would kill him."

Calling the pilot, Liv made the arrangements for everything to be changed to the new plan. Tyler packed up the car and waited for her to get the message the jet had arrived before they headed off.

While Tyler and Liv were jet setting to the city, Fitz went to Jerry's to help anything he could.

"Hey Verna, is dad around?"

Sitting in the living room, Verna went through her list to make sure she had everything she needed when she heard Fitz come in. "He went to get Cyrus and Michael from the airport and then to get their suit fittings done. I thought you were with him."

"I didn't know they were coming in today."

"Cyrus cancelled his lectures for tomorrow and flew out today. Could you help me pack everything in the car? I want it all loaded for tomorrow morning when we go to set up."

Taking the boxes out to the car, Fitz finished and joined her on the couch. "Guess this means you're not going to change your mind, right?"

Verna laughed at the idea and smiled at him. "It's a bit late for that. Everything's been paid for. There's no refunds and no exchanges. Were you hoping I would?"

"Of course not! Actually, I like seeing you and dad together and happy. It gives me some hope for me and Liv. You and dad were apart for decades and now you're here, getting married in two days. I'm glad I get to see it."

"Me too, Fitz, me too. Jerry is thrilled that you'll be there with him. It's important to him that you two have this relationship mended. He never liked the way you two would fight constantly or ignore his calls. When Olivia was able to bring you two together, I think that was one of the happiest days he's ever had."

"Well, now it will be out ranked. It seems marrying you is all he's ever wanted."

"Life has a way of making things happen you never anticipated. But it's for the better now. He has a fantastic son, my step son to be."

Fitz scrunched his face at the term. "I feel too old to have a step mom. True as it may be, that just seems odd," Fitz laughed. "Can we just say friend?"

"I like that. 'This is my friend, Fitz.' I like that term."

"Me too."

"Well, my friend Fitz, I wonder if I could ask a favor."

"Of course. Anything."

"Don't say that until you've heard it."

"That sounds like trouble. Alright, lay it on me."

"Well, we've gotten to a better understanding, you, and me. And all of our past animosity has been extinguished. I seem to have run into a bit of a dilemma. I do not want to put you out or put a burden on you. I don't want to push you or make you uncomfortable. I know it would be odd to some, I'm sure many wouldn't understand but I would, and I would be incredibly appreciative. And I would ask her, but I know it's very important to Jerry…"

"Are you trying to ask me to hide a body, Verna?" Fitz smirked at her uncomfortableness.

"Never! I'm trying to ask if you would be my man of honor? I know that sounds ridiculous and I wouldn't ask you if you weren't a very important person in my life. In both mine and Jerry's. My friend, Martha was going to be my maid of honor, but she had a fall and broke her hip and is in the hospital waiting for her surgery. I don't want to have Jerry's side up front having two people while I have none. But I don't want to pressure you. You can say no, and there won't be any hard feelings."

Fitz reached out to her and took her hand gently. "Verna, easy. I would love to. I'll be your 'man of honor'. Whatever it is that you need. I can take that. But wouldn't we still be a little lopsided? You have Liv and Kim. Dad had me and Huck. Did something change?"

"Huck and Kim are coming to the wedding but they're not part of it. It's only Javi that is. And you and Olivia. Didn't Jerry tell you about the wedding party?"

"I guess not. He asked me months ago to be his best man. Huck was to be a groomsman. I figured that would mean you have Liv as a bridesmaid with Kim."

Verna shook her head and patted his hand. "This wedding is a bit of an untraditional one. Liv is going to be Jerry's best woman. I thought rather than asking one of my other girlfriends to step in, you should have the title of man of honor. We'll be a ridiculous group title."

"I agree. These all sound crazy and backwards."

Looking over at him, Verna saw his face change to look a little let down. "What's wrong?"

"Did dad not want me as his best man? I thought we were getting along very well lately."

"Oh, yes, he did. This was all me. He doesn't know anything about this. He wants you as his best man, but I'm calling it a favor. You mean so much to him and to me. But you know how he is with Olivia. I love her for bringing the two of us together again. Even under the horrible circumstances that led her to me. I'm glad she will be there for him. Those two are practically joined at the hip. The last couple of months without her here have been hard for him. He worries about her constantly and having her back even if it's only for a couple of days, I think it will help him. Jerry loves Olivia as much as he does you. They just have a stronger bond. I couldn't ask Olivia to be my maid of honor."

"I'm glad you asked me. I would love nothing more than to stand up with you."

"Thank you, Fitz. I deeply appreciate this."

"But I am calling in a favor at the wedding."

"As the bride, I might be a little busy, but I will try my best. What's your favor?"

"Get Olivia to talk to me. I don't care if it's her yelling or screaming or whispering to me. I need to be able to talk to her. I'm so tired of talking to her voicemail."

"If I can get her to talk to you, I will. We both know how stubborn she is. I'll try my best."

Stepping off the steps of the private jet, Lucas waited at the bottom of the stairs to help Liv down. "Good evening, Ms. Pope. How was your flight?"

"As terrible as all the rest of them. If people were meant to fly, we'd have wings like birds," she told him and gave him a half hug. "Good to see you again."

"You too, miss. I've made sure your reservations at the hotel are confirmed and they're awaiting your arrival. Mr. Finch's room is in the adjoining room, as requested."

Trailing behind her, listening to their conversation, Tyler spoke up. "I can get my own room, Liv. You don't need to pay for mine."

"Out of the question, Tyler. You wouldn't be here if I didn't ask you to be. I'll take care of the bills while you're here."

"Does Mr. Grant know you're back early?" Lucas asked while opening the car door for her.

"Neither of them does, and I'd like to keep the younger half from knowing I'm here until absolutely necessary. I'll see Jerry in the morning. I've already made sure that Fitz's schedule for tomorrow is packed with court cases. That will give me enough time with Jerry and Verna to get the ballroom at the hotel arranged."

Getting in the car beside her, Tyler shook his head with a sigh. "I think you're being a bit unreasonable, Liv. Fitz has been calling you every day for three months. He's sorry about what he said to you. You should give him a chance to explain himself in person and then decide if you want to talk to him or not. I'm sure he's let you deck him if you wanted to."

"If I wanted to deck him, I would, and it wouldn't be the higher end of him." Both Lucas and Tyler snickered at the thought. "I'll see him at the wedding for as long as I have to see him and then I'm leaving. As soon as Jerry and Verna take off, I'm right behind them. I won't be the cause of a scene at their big day."

Rolling his eyes, Tyler shook his head and looked at Lucas in the mirror. "Better be on standby, Lucas. You'll have a runaway bridesmaid on your hands."

"I'll be sure to have the car running," he laughed and pulled into the hotel drop off.

"The two of you are not funny," Liv snarked at them before getting out of the car.

Getting checked into the hotel, both went up to their rooms to relax for the rest of the night. After ordering room service dinner, Liv opened her laptop and searched in the calendar for Fitz's schedule for the next day.

Hearing. Motion. Motion. Arraignment. Hearing. Lunch with David. Conference call with Judge Habert. Good, he'll be busy all day while we set up. I'll make my excuses about the rehearsal dinner and avoid him all together. At least until the actual wedding.

Just about to jump in the shower, the harsh knock on the door startled her back. Looking through the peephole of the door, she wasn't too surprised to see the other side and opened the door.

"You said you weren't coming until Saturday. You'd be here first thing Saturday morning. No one said anything about you being here two days before the wedding."

"Hi Cyrus, how are you? Great to see you again. You're good? Me too, glad you could make it up for the wedding. How's Michael? Did you leave him in the hotel room? You should have brought him up." Liv rolled her eyes and closed the door.

"You said you didn't want to see Fitz until you absolutely had to. He's going to know you're here early. Fitz has been wanting to talk to you for months now."

"Well, guess what, I don't want to talk to him."

"He's going to know you're here tomorrow morning. You'll see him when he gets here to help get the ballroom decorated."

"He's not going to be there tomorrow for set up. He's busy until the rehearsal dinner to which I will not be going."

"How do you know?"

"Same as always, I control his schedule. I made sure to keep tomorrow as packed as I could get it."
