The fire was crackling as Lucy stirred hours later rubbing her eyes. "Hey Luce. How you feeling?" "It hell but I will survive. Natsu..how did you know how to do that, where did you learn to do that?" she asked looking over at Nashi who was sound asleep next to Happy. Looking at the fire, he was quiet for a moment before he spoke. "Gildarts showed me some stuff as a kid. When I'd go out on adventures with him. Look Luce, I know I act like a dumbass but I know more than people think I do." She nodded silently in agreement. She knew what people thought of him when they first met him, how she thought of him before she became a part of team Natsu and knew who he truly was.
"I just never had to use any of that stuff since fire doesn't hurt me" She could hear in his voice that he meant every word. "I'm just glad I remembered ..cause things could get a lot worse Lucy" he said gravely. "We're on our own out here…and that means we are going to have to make some decisions..and I don't mean the last second choices we've been having to make." She sighed a heavy sigh looking down understanding what he meant. "I was hoping It wouldn't come to that ..ever again" He grabbed her hand and squeezed it seeing the regret she had in her eyes.
"I know Lucy. I was too but we will do what we have to do to protect ourselves and our daughter" he said firmly. "Yes." She replied , her voice hardening. "I'll be damned before anyone hurts us again" her hands squeezed into fists. "We'll had back to the base in a few hours when the sun comes up. For now, let's try to get some shut eye" "You know that's not likely" "Oh I know" Time passed as Natsu and Lucy made their bunker feel as homely as they possibly could. Their focus was completely on their daughter and protecting their family. Before they knew it, the guild, Fairy Tail became something they no longer thought about. A distant memory.
One year later
Hunting, Natsu grabbed the bear that he had taken down hauling back to the bunker. Reaching the borders of the bunker, a note pinned to a tree nearby caught his attention. Walking over, he yanked the note off the tree not bothering to look yet. "Hey Layla, got food for us" "So I see" "As well a note, or something. I found it attached to one of the tree's out here" "A note, here? From whom?" Getting up from where she was sitting, she walked over leaving Iggy and Happy where they were.
"Here you go" Taking the letter from Natsu, she unfolded it as they both started to read. "You know what this means.." "Tch yeah I know what it means, its nothing good. But the name.." "I know. We need to see if this is true and if it is then we can't hide anymore" Crumpling the letter, Natsu shoved it in his pocket. "Come on, we need to get moving. Time to talk to our old guild mate" Growling, he walked ahead and in the bunker while Lucy and Nashi walked behind him" Packing their stuff up, it didn't take them long before they were ready. Silently ,Nashi looked up at her parents whose hard expressions gave her the impression not to say anything as Happy perched on Natsu's shoulder. "Erza" he muttered with anger while they began their trek back to the place they had called home.
