(A/N I decided to put my responses to prompts all here, though some of them are already listed on my account as separate oneshots like Forget Me Not and In My Head. Some of these I hate despite them being two years old at the most, but I figured I should put them here anyway :P)
Prompt: Past/Highschool (2020)
God damn him.
God damn him and the way he lit up with that precious smile and his emphatic and excited gestures and his permanently pink cheeks and his laugh and his soft hair and his emerald eyes-
Saga's own eyes narrowed as she giggled at something Ritsu had said before she lightly hit his arm in a playful manner.
God damn her!
God damn her for being able to get such reactions out of Ritsu and for touching him whenever the hell she seemed to feel like it and for taking up the time that had always been for him and Ritsu and for a million other reasons Saga decided to suddenly hate her for: her shoes, her bag, the way she walked, the way she checked her phone, Saga could go on forever.
Since when does Ritsu smile for other people like that, anyways? Shouldn't Ritsu be saving those smiles for him? Not to mention, this is why Ritsu had to skip out on their usual library routine? To hang out with some girl? Perhaps Saga was airing on the side of stalker since he was technically following the two without their knowledge, but this would make him and Ritsu even. At least, that's how he reasoned it with himself. Besides he'd be lying if he said he hadn't gotten a little worried yesterday when Ritsu warned he wouldn't be able to hang out today. He feared Ritsu had some sort of troubles at home or with school since he hadn't gone into details, but Saga was both relieved of his worries and ignited with irritaiton when finding out Ritsu flaked to go window shopping with a pretty girl.
It certainly didn't help that they looked so...perfect together. It made Saga's teeth hurt from how sweet of a sight they made as they walked down the street side by side. She suited him perfectly with her perfectly soft features, perfectly put together hair that bounced gently with every perfect step, her perfectly demure and shy demeanor, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect.
He hated it.
He had to convince himself it was a perfect act this girl put on otherwise he'd go mad.
He imagined shattering that stupid perfect mask.
He wanted to crash between them and make a mess out of everything, declare Ritsu as his boyfriend in front of her and the whole street, drive her off, make her angry, make her frown and muss up her hair in frustration and stomp her feet like a toddler throwing a tantrum, he wanted to force what he thought to be her true nature forward by kissing him right then and there to piss her off before taking Ritsu to his house where it would just be them, because it was always just them.
But that was rude.
...
Saga didn't care.
"Oi, Ritsu." Saga easily caught up, the two underclassmen having been leisurely strolling and taking their time.
Ritsu nearly jumped out of his own skin as his face turned red at that familiar deep voice, a reaction Saga expected, but still a sight that warmed his heart. He only hated that he had to share it with her.
"S-S-Saga-senpai!" Ritsu exclaimed, eyes wide with wonder and mouth slightly agape, as though seeing the upperclassman outside school was an impossibility.
Saga smirked.
Cute.
"Eh, Ri-chan? Is this a friend of yours?"
Saga's mouth tugged down slightly at the sound of the dainty voice reminding him that he and Ritsu were not alone. And just who the hell did she think she was addressing his boyfriend so damn casually?
"Oh! Um-yes-An-chan this is Saga-senpai. Saga-senpai, this is An-chan, a childhood friend of mine." Ritsu smiled brightly, seemingly unaware of the older teen's broodiness.
Childhood friend...in those shojou mangas Saga read from time to time the childhood friends always ended up together what with the pounding hearts, dramatic confessions, and eventually the white wedding. But that was just fiction, he tried to tell himself. He didn't have anything to worry about! But still, Saga couldn't do away with the ache in his chest.
"It's so nice to meet a friend of Ri-chan's!" An smiled, bringing Saga out of his spiraling thoughts. He supposed it might be cute to others, but for the upperclassman it was taking all his effort not to scowl.
"Uh, yeah." He mumbled. "You too."
"What are you doing here Senpai?" Ritsu asked curiously before quickly backpedaling. "N-Not that I'm not happy to see you! Y-You're just always at the library after school!"
Saga shrugged, trying to look as casual as possible. "Got bored." The without you is silent but Saga is too proud to admit it and Ritsu is not confident enough to assume such a thing to be true.
Still, Ritsu was smart enough not to fully buy it.
"Eh? You're just as much of a bookworm as me, I never thought I'd hear you say you were bored of the library." Ritsu laughed, his tone light hearted, but Saga could feel that his kohai was attempting to sneakily extract something from him.
Or maybe Saga was too easily suspicious of people and their intentions...or it could be his stalker behavior was starting to form something akin to guilt inside him and was seeking an excuse to confess.
Again, Saga just shrugged, putting his hands in his pockets as he tried not to glare in An-chan's direction. Ritsu seemed to let it go, not pressing further.
"Well, do you want to join us? We're just walking around and looking in shops." Ritsu offered with a smile and then Saga saw it; a crack in that picture perfect face of An-chan's.
She didn't want him to join. Oh sure, she didn't outwardly say anything, that kind of rudeness would completely crumble her perfection. Still, he managed to spot a brief grimace flash across her face as she shuffled closer to his boyfriend, as if she were afraid he was going to steal Ritsu away.
And he planned to do exactly that.
"Sure." He answered calmly, making Ritsu beam. The best An-chan could offer was a polite smile that seemed to strain her not-so-perfect-after-all face.
Maybe this made Saga a bad boyfriend; inserting himself into Ritsu's time with his friend like this. Maybe it made Ritsu a bad friend; the way he had all his attention on Saga now rather than the person he had originally made plans with. Either way, Saga couldn't really bring himself to care.
When it came to Ritsu, he'd always be selfish.
