American sorcery
Part- prologue
This is a slight idea I came up with, and have been contemplating over it. Most of the story thinking isn't done yet and I'll come back to it later when I'm done so this is only a prologue.
I don't own Jujutsu Kaisen, or any work of Gege Akutami, or shounen.
Cursed energy was never suppressed only in Japan, and now, thousands of years later, curses are found all around the world, including America. We now follow the sorcerers of America in the modern day. And all the sinister evils that await them.
The beautiful city of Los Angeles California, La, was really one of those cities where you couldn't really predict what would happen. Homeless in every nook and cranny, shootings, and enough drugs being disrupted to poison elephants to death. But it wasn't all bad; it had its fun moments. Because, as some La people would say,
'La is the capital of America.
But as we move in close to a public high school, you would see a giant cage like a prison, with a fence surrounding an outside area for students. But honestly, who could guess it was a prison? The architects really didn't put enough effort into the design of the thing.
The whole school interior from the outside was just a 2 by 2 rectangle with 3 floors, with stairs on the inside leading to each floor.
But no one would blame the architects; the school was located in a very low-income area, which left the construction on a thin budget to get things done.
But there was one student within the school who was caught in this school and now is studying within its confines, as we enter the school and see the boy.
The day was rough on the boy; high school really does take a lot out of you, especially if the same boy didn't have much sleep during the day. So much so that the boy was asleep. Well, the boy would waste time by himself, however with the mixture of sleep deprivation and the added bonus of hearing the same lecture of math that he was pretty sure he heard her say for the last week, really was the last straw, and then came the snooze fest.
"Wake up Amal!" The noise of his all too familiar math teacher. He to this day doesn't know how a single math class is capable of making so many fall asleep. But this one teacher… This one and only class, can even make the most studious of students fall right asleep.
"Ah yes, I wasn't asleep at all." Amal getting ready for what may come next.
Getting up, the relative 6-foot boy, with tan skin, blackish gray hair, and long sort of unkempt hair. But the boy was just wearing a white shirt with a splash of blue on it and loose jeans on him. The boy's body was decently defined, but still could use some work.
"Amal, you know if you sleep in class, you won't learn anything." The teacher is now getting ready to scold the boy.
"Miss,"(it's not my fault you can't make this class more interesting)" ."Well, if you look at the class, half of them are asleep." Amal thought then changed his words.
"Wait what!" The teacher looks around and nearly sees half the class in sleep.
But before anything can be done, the bell rings, with all the students simultaneously waking and leaving the class for the rush hour rush for the cafeteria opening for lunch.
"Wait, you're only dismissed if I say!" All too futile. The students were gone within seconds of the bell, and Amal was gone himself.
Getting there quickly enough, Amal was able to get there before the lines formed. From Amal's experience , if you don't get to the cafeteria in time, goodluck luck ever getting your food, because the only way you are is by cutting the line.
But in either case, Amal was able to get his food.
Moving to the large, open-air cafeteria area, with a large number of students going on with their day during lunch break, and a line being formed to the canteen. But Amal had other plans for this day; instead of going to hang with his small friend group, he would go to a more secluded area of the school so he could see it again.
Moving along the school and finding an empty area of the inside of the school The area was under a staircase that barely anyone uses or passes by nowadays. The area was extremely dirty, with trash everywhere—just perfect for what Junsei was looking for. To boot, the entire place was dark, with enough space to move around with little difficulty.
Standing there was Amal, waiting for something particular to happen. But after several minutes went by and nothing happened, Amal got bored waiting and almost decided to leave. But just before he started leaving, a noise could be heard.
"Disgusting… Hate it… Vomit." An eerie voice can be heard, just from the dark corner of the staircase.
What was there before Amal's eyes stood a creature, the thing was as big as a large dog, with it being on all 4 floors on its feet. The thing was completely bear skinned, with no head, but a massive eye coming from the middle of where the neck should be. The skin of the thing was a vile purple dark color, but that eye was more terrifying than anything else.
"This one is even bigger." Amal is shocked by something new he sees.
However, Amal was already aware of what he was looking at. And that was it—it was a ghost. Or that was his own theory on the matter. He still wasn't 100 percent sure what those things were, but nearly every day he was trying to find out, and this was one of those days.
But what Amal didn't see coming was the creature opening a mouth from just at the bottom of its eyes.
"Jesus!" Amal didn't see that one coming, starling him even more.
But what's more, the creature is now running at Amal and coming pretty quick, obviously trying to attack Amal.
Amal did panic for just a second, but quickly stepped forward, raising an arm and getting into a fighting stance. And focusing his aura like energy coming from his body.
The creature lunged at Amal, and opened its vile mouth, showing sharp teeth in the interior.
As it flew through the air, getting ready to bite Amal at the moment, Amal focused an energy of his own right into his fists. Then Amal, with a right hook, swung to the side of the creature's stump area, sending it flying to the side of one of the walls under the staircase.
'Crash'
The noise of the creature can be heard splating on the wall.
"Why is this one so violent, and big?"
For Amal, this one was way more violent than the other ghost creatures he's encountered. But hopefully that punch was enough to put it out of commission.
But to his dismay, the creature got up on its legs, looking even more vile than it was before. Now it was even more angry than ever.
"That wasn't enough?"
Amal was shocked now. From his previous encounters with them, he learned that they usually burst into flames after one good punch from his energy-enhanced fists. But all of the others were way smaller than this one. About the size of a beaver or smaller. So this one was the biggest among them all.
"Wanna vomit!" The creature screeches out in anger.
"Yeah, I heard you for the first time. Now, can you just not talk? Your voice sounds like a very heavily untuned violin, mixed with a rabies-infected raccoon."
Amal tries in vain to get the thing to not scream anymore. But it was a shot.
"UGGHHHH!" The creature looked like it was ready to attack again at any moment.
Amal stood there in a defensive stance, getting ready for it to come towards him in a lunge again.
But right after Amal got into his stance, the creature simply opened its mouth, almost like it was going to do something.
'BLAH' The sound can be heard as the creature vomited a dark, viscous substance from its mouth. Which came right at Amal.
"OH SHi…" Amal didn't have any time to finish that word before the vomit hit him dead on.
As the vomit came, just before it hit Amal in the middle of his body, Amal was able to move a little to the right. But it didn't miss; it hit Amal's left arm.
"AHhh!..." Amal leaped out in pain.
Whatever just hit Amal's arm left a sizzling feeling that burned away at his skin. It was enough to leave Amal in intense pain. And enough for Amal to recoil from the pain.
"Dammit!" Amal yelled out.
The vomit was still on Amal's arm, and had to get rid of it quickly before it did more damage to him. The feeling only got worse as the seconds went by.
So Amal quickly shaked his entire arm rapidly, in hopes of getting rid of it. Which worked well enough to get rid of the black vomit, and leave it all on the floor.
Looking with his eyes at his arm and assessing the damage, Amal could see that his now-left arm was left completely red, with some spots bleeding out with the damaged skin.
"You piece of filth. What are you supposed to be either way?" Amal was now angry about this whole situation.
'Gul' 'Gul' 'Gul' The creature yelped in amusement.
"Oh… Now you're enjoying this. I see." Amal was done with this. The anger can be seen in Amal's eyes, which frightened the creature a little.
Amal is now gathering more of his energy, nearly bursting out of him.
Amal dashed right in front of the creature and stood just to the side of it, kicking the thing with all his might in the stomach, which sent it right up several feet into the air.
As the creature went up, And down. Amal hit it right as it came falling down. Hitting its stomach again, but with his fist filled to the brim with energy.
'Crash'
The creature was heard by Amal as it was hitting the wall again, now lying on the ground. Amal was sure he could feel its bones crack as he hit them during the fight.
But Amal wasn't done; it didn't burst into flames like the other, so he walked up to it and couched just below it, sitting on it.
'BAM'
The sound of fists can be heard, as Amal kept Hitting the creature over, and over, and over, and over, again.
There wasn't any form, or style in the way he hit the creature. But Amal was only just wailing on the thing.
But with every punch soon blood would come out from the creature. A very deep purple blood. Which assured that Amal was making progress killing the thing.
"(Die already, you filthy demogorgon-looking monster.)" Amal taught during his beating of the creature and his interpretation of similarities in its appearance.
The beating lasted just a couple of seconds more, as one last strike of his fists caved into its body, leaving a hole right in its whole body. Which assured Amal that he killed it.
Now standing up in a bloody mess of its own blood that was left behind after its dead corpse, Amal looked at the creature, and seconds later it burst in blue flames disintegrating right before his eyes, which left only ash right on the floor of where it perished.
Looking back at the ash pile, Amal was left thinking to himself that was the difference of this one from the others he's met.
It was about 3 to 4 months ago that he was able to see these things.
It was around noon when Amal was walking along a very shady street in LA. His own reasoning was just boredom.
And it was during the night that Amal would explore the streets of La; if he was careful, he shouldn't be attacked by some bum. Well, that's what he hoped for.
But Amal was able to find a back alley; however, as Amal went into the alley that piqued his interest, one of the walls had astounding graffiti art on the sides of the walls. It was a beautiful painting of a woman holding a bouquet of roses; the lines were sharp and finely made, with all proportions being perfect and a great color tone. But as Amal could see if he zoomed into the roses, the roses had smoke coming from them, as if the roses were catching fire. From Amal's interpretation, the artist may have been trying to catch a feeling of love, and the burning roses were perhaps a way to show that love either burns away or doesn't last. Amal wasn't sure about that; he would need to ask the artist what he meant to say in the piece.
As Amal kept thinking over the art piece, just at the corner of his eyes was a small floating winged insect, with antennas, however it had a face of a human. It was probably a big 4 year old infant.
"(What the hell.")
It freaked out Amal. But was he hallucinating or something?
Amal didn't have time to think over that question as the insect human creature rushed at him.
"OH GOD!" Amal screamed out.
Freaked out and startled, Amal quickly smacked it with the side of his hands, sending the thing flying into a wall. But to his detriment, it looked like it did absolutely no damage to it.
Still freaked out, Amal just runs away as far as he can.
"(What in Jesus Christ was that?! Whatever it was i'm not dealing with it.)" Those were Amal's thoughts as he ran down the alley, and got back to the main streets.
Breathing in very tired from the run, Amal's only thoughts were about the situation of the whole event.
"What. Was. That?" Now Amal is finally calming down after a few minutes have passed.
Staring back on where he ran from, Amal couldn't help himself of his own curiosity, and started thinking possibilities of what that was.
Like thoughts of whether the creature was real or not. But according to his own evidence, he saw that there was a bruise left over on his hand, concluding he must have hit something.
Looking away from his hand now, Amal can only ponder on what it really was.
"(Was it a bat? Wait, do bats live in LA? And bats are in no way that big. And its face. Did it have a human face? Dammit, i can't remember.)" Amal was now left scratching his head.
But at this point, curiosity had taken the better of Amal. He just wanted to know what that was. A monster, a bat, or an insect He wanted to know. Taking a step forward now, Amal started walking back to the same street he spotted the creature.
Amal always knew the quote, 'curiosity always killed the cat.' But at this moment, he simply forgot.
After walking a little bit, Amal was back at the alley where that graffiti art was.
But after some time of looking back and forth, there was no sight of the creature.
"(God, am I hallucinating? Damn, I think I'm just swinging at random things at this point.)" Amal wasn't sure if it was real or not at this point.
"*sigh*" Well, it doesn't matter, I think." Amal was ready to leave.
Walking along back to the street, but as soon as Amal turned around, the creature-like insect was right in front of his face.
"OH JESUS!" Amal yelled out as he backed away. Now, with a face-wide view of the creature, he noticed the whole appearance, which included the head.
"What are you?" Amal nearly commented out.
The creature did not respond back, but only started flying towards Amal again.
"Oh hell no, get away; you're disgusting." Amal nearly wanted to vomit at it, looking at the thing; that just hurt him. But as these thoughts and emotions came from Amal, he slowly noticed a glow in his body.
"Huh, what is this?" Amal noticed the glow. Now even more confused.
But time wasn't at his leisure, because the creature started to come right at Amal again, seeming ready to attack.
The insect human opened its mouth, probably in an attempt to bite Amal in some way. Saliva could be seen as it gypped its mouth open.
At this moment, it was the moment of truth for Amal. He was not going to let this thing bite him. God be damned if he did.
Now, Amal raised his arm in a stance, with the glow still coming from his body. And as the creature approached, Amal squarely hit it right in the face. Blowing the creature in a big explosion of purple blood And splattering the creature on an adjacent wall of the alleyway.
"What did I just do?" Amal questioned the event; he was mostly just going by instinct there. But now his whole right hand was covered in purple, like blood.
"EWW!" The purple immediately put Amal into a state of disgust, but he then turned back to the leftover remains that were left over from the creature.
'Crackle' The noise of a fire going off caused Amal to go wide-eyed at the event. This day couldn't get any stranger than it could... Could it?
Well, it did get stranger. Because from that day on, Amal would see creatures just like that, but in different forms, something a little bigger, smaller, and looking different. The creepiest was that of one that looked like a fusion between a slug and a dog.
But with all these events passing by, Amal was able to form his own theories on the matter.
The first was that these things were ghosts. He realized this first after trying to show one of his friends the ghost creatures. But soon after, the friend thought he'd gone crazy, which made Amal conclude that, for whatever reason, he could only see the ghost's.
And second was the aura that went around his body. This confused him for a while, but first, having this aura was probably the thing that allowed him to see the ghosts. And also, this energy may be connected to his emotions, more specifically his negative emotions. Because whenever Amal experienced some negative emotion, like stress, his aura would spike up. But soon after this conclusion, Amal realized nearly everyone had some sort of energy in them, but unlike Amal's more controlled aura that was kept in his body, others would leak out into the atmosphere. So maybe having control over this energy and having abundance allowed a person to see the creatures.
And the last was that the only way to kill the ghosts was by hitting them with a strike enhanced by the energy. This was theorized at the beginning with the fight against the fly ghost. So normally, hitting them produced absolutely no damage, and hitting them with the energy did damage. And this energy would enhance his physical abilities in many ways, and the more that came from him, the more his abilities would go up, making Amal's daily life a bit easier. But Amal never used it for any extracurricular activities, such as sports. Because that wouldn't be fair for anyone else, and secondly, that would kill the process of getting fit naturally on his own.
There he only theorizes on the matter, but more would be needed.
Well that's what Amal thought. But that was before this latest one.
…
Back to the aftermath of the fight against the dog-looking creature, with Amal standing there with his damaged left arm, all bloody from the leftovers of the ghost.
Amal was breathing heavily, still a little stunned by the event. This one, for whatever reason, was way bigger than the others he's encountered. And he actually might have died there.
'Huffing' "Jesus. That was too close. That thing might have bit my head off there." Amal recounts the events.
Looking back at himself, Amal realized that his whole body was now covered in the creature's purple blood.
"AHHH Dammit! I didn't want this again." This may be the 5th time he has been covered in ghost blood.
But before anything else, Amal checked his arm condition.
"Yeah, that's bad." Amal spoke to himself about his arm, which now was too covered in purple blood, and his own, coupled with rashes too.
"(Better clean myself up first, then get this treated." Amal thought about what to do.
Things went by fast as Amal waited for everyone to get to class after lunch ended, so Amal could go to a secluded bathroom and change with spare clothes. So after getting that sorted, he quickly ditched school because there's no way Amal wouldn't cause suspicion with his arm. He did ponder that he may have hidden it with a coat, but the pain was getting to him after the adrenaline was running out. He also thought of going to the nurse. But what the hell is the nurse going to do? The best the nurse could do is probably slap a bandage on it. Or call an ambulance, which neither Amal nor his family would be able to afford.
So after exiting school very sneakily, Amal made his way to a local pharmacy.
So after spending some of his leftover cash from his job, Amal was able to afford a steroid cream for his injury. Putting it on with some conforming bandages around his arm, the effects were enough for the pain to disappear.
After getting the semi-surgery performed on himself, well, if you called bandaging yourself a surgery, then he was already a professional doctor. So with that done, Amal sat on an outdoor cafe chair and looked at the streets of Los Angeles. It was afternoon now, so he could just go back home. But knowing his mother's work schedule, he wouldn't see her until midnight.
Sitting there for a couple more minutes Amal's curiosity started getting the better of him.
"(Maybe i should go back?)" Somewhere deep down in Amal's heart, he wanted to see if more of those creatures were around the school. He knew he had his injury on him, but that did not concern him much.
"(Well if I meet another big one, I'll just run for my life... Yeah that'll work.)" Hindsight 20/20 This plan was probably stupid, but curiosity got the better of Amal, and he started his journey back to school.
...
Walking back there, the journey didn't take long, and now Amal was right in front of the school. It was already the early night, and now school was closed at all ends. Getting out was hard enough for Amal, but getting in. Now that's a different issue.
So as Amal moved along the outside of the school, there weren't any visible ways that Amal could get in.
"Hmmm? Maybe I can jump the fence?" Those were Amal's thoughts on the matter. So moving to the sides he found the fence that led into the outdoor area of school, the same one where students are at when getting their food.
Once getting there he noticed the fence, it was as big as he remembered. 20 feet in the air, with barbed wire on the top.
"And they say school isn't a prison." The irony was great in Amal's eyes.
And without future ado, Amal began climbing. Climbing the fence didn't take that long. With a bit of his enhanced energy, it was a breeze. And the barb wire didn't affect him in the slightest, because just enhancing his body was enough to keep his body from getting all scratched up.
So after getting to the other side of the fence, Amal jumped down to the ground, making it in the school again.
"Feels weird being here without anyone around."
The cold breeze was unnerving to call it, almost like a foreboding event may come.
"Achooo! Ah… Well, better get exploring." The nerves disappear
Walking along the school Amal noticed immediately that there were no ghost creatures in sight. Even in darker places, they were all gone.
"Stange." Amal Squinting about the whole no ghosts event.
"(I'll just walk around then. Then leave)" Amal is now shrugging his shoulders.
After several more minutes of walking aimlessly, and getting no results in the process, Amal was done, and ready to leave. Because now it was getting really dark.
"Well I'm leaving." Amal got ready to leave.
Getting ready to turn back and hope back over the fence, Amal turned back, only to see a massive 15-meter creature. It was a shade of dark green, with one eye in its head, muscular. And it looked like one of those Japanese oni's you see in stories.
"HOLY SHI-" Amal couldn't finish the word before the creature smacked Amal with the side of its hand. Amal could barely perceive the incoming blow and could only raise his arms in defense.
That didn't help much, because now Amal was being sent flying across the school, hitting a nearby wall, specifically the nearby gym. Amal was now caved into the concrete of the wall, bleeding from the head, and knocked unconscious for a second before waking up.
"Eh… What… Oh right. I just got launched by a big one." Amal was definitely dazed and out of it. But he would have been worse off if he hadn't protected himself with his energy at the last second.
"AH Dammit…" Amal was now trying to get up, but in the process, he felt like a sack of bricks.
"(I don't think anything major was damaged, or that's the adrenaline talking. But I need to get out of here quickly." That was Amal's plan, but trying to move was found to be more difficult than he expected, and Amal could barely take a step.
This was bad. Amal tried his best, but then he slipped back on the ground again, and everything went dark for Amal.
"(Am i going to die.)"
There wasn't anywhere Amal could see to get out of this now. Because now the giant creature was walking toward him, laughing at the new amusement it had found.
"(I guess this is it… You know, I did give a lot of crap about this life, but deep down, I think I enjoyed it.)" An image of his mother popped into Amal's head. She was beautiful. Long blond hair, and a caring smile too. She was always trying her best for Amal, and Amal tried to support her too. She never forced Amal too much, but she always supported his hobbies and believed in Amal's passions. He really couldn't ask for better. But Amal was now afraid of leaving her too soon.
"(Sorry mom… I'm leaving you so soon. Hopefully, you won't be too upset. But who's going to meet you when you get back?") Those were his favorite memories as a child. He would always wait for his mother to get back from work and greet her with a hug.
But now…
Now…
Now.
NOW!
"OH HELL NO!"
" I'M NOT DYING NOW!"
"I STILL HAVE A LIFE TO LIVE!"
"AND YOU AREN'T TAKING IT"
A new-found energy came from Amal, and he rose back up, ready to either kill the creature or distract it enough to get away.
It was do-or-die time. And Amal was going to risk it to win and survive.
"DAMN!... a semi-grade 1. Maybe grade 1 if you highball it. Oh, by the way, you're alive there." A voice can be heard just behind the creature now.
Turning to the side of the creature, Amal could see a dark-skinned man slowly approaching the creature.
"Hey, you big guy! How about you fight someone like me? What'll you say?" The man has caught the attention of the creature now.
And it turned around, ready to attack. Laughing again and smiling, the creature raised its arms, ready to smash the man with its fists in one blow.
"Watch out!" Amal screamed and yelled out for the man. But then I noticed energy coming from the man. It was almost like his own.
Smiling now and pointing at the creature, the man speaks.
"The night erodes
For the frog gave their croak,
So may the curse explode.
Good day, good night,
Now begone from my sight."
The man finished his short rhyme and poem. Shortly after, the creature violently started to shake and then, a second later, exploded in a magnificent burst of flames right before Amal's eyes.
"What the…?" Amal was left confused.
The event just left Amal confused. and in this state, the man began approaching Amal. And then he asked a question with a serious tone.
"You a curse user or sorcerer?"
"Huh?"
Well, I was working on this story mostly in the back of my head. But I haven't fully finished really brainstorming the whole plot of this. But just except a completely new story of The JJK, you know. Of course, this is based in the same universe, but in an AU.
I think this idea is great, and I can't wait to expand the story more and add more characters to it. And the world-building opportunities I have at my disposal are actually infinite and exciting. kind of likes a spin-off. Well I wouldn't say a spin-off, but ill to kind of try to treat this story as one. So look at for the new world of Jujutsu Kaisen
But don't accept any of the main cast. Yet.
Well, see you for now, and good day.
