It has been a very long time since I posted. I know. Senior year is insane. I'm co-directing a full length play, working, and trying to finish my classes lol.

This isn't part of the Window series, just a one-shot I wrote awhile ago and just got around to editing it.

There's no warning for this one, just some Shawn and Turner feel goods.

We all know Jon adopting Shawn should have been endgame.

Please enjoy!

He'd called Feeny first. He wasn't sure exactly why Feeny was the first person he'd told the good news.

Shawn had gotten into college. He'd also told him he didn't know if he would accept. Feeny had been surprisingly supportive.

But this next phone call made him the most nervous.

And now he was standing with a phone number scrawled on a piece of paper. His mind was whirring with all of the different possibilities.

He could not pick up. He could not want to hear from Shawn. He could not care about Shawn's accomplishments. But… the worst outcome was that he could be disappointed in him. And Shawn didn't know what he would do if that was the case.

Three rings in and Shawn almost hung up. Before he could end the call, a voice froze him in place.

"Jonathan Turner."

Shawn closed his eyes, surprised to feel so many conflicting emotions.

"Hello? Is this one of those prank calls? Look, I don't want to buy a toaster, the one I have is perfectly fine."

"Oh, sorry," Shawn couldn't help a small laugh breaking through. "Uh, hey Jon."

There was a pause "Hunter? That you?"

"Yeah, yeah it's me." Shawn ran his free hand through his hair. "How are ya?"

"Good, good. It's been awhile."

"Yeah… what've you been up to?"

"Not much. Teaching. I admit life's not as interesting without you sleeping through my class. You graduate this year right?"

"Yeah, uh," Shawn cleared his throat. "That's actually why I called."

"Yeah? You're not dropping out are ya?"

"Uh, yeah, well no. No, I'm not dropping out. I- well I just got a letter from Pennbrook."

The smile practically translated over the phone. "Yeah and?"

"I got in. I-I actually got accepted to college." For the fist time it really seemed to sink. He'd made it. He never really expected to get to this point.

"Alright Hunter! I knew you could do it!" The excitement was contagious. It momentarily soothed his fears.

"I know you did." He agreed with his own smile. "Even when no one else thought I could, you did."

"Well you're a smart kid, Hunter. You never did give yourself enough credit. So what's been going on with your? Other than getting into college. You still with your parents "

Shawn laughed. So much had changed since Turner's accident. "Nah, I'm living with my brother. My mom took off again and Dad… well Dad told me to find a new place to live. But hey, I'm living with my long lost rich half brother in his cushy apartment so life's not all bad."

"Wait, Chet through you out?" The smile was gone.

"You know my dad." He shrugged. "But, that's not what I called about." Shawn laughed. "I'm good, Jon. I'm in a good place. Living with my brother and… and Eric oddly enough."

Jon laughed, but it sounded forced "That's something alright. So Penbrook."

"Yeah…" Shawn paused, then the words he'd been afraid to say spilled out. "I don't know that I want to go."

There was a beat of silence that seemed to last an eternity. Then finally. "Okay." It was said without judgment. It was the calm, cool, Turner that Shawn needed. "If you didn't go to college, what would you do?"

"Well, I have this gig right now working at a photography studio. He said that if I went full time he'd teach me how to do it myself. It's.. cool."

"If that's what you want to do, then I say go for it."

That was not the advice that he was expecting.

"So you don't think I need to go to college?"

"I think everyone is different and you need to do what's best for you. But Shawn, make sure it's what you really want."

'What do you mean? Of course it's what I want."

"I just mean, make sure that if you're running it's towards something and not away from everything."

Shawn opened his mouth to answer but didn't know what to say. Instead of an answer it was a quiet whisper. "I still can't believe I got in."

"I always believed in you."

"I know that and… it meant more to me than… Jon, would you be… disappointed if I decided not to go?"

"I could never be disappointed in you, Shawn."

Shawn laughed. "I don't know about that."

"Trust me. I haven't been disappointed yet, and I'm not going to start because you choose not to go to college. I think you can do it. I think you'd be great at it. But I want you to be happy, Shawn. If that means skipping the middle steps and getting a job, I'll support you."

"Cory won't." He didn't mean to voice his doubts. He hadn't even talked to his friend yet but he knew what he would say. Cory had this fantasy of them all going to the same college and just continuing like nothing had really changed. Highschool part two.

"Cory…" Turner gave a chuckle. "Cory is Cory. He thinks he knows what's best for you and, don't get me wrong, he's a great kid. A great friend. But he's not you. No one is you Shawn. And I don't know exactly what's going on with this brother but I've gotta assume it's not the worst situation you've been in. So you're already making something of yourself. You're graduating highschool. You got into college whether you decide to go or not. You're goin' places, kid."

Shawn was speechless, feeling overwhelmed by the encouragement conveyed through the phone. He should have made this call a long time ago. Sometimes he asked himself why he didn't stay in touch with his former guardian. Deep down he knew the truth. It was easier to stay away than to risk disappointing him.

"I miss ya man." The words surprised him, but it was true. He sometimes missed Turner even more than he missed his dad..

The silence on the other end made him rethink. Maybe Jon didn't feel the same way. Maybe he was secretly disappointed. But then there was a shaky breath. "I miss you too, Shawn. I'm glad you're doing well. I wish I had- Well… Don't hesitate to call. Just because I'm not your guardian anymore doesn't mean that I don't care, alright? I'm just a phone call away."

"Got it."

"Let me know what you decide, but I'll be proud of you regardless of what you choose."

"Thanks, Jon. For everything."

"Well you better go talk to that friend of yours and don't let him make your decisions for you."

"You know," Shawn grinned, "we never did take that trip to Europe… Senior trip?"

"Well the deal was that you kept your grades up…"

"Hey man, I'm graduating and got into college. You can't argue with grade's like that!"

Jon laughed. "Alright, I'll see what I can do."

"Sweet." Shawn found himself not wanting to hang up the phone, but the silence had stretched long enough that he knew he had to. "Goodbye, Jon."

"Thanks for calling, Hunter. You'll never know just how proud of you I am."

Shawn listened as the line clicked.

It didn't matter what decision he made.

Jon wasn't disappointed in him.

He'd made Jon proud.

And no matter what happened next in his life, that was enough.
