Bella´s Blind Date
What's sadder than a dressed-up woman sitting by herself in a fancy restaurant, obviously waiting for a man that did not show up? Probably a million other things, but Bella couldn´t name a single one of them.
She tried to discreetly stare at her borrowed, way too expensive silver watch for what felt like the millionth time that evening. However, the outcome was unfortunately still the same.
Her date, Edward Antony Masen, was late.
She sighed. If she could wait for over half an hour, she could spare a few minutes more. But if after five minutes he still didn´t show, she would leave this too-expensive restaurant in the most gracious way she could manage.
It was a shame, actually, Bella thought as she took in her surroundings. The Italian restaurant Edward picked out, La Bella Italia, was well-loved among the richer demographic of Port Angeles. Their wine card was exquisite and their mushroom ravioli one of the best in the whole state of Washington, if she had to believe her best friend Alice, or any food blogger she occasionally read. And damn it, after the week she just had, she really wanted to enjoy a hot plate of comfort food and a chilled glass of wine. The company, she wasn´t exactly keen on, but she couldn´t have it all, she supposed.
Bella glanced over at her watch again. Four minutes. If Edward wouldn´t show up in exactly four minutes, she would leave.
Her loosely curled hair fell in front of her, and as she pushed it back with her freshly manicured hand, the waiter watched her with pity she did not quite deserve.
Because Edward Antony Mason actually did not have a date with her, Bella Swan. Edward probably didn´t even know who Bella was, even though she knew everything about him Alice and she could find with one quick and tipsy Google search last night.
No, Edward had the honours of having a blind date with Alice Cullen, daughter of Carlisle Cullen, chief doctor of Forks and therefore a well-respected man in the community. A respect he wanted to pass on to his daughter, so after a long period of constant fighting, Alice finally managed to land a position in the prestigious medical program of Seattle University.
Her full-time best friend and part-time roommate had a lot of great qualities, but unfortunately for Carlisle, having a passion for the medical field or being heterosexual wasn´t two of them. He would find those out soon enough because Alice was the most fashionable lesbian icon Bella had ever met. She had the ability to make the nicest dress out of literally anything and the gown Bella wore tonight was an example of that. Too bad the afford had been wasted, as Edward had only three more minutes left to arrive. Bella almost hoped he wouldn´t show up, what a story that would be!
She smiled to herself, took her glass and drank a tiny sip of her water, one of the only things she could afford on the menu. She let her eyes wander a bit before they fell on her watch again. Two more minutes. If she wanted to catch the next bus, she´d better pay and leave, so she tried to catch the attention of the nearby waiter.
Because Bella was seated next to the window, the most romantic and noticeable seat in the whole restaurant, because that´s the kind of luck she had, she saw the stupid, shiny, silver Volvo park outside of the restaurant.
She knew exactly whose car that was, because Google was your best friend if you´re an imposter, pretending to be your best friend on her blind date.
It was Edward´s.
He was here.
Game on.
Bella sat straighter in her chair and smiled seductively. This was the part of the evening she equally dreaded and liked most; the part of the evening where she had to pretend to be Alice.
But not just normal Alice, but an unfriendly and different version of Alice, so that the men who get sent on blind dates with her don´t want a second one. It was a challenging role she had to play, but Bella could imagine it might be harder for Alice to come out of the closet to Carlisle at once. Alice hadn´t had the heart to disappoint anyone, so Bella gladly took her spot on nights like these.
After all, who could say no to a night of good food and excellent wine?
The door opened, and Bella impatiently waited for Edward´s arrival. It was showtime. But what she did not expect, was that the pictures online didn´t do him any favours. No, the pictures online did not show how his blue buttoned-up shirt clung to his chest muscles, or how bright his teeth were. Or how his freshly cut hair shone in the dimly lit restaurant lights, or how his posture demanded immediate attention. Bella swallowed. The evening immediately became a whole lot harder.
Oh, shit.
