Ch 2 Decisions Are Made
"Save him," Simba said, causing everyone to gasp in surprise.
"Are you sure about dis? Rafiki asked.
"Yes Rafiki I'm sure," Simba said. "I can't in good conscious let Scar die. No matter what evil he's done he's still my father's brother.'
"Simba he showed no mercy to Mufasa," Sarabi pointed out. "And he wouldn't have shown you mercy either."
"And that's why I'm showing him mercy Mom," Simba said. "I'm not like Scar. I don't purposely cause pain and death. I'm doing what Dad would do if he were here. And that's show compassion and mercy. But that doesn't mean forgiveness."
"He will need a lot of care afterwards," Rafiki said as he worked to stop the bleeding in Scar's head.
"Then we'll give it to him," Simba said. "We'll bring him back to Pride Rock and let him recover there. But he will be guarded at all times. Then when he is healed enough he will be banished to the Outlands."
"Simba that's not..." Sarabi began.
"Mom my decision is final," Simba said. "No arguments. As soon as Rafiki stabilizes Scar he'll be brought back to Pride Rock for his recovery. Understood?"
"Yes King Simba," the lionesses said together.
"Simba are you sure about this?" Nala asked. "I mean you're the last lion in the world that I would think would just forgive and forget everything that he's done."
"Nala I'm not stupid," Simba snapped, irritated by his mate's assumption. "I am not about to forgive what Scar's done. Nor will I ever forget what he did. For King's Sake Nala he murdered my father and made me think I was responsible. I spent years living with that guilt when I didn't have to. Not to mention all the years I spent away from my mother and everyone else I care about. I'm not about to forgive that."
"Simba I'm sorry," Nala said, lowering her blue eyes in shame. "I know you're not stupid. Its just that...well Scar's such an evil lion. I'm worried that he'll cause trouble after he's healed."
"He won't Nala," Simba said, his voice full of determination. "I'll make sure of that."
"How?" Sarabi asked.
"I'm not sure yet Mom," Simba said with a tired sigh. "Look its been a long, tiring day. I think we all could is some sleep."
"Simba," Sarabi began. But she was cut off by her son.
"We'll talk more tomorrow Mom," the golden King said. "And As I said before once Rafiki is finished stabilizing Scar then he'll be brought back to Pride Rock. And no arguments. Understand?" Simba looked at his mate and mother as well as the rest of his Pride when he said this.
"Yes King Simba," the lioness said, dipping their heads to Simba.
"Very well," Sarabi said, knowing her son was on edge right now. "We'll discuss this tomorrow."
"Thank you," Simba said with a smile. Just then Rafiki announced that he was finished. With that the lionesses picked up Scar's broken body and carried him back to Pride Rock with Simba, Nala and Sarabi right behind them.

The next morning Simba woke up with a huge headache and his eyes were burning. "Ugh not a good way to start the day," the golden lion muttered as he rubbed his eyes. Just then he felt something cool being placed over his eyes. "What..." Simba began, startled by the coolness.
"Easy there Simba its just me," came the voice of Simba's good friend, Timon. "The monkey said cool water on a leaf should help with the burning."
"Thanks Timon," Simba said with a sigh. The coolness was helping his eyes and making his headache lessen.
"Always happy to help," Timon said. "Mind of I keep ya company?"
"Not at all," Simba said. He felt Timon snuggle next to him and he smiled to himself.
"Where's Pumbaa?" Simba asked, knowing Timon was usually never without his best friend.
"He's with Nala," Timon responded. "She needed his help with something. I would have gone with them but Nala didn't want to leave you alone."
"I don't need a babysitter," Simba said, irritated by the notion that Nala thought he did. "In fact I'm perfectly fine." With that Simba pushed the leaf off his eyes and stood, ignoring the dizziness he felt as he did so. The abrupt movement caused Timon to fall to the ground with an 'oof'
"Sheesh warn me next time will ya," the meercat said as he stood and brushed himself off.
"Sorry Timon," Simba said. "But it just irritates me that Nala didn't even bother to see if I was up to patrolling today. I mean I just became King yesterday. I can't be looking weak on the first day!"
"Simba buddy you're not weak," Timon said. "You've been through a lot the last few days. Nala was just concerned about you."
"I know she's worried," Simba said. "But I'm fine. Where did she go anyways?"
"To Big Springs," Timon informed his friend. "Something 'bout meeting with the heard leaders."
"Ugh I need to get down there," Simba said. "Thanks Timon for your help." With that Simba dashed out of the cave and headed towards Big Springs.

A little while later Simba had reached Big Springs. By to his disappointment he saw the heard leaders leaving. Nala and Sarabi were heading out and Simba approached them. "Simba!" Nala cried out, surprised to see her mate there. "What are you doing here? I thought you were resting."
"Nala I don't need to rest," Simba said, not even bothering to hide his irritance. "I need to be taking care of my Kingdom. And Kings knows it needs it after what Scar did to it." Simba looked around at the barren land with a sad expression.
"Simba the Pride Lands will be fine," Nala said, nuzzling her mate. "I spoke to the herd leaders and they've agreed to stay. And with the rain we've been getting the rivers should start flowing again and the grass will return."
"And in the meantime I've spoken to the neighboring Kingdoms," Sarabi said. "And they've agreed to allow our herds to graze there until the grass returns."
"I should have been the one to do those things," Simba said. "I'm the King around here."
"Simba we just thought," Nala began.
"Well you thought wrong!" Simba cried out, startling his mate. "Kings Above Nala I won't be viewed as weak! And if I'm not the one making decisions then that's how my subjects will view me! As a weak child who needs his mommy and mate to speak for him and I won't have it!"
"Simba we're sorry," Sarabi said, shocked by her son's reaction. "We didn't mean to..."
"Well you did Mom!" Simba shouted. "And it had better not happen again! Got that?!" Simba looked from his mother to his mate when he said this.
"Yes Simba we got it," Sarabi said softly. Nala just nodded as the tears formed in her blue eyes. Simba noticed and he let out a sigh.
"Nala I'm sorry I shouted at you," the King said as he pulled his mate close. "I'm sorry to both of you. But my statement still stands. I need to be consulted when it comes to the decisions about the Pride Lands. Alright?"
"Ok Simba," Nala said softly. "We understand. And it won't happen again."
"That's all I ask," Simba said with a smile. "By the way where's Pumbaa? Timon said he was with you."
"He was," Nala said. "But he left to find Timon after we met with the heard leaders."
"Well I'm sure that..." Simba began. But he was interrupted by Zazu flying towards him.
"Oh Sire you must return to Pride Rock!" the hornbill cried out.
"What's wrong Zazu?" Simba asked.
"Its Scar!" Zazu cried out. "He's awake!"
