Chapter nine:

The time has come.

Mello and Near are waiting in the hallway as they just need Matt to get here.

Matt is just finishing up the camera to record Nears actions.

BB is in position in Rogers office.

Roger was tricked into doing a grocery run that Mello and Matt set up secretly. He needed to be out of the way or be killed as well. He even got some hard to find stuff on the list to keep him busy.

They maybe have an hour at minimum to pull it off.

"This still feels like an insane dream." Mello mumbles and kicks at the ground.

Near offers a warm tone towards Mello. "I'll be doing the hard part. Besides if anything bugs us afterwards we at least have each other."

"I guess you're right." Mello can't help agreeing. He supposes that sometimes drastic measures need to happen for the case to be solved.

Cops have even asked the internet for help in finding out a part of their investigation, which has helped solve major cases before.

So surely this isn't too out to there.

Mello takes a step back where he won't be seen easily, standing so the open door blocks him from view of the camera, as Matt approaches Near with the small camera Near needs to wear.

They don't trust the group to already be recording, or at least watching, this part.

Matt sets it up on Near so he's ready to go. "You have everything you'll need?" He inquires getting a confirming nod. "Okay good. L is currently alone in Rogers office. I would say good luck but this whole thing is wrong."

"It has to be done." Near tells Matt who takes a breath then nods.

"Come to me when you're done. I can take the camera and make sure you have an alibi that makes sense." Matt heads off with that acting as if he can't get away fast enough, to try to show he wants as little to do with this as possible.

Near turns making sure that Mello won't be revealed. He starts to make his way to Rogers office.

Mello watches him go knowing that he is in charge of clearing things out before anyone sees. He hates the job however it has to be done to not cause a panic.

They don't need the orphanage getting too involved in this.

Mello was already given a location to put the body. He stays where he is for a bit longer not yet ready to move from that spot. He will have to do so soon just not yet.

...

Near arrives to the closed door of Rogers office. He takes a breath before he raises a hand knocking on the door.

"Come in." BB calls sounding convincingly like L.

Near opens the door heading inside.

BB is sitting just like L does and he slightly smiles in greeting. His colored contact covered eyes remain emotionless to really sell the part. "Ah Near. Perfect timing."

Near moves forward letting his arm brush the gun he's concealing as he goes. His heart pounding though he tries to not show it. He stops just in front of Rogers desk that BB, who pulled off looking like L really well, is sitting behind. "Is it now?" He inquires as if having no idea what BB means.

"You know Near there was something I wanted to tell you." BB gets up and turns walking to a window, which should minimize the clean up, to look outside. His back fully turned to Near. "You've been doing so well with your studies that I have been thinking about getting your help with a case."

Near pulls out the firearm aiming it so BB will be hit in the back of the head. He tries to keep himself steady though lets a few trembles be shown to really sell it. He didn't want it to come to this. He didn't want to kill his friend. He however reminds himself that BB has been longing to see A again. He is doing his friend a favor. He steadies himself as BB talks about a case Matt confirmed L was working on. He silently mouths a goodbye to his friend before he pulls the trigger.

The gunshot is silenced so it is much more quiet to not draw attention.

Before Near can fully process it all the bullet hits the target.

Blood flies around a little from the bullet hitting the target. It doesn't splatter as much as Near worried it might.

BB falls to the floor not moving.

Near moves closer and crouches to ensure that BB is dead. He finds no pulse and lets out a silent breath. He wishes BB a happy afterlife with A in his head. He gets up tucking the gun away before quickly leaving the scene. He passes by Mellos secret position he moved to which signals for Mello to go do the clean up job.

Near gets to Matt's room and the other turns to him.

Matt takes a shaky breath clearly knowing that the deed is done. He helps Near remove the camera which he puts on his desk. "Okay. So I can say that you came to me asking me for a favor, that we were discussing it, if anyone asks about where you were." He tells Near who nods his head. "I mean. If we use the right kind of favor you would ask for then it wouldn't raise any red flags."

"I could be asking you to grab some information for something we don't have in the library." Near points out since their information even on the computers in the library, they're technically not supposed to have their own computers though that's only if you're caught, is made to only focus on what they will need nothing more.

"Yeah." Matt nods and the two don't get to say anything else as a beep sounds.

The two turn to Matt's infected computer which shows a black window appear. They watch as text is typed out on the screen in white letters. They read it realizing that it is an addressing with instructions for them both to go there... And that there will be those that will watch them along the way to ensure they're alone. They glance at each other as if not really sure how well this will end up going.

"Might as well not keep them waiting." Near mentions turning away to lead Matt so they can sneak out.

They briefly spot Mello managing to drag BBS body into the bushes. They can tell that Mello is doing great handling the clean up. So they continue on their way to not be caught separating for any reason.

Besides Mello will be joining them, Matt has a tracker so Mello can find them, just as soon as clean up is complete.

Near remains in the lead as he actually recognized the address from a previous time. He had to go there to pick something up one time.

Both of them hoping that the rest of this plan will end up going just as smoothly.
