Chapter 3: Class is in Session:
Zhu Yingtai's POV:
Taoist Ziyang was getting ready to teach us.
"I hope you are all ready," says Taoist Ziyang, "because class is in session!"
Taoist Ziyang: I'm a teacher, a purveyor of truth and light
I'm a teacher, I was born to improve mankind
It's my duty to enlighten the world
And guide the young to the path of the Lord
I'm a teacher, I must teach what is good and right
I'm a teacher, I must live what I preach in life
As a model citizen of the world
I must, in thoughts, words and deeds be so good
In the children I write the future
In their learning I find great joy
I may never sit on a throne
But I'm contented, my life is full
Yes, I'm a teacher
I must brave all the roaring waves
And the fury of the river and windy seas
I must climb on up the mountains and hills
Where children there wait for my love and care
In a mountain or in a city
On an island where I may be
I shall keep on bringing the light
And live as teacher until I die
I'll live as teacher until I die!
"Now, any questions," asks Taoist Ziyang.
. . .
During class, Ma Wencai and his servants, Mo Delan, Xiao Hui, and Qin Liuxian, keep finding ways to annoy Taoist Ziyang. He got so fed up that he gave them detention.
. . .
Yenzing and I were walking when we ran into Abbess Cihui.
"Is there a problem," I asked.
"No, I was just letting you know you might want to work on your voice," says Abbess Cihui, "someone might mistake you for a girl." She then walks away.
"That was weird," says Yenzing.
. . .
Yenzing and I were walking when a monster came at us. We were both scared, but then something banished it. "I took care of it," he says, "I am Zhuo Yihang. I am a chi wizard. I must go now." He then leaves.
"This place is full of weird people," says Yenzing.
. . .
I was speaking with Lian Shanbo.
"Did you get a part in the play," asks Lian Shanbo.
"Yes," I said, "I am to play one of the maidens."
"I am to play your husband."
If only that were true.
To Be Continued
In the next chapter, we see the play.
