Chapter 4: The Play:
Zhu Yingtai's POV:
We were doing the play. Many boys played maidens... they were ugly.
"We need a maiden worthy for the God of Storms," says a boy playing a witch.

Then came me. There is one flaw, because I am actually a girl, I make a very good one. I just hope no one puts two and two together.
Then Lian Shanbo, in his character came out. "I cannot let you go through with this," he says.
"I must, my husband," I said, "this is my duty!" Then, without thinking, I kissed him! Lucky for me, instead of being disgusted, everyone was amazed. I guess I just look that good, a lot of them forgot that to them, I was a boy. I might even turn some of them gay. The irony.
"This is exactly what a woman is for," says the actor playing a witch.
I then took offense to that and without thinking, I chewed him out on that. I need to start sticking to the script.

The play was over and... almost everyone loved it.
"YOU KISSED HIM," asks Yenzing, "what were you thinking?"
"I was getting too into it," I said.
"Why don't you just tell everyone you're a girl," asks Yenzing.
"Don't worry, everyone seems okay with it," I said.
"That's because you were beautiful," says Yenzing.
"Thank you," I said.
"Don't change the subject," says Yenzing, "they're probably going to hunt us down and lock us up!"
"They might just kick us out," I said.
"You don't know that," says Yenzing.
"When are you going to trust the law," I asked.
"I trust the law... sometimes... well, it's hard to trust an empire under a demon's rule."
"That part's fair," I said.
Lian Shanbo's POV:
"So, he kissed you," says Sei Gao, "that's gotta be awkward."
"The strangest thing," I said, "I think I... liked it."
"No judging here," says Sei Gao.
