It was morning when a Luffy felt a soft kiss on his forehead and woke to the gentle shaking of his mother. Damn if it didn't feel surreal to say that, a mother is something he hadn't even known about before last week, and here he was, with a mother and a ton of aunties and uncles! He was so exited that he didn't even notice until he heard the word breakfast pass his mothers lips. With a happy exclamation, he jumped out of bed, grabbed his hat, and jumped out the window. He was so preoccupied with what he was going to catch for the most important meal of the day that he neglected to hear his mother's screams at him jumping out an 8th story window (A/N Luffy still hasn't shown them explicitly that he has a devil fruit) nor her horrified gasps when he hit the ground and simply kept running.
Luffy was running through the woods laughing like a madman. He loved the adrenaline of an early morning hunt. He pondered what he would find in these foreign woods. The suspense was brought to an end when he encountered an enormous crocodile. He laughed even louder at that, even the largest animal at dawn island was no longer a challenge to him now that he had his shard powers so this would be an amazing test of his strength.
Brulee was worried sick about her boy. Realistically she knew that he could take care of himself, being raised by mountain bandits and a sadistic marine, but her heart worried for her boy. So she did the logical next thing. She dialed a few of her brothers and sisters, and asked if they would help find Luffy. When the search party was convened, the entire group heard a loud dragging sound coming from the forest. Coming out of the forest was Luffy, his clothes a bit torn, but without a scratch on him. The more surprising thing was that behind him was the carcasses of not one but three massive crocodiles, each covered in multiple lacerations and being dragged behind the abnormally strong boy on what looked to be a hollowed-out fallen tree. The party gaped at the sight, their jaws hitting the floor.
"Hey mom, I got breakfast!"
It took quite a while to explain to Luffy that no, he didn't need to hunt for food, he could eat in the great hall like everybody else, yes, he was allowed to if he wanted to, no, he couldn't jump out the window to do so. It was at that point that the family learned that Luffy had never had candy in his life, and set out immediately to rectify that, dragging him and his quarry back to the dining hall, all while Perosporo and Katakuri showered him in a constant stream of candies and donuts. Brulee had a very profound feeling she was going to regret this later.
She had never been more right. While she was happy with the bliss on her sons face when he first tried a donut, none of them had thought that an entirely sugar deprived boy, when given a surplus would have a sugar high to rival one of big mom's hunger pangs. When her son started to fly and become a swarm of little shards of glass, she wasn't sure wether it was the acid gummies, the sugar high or some sort of esoteric ability, she was not going to deal with it until they both came down. When the feast had calmed down and her son had stopped bouncing across the room, she grabbed him and steered him into a training room.
When he was pulled into an empty room Luffy was slightly confused. Brulee gripped both of his shoulders
"Do you have a devil fruit?"
Luffy was confused. She didn't already know? He detached his head from his body and made his arm disperse into shards that seemed to get smaller and smaller until they were barely visible as a warp in the air.
"Yeah, the shado-shado no mi."
A vein stood out on Brulee 's forehead.
"WHY DID YOU NOT TELL ME THAT SOONER"
"I thought you knew."
Brulee breathed deeply to calm down. "At least I know to tell Katakuri to help train him."
As if he was summoned, the mochi man appeared. "What was that about training?"
( 11 years)
The full-body mirror in makino's party bar glimmered before an incredibly tall thin woman and a similarly tall built man stepped out of it. The woman was fussing over the boy, tears streaming out of her eyes, the man carried a large chest that seemed to be weighed down by an incredibly large pile of gifts. These gifts ranged from an incredibly ornate sword to a sack of gold and jewels that would easily be worth several billion belly, as well as several den den mushi and a flamboyant cape woven with glass shards that he wore over his fairly common clothes. Funnily enough it seemed to be inside out, the slightly less ornate red and orange design design of a strawhat over a sunset hid the clearly much more embellished design of… something unclear. Long strings of glass beads ran from the hatband of his worn strawhat to near the his collarbone in the front, almost all the way down his cape in the back. Each bead seemed to glimmer a different color, from deep azure to pure emerald to dark obsidian, and reflect the smile of nostalgia on the man's face. The scar under his eye slightly concealed by the strings of beads, his distinctive grin caught the sunlight, teeth shining in the lamplight.
Makino gasped. She would recognise that grin, that scar, that hat anywhere. She threw herself over the counter heedless of the shattering glass, wrapping him in the tightest hug she could give.
"Luffy! I missed you so much!" the tall woman cleared her throat and the barkeep extricated herself from the man who she had watched grow up. Brulee, who was now a good 4 inches shorter than her son, gave her son a few pieces of parting advice then hugged him tight and jumped back into the mirror, proclaiming that she would wait for him in the new world to greet him after fishman island.
Makino was left speechless, the young boy that she had watch grow up was in front of her now, and almost 13 feet tall. He was the first to break the silence.
"Makino neechan, you got smaller."
"Luffy you were half my height when you left, barely tall enough to reach the bar from a stool. Now you have to bend down to fit in here, i think you were the one doing all the changing."
Luffy gave her a heartfelt smile and pushed her behind the bar.
"A cup of juice, for old time's sake."
Makino laughed, filling a cup of his favorite apple juice with small tears in the corners of her eyes. As he took a deep swill from the cup, he smiled.
"Just as good as I remember."
Just then, Higuma and his bandits burst through the door, demanding sake.
Makino flinched at the sudden entrance, but held up a shaky smile.
"H-how may i help you boys today?"
The bandit growled lowly, drawing a sword.
"You know what we want, wench. Sake, and lots of it!"
Makino began to visibly sweat.
"You boys cleared me out last time, my shipment arrives in two days. You will have to wait."
The bandit only seemed to get more angry.
"Then what's the guy over there drinking, juice?"
Luffy was calm, not a cool calm, but the biting cold calm and stillness that comes before a raging blizzard. That feeling settled over the bar and goosebumps raised on higuma's arm.
"Yes. you seem to have forgotten the lesson that a dear friend of mine taught you."
In a blink, Luffy had bent higuma's sword until the tip rested against the unkempt man's throat.
"When you draw a weapon, you stake your life on it. Weapons are not toys, nor are they evil. They embody the user's will to fight. " Luffy flicked it with a finger, and it shattered into thousands of pieces.
"Shishishi, looks like yours was weak." The sadistic grin on Luffy's pace sent the man scrambling back, the hilt of his sword still clutched in his hand.
"Get out." the man was only too quick to oblige, under the intense glare of Luffy.
Luffy was out of juice. Makino was almost horrified, his appetite used to be enough to feed five grown men, but now he was eating enough for thirty. He tossed a bag of gold on the table, easily paying for a hundred times what he had eaten and drank. With a grin, he spoke plainly.
"I paid off my debt. See you Makino-nee" with a flourish he walked out the door, cape blowing in the nonexistent wind
Luffy had bought a large fishing boat from one of the villagers. He had repainted the sails and flew a black flag. He set off into the evening sea, trusting the winds to guide him. As he fell asleep belowdecks, he wondered just how long this full pantry's food would last him, and what he would eat in the morning.
Luffy woke to the sound of cannonfire. He checked his compass and he was nowhere near any marine base, so he was confused on what was happening. He reached out with his observation and found the issue. Two ships seemed to be locked in what could charitably be described as a slaughter. He laughed, and was amused to notice himself drifting closer to the pirate ship. He yawned, and after a moment of debate, decided to kick some ass to get his blood pumping before breakfast.
He jumped over the railing of the pirate ship, landing nimbly on the deck. He quickly spotted a stairwell and slid down the banister smoothly, not bothering to walk. When he smelled food, he walked slowly towards it. He opened the door to a kitchen that was frankly tiny. The chef barely had room to turn around but still somehow managed to cook a large amount of food for the entire crew. Luffy snatched a piece of crepe off an outgoing plate, and he shivered in disgust.
That was not how one made a crepe. He decided that the food was not worth eating and found his way to the pantry instead. Finding a large crate of apples he began to chow down. After a few minutes of eating, a small boy with pink hair and glasses wheeled a barrel into the room.
"What's in the barrel?"
"Oh, I think it is some sake. I didn't want to fight so i decided to roll the barrel back here."
A pause and then
"AHHH who are you?"
"I'm Monkey-Charlotte D Luffy and I'm gonna be a great pirate!"
The boy began to shake and cower.
"Impossible, Impossible, Impossible"
He would have continued if he was not interrupted by Luffy's fist hitting his head.
"It's not nice to insult somebody's dream. If I die, I die, but at least I died trying to fulfill my greatest ambition."
The tiny boy began to look up in hope.
"D-do you think that i can fulfill my dream?
"That all depends on you. If you strive for it, then you can do it."
"I WILL DO IT! I WILL BECOME A GREAT MARINE!"
"Shishishi, that's the spirit."
"AND THE FIRST PIRATE THAT I'LL CATCH… IS ALVIDA!"
(alvida shows up and starts attacking)
The head of a mace barreled through the ceiling. Kobe's bravado fading quicker than akainu's patience as a massive woman jumped through the new sunroof, splintering the wood under her.
She was massively obese, with a width easily twice her height and a heavy iron mace resting on her shoulder.
"What was that kobe?"
"N-nothing Alvida-sama"
She whirled to Luffy, her mace nearly sliding off her shoulder due to the energy of the spin.
"And who are you to star mutinous thoughts in the head of my.. cabin… boy"
She finally looked up far enough to see Luffy's face. His dangerous grin behind those seemingly dainty beads that now looked anything but dainty, since they were flowing off the hat of this 13 foot tall behemoth of a warrior.
(Luffy kicks her ass)
With a shout and a loss of self preservation, Alvida threw herself at Luffy, iron mace waving. When the brutal head hit his stomach, with a whisper of "Tekai" the entire thing shattered. Alvida stood in horror when her feared weapon broke upon this mystery man's muscled stomach. With a grin that was unchanged since she had first entered the room, he held up his hand in a flicking position.
"Armament"
That was the last thing that iron mace alvida heard before she was sent flying into west blue.
A gleam as the only sign left that alvida was ever there.
The crew was stunned and horrified that Alvida, the strongest person that they had ever known was defeated with literally a flick of a finger.
(Luffy picks up Kobe)
Luffy beamed down at kobe, his smile gleaming brightly.
"Let's go, chase our dreams."
Kobe took the tall man's hand and was suddenly in a small boat. Then he was hit with vertigo and and nausea. He threw up over the railing, and then stood up to yell at Luffy.
"WHAT THE HELL MAN!?"
"Shishishi, Your face!"
Kobe tried to hit Luffy on the head, but he could only jump high enough for his strongest punch to bounce harmlessly off his sculpted abdomen.
As they set off through the crests and troughs of the wide ocean, you could hear the laughter of a boisterous pirate and the frustrated cries of an exasperated aspiring marine.
