I´m back! You were thinking I might have died by now but I made it into 2020, yey!

I had half of this chapter written since October, unfortunately, I couldn´t finish it before the end of the year. My new year resolution for 202 is to finish this story and here I am.

"Sorry, Sango. I need to go. We have a meeting with the other Takahashi-sama in a while." Her eyes roamed the room and made contact with Inuyasha´s, neither of them was able to hide the smile that came across their lips. "Ok, I´ll talk to you later. Bye."

The minute they set foot on the Takahashi manor, an aura of dread wrapped around Inuyasha. He didn´t like it one bit, better to get it over with soon.

"Yash! Kagome!"

The excited voice of a young woman cut through the sullen atmosphere making them both turn towards the source.

"Rin-chan!" Kagome immediately greeted the girl with a joyful grin.

"I´m so happy to see both of you together." She winked at Kagome in a complicit way that had Inuyasha blinking at both of them.

"We came to see your father. We have an appointment." He said, recovering his wits.

"He´s in his office, probably waiting for you. You guys go on, I´ll be here waiting for you to finish so we can chat for a while."

They left the girl in the living room before being led by Jaken into Sesshomaru´s office.

"Hello, brother, Higurashi-san," The daiyoukai nodded Kagome´s way. "I see you felt the need of some back up this time."

Kagome had already decided to not let Sesshomaru intimidate her. She just smiled and bowed to him.

"Inuyasha decided to accompany me as a member of the research team. We want to make sure you keep your word and give a favorable vote in the next meeting."

"This Sesshomaru is honor-bound to fulfill his promise. As long as my brother takes this project to a successful end, there is no need to worry about that." He stood for a moment and signaled the door behind them. "Would you excuse us for a moment? I need to talk to my brother alone."

Kagome was a little shocked at the request. She had expected a lengthy meeting with the company CEO.

"Of course. I´ll be waiting outside."

Sesshomaru waited for the door to be closed to speak directly to his brother.

"Are you going to explain?" He said while sitting back down.

"Explain what?" Inuyasha could feel his temper rising. This is what he was dreading, the inevitable catechism his brother always subjected him too.

Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow.

"First of all, your running away. Then that human female, she reaks of you. And you of her too. Sakasagami-sama said you two are walking hand in hand around the office She is worried the woman is using you to improve her position."

"It´s none of your business!" Inuyasha stood up and went to the minibar at the back of the office and poured himself some sake. "And since when is Yura so trustworthy?"

"Need I remind you how your relationship with Onigumo´s daughter ended?"

"You´re always bringing it up, how could I stop you?" He said gulping down his glass.

"At least that woman had something to offer. What benefit could be gained from this Higurashi girl?"

"I´m warning you Sesshomaru, leave Kagome alone. I won´t stand here listening to you talk shit about her. You don´t even know her." Inuyasha was pouring a second shot and gulping it as soon as he finished talking.

"That is correct. I know nothing about her. Would you care to enlighten me? What do you know about her?"

Inuyasha poured two shots this time and headed back to sit in front of his brother, handing the other glass to Sesshomaru. This might go on longer than he had anticipated.

"Then you came back to Tokio together? Rin´s voice couldn´t hide her excitement. " It´s like a romantic movie, you are so lucky Kagome-chan."

Kagome´s cheeks were turning a darker shade of pink. It was hard to keep her own excitement at bay retelling the story to the young girl.

"What about you Rin-chan? Are you dating anyone? Is there someone you like?"

Now it was Rin´s turn to blush.

"Not really. I have been too busy with college admission and graduation. In fact, I think it would help me to talk about it. I´m having a hard time choosing a major. What did you study Kagome-chan?"

"I majored in Arts. I don´t think I´m the best person to give you advice in that regard, though. Even if I love the arts and enjoyed my time in college, I´m having a hard time making a living out of it."

"The arts! that´s wonderful! I love music! I even play the piano. What´s your specialty?"

"I´d have to say painting. I also enjoy sculpting and drawing."

It was so easy talking to Rin. She was an eager and enthusiastic listener.

"I´d love to see your paintings Kagome- chan. What are you working on at the moment?"

"I´m not painting as much as I´d like to. I´m working on a pair of red eyes at the moment. I still can´t figure out the context. Painting helps me ease my anxiety and those eyes had been haunting my dreams for a while."

"That sounds like some therapeutic method. I also turn to music when I´m feeling anxious. Maybe I can turn my passion into a career ."

Their pleasant conversation was interrupted when Inuyasha appeared from behind them, startling them both.

"Yash!" Rin complained. "I swear to the Gods. You and my dad can be so stealthy. Are you sure you don´t do it on purpose?"

"Keh! As if I would be interested in your little girl talk!"

"Ok, then. Let´s say I believe you. Can I have your phone number Kagome-chan? I´d like to talk to you a bit more if you don´t mind."

"Of course. Here you go." Kagome handed the younger girl her phone. "You can call yourself and save the number later."

Rin took the device and made her own phone ring a couple of times before handing it back to Kagome.

They stood in the living room for a few more minutes, Rin´s relaxed manners chasing away Inuyasha´s moodiness and giving Kagome a few giggles.

It became part of her daily routine, exchanging messages with Rin, Kagome felt like she had gained a little sister and she was delighted with the situation. They talked about everything, school, boys, family, art; it turned out they had a lot in common.

Kagome heard the knock on her door and put the phone in her bag and went to answer.

"Hello." Inuyasha bent down to kiss her cherry tainted lips. She was wearing white canvas shoes and a light yellow dress. She had asked Inuyasha where they were going and he just said to wear something comfortable. He was wearing jeans, a white t-shirt, a red sports jacket and sneakers too so she felt she had chosen the right outfit.

"Are you ready?" He said giving her an appreciative once over while grabbing her hand and dragging her in for a small peck on the mouth. "we need to get going."

"I am ready, are you finally telling me where we are headed?"

"No, my lips are sealed. You don´t want our first date to be ruined." Inuyasha opened the passenger door for her and rounded the car to get behind the steering wheel.

"We go out together all the time, this can hardly be considered our first date," Kagome said while buckling her seatbelt on. "We even had dinner together the first night we met!"

"That doesn´t count, I had to eat and you were there with me. As far as I am concerned, this is our first date."

Kagome had to look out of the window to hide the emotion from her face. She didn´t want to turn into a pile of goo right in front of Inuyasha´s eyes.

They drove for a long time, the minutes flying by while they sang together the tunes they heard on the radio, Kagome laughing like crazy every time Inuyasha made up the lyrics of an unknown piece.

Finally, they left the highway and took a detour through a less traveled road penetrating the dense woods going up the mountain. They followed the road until it ended and parked the car there.

"So, this is the place? She asked taking in a lungful of clean, fresh air.

"No, not yet. We have to walk a few miles."

"A few miles? Thank goodness I´m wearing comfortable shoes. Are you sure we´ll be able to come back before sunset?" Kagome looked around the ancient trees casting gloomy shadows in the heart of the forest.

"You don´t worry about anything," Inuyasha spoke while taking a basket out of the trunk and handing her a bottle. "My father was master of these lands, nothing can get us here, the forest is protecting us." He closed the trunk and started walking down a small side road, little wildflowers in many colors lining both sides.

Kagome just nodded. It was well past noon, they still had a few hours before darkness surrounded them. She took Inuyasha´s free hand and immediately felt safe, the shadows in the forest not bothering her anymore.

"Here we are." Inuyasha stood on a small clearing in a terrace overlooking the forest they had been walking around for the past hour, his free hand extending to show Kagome the intended destiny of their hike. His eyes drinking in her reaction to the breathtaking view in front of them.

"Wow! It´s so beautiful out here. You can see the whole forest. And so peaceful too, listen... not a car can be heard, nothing can disturb us here!"

"That was the idea," he smiled cockily, "I take it you approve?"

"Definitely. It would be a little scary on my own, but with you by my side is just breathtaking."

Spreading a blanket in the shade of some ancient pine trees, Inuyasha just smiled to himself hearing her answer. Kagome couldn´t take her eyes off the beautiful landscape in front of them but eventually turned around when she noticed the hanyo was too quiet. She found him kneeling over the basket, the blanket already covered with fruits, salads, cheese, bread and a couple of crystal glasses for the wine she still cradled in her arms.

"What´s all this?" She asked. "Ther´s no way we can eat all of it."

"Keh! I´ll take care of it, just eat whatever you can before it´s all gone."

The small feast didn´t last so long due to Inuyasha´s ferocious hunger. They drunk some wine and chatted amicably laying on the blanket. Without their noticing, they drifted off to a light slumber, Kagome waking up as the sun was setting on the horizon.

"Inuyasha, wake up. It´s already getting dark, we need to go back."

The hanyo stretched lazily and open his eyes to a shivering Kagome. He sat up in a rush.

"You´re shaking, are you scared?"

"No, silly. I´m cold."

He immediately took off his jacket and wrapped it around Kagome's shoulders while bringing her closer to his body and surrounding her with his arms.

"We can´t leave yet. There´s something I want to show you."

Well, there you have it. If it feels a little rushed it´s because I´m trying to move this baby forward.
