On a rocking ship off the shore of an island, a man walks up to a door. He knocks on it twice before speaking nervously. " Chief, may I come inside."
" Did I not say to not disturb me? " A voice says from behind the door.
Hearing the response, the man blurts out quickly." You did, but the men are wondering. What are we doing out here instead of heading home." Silence falls, and the man starts to tense up and sweat.
" Very well, come inside. " A sigh of relief escapes the man. He opens the door and steps inside. Standing before him, now without a hood shadowing them, is a boy no older than 16, staring down at a map on a table. Calling him a boy, however, would be an understatement. Standing almost as tall as the man himself and with good muscle. A scar starts from his left cheek and runs down to his neck.
Looking up from the map, the boy gestures towards the chair in front of the table. The man promptly sits down on the chair. " Now Derik, you said the men want to know what we're doing here. Is that right?" The now-named Derik nods.
" Well, now let me ask you a question. How many people or dragons could kill a dragon of this size," the boy questions before throwing a dagger at a drawing of a giant dragon on the wall. Sweat returns to Derik's face as he answers, " Not many I would assume Chief."
" Correct, not many indeed." The boy praises as he smiles. Derik's sweat disappears as he also starts smiling. " One last question. How much of a threat do you think that dragon or human poses to my rule? "The boy asks, still smiling.
Rather happy still from the praise he received, Derik answers joyfully, " I would assume a lot." Nodding, the boy starts pacing around the room. " Unfortunately, that is the truth. " The boy stops in front of a wall with the drawing, arms crossed behind his back. " A danger that I have no idea what it is. Though I suppose that is what makes this so interesting."
" So what are you going to do about it Chief," Derik promptly asks.
" Ah now ain't that the question of the hour, my friend", the boy comes back to the table." Well, not much I can do with no base of operations."
" Am sorry to say this, Chief. We have no base here in this archipelago. " Confused Derik says. The boy stares disdainfully back in response. " I am well aware of that fact."
" Luckily, Odin has blessed me with finding this map on the ship, even as old as it is. " The boy gestures towards the map.
" Truly blessed Chief, " Derik praises and claps. " Yes, yes. " The boy waves his hand dismissively. " Unfortunately, as the map is old, it is outdated, so I have charted a course to the closest island with a village to acquire a new one."
" Hand this to the Captain." The boy says as he rolls the map and hands it to Derik. " Yes, Chief, though what if the people living there do not take kindly to us?"
" Do not worry, friend. We unloaded our usual equipment from the ship, so we will not arouse any reason to distrust us, " the boy replies. " Smart, Chief ", Deril praises before he turns to leave out the door.
" Derik, one last thing." The boy states as Derik opens the door. Deril pauses and turns around, " Yes, Chief? "
" Stop kissing my feet; tell the men to take off their armor," the boy says, narrowing his eyes. Derik promptly sweats " Yes, Chief! " He yells before he runs out of the room.
Now alone, the boy walks towards a chair before a desk and sits down. He sits in silence before he chuckles, " How my cousin would have enjoyed the hunt of this mystery. Unfortunately for him, it is I who has found it."
" Come buddy, come on." Hiccup says he and Toothless dart in between sea stacks. " Come on Toothless we can beat our old score." Toothless roars back in agreement and starts flapping his wings faster.
The wind blows past his hair faster as Hiccup can feel Toothless picking speed. Just as they blow past a sea stack about to turn and head to the Dragon Academy, Hiccup spots something out of the corner of his eye. " Woah, toothless woah, slow down." Hiccup yells over the rushing wind. Hearing him, Toothless stops flying forward, and hovers in the air and promptly smacks him in the face.
" Yeah, yeah, I know. We can beat our record another time, but I think I just found something." Hiccup says as he pulls out his spyglass and looks through it. Through it, he spots a lone sailing towards the berk. " Huh, not an outcast ship, and trader Johann left not long ago, so who could this be?"
He promptly puts away his spyglass." Well, whoever this is. We got to tell my dad, come on toothless back to Berk." They start flying towards Berk. As the ship draws closer.
Hopefully this first Chapter wasn't that bad.
