Chapter 45
Nancy smiled as she read the reactions. She had been able to convince Jonah to give her another chance reporting in front of the camera, albeit not an interview this time. Jonah had agreed and she used the chance to expose Brenner, using all the evidence that she and Spider-Man had recovered. It had been enough that the truth was completely out in the open and despite Brenner trying to take action against her, he was facing different problems.
"You must be the most insane person to ever work for me." Jonah remarked sharply to her. "Brenner is going crazy and is trying to sue you and by extension me and the only thing saving our asses is the fact the FBI has just got involved thanks to what you actually exposed. You do know what due process means, right?"
Nancy smiled. "I know, I already passed the information on to the police, through official channels and they escalated it to the FBI."
"But…" Jonah began before finally showing his true views on this by breaking out laughing. "I've gotta admit, you've got a real tenacity, I can't accept, publicly what you've done, but I'll admit I admire that."
Nancy nodded. "Well, it's certainly getting reactions, New Yorkers aren't happy."
"And why should they be after what they've just learned." Jonah scoffed. "This is gonna be an absolute storm and this is gonna be one hell of a story."
Nancy nodded, there was indeed already quite a fallout, it was clear that, in it's current state at least, Oscorp was finished.
She just hoped that all those working they who were not involved in any of the shadier stuff were not left in destitute, that they could hopefully find new jobs. Regardless things were indeed changing and Nancy knew, with the truth now exposed and New Yorkers almost rioting against the Oscorp checkpoints and road blocks they would be gone before long, and everything else would lead to things hopefully returning to normal, the police being back in action and hopefully those two friends of Will, El and Kali, would be able to get back out into the public.
'If the Green Goblin and those other supervillains show themselves again...Will could use some help, those two might be just the help he needs.' Nancy reflected.
That was when Mike entered the office and gave her a look, she knew what it meant and she nodded, confirming that she was ready as well. They turned their attention back to Jonah as he spoke up.
"Good, well since you're both here, how about this, we set you up to cover this story, Michael you'll do the pictures, Nancy, you'll cover the report, so, what do you think?"
Nancy sighed but spoke up. "Well, actually sir, we're not going be able to to. I'm handing in my resignation right now."
Mike nodded. "As am I."
"What?!" Jonah blurted out.
"I've already got a new job lined up." Nancy explained.
"Yeah, and I've got an internship with Dr. Connors." Mike added. "So I need to focus on school to make the grades so I can get the job upon graduation."
There was an awkward silence at that point.
Finally Jonah seemed to recover with a jerk and grumbled. "Fine, fine, good luck with that. Goodbye."
They took the dismissal as it was and left the office both smiling at each other.
They got into Jonathan's car outside, he had come to pick them up as arranged, everything had gone as planned and they drove back to Jonathan and Nancy's place, both relieved that things were indeed finally calming down, while there was still some fallout to deal with the roadblocks and checkpoints were gone at least and they saw the newsflash that Brenner had indeed been arrested for everything he had done and they knew things were indeed being finalized.
