Chapter 46

Will smiled softly as he arrived home with his mom, they'd just finished up at the F.E.A.S.T. shelter, glad for a moment of normalcy after all the chaos that had happened, the Oscorp issues had been dealt with and the streets were cleared, the building was closed off and thankfully, apart from those involved in questionable experiments who were being questioned, the out of work Oscorp scientists were finding plenty of job offers, there was hope for them to still be able to work and be paid.

"I know things aren't over yet, Will." Joyce said softly. "But that just makes it even more important to grasps peaceful moments like this when you can."

Will nodded. "Yeah, I know mom, I just...I guess I'm just on edge. Worried about them attacking at any time."

Joyce did her best to reassure him, hugging him and they took a moment to themselves. Finally, some time later, the two family members enjoyed a moment of peace while Will reflected.

'It's a shame Mike isn't still here, but it shows how good things have become for now, how much they've changed.' He thought. 'He has his mom and Holly, they've got a place to stay and he can be safe with his family again now that Ted is out of their lives. Just the divorce proceedings to go through and well, if even half of what I've been overhearing is true, they're not going well for Ted.'

The thought made him smile, especially after how Ted had treated Mike, it was enough to infuriate Will when he thought about it and he tried to put the thoughts aside, not wanting to remind himself of the dark times Mike had faced.

That was when the doorbell rang and they shared a look, not expecting anyone. Still Joyce went to answer the door and smiled when she saw who it was.

"Ah Karen, Mike, Holly, it's wonderful to see you." She said. "Come in."

Will stood up from the sofa, hearing that, a wide smile forming on his face. Sure enough the trio entered with Joyce at that point and the moment their eyes met, Will and Mike both smiled and there was something in Mike's eyes that made Will curious.

"Hope we aren't causing any trouble." Karen said. "We just thought we'd drop by."

Will shook his head. "Not at all, you guys are always welcome here."

He winked at Holly who grinned, while Karen didn't know, Holly had found out too about Will being Spider-Man and had been so excited at the reveal. Soon they were all seated and, after a pause, Karen smiled when Mike nodded to her.

"Oh that's right. We do have some news." She said. "It seems Ted's attitude has finally caught up with him and he's paying for it."

"Oh?" Joyce wondered.

Karen nodded. "It seems he kept getting into arguments at work, namely with that poor couple he kept raving about at home. He also made the mistake of revealing what he did to Mike when he was arguing with them."

"Urgh, seriously." Will groaned.

Mike just smiled. "Oh he paid for it, his homophobic words and actions have ended up with him getting fired."

"Exactly, he's raving about that now too, but it doesn't change the fact that he's been fired also puts him at a disadvantage over the divorce proceedings." Karen explained.

"It's karma." Will replied with a smile of his own.

Joyce nodded too. "Sounds like it. Well, hopefully things can get better for you all now, and Ted will finally pay for his behaviour."
The others agreed wholeheartedly at that.

Will smiled warmly as Holly sat on his bed, watching in amazement while he showed her a few things, namely his web shooters, a few other gadgets that he used as Spider-Man.

"Wow, this is...isn't it scary though, fighting those guys?" She asked.

Will nodded. "It can be, yes. But...it's something I have to do."

"Have to do?" Holly echoed, curiously.

"Yes, I ended up with these powers, it's up to me to use them responsibly." Will explained. "It's about what I can do in the moment, if there is something I can do to help in a situation like the ones I face, then I have to do it as it's the responsible thing to do. Standing by and doing nothing when you have the means to act and help, that's not something I can simply stand to do."

Holly nodded, taking this in. They then heard the soft laugh and looked over to see Mike standing in the doorway, grinning. Will smiled back and packed his stuff away while Holly moved over the bed, making room for her brother as he sat down.

"Will was showing me some of the gadgets he uses." Holly explained. "It's amazing, he actually built them himself?"

Mike nodded. "I was pretty shocked when I found that out myself."

Will just smiled in response, after a moment Holly left the room when Karen called for her. After sitting in peaceful silence for a moment, Will moved to sit next to Mike.

"So um...now that all that stuff's happened with Ted...how are you really handling this?"

Mike sighed. "I admit, it's not...it's not what I thought. He's still my dad, but even so, he's...he's not getting anything he doesn't deserve and I can't forgive him for what he did to me, to all of us."

Will gently pulled Mike close and they hugged quietly. They shared a soft kiss and Will did his best to help Mike, understanding exactly why Mike was in such a conflicted state, but knew it would pass soon and they could focus on the future together.
