Hades Rodriguez- District Seven (13)
Proteus was a very cool chameleon. He didn't change color as much as most people thought, since that was a defensive technique and nothing ever threatened him in my house. But he was still really cool. I liked to watch his eyes move every which way at once and see his little hands curl slowly around the climbing course I made him in my room. He shared the course with an iguana, a sugar baby, a raccoon, and sometimes birds and squirrels that wandered in from outside, and that was just one room. The house could get pretty messy, which was why my other main expense was a maid.
While I was watching Proteus, the doorbell rang. I rolled my eyes as I crept to the door, carefully staying away from the windows. It might be someone from the film crew, telling me about my next episode or passing along changes in the script. That wasn't so bad, though sometimes I wished they would stop worrying so much and let me just talk more.
I wasn't so lucky, though. When I looked through the peephole, I saw a crowd of brightly dressed people with crazy painted faces. They're back again.
I knew I was kind of a big deal. I won the Hunger Games, and I was only thirteen when I did it. They didn't seem to understand that it was mostly luck. I happened to not get found. I just hid through everything. It was honestly a pretty boring Games on my end. At first all the parties and stuff were fun, and I liked the attention, but I was starting to wish they'd go away. I didn't want to spend all day signing autographs and posing for pictures. I had all sorts of awesome toys I'd bought that I hadn't even opened, since I kept having to go deal with Capitolites. Lately I'd been getting fed up.
"Shhhhh," I whispered to Proteus, even though he never said anything. I ducked into a closet and curled up as I waited for the crowd to leave. I'd learned earlier to stay out of sight, since they had no problems with walking all around the house and looking in the windows. Usually I didn't even turn on the lights unless I had to. I heard them tapping on the glass like I was a fish in a bowl, and finally their faint and disappointed murmurs as they left.
"Now that that's over..." I said to Proteus as I crawled out of the closet. One of his eyes darted to the window, like he was agreeing. I held an arm out by the branch he was on and he slowly crawled onto it.
Honestly, people. I'm still a kid. Let me play with my pets.
It's been a long time, hasn't It? I've been busier than I expected, but on weekends I don't have to do any Marine stuff. I plan to start a new story soon, but there's one hangup: my old computer is at home, so I can't really check reservations. I'll go through the messages I have, but I'm not sure I can find everyone. I do still remember who usually participates, so I'll be saving slots for them. U til then, I can update one-shot stories. It will be slower than normal since I typed this on a phone and I only get a few hours of free time a day. Thats also why this chapter was shorter than some. But that shall not stop me!
