Chapter 10
Inside a small kitchen area, Tia kept the two brothers busy with work prepping for the spell her mother had asked her to prepare. While she messed with grabbing a porcelain bowl Sam was carefully placing the lives from the twigs and setting them down in a design Tia had quickly drawn. Dean looked over and saw that Christina was asleep in a chair while Mama Oakley worked on making a sling from some old rags and bandages she had in the shop.
"You're sister will be fine, Dean." Tia said with a smile as she was now grabbing a mortar and pestle from a shelf. "She would be better once we do this ritual." She began to pile a few herbs inside the Mortar before looking up at Dean. "You seem troubled by something else." She said starting to ground the herbs into the mortar but kept looking at Dean who kept looking over at Christina who was now being lulled into a deeper sleep with a soft haunting humming coming from Mama Oakley.
"I'm done with this part, Tia." Sam said making Tia smile. "What do we need to do now?"
"Do you have the vials of blood?" Tia asked.
"Yeah, Christy got blood samples from the attackers. Should still be in her jacket." Dean said walking out of the area to check on his sister. He was almost to her when Mama Oakley turned around and held out the syringes of blood towards Dean.
"Your sister's resting, Dean. Let her sleep." Mama Oakley said with a warm smile. "She does not hold any anger towards you."
"But I ruined the rest of her date." Dean said his head hanging low. "I tackled your grandson."
"You were provoked." Mama Oakley said softly grabbing Dean's shoulder. "Tell me what did you smell?"
"Huh?" Dean asked looking over at Sam appearing next to him and took the syringes from him and headed back to Tia.
"You said you tackled my grandson. Did you smell something before you attacked?"
Dean thought back to the date trying to remember what he was feeling and what was happening around him. "I remember him saying how much I was a daddy's boy and..." he stopped as something popped in his memory. "I remember smelling a quick hit of sulfur. That was just before I tackled Christopher."
Mama Oakley's face fell as she sympathetically nodded. "The memory of loosing your mother and finding out it was a demon that killed her makes your blood boil. I'm sure if I were to put sulfur under your nose you'll be prone to attack again."
Dean looked into the face of the older woman and felt his mouth drop. "How did you know about that?"
Mama Oakley smiled and gently closed Dean's mouth when he left his mouth open. "It's from years of practicing. I taught my daughter Tia, her husband Dennis and Christopher to keep the legacy going. But Tia is the only one that practices regularly. Dennis didn't want to..." Mama Oakley's eyes slowly widened as she gripped Dean's shoulder. "Take me to the Kitchen now please."
Dean nodded and helped Mama Oakley to the room taking a quick glance at his sleeping sister whose right arm was in a sling close to her body.
"Dlo Lily," Mama Oakley said once Dean walked into the kitchen. "ki kote ka objè Dennis la ye?"
"Why?" Tia asked her eyes looking at her mother curiously.
"Kote li ye?" Even though Sam and Dean could not understand what Mama Oakley had said, the tone in her voice clearly showed a woman who meant business.
Tia frowned but quickly left the kitchen to walk to a door at the end of the hall and headed inside. She was gone for less then ten seconds before she walked briskly back carrying a small music box. As Tia gently sat the mahogany wooden down on the counter, Mama Oakley didn't waste time before lifting the lid and filling the small room with the same haunting lullaby Dean heard Mama Oakley use on Christina to calm her down.
"Kote li ye?" Mama Oakley said her fingers dancing inside the empty box.
"What she looking for?" Sam asked Tia who started to help her mother.
"Manman, kisa yo ye ..." Tia started to ask but Mama Oakley turned and gently grabbed her face in her hands. "Mother I don't understand."
"Jwenn pitit gason ou nan telefòn lan." Mama Oakley's voice was serious as she gently turned and faced the two confused Winchester brothers. "I need you to get ready and light the herb mix when the time is ready." She said patting the counter before grabbing a small pack of matches. "Mwen regrèt pou sa mwen pral fè, dlo Lily. Tanpri, padonnen mwen."
Tia frowned but nodded as she turned to walk towards the phone.
"What's going on, Mama Oakley?" Sam asked sensing something troubling the older woman.
Mama Oakley sighed and moved her body around trying to find a stool. Dean, who had sat down in it quickly stood up and carefully set it under the older woman's hand making her smile. "Thank you, Dean." Taking a moment for herself Mama Oakley then looked up and smiled softly at the brothers. "Before you say anything, know that I'm sure my grandson did not intentionally want to harm your sister, Dean."
Dean flinched when he gazed at his brother then back at Christina who was slowly starting to wake up. "If you say so." Dean said keeping his voice even.
Mama Oakley nodded her head slowly and waited until she felt Christina walk into the room. "I need you all to know, that what I'm about to do is extremely hard to explain. Christina, my child, I need you to explain to me everything that happened to you when your arm began to break."
Christina frowned but looked down at her arm hanging in its sling. She could tell her bones were still broken but she was no longer in any pain. She only pondered on what was causing it before she took in a breath.
"We were just outside when the storm hit. It felt as though someone was holding down my arm and proceeded to stomp on it." Christina shuddered at the phantom pains her brain was reminding her what she had gone through.
"You didn't smell anything?" Mama Oakley asked gently sensing the haunting past of Christina.
"Peppermint." Christina said her eyes filling with tears. "It was peppermint."
Dean's face snapped as he looked at Sam. "Don't you remember-"
"My grandson's shop. It hurts me that it took me this long to find out the answers." Mama Oakley said her head hanging low.
Tia returned a few minutes later and stood beside her mother. "He's on his way. He said he would be here shortly."
"I'm expecting that." Mama Oakley said gently patting her daughter's hand. "Finish the ritual. Don't forget to add the Ergot to the mixture before setting it on fire."
Tia nodded and gently grabbed Sam's hand who followed looking rather confused.
"Please take a seat." Mama Oakley said with a friendly smile, but Dean and Christina refused to sit.
"What does Ergot do?" Dean asked trying to remember why it sounded familiar to him.
"It's a fungus." Christina said hissing slightly as her arm flinched and began to hurt again. "Found in rye or rye based foods. I'm guessing the Ergot helps destroy something?" she asked Mama Oakley who slowly nodded.
"It's something my grandmother used when she taught me and my mother." Mama Oakley turned her head towards the direction of the stairs and frowned. "It's something that I taught Tia and her husband, God Bless him, to use when their rituals ended badly. I guess Christopher did not pay any attention to the lesson as if he did he would not have been caught."
"But why would he do this?" Christina asked.
"You can ask him that yourself."
Dean and Christina slowly turned to see Christopher looking rather tired looking and upset when he stood at the bottom of the steps. He felt his shoulders began to tensed up as he wanted to go over and throw a closed fist in his face but stopped when Mama Oakley stood up.
"Come sit down." Mama Oakley said gently patting the top of the stool so he could sit down. "I'm going to make some tea."
"Explain." Christina said darkly as Christopher sat down on the stool. Her only good hand was gently grabbing her right arm massaging it slowly.
Christopher kept his mouth shut as he eyed Christina and Dean. He looked different then when they first met him. "It's none of your concern." He said folding his arms tightly against his chest. "You stopped the spells."
Dean reached over and gripped Christopher's shirt, his green eyes growing darkly. "Why did you attack my sister?!"
"She wasn't the one I want to attack." Christopher said looking over at Christina who looked away clearly not wanting to talk or defend him. "I thought it was your blood."
"Why did you want my blood?" Dean questioned his voice harsher.
"Because I was made to." Christopher's answer was clearly not what neither of them expected as they both were staring at him. "Haven't you noticed that the only ones who attacked were males?" He asked looking at Christina who glanced over at him, she clearly remembered when she walked to the hospital to gather the blood that all six suspects were all males. "When he found out I gave him a female's blood he was furious. Threatened to kill me."
"That would be sad to think about." Christina said coldly as she sat down. "To think you could have used my brother against us is not okay."
"It's not like I wanted to hurt you." Christopher said looking straight at her. "I just did what I was told."
"Was it you that called my phone?" Dean asked his eyes looking into Christopher's to see if he could spot him telling him a lie.
"No. But I did call...Him." Christopher looked away ashamed. "He's the one that wanted to hurt these people and when I mentioned someone was here to stop them...he knew who you were."
"Who is he?" Tia arrived just then with a steaming cup of tea with Sam standing next to her.
Christopher looked once again to the ground before looking up at his mom. "Gordon." He said softly making Tia's face scrunch up with anger. "He came into town three days ago. He wanted to get some edge on a case he had. But he went a little crazy."
"That happens when you take an object that doesn't belong to you." Mama Oakley said with a soft voice. She let out a sigh before nod it to her daughter. "Ba li te a, yon bèl ti flè." Mama Oakley reached out for Sam and Dean and pulled them close for her to so she could whisper in their ears. "There is nothing for you three to do. Your sister needs to rest her arm. She should recover quickly."
"But what about...?" Dean started but Mama Oakley shook her head silencing him. "Alright come on, Sam." Even though Sam was already trying to get Dean out of the shop.

The Impala skidded to a stop just outside of the Winchester's hotel and Sam rushed in leaving Dean and Christina out in the car.
"You were right." Christina said quietly almost making Dean miss it.
"About what?" Dean asked keeping an eye on the hotel's main doors.
"About Christopher." Christina said making Dean glance at her in the rearview mirror. "Also I'm sorry for dragging you here...and for not letting you sleep in a decent bed."
"Don't worry about the little stuff. We figured out what was happening and we fixed it." Dean said looking back at the front desk. "Like you had said, five years can really change someone. Take you for example, five years ago you were searching for Sammy and me, you were just starting out with being a hunter and you were still figuring things out. Now look, you found us and even though you're still figuring things out, you've become a better hunter."
Christina gave a small smile as she looked up at her brother's face in the rearview mirror. "Thanks Dean."
A soft jingle came from Dean's pocket as he searched through his jacket and pulled out his cellphone. He looked at it then slid his phone back into his pocket. "Text from dad," Dean said spotting Sam walking back to the front door after dropping their keys at the front desk. "He gave us some coordinates for another case or perhaps going to meet up with dad."
"Well, I hope it's meeting up with dad." Christina said with a small groan as her arm was starting to throb once again. "Won't be much help on cases with how bad my arm is right now."
"That shouldn't be a problem for us." Dean said with a smile. "Sam and I would be able to handle any case thrown at us for the time being if you wouldn't mind jumping on doing the research before your arm is healed back up?"
"No, I don't mind doing research." Christina let out a sigh and adjusted her arm to try and get some sleep not knowing where they were told to go.
"You going to be okay?" Dean asked just as Sam exited the hotel after having to explain why they were leaving and if they would be getting a discount of some kind. "I mean, has been pretty crazy these last couple of days."
"I'm not sure of the answer..." Christina said closing her eyes and cradled her right arm. "But ask me again after a few weeks."
Dean nodded even though he could tell his sister was hurting. He wanted to let her know he wouldn't tell her 'I told you so', but learning from when Sam acted the same way he knew not to push the subject and cause tension between them. He gave Sam a finger to his mouth when his brother climbed into the front seat. Sam nodded before handing his brother his phone. Letting their sister to sleep after a rough encounter with a very strange case. They only hoped that they wouldn't have to deal with that ever again.
