Chapter 14
The bar was alive with music, laughter, clinking of classes, pool balls being smacked against one another and the soft tapping of someone on a laptop. Sam hovered over his laptop looking at the screen while his older brother Dean was flirting heavily with a couple of girls and his sister Christina was sipping her beer and carefully reading their father's journal silently reading the articles. Every once in a while they would look glance up at each other shake their heads and go back to looking over their reading material.
They both looked up when they heard a chair at their table and saw Dean sitting down with a grin. He tossed a piece of paper at Sam's direction who rolled his eyes at him.
"What scam did you use this time?" Christina asked seeing the piece of paper had two sets of phone numbers and the excited look from the two girls at the bar.
"Talent seekers for a show that doesn't exist." Dean said with a grin. "At least not yet."
"That's low even for you." Christina said sipping at her beer and lifting up her newspaper. "But that's my opinion."
Dean rolled his eyes at his sister's remark and looked over at Sam. "What do you say? Come join me? Relax and have fun?"
Sam shook his head and glanced back up at his brother. "Thanks, but no thanks. I'm not wanting to leave our sister alone, plus I'm not ready for anyone else."
Dean let out a shaky sigh as he stood up and ran his fingers into this hair. "Fine. More fun for me."
The two remaining siblings looked at each other as they watched him strolled up to the two girls who giggled and blushed when Dean wrapped an arm around each of their waists.
"Hey check this out," Christina said sliding closer towards Sam and setting the newspaper she was reading on the table in front of him. "A couple was killed last night. Brutally slain."
"...found dead in their locked house. Both their throats were slit. Police are unaware of any suspect as they could not find a murder weapon or forensic evidence." Sam read the article and looked at his sister. "I found something too." Sam said folding the newspaper and sliding his laptop so it was in between them. "This turned up just a few minutes ago. Turns out the couple wasn't the first. They make number six families that were killed all in the same manor."
"You think we go and check the house of the last victim, as they're the closest?"
"Yeah, we'll go after Dean gets done with his...dates." Sam said watching as Dean strutted out of the bar with both girls beside him.
"He's going to be sore tomorrow." Christina teased making Sam chuckle and gently tap her beer bottle with his own.

Christina and Sam both were sleeping in the two beds as Dean never returned back that next morning but he was found still in his car snoring loudly. The smell of cheap whiskey and strong perfume made it clear that the oldest Winchester had a good night with the two girls.
"He's going to have a hang over when he gets up." Christina said when she and Sam stood just outside of the Impala and stared at their older brother.
"Help me get him in the passenger seat, I'll drive us to the house." Sam spoke in a soft commanding voice as he didn't want his sister to resent him. He watched as she shrugged and pulled on Dean's limp arms and they positioned their drunken brother so that he was leaning towards the passenger side door.
"I'll go get the bags." Christina said as she hopped towards their hotel room having a feeling that they wouldn't be coming back. After she returned and carefully tossed the bags into the trunk of the car, she slid into the back seat allowing Sam to drive as Dean continued to snore in the passenger seat.
"Try and get some more sleep," Sam said as he pulled onto the highway and started to move along with the early morning traffic. "It's going to be about three hours."
"You sure?" Christina asked hesitantly getting stretched out in the back seat.
"Yeah, I'll be fine." Sam said. He watched his sister shrug and slowly got herself comfortable. Her eyes stayed open for only a few extra minutes before sleep over came her and she sunk into unconsciousness.

The sun was grey when Christina woke up again feeling the Impala jerk itself into a stop. Slowly sitting up she looked around seeing large upscale homes on either side of the street. She watched Sam trying, but failing, to shake their older brother awake and looked back at her. Letting out a shrug Christina slowly exited the car to stretch her legs and feel the early morning breeze on her face.
"Go and check to see if the door is unlocked." Sam suggested making Christina nod as she slowly walked to the house Sam had pointed to. Yellow police tape still hung on two large pillars but as she easily ducked underneath the police tape failed to do its purpose.
Taking out a handkerchief Christina tried the door handle and found it was indeed locked. She gently giggled the door to see if the dead lock was also engaged but it was just the bottom lock which made her job easier. She jumped when the Impala's horn sounded causing her to whip around and glare at Sam who was chuckling as a slightly hung over Dean stumbled out of the car and towards the house.
"That was not cool, Sammy." Dean grumbled pulling off the sunglasses that Christina wondered where he got them but shook her head as she slipped inside the door followed by her brothers.
The house was empty of any furniture. Light ghostly outlines of picture frames dotted the walls as Dean, Sam and Christina all looked to see what they could find what caused the killings. All three took out EMF detectors and separated to scan the house but they couldn't find anything. That was until Christina slipped on a piece of paper that was surprisingly missed when the detectives were trying to solve the murder. It was a small certificate of purchase from the Miller's Auction House.
"I think I found something." Christina said walking back into the main room and held onto the paper and handed it to Sam. "Found it in the main bedroom. I guess it was over looked somehow." She had a slight skeptical look on her face before she turned to look over her shoulder when she felt as though someone was watching them. She turned and looked at her brothers again neither one of them noticing her strange behavior.
Sam looked over the piece of paper and looked around the house. "Let's go see if these people know anything about the recent deaths."
"Good," Dean said stretching and rubbing his eyes to get rid of the sleep that was building in them. "I can get more sleep."
"Nope," Sam said with a cheeky grin. "You're driving."
"You're such a bitch." Dean snarled grabbing the keys and storming off towards the front door.
"Whatever you say, Jerk." Sam chuckled leading the way back through the house while Christina stayed back long enough to wipe away all the finger prints off the door handle.

The Winchesters looked out of place inside the Auction house by the way they dressed, acted and how their Impala was dirty sliding into an empty parking space next to shiny new sports cars looking as if they were wrapped in a protective bubble. However both Sam and Christina, even though slightly embarrassed, were surprised how confidently their older brother strutted inside the auction house. Dirty glances and whispers about how uncivilized the three were as Dean took the opportunity to snag a flute of Champagne and some small Hors d'oeuvres from a passing caterer.
"Dean," Sam hissed trying to give a reassuring smile that his older brother wasn't all like this but it only made more people disgusted.
"Hey, Cogsworth," Dean stated walking up to a finely dressed man who was standing watching as the people were walking sipping their glasses of champagne. "How about more of the bubbly."
"Dean," Sam ,and even Christina, hissed at Dean as it wasn't their first time being in an auction house. "He isn't the butler, he's the owner."
"I'm sorry," Dean said trying to redeem himself as he straightened up and forced a hand into the pristine gentleman. "The name's Dean. I'm here with my brother and sister to look at art. But I am not as," he turned and gazed at his siblings to think of a better word to describe them as nicely as possible, "Artistic enthused as they are, I would like some help with a piece of art."
The owner forced a smile as he nodded and looked over his shoulder. "Sarah, may you come here please?" He turned and looked at the Winchesters trying his hardest to remain professional. "My daughter Sarah would be happy to help."
Both Christina and Dean both noticed as Sam's face went a little pink as a girl about his age walked up. Her long brown hair and large blue eyes seemed to give her the impression of a model then a daughter of a auction house. Her soft pink lips curled upward over rows of white teeth as she greeted each of the Winchesters. "Sarah Miller." She introduced and blushed slightly, covered almost expertly by her rouge. "I hear you three are interested with some art here?"
"Yes..." Sam stammered taking over the helm of the investigation before gently pulling Sarah away to talk in private with just the four of them. "But in a more, we need to know what happened to the items that the couple that was killed a few nights ago."
Sarah's face looked confused for a minute, looking at each of the faces of the Winchesters. "I'm sorry but I can't give that information out. Private information. You all understand." The three Winchesters looked down hearted but nodded slowly. Eventually Sarah sighed and looked over at her father who was busy talking with other members of the auction house. "Why don't you all go look through the paintings and see if anything sticks out to you. I'll make sure you're not disturbed."
The three Winchesters nodded their thanks and made their way to look at the artwork that littered the upper floor surrounded by people gawking at the masterpieces that were displayed on easels. As they walked around looking at the artwork, a soft buzzing sound began to sound from Sam's jacket pocket. Taking it out they moved closer together as the EMF machine that was turned on began to go off over an oil painting of a family.
"I can't stand how creepy some of these paintings are." Dean noted as the three Winchesters ran the EMF around the painting to make sure it was indeed coming from the picture. "They look so...real and it seems like a waste of money."
"Well, if they had the money it would be very lovely portrait in their home." Sam said standing up and pocketing the EMF when he felt a soft jab in the ribs by his sister. All three of the Winchesters all stood up straight as the owner and his daughter Sarah made pleasant greetings to some of the people there before forcing smiles in front of the Winchesters. "We are loving the art here."
"Yes," Christina said with a smile. "Such a wonderful array of different colors and images that pop out in every corner."
"Also such a beautiful Auction house." Dean finished but the owner looked as though he could care less of the complements.
"I think you three should leave before I call the police on you." The owner said his voice surprisingly level.
"We haven't done anything wrong." Dean said looking at Sarah who stood by her father in silence.
"I believe party crashing for a private event counts of doing something wrong. But I will not call the police if you three leave quietly."
"We'll leave." Christina said gently grabbing her brothers' arms. "Thanks for letting us stay for a time."

The hotel the Winchesters decided to spend their night was black and white giving it a slightly 80's vibe. Two beds were placed on top of a small raised landing and the couch was a small leather couch that looked comfortable for the younger Winchester. Sam took up one spot of the couch and placed his laptop onto a small coffee table. He instantly pulled out his laptop and began to look up information about any spirts that can live in a picture.
Dean fell backwards on his bed and smiled at how fluffy the blanket was as his pillows fell to the floor. "The only thing that would make this bed perfect it would be-"
"Magic Fingers?" Sam answered not looking up from his laptop.
"So Mr. Wizard," Dean said slowly sitting up from his bed giving Sam a sly smile. "You trying to look up that Sarah chick's phone number?"
"No." Sam said rolling his eyes. "Just seeing what to do about a haunted picture."
"What do we need to do?" Christina asked sitting down on the arm of the couch watching as her brothers interacted with each other.
"Simply burn the picture." Sam said with a shrug. "We just need to cut it out of the frame, take it outside and torch it."
"Well, I doubt your girlfriend would let us stroll back inside the building," Dean said making Sam roll his eyes once again. "So we'll just have to sneak in when it closes."
"Breaking and entering." Christina said with a forced amused smile. "Takes me back." She quickly left the room leaving her two brothers confused by her last statement but didn't think too deep on it.

The dark windows of the Auction house allowed the three Winchesters to easily sneak to the door and the stood guard as the youngest easily popped the lock allowing the three to slip inside. They quickly made their way up the stairs to the painting. Dean pulls out his pocket knife as he quickly cuts into the frame cutting the picture out. After they rolled up the painting the three slipped out with Christina locking the door behind them. They ran a short distance before reaching the Impala and Dean driving away making sure to keep his lights off before they drove far enough away from the auction house.
After making a quick stop in an empty parking lot, Sam pulled out a small metal bucket from a pile of trash and Dean lit up the lighter he held and began to burn the corner of the thick canvas and tossed it inside the bucket once it ignited. The three stood around watching as the flame began to change colors reacting to the different oils that were used in the painting.
"Well, I like these easy cases." Dean said turning around and heading to his Impala. Sam and Christina only stayed for a few more minutes before burring the ashes into the ground and tossed the bucket back into the pile. Then just as quiet and swift as they were outside the auction house they made their way back to their hotel room for some needed sleep.
