Hello all I'm writing these words after I just finished the last chapter but idk when you'll be reading this. Please enjoy because we are off to Wave, and as a non Jedi master once said, "this is where the fun begins"
Forest outskirts of the hidden leaf village
"This is hound-one I've got eyes on the target over." A cold female voice said through the radio headsets.
"Hound-two in secondary position, have visual too, over." A higher pitched female voice said back.
"Hound-three in final position, also have a visual, over, on your go Kakashi sense- I mean pack leader, over." A male voice said, slipping up with the code name.
"Code names matter for anonymity on black op missions Hound-three, make sure you don't forget that. You have clearance to move on the target, bag em hounds, over." An older male voice spoke before all 'Hounds' jumped into action. They all sprang from all points of escape, hound three was the one to stuff the target into a bag. Mission accomplished.
Hokage tower
"Mission accomplished Lord Hokage. Tora has been captured." Kakashi reported to the third Hokage. Team 7 was currently standing behind their sensei, Naruto handing over the bag to contain the animal over to its mistress, the Daimyo's wife who took out the cat and was hugging it to death.
"Good idea bringing the bag. Thanks, Satsuki." Naruto whispered to his raven haired teammate.
"Well last time we did this you got so scratched up and wouldn't shut up about it, it was driving me insane." she coldly answered. Also fuck that little hair ball, they had been a legit team for about ten days now, this was the third time they had been asked to capture this demonic creature, no non ninja animal should be able to move as fast as that thing does.
"Very good. Now we have some other missions. The old folks' home needs their shopping and prescriptions picked up, the Inazuku hounds need walking and someone asked for their garden to be deweeded." the old man listed off. The team gained a more and more unhappy look with each listing.
Naruto wouldn't lie, Ninja life when you are a fresh genin, not glamorous. D-rank missions were basically glorified chores, honestly they should make academy students do this for experience. He looked over and saw the unhappy looks on both his teammates faces, if Satsuki was showing emotions on her face you knew it was bad. ok, take one for the team.
"Old man stop right there, not gonna happen, we passed Kakashi-sensei's super hard test, we passed the academy, give us a real mission, something that tests our skills, please, we are losing our minds here with these chores." Naruto spoke up, saying exactly what his teammates were thinking.
"You tell em Naruto! Have that old man give us something better. Cha!" Sakura's inner rebel voice thought.
"I normally hate your shouting outburst but this time it's completely justified Naruto." Satsuki though, these missions were beneath her and her team, either she got some real experience or Kakashi started to hammer in some serious training, she felt like she was gonna explode if she didn't get one or the other, she was not getting any stronger like this.
Iruka, who was helping out with the fresh genin mission assignments until the new academy year started, spoke up about that.
"Naruto you've only been on a proper team for ten days, your not ready, I know D-rank missions may seem tedious but they teach important skills, the capturing of Tora I to IV has long been a D-rank know for building team coordination and communication, we also ask jonin so assign codenames for this mission as it's good practice. While they may seem pointless, we give you them for a reason." Iruka explained.
"I mean I get that but we need a real test of our skills, all three of us are going stir crazy." Naruto said quieter.
"Perhaps he is right Iruka, they could use something a bit more fitting for real ninja. Kakashi, do you think they are ready?" The 3rd asked.
"I'd say so, I'll keep watch over them, if you give us a basic C-rank there's nothing that should cause any major problems." Kakashi answered.
"Very well, please send in Tazuna." The Hokage said to one of the chunin assistants.
A minute later an elderly man gulping from a sake bottle and smelling to high heaven of the stuff walked in, clearly drunk in the middle of the day.
"You cannot be serious?!" The three genin thought collectively as they saw their client, definitely not the glamorous ninja mission they wanted.
"Who are these *hic* brats, I paid for ninja, not these brats." He answered.
"Don't write us off you old drunkard. You're no better, you're meant to be our client yet you're already drunk, it's not even two pm!" Naruto yelled back
"I assure my Mr Tazuna we are more then capable of defending you, and if all else fails I'm a jonin, you have nothing to worry about now mind telling us our mission?" Kakashi answered as it looked like Naruto wanted to kill the client.
"I'm a master bridge builder ya see *hic* had to make the trip here to get some planning permits and some trade agreements set up. I need your protection on my journey to the land of waves and until I finish my bridge.*hic*" he finished.
"OK, team 7, meet me at the eastern village gate in one hour. I'll try and sober up our client during that time. Back your ninja gear and survival supplies." Kakashi informed them before he left, promising Tazuna some raw coffee.
"Ah crap, I had to blow all my funds on my place. I don't have anything for the gear I need. Stupid water being brown and stuff." Naruto said once his sensei left.
"Naruto, you really shouldn't spend all your money so recklessly." Sakura childed.
"Well I need to pay to fix everything and I couldn't go without showering or heating." Naruto explained.
"You really are a loser. Come with me." Satsuki said as she dragged him off.
"What, hey Satsuki, that's my ear. OW!" Naruto shouted as he was dragged off.
Uchiha district
"Follow me and don't wander off, got it."
She said as she led him through the winding empty streets.
"You live here?" Naruto asked, looking around. He had never been to this far out corner of the village before.
"My whole clan did." She answered plainly.
"What happened to make to so, ghost town?" Naruto asked it not really clicking yet.
They reached the building she was heading for, she placed her hand on the door, took and breath and turned to him.
"They died." She answered harshly, glaring at him. She walked in and motioned him to follow.
"Great, now I feel like an asshole." He thought, it seems that the reason he sometimes saw that lonely look on her face was this, her whole clan was gone, and she remained, her survivor's guilt must be crippling.
Naruto looked inside the building that looked to be some kind of warehouse.
The place was filled with weaponry.
Walls lined with katana, ninjato, tanto, wakizashi and kusarigama just to name a few, she saw boxes full of shuriken, kunai, ninja wire and paper bombs. Everything a ninja could want or need was in here.
"Woah." Naruto said simply as he looked around, he was like a kid in a candy store…only the candy killed people.
"Uchiha clan armory, imports from the land of Iron, can't ask for better quality. Grab what you need and let's go." Satsuki said, tossing him a field backpack.
Naruto nodded to her, he then began to stock up, a few kunai and shuriken to replace any he had broken or lost since he bought the set he got before he had his license photo taken.
He grabbed all the camping supplies, sleeping bag, portable stove and two weeks worth of ration packs (Naruto would much prefer to bring cup ramen but they weren't space efficient) paper bombs, some ninja wire and some smoke bombs.
"So why did the Uchiha have so much gear?" Naruto asked idly as he was packing.
"I think it's mostly equipment left from the third great war, also the Uchiha…were, about ninety percent shinobi and kunoichi, need a lot of gear for a full ninja clan, plus we ran the village police, so it never hurts to have excess equipment." She said idly back. Almost finished with her prep.
"Hey what are these?" Naruto asked, seeing racks of four folded blades.
"Oh those. Demon wind shuriken, or just fuma shuriken. These are shadow windmills, so called because they are collapsible." She explained, with a light fast flourish she opened the four blades with a flick of her wrist. She spun it around on her wrist a few times before folding it again just and quickly and handing it to him. Naruto suddenly remembered that Mizuki had used something similar, but this definitely seemed to be of higher quality.
"Thanks, could come in handy." Naruto said, taking it and putting it in his bag, Satsuki grabbed one herself.
"Good, let's go." Satsuki said as they left and she used her key to lock the door.
"Thanks Satsuki, that really helps me out, I'll pay you once we finish this mission." Naruto said thankfully.
"Forget it, I don't need the money, just don't get killed now that I've supplied your gear, I'd be an embarrassment." She said, smiling at him.
"Wow really? That's nice of you Satsuki, what's your angle?" Naruto said, narrowing his eyes at her.
"You're such an idiot, my angle is not getting killed, if things go bad I've only got you or Kakashi to back me up." Satsuki said plainly.
"What about Sakura?" Naruto asked, as she missed out on their fellow genin.
"What ABOUT Sakura?" She answered back.
Naruto didn't really have a comeback for that.
At the eastern gate
"Right, good to see you're all here. Well begin in a classic diamond defensive formation. Let's go." Kakashi told them as they surrounded the now sober Tazuna, he was complaining about silver haired buzzkills and never having coffee again, they continued walking for about thirty minutes before Naruto spoke up.
"So why didn't you ask the Wave ninja or help with this?" Naruto asked, I mean he knew leaf ninja were awesome but surely it's better to ask your own ninja village for help.
"Because they don't have one. In the elemental nations only a few of the minor countries possess ninja villages and only the five great ninja villages possess leader's who have the right to bare the name of Kage. Sadly there is no village hidden in the waves, we are the next best choice, besides Mr Tazuna was in the village for his trade deal anyway, so it was convenient to hire us." Kakashi explained.
They kept walking a bit more, Naruto idly chatting with Satsuki with the raven haired girl giving very short answers.
Naruto thought back to what happened after the test ten days ago.
Flashback, after the previous explanation corner
Satsuki could not believe she was doing, actually going with her dope of a teammate to eat food, and the one he couldn't shut up about as well.
"Here we are, Ichiraku, no place better." Naruto said as he slipped inside and sat down on a stool.
"Hey old man, can you get me my regular. What do you want, Satsuki?" Naruto asked the elderly man running the stand. Satsuki hopped on the stool next to him and looked over the menu.
Satsuki had to admit, she didn't remember the last time she had ramen, as Naruto was somewhat of a fanatic, she decided just to copy him.
"I'll have the same." She said softly.
"So, Naruto my boy, how was your first day?" The owner asked Naruto.
"Figures he's close to the owner, probably not a week goes by that he isn't here." Satsuki thought.
"Pretty cool, had this whole, survival test we had to pass or we get sent back to the academy, this is Satsuki by the way, she's my teammate." Naruto explained as the man prepared their meals.
"Oh so you're the unlucky one stuck with him, I'm Teuchi, my daughter and I run this place. So you two, what's your sensei like?" Teuchi asked them both.
"He's really annoying, and honestly pretty lazy, he showed up three hours late both today and yesterday." Naruto complained.
"You idiot he wasn't late today, he mentioned you asking me to make a plan, he was always watching us, probably to see how we would interact." Satsuki said, she was pretty annoyed, she didn't notice she was being watched for three hours.
"Sounds like a difficult man to work with. But since you're not looking at all crestfallen I assume you passed?" He asked as he placed their food in front of them.
"Sure did, it was this whole mind game about teamwork." Naruto spoke excitedly before slurping up his noodles.
"We barely passed, it's lucky your stomach growling was annoying enough for me to feed you to shut it up." She said, mostly joking. She then began to eat her noodles too.
"He may be a dope obsessed with this stuff, but I can't say it's bad." Satsuki thought as she ate her noodles in silence.
"Hey I wanted to ask, Kakashi said you know some kind of A-rank jutsu, wanna explain?" She asked between bites.
Naruto loudly slurped some noodles.
"Oh that. Well it's kind of a secret but I suppose I'll tell you considering we are squadmates now. The reason I passed after I failed my test and why Iruka-sensei was all banged up was because of Mizuki." Naruto said in a hushed tone.
"Mizuki? What does he have to do with anything?" She asked quietly.
"Well after I flunked out Mizuki came up to me and told me about this 'make up test' he told me I had to sneak into Hokage Tower and steal a special scroll with some super special jutsu and learn one." Naruto said right before he had some more noodles.
"And you bought that?!" She whisper shouted at him. God he was such an utter moron, he'd never change.
"Yea I know. I just wanted to be a ninja so bad ya know. I wanted everyone to stop looking at me like some class failure." Naruto admitted, gained a solemn look on his face.
Satsuki looked in surprise at that, seeing his normal blinding optimism give way for a second.
"So I agreed, stole the scroll and spent the next few hours trying to learn a jutsu. The shadow clone jutsu was the easiest, so many had like, one-hundred hand signs or something stupid."
"Shadow clones? So they are actual physical copies, not just a false image like the normal one?" Satsuki asked him.
"Yep, and I'm really good at this one, I can make a tone." Naruto said, smiling at his use of the potent jutsu.
"More you…fantastic." She said, her words dripping with sarcasm.
"Hey! You don't have to be mean about it, it's super awesome, and way better then that cruddy normal clone jutsu." He yelled back, causing her to smirk in amusement at his irritation.
"Whatever, so anyway Iruka-sensei shows up, saying all this stuff about how there is no special test and then the silver haired asshole shows up and almost kills me with a giant shuriken. Long story short, Iruka-sensei blocks it with his body, I get really pissed and me and my clones beat Mizuki within an inch of his life and then boom, Iruka-sensei passes me." Naruto said with pride.
"So you learnt some sort of secret jutsu and beat up our secondary academy instructor. Not half bad, anyway I gotta train, I'll see you more missions tomorrow Naruto." She said as she hopped off her stool once she finished her bowl, Naruto had already finished and ordered a second.
"OK see ya Satsuki." Naruto said smiling while waving her off. She raised her hand behind her in a half hearted wave as she walked off.
End flashback
Since then they had begun speaking more and more, admittedly this still wasn't much as they didn't really speak at all before they were on team 7.
Naruto had a vague memory of a few days ago where Satsuki asked to be taught the shadow clone jutsu from him. He thought he did ok, tried to describe how he molded his chakra the best he could and showed her the unique hand sign.
However when two Satsuki popped into existence and all three of them fell to the ground, unable to stand and breaking out in a cold sweat he did get quite worried.
Upon asking their sensei he explained that if you cut your chakra into multiple pieces along with the initial chakra cost of making a physical clone it can hit the unprepared with a wave of chakra exhaustion, he was tasked with picking up Satsuki's slack for the next two days and was docked pay from his D-ranks for potentially harming his teammate with the sharing of potentially harmful kinjutsu.
Satsuki didn't blame him but she did have questions, if Naruto could make many more clones then that. How much chakra did he have? The concept kept bouncing around in her mind, was Naruto some sort of abnormality? Was the payoff for his awful skills that fact that he had higher then average chakra? Satsuki decided it wasn't worth focusing on, but the thought did keep nagging her in the back of her mind.
As they kept walking she walked around a puddle.

Wait a second it hadn't rained in days?
As soon as the thought crossed her mind two cloaked figures emerged from the puddle and using a spiked chain connected between their clawed gauntlets they wrapped it around Kakashi and before any of the genin could react they tore him to ribbons.
"One down." One of them spoke.
"And just the useless brats left." The other finished as they appeared behind Naruto ready to strike.
Luckily Satsuki didn't hesitate for a second, she took a kunai and shuriken and stuck their chain to a tree with an expert throw and affixed it in place with a kunai, he then landed on their gauntlet lifted her toned form with just her arms and delivered a foot into each of their faces.
Naruto could only look on in awe as he was frozen in place.
They detached their chain and one rushed the bridge builder. Sakura took that moment to snap out of her daze and remember her mission, he entered a sloppy stance in front of the old man with a kunai out.
Satsuki knew this guy would blow right through her easily and got in front of Sakura to intercept.
"Never again." She thought as she focused her mind to defeat the ninja in front of her.
Only to get clotheslined by Kakashi suddenly reappearing, holding both enemy ninja in his arms.
"Well that's that." He said calmly looking over his genin for harm.
"Wait but I saw you?" Naruto sputtered in shock only to look and see shredded logs.
"Sorry about that guys but I needed to see who they were after, I honestly didn't think you'd freeze up like that Naruto." Kakashi said, giving a side glance to him making the boy look down in shame.
"Dammit I just froze up, and Satsuki had to save me, it's like she's done this a thousand times before, she didn't hesitate for a second." Naruto thought, looking at the girl who didn't seem fazed at all.
She turned to him and with a smug grin spoke. "You're not hurt are you? scaredy cat?" She spoke mockingly.
"Why you! I-..." Naruto trailed off as he didn't have any sort of excuse, he froze up and he needed Satsuki to save him, and after all that talk about being a proper ninja.
"Now then, who were you after? Also, a puddle? It hasn't rained days, you couldn't be more obvious. " Kakashi asked the two tied up ninja, looking closer Satsuki saw the line cut through the symbol of the hidden mist village on their headbands, so they were missing nin, so was this personal or some shady mercenary job?
"We won't say anything. We mist ninja ain't soft like you tree fuckers." One spoke rudely.
"Well I was just being thorough, I have a pretty good idea anyway. So Mr Tazuna, want to explain why two ex hidden mist chunin are after you?" Kakashi said, turning a hard glare to the man.
"I…I'm sorry, I'll tell you the truth, the land of waves is beyond poor, a shipping tycoon know as Gato owns all the ports in Wave as such, his grasp over our country is absolute, with my bridge our country will finally have a way to perform trade outside of Gato's influence, I wish I could have paid for a B-rank or even an A-rank assignment but we simply don't have the funds, almost everyone I know chipped in to pay for you four, it's simply all we have." Tazuna explained solemnly.
"What are we going to do Kakashi-sensei?" Sakura asked the man who gave away nothing with his body language.
"Rules are rules, these two are known as the demon brothers, and as I said are chunin, that's a b-rank at least and the next one they send may even be a jonin, you lot are not ready for this kind of mission." Kakashi stated.
"Oh but who will ever console my family, my dear daughter will cry over her father's death and my grandson will become bitter to all ninja." Tazuna said dramatically, obviously trying to guilt trip them.
"Yea Kakashi sensei we agreed to help, we can't back out, besides how would it look if we as proud leaf ninja backed down." Naruto stated with gusto.
"I don't want to back out either." Satsuki stated simply, however her reasons were mostly selfish.
"If I don't push myself I will never become stronger, this is exactly the kind of test I need." She thought.
"Even so, Naruto needs to go back, he needs to be treated." Kaksshi said, confusing all of them.
It was only then that Naruto noticed the slight cut on his hand, probably from one of those two.
"But this is just a scratch Kakashi sensei, it's no big deal." Naruto stated, sure it stung a bit but he was fine.
"The problem is they cut you at all, these two are in the bingo book and their profile states that they primarily use poison to confirm their kills." Kakshi stated seriously worrying all of them.
"Oh no, sensei is right Naruto you could die even from just that scratch." Sakura said in worry as he just looked at the cut.
Naruto then did something nobody expected, he took a kunai and stabbed his own hand, it gushed blood as the blade pierced the back of his hand, however the bloodletting did most likely expel any poison in his system.
"I swear, on this kunai, I'm never backing down or running scared again! Believe it!" Naruto yelled with a smirk on his face.
"Um Naruto while that did work and that's a great gesture and all, we now need to bandage that hand and it won't be in fighting condition for a while." Kakashi said blankly.
"Ahhh, crap crap crap!" Naruto panicked as Kakashi got a field dressing from his person and was about to wrap up his hand, only to see it had mostly healed, with slight steam coming off the closing wound.
"Looks like that fox at least has some benefits, eh Naruto." Kakashi thought as he wrapped the hand up before Satsuki or Sakura could see the unexplainable healing factor.
"Right if you really are all still adamant about completing this mission then we shall keep going, but be wary, and you follow my orders to the letter, got it?" Kakashi explained, his tone and the look in his lone eye leaving no room for argument.
All three nodded at him and Tazuna breathed a sigh of relief.
"Alright let's go." Kakashi said as they continued walking, he did secretly make a shadow clone to collect proof of death of the two demon brothers, after extracting any relevant information, but these kids were too green, and didn't need to see him kill captured enemy ninja.
The rest of the journey was relatively uneventful, all four of them were on guard even as they met up with a man who owned a boat to take them into wave country, slipping under the massive bridge was that mostly complete, Naruto and Sakura looked in awe at the size of it while Kakashi and Satsuki thought it was kinda impressive.
As they continued into wave country the peace was broken with Naruto throwing a kunai into some bushes, only to see a startled snow white rabbit flee from the attack.
"Naruto you idiot, all you did was scare an animal." Dakura childed while Naruto scratched the back of his head in embarrassment. However Kakashi saw it for what it truly was.
"Wait, it's not winter yet, why would the rabbit have a white coat…substitution fodder!" Kakashi came to a sudden realization and his trained ears picked up the sound of metal cleaving through air.
"EVERYBODY DOWN!" He yelled as the three genin ducked and he dove to the floor, taking Tazuna with him.
They were barely in time to dodge an utterly massive blade sweeping through the air and barely missing them. With a loud *thunk* it embedded itself in a tree and in an instant a man was standing on the blade.
"Well well well, I know that barely visible face and hairdo, copy ninja Kakashi, looks like this job will be fun after all, it makes sense that the demon brothers failed,even if you are playing babysitter." The man said in a gruff tone.
"Zabuza Momochi, I thought it might be you, the demon brothers are known associates of yours." Kakashi stated while standing up.
The genin look forward to see a man with a grayish skin tone, no shirt except a strap to attach his oversized sword to his back, he wore blue trousers and some arm and leg warmers with a kind of cow print design on them, the bottom half of his face was covered by bandages and his slashed headband was worn at a side angle on his head, covered his short dark hair. The blade he was standing on was even more impressive, a large slab of sharp metal bigger then his whole body with a hole near the tip and a slight indent at the bottom of the blade, one thing was for sure, if they were hit with that monster of a sword, it would cleave them in two with ease.
"All of you, maji formation around the client, do not interfere, you are no match for him." Kakashi said, preparing for a life or death fight.
"He's right, brats, but here's a little show before I gut you, this, is how real shinobi fight! Ninja art:Hidden mist jutsu!" Zabuza said mockingly as he did a stance and the mist that surrounded them quickly thickened. Soon the leaf ninja could barely see anything.
"Got no choice, I'll need this, Satsuki will have to question me if we make it out alive." Kakashi thought as he raised his headband from his left eye, showing a scar over it, upon opening his eye it was blood red, with three tomoe in it.
Satsuki's eyes widened in shock at the sight.
"But that's a-! How do you have that eye?!" She shouted at him.
"I didn't steal it if that's what you're implying, let's get out of this alive first, then I'll answer your questions." Kakashi said back calmly.
"Hey Satsuki what's up with Kakashi-sensei's eye, do you know about that eye?" Naruto asked her.
"I do,it's known as the Sharingan. It's a dojutsu, a special type of technique that is present in one's eyes, it allows someone to read one's chakra and moves and copy them perfectly. But it's a kekkei genkai that's only present in the Uchiha clan." Satsuki explained to them, honestly she was a bit jealous, she didn't even have hers yet.
"And it can do even more then that, I'm almost honored I'll get to go up against it, back in the hidden mist we had a standing kill order on you, Kakashi of the Sharingan, the man who is said to have copied over one-thousand jutsu." Zabuza spoke before he disappeared into the mist, covering them in a deadly silence.
"He'll come after me first, so stay back and protect the bridge builder.
"But sensei, just who is this guy?" Naruto asked him.
"Zabuza Momochi, he's the ex head of hidden mists assassination unit and one of the seven swordsmen of the mist, their most elite squad of kenjutsu masters all with specialized swords. He's a master of a technique called silent killing, as the name suggests it's completely silent, you'll be dead before you even know what happened. To make matters worse even my Sharingan can't completely see through it." Kakashi explained to them, making the three genin look around in worry at possibly being killed before knowing what happened.
"Eight points, Latrix, spine, lungs, liver, jugular, subclavian artery,kidneys, heart, I could strike at any one, so many choices." Zubuza said sinisterly through his mist. It was getting thicker by the second.
In response Kakashi did a hand sign and flared his chakra, pushing away some of the mist, he was ready to cast his most potent jutsu at any moment. The tension thickened even more at Kakashi's readiness.
"Th-this pressure, this killing intent, I can't take it, this is what two jonin ready to clash is like, the slightest movement and I could draw his attack. I've never felt anything like this, it's like my own life is being suffocated by these two. I'd rather end it all now." Satsuki thought, her breathing hastened and her vision was blurry, she saw red eyes and a sharingan she had never seen before, she saw him and she slowly brought her kunai to her throat ready to be free of this pressure.
"Satsuki! Don't worry, I'm here, I'm not about to let any of my commands die, I won't see another name on that stone, I'll protect each of you with my life." Kakashi said to her, breaking the raven haired girl out of her trance.
"Oh Kakashi. You don't really have a say in the matter." Zabuza spoke sinisterly as he appeared without a motion or sound giant blade and all inside the three genins formation. "It's over!" The mist ninja spoke as he turned to cleave Tazuna in two.
Kakashi with his enhanced ocular prowess responded in but an instant stabbing the man with a kunai, what should have been dripping from his body was blood but instead it was…water?
As Kakashi had made his move another Zabuza appeared behind Kakashi.
"Sensei! Behind you!" Naruto shouted but it was too late, the massive cleaver like blade cut through the man with ease only for there to be…water?
"A water clone?!" Zabuza thought as he saw his very same tactic flipped on its head and aimed right at him.
"Don't move." Kakashi spoke as he held a kunai to Zabuza's neck, ready to slit his throat at the slightest movement.
"Now it's over." Kakashi spoke, just unmaking this elite ninja's moves with just a little red eye.
"Awesome Kakashi-sensei, you have to teach me how to use clones that good." Naruto spoke in joy at his sensei's victory.
"Totally showed shirtless here, Cha!" Sakura thought about Zabuza's defeat.
"All the stories, they never did it justice." Satsuki thought as she watched her clan's eyes analyze, copy and reverse a jonins moves and jutsu like it was nothing, her determination to awaken her own ocular prowess grew exponentially in just those short moments.
"Over? It's only over when you're all dead at my feet. You switched with a water clone you copied off me and had it stop that half baked kunoichi from offing herself with a speech to draw my attention, you hid in the mist for me to make a move then counterattack. But you're in a field of mist Kakashi, this isn't your domain." Zabuza spoke before he burst into water too as another Zabuza appeared behind him.
"It's mine!" The new Zabuza shouted as he swung at Kakashi who just managed to dodge the blow, as the massive blade impacted the ground Zabuza didn't stop for an instant and used the pommel to support a powerful kick that sent Kakashi flying, not wasting an instant Zabuza took his blade and ran to try and cleave the falling copy ninja.
Only to stop short as Kakshi had thrown makibishi spikes on ground to halt his advance, while he could plow through them the leaf jonin was a pro, high chance they were poisoned. As Kakashi fell in the water Zabuza had an idea, an awful idea.
"What's up with his water, it's dense?" Kakashi spoke as he was slower to get up then he should be as the water was dense and heavy.
The man appeared behind him and weaved some hand signs. "Water style:water prison jutsu!" He spoke as a orb of water surrounded his right arm and Kakashi was left trapped inside, unable to break free and without air.
"See through that, copycat." Zabuza rhymed with a dark smirk underneath his bandages at his trap, he knew preparing the water in this lake for a water prison would be useful when he was hidden in the mist.
"I wouldn't try to struggle, you'd just waste what little air in your lungs you have left, this prison may be made from water but it's hardened with chakra, making it stronger then steel. But don't worry, you had a front row seat to me dismantling your team of brats. Water style:water clone jutsu!" Zabuza spoke as he did a one handed sign and a water clone rose from the lake.
"You know what I hate, fake ninja, you wear a headband and think your somehow suddenly an elite warrior because of it, your not, when you've taken life and almost had your own taken so much that it barely fazes you and you still sleep like a baby, then maybe you can called yourself shinobi, when you've piled up so many bodies your name is entered into the bingo book, then maybe you can call yourself shinobi." Clone Zabuza monologued to the three.
"So you three upstarts calling yourself ninja or shinobi or kunoichi, is a joke!" He spoke as he did a hand sign and the fog thickened again.
"He's gone again!" Naruto thought and before he could react he received a kick to the face from Zabuza sending him flying with a bloody nose and most importantly in Naruto's mind, making his headband fly off.
Clone Zabuza stomped his foot on the metal plate and leaf village symbol, the ultimate insult to a proud leaf ninja.
"You're just kids, playing in the dirt!" He spoke in anger, seemingly insulted by the very existence of the three rookie ninja.
"Naruto!" Satsuki spoke as she and Sakura saw him thrown as they turned to face the water clone.
"Listen to me! All three of you take the bridge builder and run, he has to use his arm and a constant stream of chakra to keep me here, he can only fight you with a water clone but a weakness of a water clone is that it can't go far from the host body, run NOW!" Kakashi spoke inside his prison, damn it, he couldn't do anything but watch, his prison made it so he couldn't properly mold chakra too, if he could, a burst of lightning nature chakra and he'd be out of here.
"That's not an option damn it, the second he caught you we were screwed, not only does it break the lesson you taught us but the second we are gone he'll kill you and the real one will then kill us with ease." Satsuki thought, she had to get him out, the only chance they had to overcome a ninja of this level was to have a second ninja of that level and right now that was Kakashi, she had to get him out, she wouldn't die here, not until she had done what she needed to do.
"I've gotta go for it!" Satsuki spoke as she ran at him, as she charged she threw shuriken at his person until he gave her a window.
Clone Zabuza just swung his blade, the blade itself and the air pressure from the swing, having all her shuriken harmless, and gave her the window she wanted.
She pulled out a kunai and jumped, bringing it in a downwards thrust, sadly such a lackluster trick wouldn't work on Zabuza, he recovered instantly from his swing and grabbed the girl by the throat.
"Useless." He said simply and threw her across the ground harshly.
"Satsuki!" Dakura shouted as she just stood there.
Naruto clawed himself up and set his broken nose with a crack and a grunt of pain.
He saw Satsuki on the ground, she dismantled the two previous ninja with ease, and Naruto looked up at the covered face of the ex-mist ninja.
He was paralyzed with fear. "So this is it, a true elite ninja, I need, I need to run or I'll die, we'll all die!" Naruto thought in fear and panic he turned to run but his eyes landed on his bandaged hand, and the remainder of the oath he swore to himself.
"No, I'm never gonna back down, not now, not ever, I swore an oath on the pain I felt due to my inaction and fear." Naruto thought, he looked forward and saw the man stepping on his headband, the one given to him by Iruka-sensei once he acknowledged him.
It was an insult to all the effort he put in just to get this far, like hell he'd let this bastard step on that.
Naruto charged at Zabuza for his insults.
"No, run you idiot!" Kakashi shouted at him.
It was ineffective as he was given another kick to the face.
"Naruto what the hell are you doing?!" Satsuki yelled at him as she helped him up.
"Sorry, needed this back." Naruto said as he stood on his own and showed the headband in his right hand.
"You're an idiot." She said deadpanning.
"Listen up you eyebrowless freak." Naruto spoke as he affixed his headband, no longer any trace of fear or doubt in his mind or voice.
"Put this in your stupid bingo book, the ninja who will become Hokage of the hidden leaf village, his name is, Naruto Uzumaki!" Naruto shouted his smirk showing utter confidence in the face of oblivion.
"Satsuki, listen up, I got a plan, you in?" Naruto spoke to his female rival.
"Might as well, but I'm out if it's something stupid." She said smiling as his confidence seemed to rub off on her.
"OK then, let's go wild!" Naruto spoke.
They were interrupted by Kakashi however. "No you idiots, this is not your mission, your mission is to save the bridge builder, that is your task, so run!" He yelled at them.
"Not gonna happen sensei, as you said, those who abandon their friends and comrades are worse then scum, and no way is the future Hokage gonna be someone like that, believe it." Naruto spoke.
"Hahahahahahahahahaha! God you're hilarious, someone like you? A kage? You're even more of a joke then I thought, by the time I was your age my hands were already dripping red." Zabuza said creepily, making the three quite uncomfortable.
"So are those stories true then? The demon of the mist?" Kakshi asked inside the water prison.
"What's he talking about Kakashi-sensei?" Naruto asked him.
"It's a ghost story from over ten years ago, back when the hidden mist village still possessed their reputation as the 'village of the bloody mist' it was called that because of their utterly brutal methods." Kakashi answered only for Zabuza to chime in.
"Brutal indeed compared to the sunshine and rainbows they teach in the leaf village, in the ninja academy in the mist village it's more of a boarding school, you train together, eat together, sleep together, then the day of the final exam." Zabuza continued.
"Yea and? We had a final exam too." Naruto answered back.
"Oh but ours is very different, they pit you against one another, two mist genin hopefuls enter, one leaves. You've broken bread and spent months around this person and suddenly, it's them or you, and everyone always picks themselves, and they are all better ninja because of it." Zazbuza said as he explained the true nature of the test mist ninja faced.
"That's…barbaric." Satsuki answered in shock, Sakura had her hands over her mouth in shock and Naruto gritted his teeth at the knowledge.
"It gets worse, one year before the abolishment of this method something happened, on the day of the graduation exam a boy the same age entered the academy, and single handedly killed every graduate, no training, no mercy. The demon of the bloody mist." Kakashi finished.
They couldn't see Zabuza's expression but when they finally did see, his eyes were rolled into the back of his head like he was reliving an orgasmic memory.
"Oh those times, it felt so…goooood." He said in a sensual tone thoroughly freaking out the three genin and civilian.
Without warning he struck Satsuki with an elbow and slammed it down on her again while she was down, making her cough up blood.
"Satsuki! Shadow Clone jutsu!" Naruto said, responding with a large number of clones.
They took out their twin blades and charged at him.
"Shadow clones huh, that's quite advanced for a poser like yourself." Zabuza idly mentioned, one managed to get Satsuki away from him but in return he was reading the clones like a book, dismantling them with ease.
"You dare face a member of the seven swordsmen of the mist with this joke you call kenjutsu, don't make me laugh." Zabuza shouted, insulted at his awful skills.
Original Naruto charged him but Zabuza saw right through him, he brought up the blades to block him and while they did stop the strike from killing him, the swords shattered, their already poor quality matched with Naruto not using them properly and the skill and quality of one of the seven swordsmen of the mist made the two blades shatter into useless scrap.
"Ameyuri would vomit if she saw your dual sword skills, not only do you swing them like shit the blades are too long for you, just some kid playing ninja thinking two swords makes you cool, it's not about being cool, it's about life and more importantly, death!" Zabuza childed, clearly insulted by his embarrassment of a kenjutsu display, he punctuated his final word with a kick that sent Naruto along with one of his clones sliding across the ground and he dealt with the last few clones.
"Dammit, I still got this though. Satsuki!" Naruto cursed as he dug in his pack and threw something to his female teammate.
She caught it and saw it was the shadow windmill fuma shuriken she had given him from the Uchiha armory, she then saw six whisker marks on one of the blades, she smirked at the sight. He spun as she caught it and pulled out her own.
"So that's your plan, ha, not bad Naruto, not bad at all." She thought as she unfurled the two of them in perfect sync so it looked like one.
She jumped and then threw one shuriken and threw the marked one in its shadow.
The art of shadow shuriken, she'd shown it off on a D-rank earlier in the week, geuss he remembered.
"A fuma shuriken really, that's your big play?" The clone spoke as the shuriken went completely wide and missed the clone but was on target for the original.
The plan seemed to fail as Zabuza caught the fuma shuriken harmlessly. But he didn't count on the second one.
Only for him to jump over it as it flew past him.
"I told you that won't work with me!" He shouted mockingly mid jump.
But he didn't see the third layer to Naruto's little plan. As the second shuriken flew past him to poofed and out appeared the original Naruto poised and ready with a kunai, his throw was dead on and it meant Zabuza was forced to take away his arm lest it get a kunai stuck in it, breaking the prison and the kunai sailed past the original and destroyed the clone.
"Heh, sometimes, I really honestly can't work you out Naruto." Satsuki said to herself.
Woah, they act like they don't like each other but without saying anything they picked up on each other's plan instantly, they really are amazing together." Sakura thought as she looked on.
"You little shit! You're dead!" Zabuza said, spinning the Shuriken and preparing to throw it at Naruto, only for a drenched Kakashi to block it with the armor plate on his glove.
"You'll try, and it'll be the last thing you ever do." He said sinisterly, an almost murderous look in his eyes, especially his left one.
"Naruto, that was magnificently done, you've already grown in such a short time. You too Satsuki, now stay out of our way, I'll end this." Kakashi spoke as he praised the both of them.
"Yea it was pretty good right, when he threw both me and my clone I transformed into a shuriken and had my clone toss it to Satsuki she then used her own and I did in its shadow to nail him." Naruto said while floating on the water.
Zabuza then started pushing against Kakashi's arm but he won their tug of war of strength and the shuriken was thrown off into the mist.
"Alright, try this!" Zabuza shouted as he jumped away and started to weave signs.
Kakashi saw how his chakra was molding and the signs he was doing, this was some serious jutsu, and he needed to respond in kind so he started to weave the same signs, he caught up and both their identical jutsu went off at the same time.
"Water style:water dragon jutsu!"
"Water style:water dragon jutsu!"
They both yelled as two great eastern dragons of swirling water rose from the lake and attacked each other in a war for dominance causing the water to swirl and water to fall around the two as they blade locked with kunai and massive blade.
Satsuki helped Sakura and Tazuna up from being knocked by the wave and Naruto reappeared from under the water.
"So many hand signs and he copied them all instantly even with just one eye." Satsuki looked in awe at the potency of her clans dojutsu in action but with the creeping fear and knowledge that his Sharingan would be even more potent and in both his eyes.
"I'm kinda worried about being in the water during this but that jutsu was so cool." Naruto thought in awe at the dragons clashing.
Zabuza however was having a different thought. "I started before him but our jutsu went off at the exact same time, could that eye allow him to?" Zabuza mused as he continued to push the copy ninja.
Unknown to all participants in the fight a figure was watching from the trees.
Then something to unnerve Zabuza even more happend, he started to move, even do the stance for the hidden mist jutsu but Kakashi copied him perfectly, but no just copy, they were in perfect sync, not even a tenth of a second in delay between the two.
"It's like he knows-" Zabuza started to think only for Kakashi to finish his thought
"What I'm going to do next." He said, mocking the demon of the mist.
"It makes you mad doesn't it, that I know everything you're going to do or think, I see right through you, mist demon." Kakashi spoke as his red eye seemed to piece Zabuza's very soul.
"You're just a damn monkey, copying me like that!" Zabuza shouted in rage as he started to weave signs.
"You'll never beat me with cheap tricks!"

They both said at the same time as they weaved the same signs at the same time.
"When I'm done you'll never open that monkey mouth of yours again!" He yelled as he weaved more signs only to see an image of himself weaving signs next to Kakashi. In his shock he stopped what he was doing, but Kakashi didn't and he finished the exact jutsu Zabuza was going to use before him.
"Water style:giant vortex jutsu!" Kakshi yelled as the water rose and created a swirling vortex that consumed Zabuza whole.
"How, I was planning on using that exact jutsu, but he used it first?! How can he copy something I haven't even done yet?! KAKASHI!" Zabuza screamed in his mind as the vortex manhandled him. He was thrown against a tree and as he was catching his break several kunai were thrown into his body making him yell out in pain.
"Ca-can that eye of yours, see into the future?" He muttered weakly to Kakashi who was standing on a tree branch above him.
"Yes, it can, this is your last battle, ever." Kakashi said back as he held up a final kunai to finish the job.
Only for someone to do it for him. Two senbon pierced his neck causing Zabuza to go limp and everyone to look in shock as they saw a masked figure in the trees.
"You were correct, it was his last battle." The figure spoke, the tone of their voice was quite androgynous so nobody could really tell if they were a boy or a girl.
Kakashi checked the vital signs and found no pulse.
"I see you're a hunter nin, from the mist, I'm going to assume you had been tasked with eliminating Zabuza." Kakashi spoke to them.
"Indeed it was, I thank you for your help, copy ninja Kakashi Hatake, I would most likely be unable to defeat him myself." The hunter ninja spoke as Naruto ran up to the tree they were standing in and spoke while pointing at him.
"Dammit. What the hell was that! Some hunter ninja comes outta nowhere and just does that to someone like Zabuza, he was crazy strong, a real monster and that guy, who wasn't even bigger then me just takes him out like it's nothing, jeez what the hell! Who do you think you are?! What does that make us?!" Naruto yelled at Kakashi and asked about the new arrival.
"I bid you farewell, whatever task you have here I wish you luck. I must deal with the remains." They said as they used a body flicker to disappear with the body, ignoring Naruto and just focusing on their mission.
"What the hell!" Naruto shouted as he was just blown off.
"Let it go Naruto, it's the way things are sometimes, many ninja have their talents developed very early in life, there are some real monsters out there." Kakashi spoke as he covered his Sharingan eye and ruffled Naruto's hair.
"Shit, we're nothing dammit, nothing, and it's bullshit!" Naruto yelled, taking his anger out on the ground, angry that after all that, some guy or girl or whatever his age comes in and just kills Zabuza and takes off with the body, it made him feel useless, and weak, like he had no clue just how wide or deep the abyss of shinobi prowess he seeked to master really was, and it was infuriating. Nobody saw his eyes briefly turn red, just for a second.
"Easy Naruto, save your anger, we still have a mission, we need to get the bridge builder to his bridge." Kakshi spoke as he picked him up. He started to walk off when it finally hit him, the wall of his physical ability.
Without word or warning the jonin collapsed right there on the ground, the other four crowding around him to see what was wrong.
Boom there, first part of wave done, with chapter 5 most likely dusting it off. I know and I'm sorry this story is still very cannon, and I accept that and I'm sorry, we will start to see some proper divergence once the chunin exams start in ernest and see Naruto and Satsuki talk more post wave, I'd love to do all the cool stuff I have planned now but that would ruin power scaling and we haven't had any real time passage or big changes that allows for big divergence, biggest thing is Naruto and Satsuki being a bit more close then canon and Naruto having two sword that are now broken, why did I add them then? No spoilers, I still have plans.
