Prologue
"You see, I'm still not convinced" A middle-aged man in a dark trench coat walked back and forth in a small but beautifully decorated room. The rain poured against the window with the howling wind giving a mighty roar every five to ten seconds. The room was well lit and warm thanks to a small fireplace lighting the room.
"W-we are running out of money and resources director." Another man spoke who was older and wearing a lab coat followed by large glasses that sat on his head. "I know he isn't a full one hundred percent match to the gene, but I-"
"That is the problem, I'm not wasting the money on a risk. You had one hundred percent matched test subjects before, and they are so called failures." He snapped at the scientist who jumped back lightly adjusting his glasses.
"I wouldn't call them failures sir; they simply went missing in the other Pokémon world." The scientist was holding a pile of papers and desperately began to shuffle through them before finally finding one and placing it on the desk as the director returned to his chair. He took a step back as the Director took a puff of his smoke and picked the paper up.
"Is this the grunt?" He asked blowing out a ball of smoke over the papers and flickering the fumes around the room as he flapped the paper twice.
"Well yes, but he is more than a grunt, you promoted him yourself just shy a few weeks ago." The nervous scientist nodded letting out a cough.
"I did? Well then loyalty shouldn't be an issue, being promoted from a grunt takes a lot of work." The director extinguished his smoke then began tapping on the paper. "Ah I remember this one, a bit young, only nineteen, but still he showed great hard work, shame about his leadership skills"
"Yes- Yes." The lab coat nervously chuckled "I believe you was going to make him an administrator, but he lacked the leadership."
"Well then, I'll have a second opinion!" He cleared his throat and pressed on a small button near his ash tray. "Zoe, I a moment please." He called out through an old intercom.
"Oh, well I don't think she will be that interested-" Before the scientist could finish, he was cut off by the door behind him opening. A tall dark-haired woman entered wearing a similar coat to the scientist however it was more customised and ragged than a professional coat.
"Yes Sir?" She politely asked while looking at the nervous man beside her and raising her eyebrow. "Another one?" She grinned moving her gaze towards the paper were the director handed it to her without saying a word "Hmm, well let's take a look, shall we."
"S-sir if I can just explain-" Again he was cut off but by the woman this time as she raised her hand close to his head. Something caught her attention and her eyes widened reading the teens profile.
"He's perfect. Considering the tiny imperfection on the match, however I do believe this is the son of you know who" She seemed overly joyed about the discovery handing the paper back to the director and she gave the scientist an evil look "Was you trying to hide that fact?"
"N-No I was going to tell you director honest!" He bumbled on muttering to himself and luckily the director ignored her comment.
"Is that so huh... Then it's settled. You'll get your funds." The director leaned back in his chair causing it to moan under his weight. "And this time, don't fuck it up!" He pointed towards the poor nervous fool.
"A-At once sir, thank you sir."
"Out, both of you. The next time you come to my office it better be good news, or else." The director pointed towards the scientist. The nervous man and proud woman left the room together and she couldn't help but let out a chuckle.
"Why did you tell him." The man gained sudden bravery as he confronted her.
"Multiple times you have sent in Pokémon, and none returned. Something is up and I don't like it." She snapped at him stepping forward backing him into a wall. "I will be personally watching this one's process and ensuring he knows his task myself, is that clear?" She commanded.
"F-Fine..." He sighed as the woman smiled and walked away placing her hands in her coat.
"Good boy, now we start in one hour. Meet you there~" She chuckled entering through a glass door that led to stairs and she went down out of view he grits his teeth walking away. As he mumbled to himself, he pulled out a key card from his coat and slid it into a pad near two strong doors. They beeped and the doors began opening leading to an elevator which he entered and slid the same card causing it to close and begin to descend.
A few moments had passed as he rid the lift down into the underground and as it came to a sudden stop, he took a step forward to catch himself from falling over. As the doors parted, he was greeted to a huge underground facility, several pipes ran across the ceiling connecting into different rooms and machinery. Despite so much going on in the area it was rather quiet with the odd steam vents hissing out.
His steps echoed across the hole site as he adjusted his glasses over his eyes and walked into a small room. When he entered a figure was standing rather confused near the centre of the room. The man cleared his throat and the figure jumped out of fright turning to him. A teen was standing just next to a desk and chair and already the scientist know he was being nosy and looking around.
"Sit, if you would." The man asked politely as he walked past and sat in a chair on the other side of the desk at the same time the teenage sat in his chair. "You know why you are here correct?" He asked again.
"Uhm, yes sir." The teen responded while he shifted in his seat and couldn't keep his eyes from exploring the room.
"Ah, no need to call me sir. I'll be working with you." He smiled and moved forward leaning on the desk with his elbows holding his hands together. "Welcome to the team."
