Free Scauldy
Hiccup, Fishlegs and the twins were flying around the ocean looking for any sign of the Screaming Death. However, the twins weren't taking it seriously
"Guys, could you please put a lid on it? We're looking for the Screaming Death, low profile, remember the meeting?" Hiccup asked
"Yeah, but we had our own meeting" Tuffnut said before he and Ruffnut looked down "Oh, dangerous pointy rocks"
Then, they flew down towards the rocks
"How did we got stuck with this two?" Fishlegs asked
"Well, it was either them or Snotlout" Hiccup said
"Point taken" Fishlegs said
Meanwhile at Dragon Island, Astrid, Snotlout and Blake were flying above it, also looking for the Screaming Death
"Everything looks fine here" Blake said
"We'll better head to-" Astrid stopped when she realized that Snotlout was winking at her "Hey, the island is down there"
"But your eyes are up here" Snotlout said as he kept looking at Astrid
"What? what is it?" she asked starting to get annoyed
"I just found it interesting that you chose me to be your partner on the Screaming Death patrol" Snotlout said
"You do realize there weren't much chooses since you the last one to be chosen, do you?" Blake asked
"Yeah, but technically she still chose me" Snotlout said
"Let's just go to the next island" Astrid groaned frustrated
"The sooner we end this the sooner we'll go back home" Blake said feeling a bit uncomfortable
Back with Hiccup's team, they arrived to the next island
"Oh, great, Changewing Island" Fishlegs said
"Okay, guys, quick refresher, island full of ill-tempered, highly territorial and virtually invisible dragons" Hiccup said
"So we should buzz them" Tuffnut said
"Really rile them up" Ruffnut said
"I was thinking more of the lines of keeping our distance" Hiccup said
"I like the sound of that" Fishlegs said just before a roar was heard "I don't like the sound of that"
"Me neither but we'll still have to check it out" Hiccup said as he flew towards the island
"Whatever happened to the 'keep our distance' policy" Fishlegs said as he and the twins flew behind Hiccup but when they were close enough to the island and saw a Scauldron at the shore
"Whoa, that's a Scauldron" Hiccup said
"What's it doing on the land?" Fishlegs asked
"Catching some rays?" Tuffnut suggested
"Taking some alone time?" Ruffnut suggested
"Or maybe it's just waiting for unsuspected dragon riders to get too close, so it could blast them with scalding hot water?" Fishlegs suggested "Oh, just lovely"
"Actually, I think it might be hurt" Hiccup said noticing that some rocks were on the Scauldron's wing "Let's check it out"
They all flew towards the Scauldron and landed near-by
"Whoa, he is huge" Tuffnut said
"He could it me in one bite" Ruffnut said
"Let's see" Tuffnut said pushing his sister towards the Scauldron but she punched him "Or maybe not"
"Hiccup, look" Fishlegs said pointing at something. Hiccup looked where Fishlegs was pointing and saw a cliff with fallen rocks and trees "There must have been an earthquake and before he could get back into the water his wing got pinned"
Then, Hiccup looked up at the sun
"A tidal class dragon can't stay out of the water very long, if his skin dries all the way out-" he stopped himself not wanting to say what could happen to the Scauldron "We have to help him"
"Perhaps I need to remind you. Scauldron and boiling death that way. Changewing and acid spitting invisible death that way" Fishlegs said pointing at the Scauldron and woods respectively just before some bushes began to shake scaring him but the twins came out of them
"Come on out, Fishlegs, it's just the twins" Hiccup said looking at Fishlegs who hid behind Meatlug
"How do you know we're not a Changewing disguised as us?" Tuffnut asked
"Guys, come on, we need to find a way to free that Scauldron. We can't just leave without trying" Hiccup said
"Sure we can. We have dragons we can just fly away" Tuffnut said
"You guys keep an eye out for any Changewings, Toothless and I will see if we can help him" Hiccup said as he and Toothless walked towards the Scauldron
"Yeah, feel free" Tuffnut said
"Knock yourself out" Ruffnut said
When Hiccup at Toothless were close enough the Scauldron hissed at them, so Toothless roared
"It's okay, bud, I'll be fine" Hiccup said as he continued to walk towards the Scauldron alone and raised his hand "Hey, pal. Who'd you get yourself into this mess?"
The Scauldron hissed at Hiccup and lowed his neck, making Hiccup back away
"Okay, that's not really important" he said "Uh… what is important is us getting you out of here. So, what do you say?"
The Scauldron glared at Hiccup before his bottom jaw began to bulge. Hiccup already knew what the Scauldron was about to do, so he ran off and looked for cover. Luckily, he found it behind some rocks, so he jumped behind them just before the Scauldron's boiling water hit him
"Okay, not the answer I was looking for" Hiccup said as he peeked over the rocks before looking at the others "Gang, any ideas?"
"I have an idea" Tuffnut said, so everyone looked at him "Wouldn't it be great if bread came already sliced? Then you could enjoy it a little bite at a time"
"Think of all the sandwiches you could make" Ruffnut added
"Guys, please, can we focus in the Scauldron?" Hiccup asked
"I say we just blast those boulders off his wing" Tuffnut suggested
"That's too big a risk, we might hurt him more" Hiccup said
"Okay, what if we just blast those boulders off his wing" Ruffnut said, so Hiccup and Fishlegs just looked at them with blank looks
"We need to let the Scauldron know we're friends" Hiccup said
"Maybe if we get him wet it might calm him down" Fishlegs suggested
"Yeah, it's worth a try" Hiccup said
"Or maybe we could-" Tuffnut began as he ran towards them but he got interrupted when Hiccup covered his mouth
"Don't say it" Hiccup said
Minutes later, the twins and Fishlegs were carrying buckets of water as they flew towards the Scauldron
"Now!" Hiccup yelled
"Bath time, get your leather ducks ready!" Tuffnut yelled
When they got close, the Scauldron hit Barf and Belch with his other wing making them crash onto Meatlug, so they all began to fall towards the ground
Hiccup and Toothless flew towards them and caught Tuffnut, but Fishlegs and Ruffnut crashed with their dragons and were launched off their backs
Like a minute later, they all recovered and began to thought in a new plan
"Okay, so… the idea was to get the dragon wet" Hiccup said
"On the upside being, wet has made me feel calmer" Fishlegs said
"It just made me feel wetter" Tuffnut complained
"So, what's next?" Fishlegs asked
"Well, I'm open to suggestions" Hiccup said
"Well-" Tuffnut began
"That doesn't involve blasting boulders off wings" Hiccup interrupted
"Never mind" Tuffnut said
"Fishlegs?" Hiccup asked looking at said teen
"If he won't let us help him, then what can we do?" Fishlegs asked
"There has to be something" Hiccup said just before the Scauldron began to roar and spit some water
"Hiccup, you know how I feel about dragons, but a wild Scauldron it's… well… it's about as wild as you can get. So… maybe this is just one of those times nature has to take its course"
"You mean when I had to drink that sour yak milk and gave Ruffnut the smoky Viking?" Tuffnut asked
"He means if the Scauldron won't let us help him… well, there's nothing more we can do without endangering ourselves and our dragons" Hiccup said
All of the teens walked towards their dragons and got on their backs, Ruffnut hesitated for a moment but she followed the others
"I'm sorry" Hiccup said before flying off. However, Toothless and Meatlug began to fly back
"What is it, bud?" Hiccup asked
"What's wrong, girl?" Fishlegs asked before looking at Hiccup "I don't think the dragons want us to leave either"
"Just show them who's the boss. Watch and learn" Tuffnut said just before Barf and Belch threw the twins off their necks
Tuffnut landed near the trees but Ruffnut landed just in front the Scauldron
"Uh… hey" she said as she slowly got up but the Scauldron roared
"Ruffnut, don't move" Hiccup warned
"For the first time in my life, Hiccup… you have my full attention" Ruffnut said nervously as the Scauldron looked closer at her
Barf and Belch quickly landed almost crushing Tuffnut in the process and charged at the Scauldron who threw boiling water at them, so they stopped in their place
"Whoa, guys. She's alright" Hiccup said
"What's he doing?" Fishlegs asked noticing that the Scauldron was smelling Ruffnut's hair
"I think he's smelling her" Hiccup said as he got off Toothless' back
"Hey! Ruffnut! Looks like you finally got to date someone as ugly as you" Tuffnut laughed
"Maybe he's finally going to let us help" Hiccup said as he and Fishlegs walked towards the Scauldron but his bottom jaw began to bulge
"Or maybe not" Fishlegs said as they stopped walking, so the Scauldron looked back at Ruffnut in a friendly way
"What is it about her hair that the dragon likes so much?" Hiccup asked
"Maybe it's the color of his mother's hair?" Fishlegs asked but he realized his mistake when Hiccup and Tuffnut looked at him "That doesn't make any sense, does it? Sorry, I'm still terrified from what just happened"
"Why would anyone like her smelly old hair, it's full of fish oil" Tuffnut said
"Ruffnut, do you put fish oil in your hair?" Hiccup asked looking at Ruffnut
"Duh, how else do you think I get this greasy unwashed look?" she asked looking back at Hiccup
"I-I'm not going to pretend to understand that" Hiccup said
"No, no, no, it makes sense. Scauldron's are ocean dwelling dragons, maybe the small of fish reminds him of home" Fishlegs said
"If the smell of Ruffnut's hair keeps that dragon calm, that's our way in" Hiccup said
Meanwhile at a sea stack, Astrid, Snotlout and Blake were waiting for Hiccup's team
"Looks like Hiccup is late, what a surprise" Astrid complained
"I don't think you should complain, Astrid, because if I had a piece of gold for every time Hiccup has been late to something, I'd have enough to fill my room and I've only known him for a year and a few months" Blake said
"Fair enough" Astrid said before looking at Snotlout "You don't see them, do you?"
Then, Astrid realized that Snotlout was just a few inches away from her face, so she walked back a bit
"All I see is that we're alone again. Coincidence, perhaps?" Snotlout said
"Ugh, is forth time today" Blake muttered to himself
"Had to happen eventually, every week we face Berserkers, Outcasts, Screaming Death. The danger was bound to bring us together, Astrid" Snotlout said
"You've been flying in the thin air again, haven't you?" Astrid asked before Snotlout grabbed her arm
"Life is so fragile, like your-" Snotlout got interrupted when Astrid twisted his arm making Blake laugh
"Let's just go and save Hiccup from whatever he got himself into" Blake said when he calmed down enough to talk
Back at Changewing Island, Hiccup and the others were still trying to figure out how to help the Scauldron
"You want me to what?!" Ruffnut asked
"Train the Scauldron!" Hiccup yelled as he and Tuffnut and Fishlegs watched from a safe distance
"I can't do that!" Ruffnut yelled back as she looked at the Scauldron who's scales were a bit pale
"Sure you can, you trained Barf" Hiccup said
"That's half a dragon" Rufffnut said
"And let's be honest, I did most of the work" Tuffnut said
"Well, what about the classes at the Academy?" Hiccup asked
"Wait, we have classes?" Ruffnut asked
"Yeah, you know, when I'm standing in the front talking about dragons" Hiccup said
"You were talking to us?" Tuffnut asked making Hiccup facepalm himself
"Never mind. Uh… look, don't worry, Ruffnut, I'll talk you through training the Scauldron" he said
"Hiccup, we need to hurry, the Scauldron is really looking dry" Fishlegs said and he was right, the Scauldron's scales were getting paler
"Okay, step one: stablish a bond" Hiccup said
"With who?" Ruffnut asked
"'With who'? the dragon" Hiccup said a bit frustrated
"How exactly?" Ruffnut asked
Now it was Fishlegs' turn to facepalm himself "You guys don't ever pay attention, do you?" he asked looking at Tuffnut
"No" Tuffnut said
"Ruffnut, try this: give the dragon a name" Hiccup said
"Okay, how about 'Please don't kill me'?" Ruffnut asked
"Yeah… or maybe something a little more positive?" Hicucp asked
"I got one: Scalding Painful Death The Dragon" Tuffnut suggested
"How is that more positive?" Hiccup asked
"How is it not?" Tuffnut asked
"Can I just go with Scauldy?" Ruffnut asked looking at Hiccup
"Perfect" he said
Then, Ruffnut looked back a Scauldy "Hey, there, Scauldy. So, what brings you to Changewing Island? The tide or… the tide" she said before looking back at the others "I got nothing, sorry, guys"
Scauldy didn't seem to be bothered, he continued to look at Ruffnut
"Did that just work?" Fishlegs asked
"Yeah, but here comes the moment of truth" Hiccup said before looking at Ruffnut "Okay, talk to him again but this time reach out your hand like this"
Hiccup stretched his hand, just like he did when he first trained Toothless. Then, he felt something on his hand, he thought that it was Toothless, so he opened his eyes and realized that it was Fishlegs
"Fishlegs!" Hiccup gasped as he gave a step backwards
"Sorry, just feeling nervous for Ruffnut" Fishlegs apologized as Toothless glared at him "I'll go and keep an eye out for Changewings"
"Go on, Ruffnut" Hiccup said
Ruffnut looked nervously at Scauldy before stretching her hand
"You can do it, sis!" Tuffnut yelled making Ruffnut jump "But in case you can't at least your death will be quick, mostly painless and really cool to watch"
"So, Scauldy, I'm guessing you're as freaked out as I am right now" Ruffnut said even though Scauldy looked really calmed "If you don't kill me I'll appreciate it and-"
Ruffnut stopped talking when she felt something on her hand, so she opened her eyes and saw Scauldy pressing his snout against her hand
"Come on, guys, lets go" Hiccup said as he walked towards Ruffnut and Scauldy but said dragon roared at him, so Ruffnut had to calm him down
"I know, I know, Scauldy. Hiccup, kind of bossy but he's trying to help you, trust me" Ruffnut said
"Shouldn't one of us stay back for a look out for Changewings?" Fishlegs asked
"Changewings or not, we need to help this dragon and it's going to take all of us to get those rocks off" Hiccup said
"Besides, if there were Changewings anywhere near us I would sense them" Tuffnut said getting off the rock where he was sitting
Then, Toothless seemed to smell something, so he walked towards the same rock where Tuffnut was and roared when he saw a Changewing
"What is it, bud?" Hiccup asked just before seeing the Changewing spitting acid at him. Luckily, Toothless pushed him out of the way and shot a plasma blast at the Changewing
More Changewings began to appear out of nowhere, so Meatlug began to shot them lava blasts. However, Scauldy seemed to get nervous because he began to roar like crazy
"Oh, man, I must be dreaming because this way cooler than what was happening minutes ago" Tuffnut said
The Changewings began to walk towards them, but some fire blocked their way. Everyone looked up and saw the other teens with their dragons
"One Snotlout surprise coming up!" Snotlout yelled as Hookfang shot a fire blast at the Changewings
"Thunder, lightning blast" Blake ordered, so Thunder shot a lightning at some Changewings that were getting too close to Scauldy
"Stormfly, spine shot, now!" Astrid ordered, so Stormfly shot spikes at the Changewings scaring them off
"Calm down, Scauldy, it's okay, it's okay" Ruffnut said when the Changewings left
"What have I told you guys about playing with wild Changewings?" Astrid asked as she, Snotlout and Blake landed
"We are trying to keep them away from Scauldy" Hiccup explained
"Scauldy?" Astrid asked
"Well, it was that or Scalding Painful Death The Dragon" Hiccup said
"Tuffnut came with that name, didn't he?" Blake asked as he crossed his arms
"You got it, my friend" Tuffnut said proudly
"So, what's the deal? Those rocks on Scauldy's wing don't let him return to the ocean, so we have to help him" Blake said
"Yeah, that's basically it" Hiccup said before looking at Ruffnut "Ruff, you need to keep Scauldy focused on you not us"
"Okay" Ruffnut said as the other teens except for Tuffnut got on their dragons' backs "Wait, how do I do that?"
"Try your stupid Hiccup impression" Tuffnut suggested
"Oh yeah, good idea" Ruffnut said before trying to imitate Hiccup "Hello, nice dragon. You can be my friend, my leg fell off, all the dragons are my friends"
"I don't sound like that!" Hiccup yelled "And p.s my leg didn't fall off, try something else"
"Like what?" Ruffnut asked
"Try one of those songs mum use to sing to you when little and were afraid of the dark" Tuffnut suggested
"You were afraid of the dark not me, I was afraid of you" Ruffnut protested
"Just sing!" Tuffnut yelled, so Ruffnut began to sing a moment that the other teens took advantage to remove the rocks
Hush little Viking, don't you cry
Or the Berserker will stab you in the eye
If the dragon hears you moan
He's going to crash all your bones
Then, Ruffnut stopped singing, thinking that Scauldy didn't like that last part "Sorry" she apologized before continuing to sing
I promise Scauldy if you don't kill me
My friends and I will get you out to sea
Suddenly, Scauldy realized that his wing was free, so he flapped his wing and roared painfully
"Oh no" Fishlegs said
"That feels familiar, it's kinda like how I met Thunder" Blake said
"Can you help Scauldy the same way you helped Thunder?" Hiccup asked
"I don't think so. When I helped Thunder with his wing he still had to get used to fly again and I don't think we have enough time for that. Besides, Scauldy's wing looks a bit more… uh… broken" Blake explained
"I was afraid of that, he can't swim or fly but… maybe we can fix it" Hiccup said
"With what? a giant dragon splint?" Snotlout laughed
"Exactly" Hiccup said
"I knew that, that's why I said it because it as my idea" Snotlout said making Astrid roll her eyes annoyed
"Any time now!" Ruffnut yelled, she was being press to the ground by Scauldy
"Alright, we'll need a log, the biggest we can find" Fishlegs said
"We'll also need something to secure them" Astrid added
"We can use the rope from my shield but we'll need more, so bring any vines you can find" Hiccup said as he grabbed his shield
"You got it" Fishlegs said before flying off, so Hiccup looked at Ruffnut
"Ruffnut-" he began
"I know, I'm stuck with the stupid dragon-sitting duty" Ruffnut complained but Scauldy gave a small grunt, so Ruffnut rubbed his chin "I didn't really mean that"
"Hey, what am I supposed to do?" Tuffnut asked just before Hiccup tossed him his shield
"Start pulling all the rope from the grappling hook and the bolos, but be very careful of the-" before Hiccup could finish his sentence, Tuffnut got hit in the face by the shield's mini catapult "Mini catapult"
Some time later, the tees reunited with everything they needed
"Good job, everyone" Hiccup said
"Here you go" Tuffnut said as he gave Hiccup his shield
"Sorry about the catapult thing" Hiccup apologized
"It's okay, it's sorta hair-trigger, I tighten it up for you, so-" Tuffnut began just before he hot hit by the catapult again "Just take it"
"Okay, someone needs to be on the lookout for Changewings while the rest of us work on the splint" Hiccup said as he took his shield
"Astrid and I will go!" Snotlout said without thinking as he pulled Astrid towards him "Alone by ourselves"
"Knock yourselves out" Hiccup said, so Astrid glared at Snotlout
"What? just said what you were thinking" he said just before Astrid grabbed his hand and flip him over his shoulders and walked away "I'm coming, I'm coming"
"I'll go with them, someone has to make sure that Astrid doesn't hurt Snotlout too much" Blake said as he walked away
Hiccup and Fishlegs wasted no time and began to work on the splint for Scauldy
"Hiccup, I don't know if we have enough vines and rope" Fishlegs said
"Well, it has to be enough" Hiccup said
Meanwhile, Astrid, Snotlout and Blake were at the sky keeping an eye out for any Changewings
"You two see anything?" Astrid asked
"I don't, but I'm sure they'll eventually appear" Blake said
"And I only see two of the most beautiful eyes in the world, yours" Snotlout said looking at Astrid before kissing his biceps
"Okay, that's it" Astrid said tiredly but surprisingly, she smiled as she looked at Snotlout "You won me over, Snotlout. Let's do this"
"Wait, what?!" Blake asked completely confused and surprised
"Do what?" Snotlout asked just as confused and surprised as Blake
"Be a couple, you and me. Together forever" Astrid said
"Uh… what are you doing?" Snotlout asked a bit scared
"Astrid, are you feeling okay? Are you sick?" Blake asked
"I'm just seeing Snotlout as if the first time" Astrid said
"Stop, you're freaking me out" Snotlout said
"You're not the only one" Blake said just before Astrid shoved Snotlout to make him ride Hookfang upside down
"But the clouds are reflecting so beautifully in your sky-blue eyes" Astrid said looking at Snotlout's eyes
"Clouds? What clouds?" Snotlout asked
"Those ones right… there" Astrid said pointing at some clouds but she noticed something odd
"I don't think those are clouds" Blake said
Astrid watches more carefully and saw a heard of Changewings flying towards them
"You're right. It's a heard of Changewings heading right for the beach" Astrid said before flipping Snotlout again so he could ride Hookfang properly "Let's ride, lover boy"
"I think I'm going to get nightmares again" Blake said still processing what happened
Back with Hiccup's team, they were still working on the splint for Scauldy while Ruffnut distracted him by singing
Hurry up guys and fix that wing
Because I have ran out of things to sing
"I think it's going to work" Fishlegs said
"Coming in hot!" a voice yelled, it was Snotlout
"Well, this can't be good news" Hiccup said just before Snotlout and Hookfang landed in front of him
"I don't understand women" Snotlout said
"Changewings behind us, about five minutes out" Astrid said as she landed
"How many?" Hiccup asked
"They aren't camouflaging… so" Blake said as he landed
"Uh, Fishlegs!" Hiccup said
"It's ready" Fishlegs said but the vine snapped "Argh, it broke"
"Oh no" Ruffnut said
Fishlegs quickly tried to retire the vine but it wasn't enough
"It won't reach, I need more rope" Fishlegs said
"The Changewings are almost here!" Blake warned
"Ruffnut, we have to go" Hiccup said
"No! can't we all lift Scauldy?" Ruffnut asked
"Even if we could it wouldn't do any good, the dragon can't swim" Hiccup said but Ruffnut didn't move at all "Ruffnut!"
"No! I am not leaving him here!" Ruffnut refused
"Whatever we're going to do we have to do it now!" Astrid said
Scauldy saw the incoming danger, so he pushed Ruffnut away trying to protect her. Ruffnut was getting really nervous and pulled her hair but then she seemed to think in something
"Wait I have an idea" Ruffnut said pulling out a dagger from her vast
The Changewings quickly arrived and got ready to attack but no one was at the shore anymore
At the ocean, Scauldy was happily swimming with the teens not too far away
Turns out that Ruffnut used her own hair to replace the vine, so now she had a new shorter haircut
"Sorry for leaving you with Snotlout today" Hiccup said as he flew near Astrid
"It wasn't that bad, Blake was a good company. Watch this" Astrid said before flying near Snotlout "Hey, Sweetie pie, Honeybunch, Snotykums"
"Would you stop it already? You are grossing me out" Snotlout said
"Yeah, you're kind of grossing me out too" Hiccup said before flying towards Ruffnut "Ruff, you did good down there"
"You really did. I mean, that was awesome" Fishlegs said
"You know what would have been more awesome?" Tuffnut asked
"Yeah, if he would have eaten me?" Ruffnut asked
"I love it when you're in my mind, sis" Tuffnut said before he and Ruff slammed their helmets into each other
"You guys ready to head home?" Hiccup asked
"Hang on a minute" Ruffnut said before Barf and Belch flew closer to the water, so Scauldy pooped his head out and rubbed it against Ruffnut's hand
"I'll miss you Scauldy, but any time you visit I'll just kick out Tuffnut to make room" she said before Scauldy dived back into the water "Bye"
"Has anyone ever told you look like a boy?" Tuffnut asked
"Has anyone ever told you?" Ruffnut asked as they all made their way back to Berk
