A Tale of Two Dragons
It was a peaceful morning in Berk, nothing seemed out of usual until a horn was heard, so as fat as they could all of the teens got on their dragons
Astrid was flying towards the Great Hall until Snotlout flew pass her and almost kicked her off Stormfly's back
"Snotlout! What are you doing?!" Astrid yelled
"I'm sorry. Did I scare your girly dragon?" Snotlout asked not sounding too worried
"Out of my way, I have to get to the Great Hall" Astrid said
"No, you don't. I have to get the Great Hall, you have to get to the armory" Snotlout said
"Hiccup assigned me to the Great Hall yesterday, you heard him" Astrid said
"Tell you what, whoever gets there first gets to guard it" Snotlout said
"Fine by me" Astrid said just before Snotlout threw her a cod hitting her in the face "Snotlout!"
This also startled Stormfly making her shot some spikes almost hitting some Vikings in the process
"Ha, ha. Astrid, I thought you liked cod" Snotlout said but Astrid charged at him angrily "Oh no"
Stormfly and Hookfang slammed into each other and landed in the Great Hall, so seconds later all of the Vikings in there ran out as they panicked
Not too far away, Hiccup saw everything
"Oh, great, I can see my father's face already" he said
Indeed, Stoick wasn't very happy. All of the teens were reunited as the plaza being scolded by him
"When you told me you'll be running a Screaming Death attack drill I assumed you wouldn't actually try to destroy the entire village!" he said
"Technically, Chief, it was-" Fishlegs got interrupted when Blake covered his mouth
"Please don't say it, Fishlegs" he said
"Dad, this was supposed to be a practice but it got out of hand" Hiccup said "I'm sorry"
"Uh… a sorry doesn't unborn Silent Sven's chest hair" Gobber said, so they all looked at Silent Sven and realized it was true, his chest was still smoking
"No, it certainly does not" Stoick said before looking back at the teens "What brings me to your punishment"
Minutes later, the teens were at Mildew's cabbage field which not had rotted cabbages, big piles of dirt and rocks all over it
"Yuck, Mildew's cabbage field" Astrid complained
Fishlegs picked up a cabbage and sniffed it but he dropped it and covered his nose in disgust "This is revolting" he said
Then, the twins grabbed one cabbage each and began to eat them
"Actually, it's not that bad" Ruffnut said
"Yeah, don't judge until you try it" Tuffnut said before looking like he was about to throw up
"They are kind of right, it's not that bad once you get used to it" Blake said making everyone look at him "What? it's hard to plant stuff at Outcast Island, so much of the vegetables are not it a good state, so…"
"Uh… right… so, my dad wants this field cleared and ready for planting by the end of the week" Hiccup quickly said "Snotlout, Astrid, you break down and clear out the big boulders on the edge while-"
"Actually, that sounds more like a man's job" Snotlout interrupted proudly
"You're right, better give me Fishlegs instead" Astrid said
"Uh, Astrid, what do you see when you look around over here?" Snotlout asked before flexing his biceps and posing
"Is that a serious question?" Astrid asked unamused
"You see 5,000 pounds of boulder crushing power" Snotlout said as he hugged Hookfang's head
"Just make sure you don't slow me down, boulder boy" Astrid said before Hookfang shoved him away, he definitely wasn't enjoying the hug
All of the teens and their dragons began to work, even Barf and Belch were helping by eating dirt
"Hey, why do Barf and Belch get to have all the fun? Everyone else always tell us to use our heads" Tuffnut said
"I was just thinking the exact same thing" Ruffnut said before she and Tuffnut began to eat dirt along with their dragon
Fishlegs and Meatlug were carrying the boulders but Meatlug was looking at them hungrily at them
"Now, now, Meatlug, those boulders are for catapulting, not for eating" Fishlegs said before picking up a small rock and giving it to Meatlug "But they look delicious, don't they?"
Hiccup and Toothless were seeing everything from a small dirt hill
"You see, Toothless? It's all going perfectly-" Hiccup began but he stopped when he heard some fighting, they were Astrid and Snotlout who were fighting… again
"I told you to stay out of my way" Snotlout complained "This is Viking work"
"Exactly, so what are you doing here?" Astrid asked
Then, Hookfang shot a fire blast at Stormfly who jumped back and shot a fire stream
"Oh, that's productive" Hiccup said sarcastically "Toothless, plasma blast"
Toothless shot a plasma blast between Hookfang and Stormfly before placing himself between them. However, Toothless unexpectedly joined the fight
"Hookfang, stop!" Snotlout ordered trying to keep Hookfang under control but he wasn't paying much attention
"Stormfly!" Astrid yelled but Stormfly wasn't paying much attention either
"Guys, back your dragons away from each other!" Hiccup yelled
"I'm trying!" Snotlout argued
"Well, try harder!" Hiccup yelled
Not too far away, the rest of the teens were looking at everything
The twins looked excited for the fight but Fishlegs and Blake looked worried
"Uh… Thunder, do you mind?" Blake asked
Thunder nodded and shot a lightning blast between the three dragons backing them away enough so they could listen to their riders
"Okay, everyone, to that rock pile!" Hiccup ordered
The three of them were able to take their dragons to the rock pile but when they did the dragons calmed. However, Astrid and Snotlout wasted no time to get off their dragons to yell at each other to even notice
"What's wrong with you and your dumb dragon?!" Snotlout asked
"Guys" Hiccup called but neither Astrid or Snotlout listened
"My dumb dragon?! Your flaming Snotmare was trying to barbeque us!"
"Guys!" Hiccup called louder but still none of them listened
"Snotmare?! Snotmare?!" Snotlout yelled before looking back at Hookfang for a moment "I kind of like that"
"Ugh, you would" Astrid said
"Guys!" Hiccup called yet again but with the same results
"I would, huh?" Snotlout said
"Yeah, you would" Astrid said
"How about I call your dragon ugly?!" Snotlout asked
"I'll tell you who's ugly!" Astrid yelled
"Toothless" Hiccup said, so Toothless roared finally getting Astrid's and Snotlout's attention
"Thank you" Hiccup said looking at Toothless before looking back at Astrid and Snotlout "Now, would someone mind telling me what happened out there?"
"Simple. Hookfang and me were just trying to do our job when Stormfly went crazy and started shooting at us" Snotlout explained
"You gotta be kidding" Astrid said glaring at Snotlout "Hiccup, Stormfly and I were doing our job when this lunatic and his overgrown fire pit started attacking us"
"Oh, come on. When have we ever started a fight just for the sake of starting a fight?" Snotlout asked, so everyone stared at him
"Did he really just ask that?" Blake muttered
"Let me rephrase that" Snotlout said
"Never mind. Do you two think you can work together yes or no?" Hiccup asked but Snotlout and Astrid walked towards their dragons and flew away "Good"
"That was weird" Fishlegs said as he and Blake walked towards Hiccup
"Snotlout and Astrid trying to tear each other heads apart was weird?" Hiccup asked
"I think Fishlegs is talking about Hookfang and Stormfly" Blake said
"Yes. Hiccup, as much as Astrid and Snotlout love to torture each other Stormfly and Hookfang have always stand out of it" Fishlegs said
"Besides, why would Toothless join their fight?" Blake asked
Later that night, Hiccup was at his house feeding Toothless. Stoick was also there sharpening his axe
"So… son, how are things going in the field?" Stoick asked but he looked like he already knew what happened
"Oh, dad, it couldn't be going any better, we're really moving like a well-oiled catapult" Hiccup said
"Oh, really?" Stoick asked not sounding too convinced "Well, word around paddock that Astrid and Snotlout are trying to turn the catapults on each other"
"Oh… that's a uh… minor disagreement. You know how they are" Hiccup laughed nervously but then someone knocked on the door "In fact, I'm sure they've forgotten about it"
"Let's hope" Stoick said as Hiccup walked towards the door but when he opened it, he found himself face to face with Astrid
"Hiccup, I refuse to work with Snotlout" she said
"Oh, Astrid, what a beautiful night let's talk outside" Hiccup said taking Astrid outside before closing the door "Didn't we talk this out?"
"You talk, we listened as usual but I'm not going to put Stormfly in danger by working with that muttonhead who can't even control his own dragon" Astrid said
"Fine, fine, I'll deal with it tomorrow, I promise" Hiccup said placing a hand on Astrid's shoulder
"Thank you" Astrid said
"You're welcome" Hiccup said
He entered back into his house where Stoick looked at him with hints of a grin on his face
"Just academy business, no big deal" Hiccup said just before someone knocked on the door again "Late me take that"
Hiccup opened the door and saw Snotlout "Hiccup, I-" he began
"Look a full moon" Hiccup quickly interrupted as he pushed Snotlout outside. When they were both outside, Hiccup glared at Snotlout "You are killing me"
"Me!? Astrid has totally lost control of her dragon, she's probably attached by my manly presence" Snotlout said as he posed
"Are you insane?" Hiccup asked
"Hookfang sees it. Don't tell me you don't" Snotlout said but Hiccup only stared at him "Never him, here's the deal"
"Let me guess, you don't want to work with Astrid tomorrow?" Hiccup asked
"Exactly. Was that hard, Hiccup?" Snotlout asked as he walked towards Hookfang "Come on, Hookfang, let's work out our muscles"
Hiccup sighed frustrated before entering his house once again
"Problems, son?" Stoick asked as Hiccup closed the door
"Problems? What problems? No, no, no, everyone is happy, everything is great" Hiccup lied
"Good to hear" Stoick said
"Yep, yep, yep, everything is right as rain" Hiccup said
"If you say so" Stoick said
"I do, I say so" Hiccup said
There was a moment of silence but eventually, Hiccup couldn't take it anymore and began to say everything
"Okay, fine, you win! Snotlout and Astrid are driving me completely insane! They're acting like mental cases! I actually don't who's worse, them or their dragons! At least with the dragons you can lock them up in pens until they behave!" he said before taking some needed deep breaths
"Feel better?" Stoick asked
"Uh, a little" Hiccup said
"All right, Hiccup. There's three ways to deal with Vikings who aren't getting along" Stoick said
"I'm all ears" Hiccup said
"Option one: give them both axes and let them fight to the death" Stoick said as he raised his axe and stood from his chair
"That one sounds… uh, permanent" Hiccup said "What's option number two?"
"Give them both maces and let them fight to the end" Stoick said giving Hiccup a mace
"Do I even want to know what option number three is?" Hiccup asked almost falling
"Oh, it's quite devious and can have grisly repercussions but it can also go down like a treat. Around fifty-fifty either way" Stoick said
"I'm listening" Hiccup said
"You trick them into working together" Stoick said making Hiccup think for a moment
The next day at Mildew's cabbage field, Astrid and Stormfly were working next to a hill of dirt
"Shh, did you hear that?" Astrid asked
On the other side of the hill, Snotlout and Hookfang were working until Snotlout heard something
"Wait, it's coming from the other side of the hill" Snotlout said
Snotlout and Astrid climbed the hill and they quickly found themselves face to face with each other
"That little Hiccup" Snotlout muttered angrily
"Option three, I should have seen it coming" Astrid groaned annoyed "Well, Stormfly and I are going to prove that we're not the problem by working with you"
"Pfft, not as well as we're going to work with you. Right, Hookfang?" Snotlout asked
They both began to work with each other. Not too far away, Hiccup, Fishlegs and Blake saw everything
"Uh… did I hit my head or is that really happening?" Blake asked not believing what he was seeing
"It's really happening. Honestly, I wouldn't believe it if I wasn't seeing it with my own eyes" Fishlegs said
"Huh, I guess my dad was right. Then again, I did my own 'Hiccup' spin on it" Hiccup said but those words made Blake give a few steps back "What are you doing?"
"No offence, Hiccup, but most of the times when you do your own 'Hiccup' spin on things they don't end good" Blake said
"What makes you say that?" Hiccup asked "I just did what great leaders do, they take an idea and they shape it"
Blake didn't say anything and just pointed at something as an answer, Hiccup and Fishlegs looked where Blake was pointing and saw how Hookfang and Stormfly were fighting again
"Okay, maybe you were right, Blake" Hiccup said
Later that day, Hiccup took Astrid and Snotlout with their dragons to the academy
"Astrid, Snotlout, your dragons are out of control, but I think I know why. This is the day I always fear would come, your dragons have picked up on your animosity to each other and now they are behaving the same way" Hiccup said
"Is it my fault that me and Hookfang are so in sync?" Snotlout asked making Hookfang blow smoke behind him
Hiccup grabbed Snotlout's arm and pulled him towards Stormfly "But you have just given me an idea. You both need to walk a mile in each other's shoes" then, he grabbed Astrid's arm and pulled her towards Hookfang "Or in this case saddles"
Astrid and Snotlout weren't understanding what was happening but Hiccup looked happily at them "Perfect" he said
"You two are going to swap dragons for the day" Hiccup said
"What?!" Astrid and Snotlout asked
"Hiccup, are you sure it's a good idea?" a voice asked, it was Blake who was entering the academy "Don't you remember what happened when you and me did it?"
"I do remember it and for what I saw it didn't go well" Astrid said crossing her arms
"Okay, I know that could've been a lot better but I'm sure it'll work this time" Hiccup said
"But Stormfly is a girl dragon" Snotlout complained making Stormfly growl at him
"If you learn to understand each other's dragon, then maybe you can learn to understand each other" Hiccup said
"He's got a point" Blake said
"Please, I'm sure I could ride any dragon without problems" Snotlout said smugly
"Really? So, why don't you go ahead and try to ride Thunder?" Blake asked
"Sure thing" Snotlout scoffed
Snotlout walked towards Thunder and easily got on his back. At first, Thunder didn't do anything because he thought that Blake was the one riding him
"See? No problems" Snotlout said. However, when Thunder heard Snotlout's voice he looked back and realized who was really riding him, so he didn't hesitate to threw Snotlout off his back
"What was that, Snotlout? That you could ride any dragon without problems?" Astrid asked
"Shut up, Astrid" Snotlout said angrily as he got up
"Listen, just take the day off to get to know your new best friend, okay?" Hiccup asked
With no other choice, Astrid and Snotlout got on the other's dragon and flew away
"You know, if it doesn't work, we can always go for the fourth Outcast option to deal with Vikings who don't get along" Blake said as he walked towards Hiccup
"Which is?" Hiccup asked but he was sure he was going to regret asking
"Hitting them on their heads with a mace in order to leave them unconscious and hoping they don't remember why they were fighting for in the first place and if they still remember it, we'll just have to hit them again" Blake said before stopping to think in his own words "Actually, now that I say it out loud that kinda explains some stuff"
Later that day, Snotlout and Stormfly were flying through the sea stack mace but they were going so fast that Snotlout had to place a hand on his helmet
"Wow, Stormfly, you are a fast dragon!" Snotlout said "I mean, Hookfang is fast, but you are like racy fast!"
Then, Snotlout realized they were flying straight to a sea stack
"FAST DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING IF YOU CAN'T STOP!" he yelled
Stormfly did stop at a sea stack but Snotlout was throwed off her back and almost fell from the sea stack as well but he managed to grab the edge
"Okay, you can stop on a yak" Snotlout said "Little help?"
Meanwhile with Astrid, she and Hookfang landed at the forest in front of a tree
"So, Snotlout's always bragging about how much fire power you Nightamres have" Astrid said making Hookfang snort "Let's see what you got, big boy"
Hookfang wasted no time to shot a fire blast at the tree burning it completely
"Whoa! Incredibly dangerous but cool" Astrid said
Back with Snotlout, he and Stormfly were flying through the sea stack maze once again
"Okay, you think you can bring the heat?" Snotlout asked "Let's see how you do it, Stormfly"
Stormfly shot a stream of fire at a sea stack melting it completely, only a stump was left
"Whoa! I got to say that awesome" Snotlout said
Back with Astrid, she and Hookfang were flying through the forest
"Okay, wing span duly noted, not too hot, tail looks good" Astrid said checking on Hookfang's flight but then she looked forward "Tree!"
Hookfang saw the tree too, so he stopped all of the sudden and slammed his wings in front of him but this created a gust of wind that threw the three miles away
"Wow! I didn't know you could do that. Did you know you could do that? I bet Snotlout doesn't know you can do that" Astrid said
Back with Snotlout, he was testing Stormfly's flight
"Whoa! Okay, this is pretty fun" Snotlout said as Stormfly flew between the sea stacks "I can definitely get used to this"
Snotlout placed a hand on Stormfly's neck making shot one spike to a sea stack
"Wow, bull's-eye shot with a single shot. Bet Astrid doesn't know how to do that. Let's do it again" Snotlout said
They flew back to the sea stack and Snotlout placed his hand on Stormfly's neck making her shot another spike just were the first one was slicing through it
"Oh, stop it. Now you are just showing off, which is fine by me, I'm all about showing off" Snotlout said
That night, they returned to the academy where Hiccup and Toothless were waiting for them
"So, how was it?" Hiccup asked
"Stormfly flies pretty good. I mean, for a girl" Snotlout said getting off Stormfly's back "And she does melt solid rock in like half a second which is cool"
"She does indeed" Hiccup said before looking at Astrid "And, Astrid?"
"I guess Hookfang is pretty powerful and he's easy to fly, which is good if you have little talent" Astrid said looking slightly at Snotlout
"Yeah, I have little talent" Snotlout said before realizing what Astrid said "Wait, what?"
"Well, it sounds like you both have a better appreciation for each other's dragon. So… that means tomorrow you'll cut each other some slack
Snotlout and Astrid only looked at each other before talking
"Yeah, I guess" Astrid said not too excited
"Fine" Snotlout said not too excited at well "Can we go now?"
Hiccup nodded, so Astrid and Snotlout left on their respective dragons
"Baby steps, bud, baby steps" Hiccup said looking at Toothless
The next morning, Fishlegs and Blake returned to Mildew's cabbage field
"So… what are we doing here again?" Blake asked as he got off Thunder's back
"We're looking for clues. Maybe we can find out what really happened to Stormfly and Hookfang" Fishlegs said before noticing something "Nadder prints, excellent"
"There are some Monstrous Nightamre prints here" Blake said
They followed the prints leading them to where they began to fight
"This is where the trouble started" Fishlegs said
Then, Thunder seemed to smell something when he got close. Suddenly, he roared and shot a lighting blast at Fishlegs and Meatlug. Luckily, they dodged it
"Oh no, not you too, Thunder" Blake said
Thunder was getting closer to Meatlug and was about to shot another lighting blast at her but Blake put himself between them, so Thunder had to hold his attack not wanting to hurt his rider but he still roared angrily at Meatlug
"Thunder, calm down!" Blake said trying to push Thunder back. When they were some steps away, Thunder shook his head and calmed down
"Okay, we're definitely on the right spot" Blake said as he turned around just before Thunder nudged his hand and purred as an apology "It's okay, Thunder, no one was hurt"
Then, Meatlug start digging in what seemed to be a random spot but when she stopped, Fishlegs saw what she found
"Blake, I think you should come and see this" Fishlegs said, so Blake walked towards the hole and looked inside
"We better tell the others about this" Blake said
Meanwhile at the academy, Astrid and Snotlout were trying to enter as stealthy as they could, each of them had a food with them
Suddenly, their backs touched, so they jumped in surprise, they turned around and hid the food behind their backs
"What are you doing here?" Astrid asked
"Nothing, what are you doing here?" Snotlout asked
Astrid tried to think in a good excuse but she saw what Snotlout was hiding behind his back
"That's chicken? Stormfly's favorite" Astrid said before realizing what was going on "Did you come here to feed my dragon?"
"No… maybe… yeah" Snotlout said "But what are you doing? I smell something fishy"
Astrid sighed and showed Snotlout the fish she had "Fine, maybe I bought Hookfang a little breakfast"
"He loves breakfast. That was actually nice of you" Snotlout said
Then, both of them realized what was happening
"You like my dragon?!" Astrid and Snotlout asked
"Don't tell anyone, okay?" Snotlout asked
"Deal" Astrid said
They entered the academy they found opened the pens that had Stormfly and Hookfang
"The dragons are gone" Astrid gasped
Minutes later, Hiccup and the twins arrived to investigate what was happening
"We've done a lot of dumb things in our lives, but we have never lost a dragon. Not a whole one" Tuffnut said
"I am verry disappointed in you, young lady" Ruffnut said looking at Astrid who groaned annoyed
"Okay, okay, they can't be too far" Hiccup said "We'll split up and-"
Hiccup got interrupted when Fishlegs and Blake flew in
"Hiccup, Fishlegs and I might know where they are" Blake said
They quickly flew to Mildew's cabbage field, Astrid was riding with Hiccup while Snotlout had to ride with Blake
When they arrived, they found Hookfang and Stormfly circling around the hole Meatlug made earlier
"We need to break this up" Snotlout said
"Who knows what they'll do to each other" Astrid said
"I'm open to ideas" Hiccup said
"Drop me in" Astrid said
"Me too" Snotlout said
Hiccup and Blake flew down, so when they were down enough Astrid and Snotlout jumped from the dragons' backs
"Fishlegs, Blake, how did you know they were going to be here?" Hiccup asked
"Meatlug found something in the field, look" Blake said pointing down
Hiccup looked down and saw something in the hole, it was like some kind of plant or root
"Dragon root" Hiccup said
"Not dragon root, that's terrible" Tuffnut said
"You don't actually know what dragon root is, do you?" Hiccup asked
"Not even slightly, not even the faintest. I mean, I think I know what dragon means" Tuffnut said
"Dragon root is like dragon nip but more powerful, dragons want it but instead of making them happy and calm, it makes them…" Fishlegs said
"Want to rip each other apart wing from wing" Tuffnut said
"Exactly" Fishlegs said
"Cool" Ruffnut said
"Sounds good, do they have it for people?" Tuffnut asked
"We can't leave Astrid and Snotlout down there, we have to help" Hiccup said
"But how? When Thunder was affected by the dragon root one of the first things he did was shooting a lightning blast" Blake said
On the ground, Astrid and Snotlout were trying to calm their dragons down without success
"Stormfly, calm down. It's me, everything is okay" Astrid said as she ducked to avoid Stormfly's tail
Snotlout tried to jump on Hookfang's neck but he moved, so he landed on the dirt
"They are ignoring us" Snotlout said "How do he get their attention?"
"Well, I have an idea but it's stupid and reckless" Astrid said
"You had me at 'stupid'" Snotlout said
Stormfly shot a fire stream at Hookfang who stopped it with his wings, Stormfly was about to charge at Hookfang but stopped when Astrid got in the way
"Stormfly, if you want to attack him, you'll have to get through me" Astrid said
Hookfang wanted to take the opportunity to attack Stormfly, but Snotlout got in the way
"Look, Hookfang, we both know you can totally kick Stormfly's tail, but if you want to try, you'll get through me" Snotlout said
Slowly, Stormfly and Hookfang began to walk away from the dragon root while the other teens saw everything from the sky
"What are they doing?" Fishlegs asked
"I'm not sure, but I think they might be acting like a team" Hiccup said
"Okay, maybe the stew I ate last night wasn't in a good state because I think I'm starting to see things" Blake said rubbing the back of his head
Eventually, Stormfly got enough away from the dragon root to allow Astrid place a hand on her snout
"That's my girl" Astrid said
Snotlout nervously placed his hand on Hookfang's snout but he returned to normal too
"You big knuckle head" Snotlout said
"They did it" Hiccup said "We need to get down there but none of us can get close to that root without our dragons going nuts" Hiccup said
"That's not exactly true, Hiccup. Meatlug didn't go crazy" Fishlegs said
"Maybe Meatlug's rock diet makes her immune to the dragon root effects" Hiccup said just before Barf and Belch attacked them with a small gas explosion
"What are you two doing?" Fishlegs asked
"They are out of control!" the twins said
"You're too close to the dragon root. Pull up!" Hiccup said
"Pull up?! Are you crazy?!" Ruffnut asked
"This is awesome!" Tuffnut said
"I'm going for the root, cover us!" Fishlegs said as he flew down, he and Meatlug quickly landed, so Meatlug bit the dragon root and tried to pull it out but it wasn't working "Come on, girl. Lift with your legs"
Barf and Belch were about to dive at the dragon root but a plasma blast and a lighting blast stopped them
"I'm so sorry about this" Hiccup said
"We're not!" the twins said
"This is the best day ever!" Tuffnut yelled before Barf and Belch attacked Hiccup and Blake with another gas explosion
"Uh, Fishlegs, we'll thank you if you hurry up" Blake said
"She can't do it by herself" Fishlegs said just before Barf and Belch flew around him, spreading some gas in the process
Not too far away, Astrid and Snotlout were seeing everything
"I think we better do something" Snotlout said
"I think I have an idea" Astrid said
"Is it stupid and reckless?" Snotlout immediately asked
"Maybe even a little crazy" Astrid said
"I love it!" Snotlout yelled
Barf and Belch continued to spread gas around Fishlegs and Meatlug until Stormfly zoomed pass them
"Astrid! You're a sight for sore eyes" Fishelgs said happily but he got surprised when he saw who was really riding Stormfly, Snotlout
"Who are you calling Astrid?" he said
"Snotlout?! What?! where's Astrid?!" Fishlegs asked
"Looking for me?!" Astrid asked, so Fishlegs looked at her and realized she was riding Hookfang
"Astrid?" Hiccup asked "What are you-?"
"We switched dragons again, it's the only way we can keep them from fighting with each other" Astrid explained
"He can sniff all dragon root all day but Hookfang would never attack Snotlout, he respects him too much" Snotlout said
Barf and Belch quickly began to spread more gas around Fishlegs and Meatlug but Astrid saw this
"Do it, Hookfang, wing blast!" Astrid ordered, so Hookfang used his wings to create a gust of wind powerful enough to send Barf and Belch to the ground. The twins also cheered before fainting
"What was that?" Snotlout asked
"You mean this?" Astrid asked before Hookfang created another gust of wind trying to help Meatlug to pull out the dragon root
"It's still stuck!" Astrid said and to make things worse, Barf and Belch were recovering
"I'm on it! Stormfly, single spine shot" Snotlout said as he placed his hand on Stormfly's neck, so she shot one spike that freed the dragon root from the ground
Meatlug began to fly with the dragon root but Barf and Belch were about to follow her, so Toothless had to held their tails to stop them
"Good job, guys" Hiccup said
"Fishlegs, do you mind taking that away from here?" Blake asked
"Dragon root, flying out" Fishlegs said as he flew away
"You do realize what happened, right?" Hiccup asked looking at Snotlout and Astrid as they all flew to the village
"We totally kicked butt" Snotlout said
"Exactly, and you did it together" Hiccup said
"I never thought this day would come" Blake said
"Huh, not me, I try not to think" Tuffnut said
Then, Astrid and Snotlout looked at each other awkwardly
"That was some fancy flying on my dragon" Astrid said
"You know how it is, chicks dig me" Snotlout said
"Yeah, that must be it" Astrid said
"Ha, Hookfang isn't always the easiest dragon to fly, Astrid. I have to admit I'm impressed" Snotlout said
"So… do you think I can have my dragon back now?" Astrid asked
"I thought you'll never ask" Snotlout said, so he and Astrid jumped to their respective dragons
"Good to see you again, girl" Astrid said patting Stormfly
"Did you miss me?" Snotlout asked as he hugged Hookfang before whispering "We can do something about the girl smell later"
Later that evening, the teens were working once again on Mildew's cabbage field but this time under Stoick's supervision
"So, Snotlout, can you teach me how to do that single spine attack?" Astrid asked as she walked towards Snotlout
"I don't know if you can handle it" Snotlout said "Why don't you show me that wing clap thingy first and I'll think about it"
"How stupid do you think I am?" Astrid asked
"How stupid is there?" Snotlout asked
Not too far away, Stoick and Hiccup were looking at them
"Option three" Stoick said placing a hand on Hiccup's shoulder "Not as exciting as one or two"
"But sure goes down like a treat" Hiccup said "And it's definitely better than the fourth option Blake told me"
"So, there's a fourth option. What is it about?" Stoick asked
"It's probably better if you don't know" Hiccup said
