After Aaron left Emily's apartment that night, he was angry. How couldn't she feel the same way about him. He thought that the feeling was mutual. How could he be so wrong? and How could Emily be so stubborn that she wasn't hearing what he was saying. He just confessed to her that he loved her and she completely just ignored him. He was hurt and he didn't know what else to do. He didn't want to go home to an empty apartment since Jack was with Marissa and Natalia. Although he would be coming home soon, he called Jessica to be there when he got home. He ended up doing the very thing he didn't want to do, he wasn't that person, but he needed a moment to himself so he headed to the nearest bar. When he arrived, he sat at the bar and ordered a drink. After a few drinks, he caught the glimpse of a very beautiful woman, nothing compared to Emily but still beautiful. He smiled at her and nodded for her to come this way.
"Hello, my name is Beth." she shook his hand as she sat in the chair next to him
"Hi Beth, my name is Aaron. Nice to meet you."
"it's nice to meet you as well."
Then they talked for a couple of hours, although he was in love with Emily, it felt refreshing to talk to someone who he didn't have a history with. To learn someone new and get to know someone. To not have to worry about what to say and when to say it, felt refreshing. He almost felt guilty, he was talking to another woman hours after he confessed that he loved another. She was great, he loved her personality and the sense of humor but there was one problem, she wasn't Emily.
When Aaron looked at his watch, he noticed that it was late. He paid for his tab and was getting ready to leave.
"Leaving?" she asked as she stood up from her chair as well.
"Yeah, I have to get going. I have a babysitter watching my son right now and I have to get up for work early tomorrow. "
"You have kids?" she asked
"Yeah. I don't know how this didn't get mentioned before but yes I have two." He technically wasn't lying, he did have two kids but one of them hasn't been born yet but he wasn't going to go down that rabbit hole tonight. He didn't want to scare her.
"Well. here's my number, in case you want a break from kids and work. " she wrote down her number on a napkin and handed it to him.
"Thanks Beth. It was really nice to meet you."
"You as well." He smiled at her and walked away.
Being with Beth even if it was just for a few hours at a random bar, it felt refreshing. No drama, no history, no nothing. Just random strangers meeting for the first time.
After he got home, he thanked Jessica for watching Jack and headed in for bed. When he finally got into bed, he smiled when he thought about the conversations they shared. He was lost in his own little world when he happen to look over to his left and saw the sonogram photo. He was reminded of Emily and the baby. The smile quickly fell. He reached over and flipped the sonogram over. He wasn't ashamed of his child, never, he just for right now didn't want any reminders of Emily and what unfolded tonight. He closed his eyes and quickly fell into a deep slumber.
1 month later- October-
Things between Aaron and Emily have been awkward. They really don't speak to each other unless it about a case or the baby. He attends every appointment with her still but they split after the appointment. They don't do the things they used to do after an appointment. Emily felt guilty, she lied to him about how she felt. She was scared that it would ruin what they had but she couldn't tell him that, not now, not anymore. She was just going to live with it and just go with life. the closer it came to her due date, the more stressed she got and the situation with Aaron wasn't helping.
She was sitting at her desk when Morgan and Rossi came up to her and gave her a look.
"Can I help you?" she asked irritatedly
"Can we help you with any of that Em?"
She took a deep breath and calmed her voice, "Thank you, I appreciate it but I don't have very many left. I think I got it. Thank You though."
"Oh come on Princess. Let us help you. With Reid being gone for a little bit, I know it can get a little overwhelming."
"I truly appreciate it guys, but I just want to keep my mind focused on other things rather than thinking about how I'm going to have a baby in one month and I have nothing ready."
"Okay. Well please let us know if you need anything. My door is always open."
"Thanks Rossi. "
After they left, Emily looked over at Aaron and he was on the phone, and he had the biggest smile on his face. She knew that smile, he used to give it to her but he doesn't anymore, not since that night. She wondered who he could be talking to, could it be Jack? or could it be another woman? If it was, she knew that she couldn't stop it. Who was she to be mad at him for being with someone else when he offered himself to her and she rejected him. She looked down and focused on her charts that were sitting in front of her. She tried to hide the tears that were starting to come down her face. She was lost in her own little world when both JJ and Penelope approached her.
"Em are you okay?" JJ asked as her smile dropped the closer she got to her.
"Honestly no." then the flood of tears came.
"Okay come with us. We need to get you out of here." Penelope said
Emily slowly got up and glanced over at Aaron. He was still on the phone but his head was facing toward them. He made eye contact with her. He could tell that she had been crying. Garcia and JJ were helping her out of the chair when he stood up and quickly hung up the phone.
"Everything okay? " Aaron asked as he stepped foot out of his office.
"Yeah. Em just needs some fresh air. "
"Okay... Prentiss, are you sure that you are okay?"
"Yeah. Thanks Hotch. I just need some fresh air. I've been sitting too long"
He nodded and went back into his office. He watched her walk out of the BAU and into the elevators.
He looked down at his phone and saw that he had a text from Beth.
"Are we still meeting tonight?"
"Yes, I'll meet you at 7 tonight."
"Great, See you then!"
He didn't know what he was doing or what he wanted. He just was trying to figure things out for himself. He was just confused and instead of not dealing with the problem itself, he was doing what kept his mind off of all things, and that was Beth. She made him feel a way that he hasn't felt in a while. He just wanted to feel these things before everything changed.
He knew that he was going to have to tell Beth about Emily and the baby but he didn't want to ruin it yet with his baggage.
He was finally content and he just didn't want it ruined, not just yet. He knew that the bubble was going to pop soon. He just didn't know when.
