Flagg walked right into the Swamp where both BJ and Hawkeye were sitting on their bunks studying the chess board between them.
"Beej, I guess we'd better get that doorbell fixed," Hawkeye noted.
"Hawk, you are right – otherwise just anyone could come in," BJ responded.
Flagg looked disgusted as he considered the two doctors.
"What do you know?" he asked.
"About what?" Hawkeye answered.
"The Black Market. I know you two bend the rules. I have good reason to believe you are breaking them," Flagg answered angrily.
"I guess he's not here to play chess," BJ said.
"No. Looks like it's just me and you, again," Hawkeye stated.
"I am not here to play games or chess. When the camp runs low on supplies, it means doctors would need the most," Flagg noted.
"Flagg, we're surgeons. If we don't have what we need, someone might die," BJ firmly stated, "So, we improvise. If others are using the black market, it's something we don't know about. We're just thankful to have the necessary medical implements."
"Because taking care of the wounded is pretty much the only reason the 4077th exists," Hawkeye added.
"Yeah, there's that," BJ continued.
Flagg, unsurprisingly, was getting impatient, "You two probably think you are funny."
"I guess we are sometimes, aren't we Beej?" Hawkeye asked.
"Sounds about right to me," BJ followed.
Flagg's face was turning red. He walked over to the chess board and flipped it over. The pieces scattered. "Now, do I have your attention?" he queried.
Hawkeye and BJ nodded.;
"Good. I have questions and I want answers," Flagg was increasingly frustrated. Tell me about your dealings with the Black Market."
"Colonel," BJ followed, "I think we already explained that we don't deal with the Black Market."
Hawkeye added, "Unless you want a different answer."
"How about five? Is that a better answer?" BJ said.
"Or thumb tacks," Hawkeye followed.
"Maybe the answer is the ammo dump," BJ was laughing.
"Beej, that's really good. I was about to suggest that myself. The Colonel could search in there and have a blast," Hawkeye replied.
"You jokers have no respect for military regulations or policies. I wish I had enough to throw the book at you," Flagg said.
"And what book would it be? If it's 'Gone With The Wind,' that could be very paienful," Hawkeye added;
"I'm leaving but I will be back again," Flagg almost shouted.
"Like General MacArthur," BJ proposed.
"Flagg, we have no dealings with the Black Market. I don't know how to make it clearer. We know in the next couple of days that the war is going to pick up. and we'll be swamped with young men who need medical attention. Serious work. This is a hospital, not a circus," Hawkeye was adamant.
Flagg turned and walked out without saying a word.
"We should let Colonel Potter know about this, Hawk," BJ added.
"Let us visit his office, now. If he's not in we'll leave a message with Klinger," Hawkeye remarked.
"Who was winning the chess game before we were so rudely interrupted?" BJ asked as he and Hawkeye left the Swamp.
"I'm not sure," said Hawkeye.
"Neither do i. We hadn't been playing very long," BJ added.
"Colonel Flagg is always available to lend paranoia or wreck a chess game in progress," Hawkeye inferred.
"It's what he does best," BJ added as they were about to enter Colonel Potter's office.
