Chapter 8: A Trip To Vale

The office was silent after Ruby explained the full extent of her inhumanity. She looked from person to person, trying to get a read on what they were thinking. Ruby was worried that they all would look at her differently than they had for the past 2 weeks. She had grown to like having friends and family again and she did not want to lose it.

Finally, Weiss spoke up. "So… Let's get this straight." She started taking a deep breath and steepling her fingers. "When you were first taken, these Chozo, highly advanced bird-like aliens, gave you their DNA so that you could survive on the planet you were raised on…"

Ruby nodded and turned to look at Pyrrha who continued the summary, "and when you were infected by a space parasitic virus, the only way to cure you was using the DNA of a biological weapon made by the very same Chozo,"

Ruby nodded again, this time Yang was the one to finish, "And because of the mix of DNA, you are part space bird, part energy draining parasite, and during your most recent mission, unlocked the full extent of those powers."

Ruby was getting a little uncomfortable with the looks she was getting from everyone in the office. "Yes, that about sums it up. Look, that doesn't make me any less human than you guys are, it just-""THAT IS SO AWESOME!" Both Yang and Nora yelled catching Ruby off guard

"I can't believe that my little sister is a bonafide badass space bounty hunter AND a powerful alien hybrid to boot!" Yang exclaimed as she embraced her sister.

Ruby was in complete shock, they did not hate her? She had just told them that she was part alien and they were fine with that?! "Y-You guys don't hate me?" Ruby said, her voice fragile.

"Why would we, you dolt? You are not much different from Blake and we are fine with her." Weiss stated, "and besides, I already told you that I would be her for you." Ruby was not sure, but she could have sworn that she saw a hint of red on the pale girl's face.

"You do realize, I have killed people, right? That is what a bounty hunter does." This caused the room to go silent.

"What kind of people were they?" Blake asked

"Murderers, Terrorists, Monsters, mostly Space Pirates, …corrupted friends." Ruby whispered the last part, but Blake still heard it, but she stayed silent.

"Funny thing, I have actually killed myself three times now…" Ruby stated with a pondering look.

"What! How? And how can you say it so nonchalantly," Weiss stated in outrage.

"I mentioned the Phazon incident, correct?" Ruby asked, earning a nod from everyone. "That was the first time with Dark Rose being a combination of Metroid Prime, Phazon, and me."

Everyone nodded at this remembering the story, shivering at the thought of the evil creature that made Grimm seem like teddy bears (Or Salem like a sugar loving child to those aware of her existence)

"The second time was on a BSL research station orbiting SR388, the home of Metroids and X. It was the X infected parts of my suit that I had to face as they grew to form 10 X copies of myself, fully upgraded and everything while I was reduced to a less armored version of my suit and the power beam."As Ruby explained that, most gasped in horror.

Ruby then pulled up another video, showing when Ruby first saw RB-X. The video showed Ruby in the Fusion Suit, from a camera in the room, get on an elevator and descend to another area. Moments later there is an explosion and when the dust clears they see another Ruby, this time in her original armor. The camera zooms in on the face and shows Ruby, her eyes only white orbs, before it cuts to static. After seeing that, everyone was thoroughly creeped out.

"I was able to regain enough of my upgrades to defeat one of them, though it was a pain to fight it when it had the ice beam." Ruby explained.

"Why specifically ice?" Pyrrha asked. The other agreed with her question.

Ruby sighed, she was not looking forward to this part. "Metroids have one weakness. The cold."

It took a few seconds for this to sink in before Blake spoke up. "Is that why you scrambled away from the Deathstalker during initiation? Not because of the Grimm, but the ice?" She asked, Weiss flinched at realizing that she nearly hurt her partner very badly. Everyone started to understand the condition Ruby was in. The cold can be deadly for her.

Ruby nodded, "Yes, as part Metroid, the cold is also deadly to me. I am able to be in sub zero temperatures thanks to my Varia and Gravity modules which protects me from temperature extremes and other hazards, but without them I am very weak to the cold. I really need to get something that will protect me from ice, one of the more common types of Dust is ice afterall."

"By extreme temperature, does that include heat as well?" asked Goodwitch, she and the Headmaster had been quietly listening this whole time.

"Well, I can stand inside an active volcano, I can even stand in lava with the Gravity module." Ruby said, giving a thoughtful look.

"Wait, why does your Aura not protect you from the cold?" asked Ren, bringing up one of Aura's useful abilities.

"I don't know," Ruby admitted, "It may have been altered for me. I am really going to need something to shield me from cold weather without my suit."

Suddenly, Nora was all in her face. "You can swim in LAVA!? What else can that suit do? Can I try it? I wanna break alien legs!"

"Easy there, " Ruby said, pushing the girl back a bit. "It's not that easy. At this point, the armor is part of my own biology, no one else other than me can use it." This earned an "aawww" from Nora.

"That reminds me actually, I want you guys to meet someone," She pressed a button on her arm cannon and a hologram projector activated on her helmet on the table, showing Adam the AI in all his glory. "Meet General Adam Malkovich, a good friend of mine and my CO when I was in the GF army."

"It is a pleasure to finally meet you all. I appreciate you all helping to keep my reckless and sometimes incompetent charge." Adam introduced himself.

Ruby's eyes widened in outrage as some people in the room snickered at Adam's comment. "I am not reckless or incompetent!" she argued.

Adam turned and looked at her, giving a deadpan look. "Do I need to remind you of the time you let the Metroid Queen on SR388 eat you so you could blow it up from the inside? What about the time you used a broken electrical unit to electrify your suit in order to kill Draygon on Zebes, causing damage to yourself at the same time." He stated, causing Ruby to sputter in protests.

"Wha- Wait! But! I-" She tried, but her protests were for not as Adam continued to verbally tear into Ruby.

"I already reminded you about when you nearly flew into a Gas Giant," Adam said, Earning a few astonished giggles from the crowd and more protests from Ruby.

"How about the fact that you have blown up a grand total of FIVE ENTIRE PLANETS!" This last one had a few people blanching. They may have been told of Ruby's exploits, but hearing the fact that Ruby had been the cause of entire planets exploding, that was terrifying. "Lady, I can do this all day."

Ruby simply hung her head in defeat. Then she perked up, a look of confusion on her face. "Wait… How do you know that I electrocuted myself to kill Draygon? I don't remember putting that much detail into my reports."

"I have my ways, Lady. I have my ways…" Adam finished cryptically. At this point everyone was laughing at Ruby's reaction to her AI.

The rest of the week passed without further incident. Pyrrha started helping Jaune train, Ruby even offered to help him and anyone else interested work on their combat skills and teach them a bit about fighting Space Pirates, in case they ran into them again. They had not had a lesson yet, but everyone from RWBY and JNPR were interested.

It was now the weekend and team RWBY was spending some time exploring Vale. They came across people setting up for the Vytal Festival.

"The Vytal Festival! Oh this is absolutely wonderful!" exclaimed Weiss as they watched the people setting up.

Speaking of this festival, what exactly is it about?" Ruby asked in curiosity. Immediately regretting it as Weiss went into a lecture about how the festival marks the end of the great war and is to celebrate the peace, and the cultures of the world.

"There will be dances, parades, and a tournament!" Weiss continued, Ruby actually found the concept great. "Oh the amount of planning and organization that goes into this event is simply breathtaking." And that just ruined the wonder.

"You really know how to take a good thing and make it sound boring." Yang drawled, inciting an indigent "Quiet you." From Weiss.

Ruby smiled at her team's antics. Even after telling them what she was, that team did not seem to change much. In fact, the team seemed closer than ever with all of the secrets out. "I am so glad I have this team." Ruby thought

The team arrived at the Vale docks as a ship's horn blared. "Remind me again why we're spending our Friday afternoon visiting the stupid, fish stinking docks? Yang complained.

"Not the worst thing I smelled, some of the areas in Brinstar made me glad that I had cent filters in my helmet with how rancid they were, even then, it still stank." Ruby stated.

I've heard that students visiting from Vacuo will be arriving by ship today." Weiss stated, "And as a representative of Beacon I feel as though it is my solemn duty to welcome them to this fine kingdom."

Ruby's eyebrow rose in amusement, "aren't you from Atlas though?" she asked.

"Ah, Wha- Yes, but…" Weiss sputtered, taken by surprise.

"Translation: She wants to spy on the competition," Blake said, with a teasing smile.

"You can't prove anything," Weiss protested with a pout.

It was then that they noticed a store that looked completely trashed. To be specific, it was a Dust store. There was yellow tape everywhere, and police investigators were milling about with Scroll Pads taking notes. The team walks over to investigate.

"What happened here?" Ruby asked one of the investigators.

The man looked up to see the girls standing on the other side of the police tape. "Robbery. Second Dust shop to be hit this week. This place is turning into a jungle." The man replied.

"That's terrible." Yang comments as they look at the building. The windows were broken, shelves knocked over, and Dust dispensers empty.

"They left all the money again." a police officer comments, catching the team's attention. "Yeah, just doesn't make a lick o' sense. Who needs that much Dust?" commented another officer.

"That officer makes a good point, why would you need that much?" Weiss asks.

They continue to listen to the officers. "You thinking it was the White Fang?" asked the first officer, Blake wincing at the accusation.

"Ya, I'm thinking we don't get paid enough." said the second detective as the team walked off thinking about what they just heard.

"It couldn't have been the 'Fang. They have never needed this much Dust!" Blake said. They others couldn't help but agree, it made no sense.

"I understand your feelings about this Blake, and I agree it makes no sense, but you have to admit that it is a possibility." Weiss said, trying to be gentile about it.

"I know, but I can't just accept that. We only want equity (A/N equity not equality, there is a difference) and to be accepted by humans. Why would they do something like this?" Blake said, obviously pained by the idea that the organization could possibly do this.

Ruby did not directly answer Blake's question. Instead she reached up to her heart, tapping the ear piece to call Adam. "Hey, Adam. Any ideas?" She asked.

[I do not have anything as of yet. I will do some scanning and look into any possible 'Fang movements.] replied the AI.

Ruby turned to her team. "Adam has nothing, but is looking into the issue. If something comes up, he will know and tell me. It also could be Roman Torchwick, the police never caught him."

Yang looked at her sister with a smirk, "Must be nice having eyes in the sky. Mr Robo Brain seems to really take a liking to you." she said teasingly.

Ruby winced at the brain comment, "Please don't call him Robo Brain. I have meet a real artificial/robot brain and it was not an experience I want to repeat." Ruby thought back to when she nearly was killed by Mother Brain and shivered. "Besides, I see him as more of a father figure honestly."

The team was about to walk away when they heard, "Hey! Stop that faunus!" They turned around and watched a blond monkey faunus jump off of a ship as he ran from the crew members. "Thanks for the ride, guys! Hehe." he called back to the crew members.

He ran across the docks and jumped onto a lamp post and began to hang from it by his tail, while eating a banana. "Wait, where did he even get that?" Ruby wondered.

"You no-good stow-away!" screamed one of the crew members after the blondie.

"Hey! A 'no-good' stow-away would have been caught. I'm a great stow-away." the faunus called back. He was then confronted by the officers from earlier, only to drop the banana peel on one of their faces and run away.

He passed the team, winking at Blake who returned it with an annoyed eye roll, before running in the opposite direction. Yang turned to Weiss, "Well Weiss, you wanted to see the competition and there it goes."

"Quick! We have to observe him!" Weiss said as she dashed after the faunus, the rest of her team following.

They followed the chase, turning the corner, only for Weiss to run into someone. "No1 He got away!" complained Wiess.

"Uuuuhh, Weiss…?" Yang said awkwardly pointing at the person that Weiss had run into. Weiss looked down to see a ginger girl, with a white shirt, black pants, and a skirt with green highlights.

"Euh!" Weiss jumped up and back from the girl on the ground, who continued to lay there.

"Sal-u-tation!" the girl greeted. Ruby could not help but notice that the girl seemed a bit stiff, robotic even. She also could not shake the feeling of familiarity coming from the girl.

"Um… Hello." said Ruby, as the others looked at the odd girl.

"Are you… okay?" asked Yang, seemingly directly asking why the girl was acting so strangely.

"I'm wonderful. Thank you for asking." the girl stated enthusiastically. The team looked at eachother, unsure of the girl.

"Do you… wanna get up?" Yang asked again carefully.

After an uncomfortable pause, the girl said "Yes!" and got up, using her hands to throw herself into a standing position.

"Something is definitely wrong with this girl," Ruby thought as she stepped back along with her team.

"My name is Penny. It's a pleasure to meet you!" the now named Penny said.

The team introduces themselves, Yang asking if the girl was sure she hadn't hit her haid, earning a jab to the ribs from Blake before she says her name. "It's a pleasure to meet you!" Penny said, repeating herself.

"You already said that." Weiss said. At this point the entire team was getting a bit weirded out.

"So I did!" Penny stated after a pause. "This girl seems to be very… Naive? Honestly, she seems nice, but does not understand social practices." Ruby thought.

"Well, sorry for running into you." Weiss said as the team turned to leave. "Take care, friend!" Ruby said as she followed. Little did she know how big of an impact this comment had on the redhead.

"She was weird," Yang said as they walked away.

"Now, where did that monkey boy go?" Weiss asked. She turned to look back in front of her to see Penny standing there.

"What did you call me?" Penny asked, causing Yang to panic, apologizing frantically, as Weiss was having an existential crisis about how the girl got in front of them so quickly.

"No, not you," Penny said to Yang and turned to Ruby. "You! You called me friend! Am I really your friend?" She said, getting all up in Ruby's face, or at least trying to. Penny was 5 foot 5 inches and was dwarfed by Ruby's 6 foot 3 inches.

Ruby was not sure how to respond and glanced at her team. They were giving her 'No' hand signals, but Ruby felt bad for this girl. "Sure, why not." Ruby said with a shrug, amused by her team's antics as they fell to the ground, though she did wonder where that gong sound came from.

"Ahaha! Sen-sational!" Penny exclaimed "We can paint out nails, and try on clothes, and talk about cute boys!"

Ruby laughed at the girl's antics. "Sorry Penny, but I am not into those things. Maybe we can just hang out sometime." Ruby suggested.

"That sounds wonderful!" was Penny's enthusiastic reply.

"Soo, what are you doing in Vale?" asked Yang.

"I'm here to fight in the tournament." She said, as if it was obvious.

"Wait… you're fighting in the tournament?" Weiss said skeptical.

"I'm combat ready!" Panny said with a salute.

Weiss was still not convinced. "Forgive me, but you hardly look the part." she said, taking in the view of the supposed competitor.

"Says the girl wearing a dress." Comments Blake, looking at the white dress the resident Ice Queen had on for her combat outfit.

"It's a 'combat skirt'." Weiss argued.

In another reality, Ruby might have agreed with Weiss, but here, not so much. "Not to mention the stilts on your feet." Ruby said, indicating towards Weiss's high heels

Weiss did not know what to say to this, deciding to change the topic. "What a minute. If you're here for the tournament, does that mean you know that monkey-tailed faunus?" she asked.

"There she goes, back to gathering information on possible rivals for the tournament." Ruby thought.

"The who?" asked Penny in confusion.

"Never mind." Weiss said defeated.

"Well Penny, it was nice meeting you, but we need to get going. See you around." Ruby said as she and her team started to walk off.

"Bye, friend Ruby!" Penny called after them before walking away herself.

The team walked to the Bullhead air pads and got on an airship back to Beacon. On the way, Ruby could not help but notice Blake's downcast look.

"Hey, Blake. That stuff about the White Fang still bothering you?" Ruby asked, getting the attention of the rest of the team.

Sighing, Blake responded, "Yah. I just… I just can't see the White Fang doing these things. I need see if it really has been the White Fang."

The others looked at her with an apologetic look. It was then that Adam spoke to Ruby. [Lady, I have something that may be of interest. Tomorrow night, there will be an SDC shipment containing enough Dust to provision a small army or blow open a mountain arriving at the docks. You may be able to investigate it with your team, maybe even JNPR.]

Ruby thought about that for a minute, then said, "That sounds like a good idea, in that case. How is Project R.P.S. going?"

[All units are ready and waiting for user syncing.] Replied Adam.

Ruby smiled and turned to her team who were looking at her with questioning faces. "I have an idea. But first we need JNPR. Head back to the dorms and get them. I will meet you guys at the temple where we got the relics.

Ruby was standing in front of the stairs that lead down to the Chozo temple that she had cleared when WBY and JNPR arrive.

"Alright Ruby, why did you drag us here in the middle of the night." asked Jaune.

Ruby turned to face the others. "Well, Blake wanted to investigate the White Fang to see if they really were behind the Dust robberies. I got some intel from Adam saying that a large SDC shipment will be arriving tomorrow evening, so I thought why not have that be our first mission, and why not invite our close friends who have already faced some crazy things with us?"

Everyone was surprised by this, Blake especially seeing that Ruby was doing a lot to help her. "That still does not explain why we are here. And why is there a staircase behind you?" asked Weiss

Ruby smiled, "I am glad you asked. I just thought you guys could do with an upgrade." With that she started walking down the steps. The two teams looked at each other in confusion before following her.

When they reached the bottom, they were in a dark room. They could see and hear that there were a lot of machines, but there was not enough light to get any details.

Ruby turned around and spoke again to her friends. "I've shown you guys my suit and weapons. They are a lot more powerful than most of the stuff here on Remnant and with the fact that the Space Pirates are here and we never know when we will be facing them, I thought you guys could use some alien tech of your own."

With that, the lights turn on, revealing 7 tubes with a suit in each of them. "I present to you, Project R.P.S., short for Remnant Power Suits" Ruby said with pride.

On a dark continent far away from any civilisation, a white armored figure with pulsing blue highlights sits in a dark cave. "What happened… where am I?" thought the figure, right before having a flash of pain lance through their head. Memories flashed across the beings' vision. Memories of a huntress in a white cloak, facing off against a pail cracked skinned witch. Memories of an alien super weapon, enslaved by instinctive need to spread the influence of a blue substance called phazon.

These were the memories of two very different beings, but they are one now. The influence of the phazon was gone. Dark Rose, as the alien super weapon was called, was free. Summer Rose, the mother to Ruby Rose, was alive again after having been killed by Salem.

Eventually, the mind of the armored being settled. Then it spoke. "I… I am Summer Rose, but also Dark Rose… I have the memories and body of Dark Rose at least." It was confusing, but as time passed, things began to solidify.

This was Summer Rose, somehow reborn with the body and memories of Dark Rose. She could remember everything, the many people that Dark Rose had killed, the worlds it had corrupted, but most of all, she remembered that it was her own daughter, Ruby Rose that had stopped the evil that was planet Phaaze. Summer was proud that Ruby was such an excellent warrior, but why was she in space? How was she in space?

Summer shook her head, she would think about that later. She lifted her right hand to hold her head, only to find that she had a strange arm cannon on it. She could still feel her hand, but it was also inside the powerful weapon. She then used her other hand to touch her head, feeling the helmet she had on. Feelling around, she found how to take it off and did so. She looked at the helmet, it had a similar design to the rest of the armor, was white, having followed that part of Summer's own color scheme, instead of the black that was Dark Rose. The one thing that was curious was the fact that the visor was silver, not blue.

"Looks like my silver eyes had an effect on this thing." She then found a crystal to look at herself with. Summer looked very much like she had when she died, with only one change. Her hair was not dark crimson any more, it was now dark blue.

"Well, I am alive and I have the body and powers of an alien super weapon. What could go wrong?" She said sarcastically. Knowing her luck in regards to getting into trouble, she wondered if actually had Qrow the Misfortune semblance or if it was her.

A/N Haaaaaa, that took way too long. Sorry, everyone.

Well, here it is. The upgrades for teams RWBY and JNPR! The next chapter will be a detailed list of each person's abilities and equipment. I hope you like the idea.

Summer Rose is BACK and ready to kick a**. Personally I really like this idea and I hope everyone else does too. This came from someone's comment about bringing Summer back as an X host. As much as that would be cool, I thought this is better.

Now fore some Reviews:

Mark The Gamer of Grima

hey, great job! love the chapter!

i see you've added my other "Suggestion" in the PM i sent you, "what a pleasant surprise", as a certain redhead i know would say...

how about one of Ruby's upgrades from here would give her one of the Aeion abilities she lost after Metroid Samus Returns (im specifically talking about the lightning shield, or the one that makes her fire at a very fast rate

got nothing else at the moment, heres to another good chapter!

I am glad. And I like the idea of giving her the Aeion abilities.

HaloEmblem

And once again you delivered a great chapter, Ruby showing (most) of her power, explaining where she has been for the past ten years, and battling Kraid(Grimmified). I think the way you brought(and will bring) the space pirate bosses into the fold is very interesting and creative.

Also had an idea about how Anthony would appear if you decide to add him in. So basically the federation should think all space pirates are dead(after all the events throughout the Metroid games basically confirm it) so they send a small squad of Troopers to confirm it, with Anthony leading the squad, as for how they will confirm it I'm still working that out…

Should've fully read what I typed before I sent it… (imagine in between where is say 'So basically the federation should think all space pirates are dead(after all the events throughout the Metroid games basically confirm it)' and 'so they send a small squad of Troopers to confirm it, with Anthony leading the squad' there is this small area that say that the federation hears rumors of a space pirate frigate around the Star system of ZDR

… Holy cow… I LOVE IT. Great idea. I am glad that you are enjoying my story. I may change the idea a bit, but I am definitely considering it. I hope your own story is going well. I saw the new chapter, but have not read it yet.

ultima-owner

grimmified Metroid enemies? Nightmare fuel in the making. the question is, What enemy is the most horrifying after being Grimmified?

Hehehehe, we shall see. We shall see.

Nanairo the Keyblade Samurai

Well, from what I read so far, I'm enjoying this. And considering the fight with Grimm Kraid, I don't blame Ruby for coming clean. Especially if more Grimm space pirates show up. Though on the bright side, Blake's past is known and Weiss accepts it. That'll help them get closer as a team. Speaking of which, I wonder if Ruby will be bringing her team to those Chozo temples? All in all, doing great so far. Looking forward to how you spin the circumstances of Summer, and how much of a joke Ruby's gonna make out of Ironwood's paladins.(Something I'm sure Qrow will be proud of.) Until then.

Yep, the team is growing closer early on. It also helped set the stage for this chapter. To be honest though for the Paladins, Ruby will probably be reminded of the Mech suits from Federation Force… before making a joke out of it with her team.

EvanderAdvent

Big post incoming. After seeing all the response to possible Ridley encounters I think an important detail is this would be the first rematch since Super Metroid. After we thought him dead for good in Norfair the GF made a clone in Other M and after we kicked it's ass it ran off and got drained by Metroids. This Dried Ridley was than taken to BSL where we find it in cold storage in Fusion before the X got it.

Yep this is a big post. You make a good point about the 'Ridleys' after Super Metroid, aren't actually Ridley.

While a tease of a returned Dark Ruby is interesting the big question is how? After we blew up Phaaze literally all Phazon in existence faded away. I can kind see Dark Ruby throwing it's consciousness and a piece of itself far enough away to do something but you got some work to do. Plus there shouldn't be any other Phazon for it to feed from so it's gonna be weak as hell at first.

I changed the name to Dark Rose, as I thought it worked better. I agree on the fact that all phazon is gone, but how the small amount of phazon that revived Summer as Dark Rose will be explained later along with the power development.

Now I picture Nora asking Ruby about the time she fought her evil doppelgänger and Ruby responds "Which one?" Maybe Adam has BSL cam footage saved to recreate that first scene where you take the elevator and barely miss it blasting through the wall.

Not quite the same, but close enough don't you say?

I don't remember if you mentioned the X but they should not show up. Their potential threat and death toll to Remnant is too high.

Ruby: YEP! NO X THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I think a cool idea is if the Chozo actually left trials for Ruby's teammates and they have to fight against memories of bosses she face to receive a reward. Maybe some tech upgrades or go more spiritual and impart power into their Aura or Semblance.

… I need a tin foil hat…

A few people have likely mentioned Atlas finding Chozo tech but I have a fun idea for that. What if the reason Penny can have Aura as a robot is if her core/brain is actually a biocomputer like Mother Brain or the Aurora Units? Would Ruby feel conflicted at her origins or not care due to her experiences?

Good idea. That might actually work.

I think that if Ruby ever tries to use her Metroid powers to drain a Grimm it should be very bad for her. Their very nature is anthetical to life so try to absorb basically Anti-Life would be painful and dangerous. Plus what if her Silver Eye power rejects it violently inside her body? I think it'd be good way to limit her options against bigger Grimm.

You make good points, but this will be explained later. I really appreciate the feedback

ranjira1988

hmm I wonder if Pietro could make a Android body for Adam?

I actually did not think of that. Great idea!

I hope everyone likes the chapter.

Remember, feel free to ask questions and make suggestions.

Until next time.
